Be aware this place is very shady! They try to charge you extra for every little chance they get. 1. You have to pay for water $8 per bottle, no option for tap water 2. We didn't order bread but they put in front of you and charged for it without telling you 3. They charge 4% of credit card, slightly more than the general 3% 4. We put 20% tips before tax. They changed us 20% after tax, only $3 difference but it's not the amount we wrote on the receipt The food is mediocre, the waiters were insincere friendly. Casasalvo is a high-effort restaurant in a very competitive neighborhood. It just wasn't always apparent that the "effort" was being put toward the right things. Service was choppy, at times nearly theatrical, but ultimately all over the place. Food was very good (elevated, authentic), but the $40 portions of pasta are small. Atmosphere is inconsistent with very bright led lights in the wine cabinets clashing with rustic details. I think it's worth a try before they are inevitably forced to dumb down the menu. read more

Walked past this spot and had to stop! It was so cute - I felt transported to southern Italy. The host was extremely welcoming. The Campari spritz hit the spot. The outside seating was perfect to watch the bustle and energy of that great neighborhood. We were going to a dinner party so didn't eat. But we will be back to do so soon. read more

We ended up walking into Casa Salvo this weekend and were pleasantly surprised to see the owner on-site--always a good sign. The space is open, breezy, and perfect for summer dining. It has a relaxed vibe that makes it easy to settle in. Service was just okay--friendly, but clearly understaffed, which slowed things down a bit. Also, like others mentioned, they don't serve tap water, which felt a bit unnecessary. Now, the food: The special fritters were just average (6.5/10) The gnocchi was excellent (9/10) And the Cacio e Pepe prepared in the cheese wheel (8/10) was worth every penny--rich, creamy, and super satisfying. Overall, the food holds up against any top-rated spot in the area, and the lack of a wait makes it a great spontaneous option. Would come back, especially for that gnocchi. read more

My family and I LOVED our meal here. To preface our review, I would like to add this sentiment: after looking at some of the 1 star reviews, we cannot stress enough how much we disagree with them! Our waiter was kind, attentive, and opened the restaurant early for us to have a quick lunch. We were allowed to order tap water (despite what some 1 star reviews say...) without any problem or hesitation. I ordered the prosciutto with melon and orange foam. It was incredible! The foam was light and airy with the perfect amount of orange infusion. My mom got the burrata with a glass of one of their merlots. The merlot was light and earthy, the waiter did an excellent job selecting it for her. My grandmother ordered an espresso and said it was one of the best. After hearing her compliments, our waiter gave us a FREE mokavit coffee maker. We literally could not believe it when he said it was for her. Despite our objections, he insisted that she have it so she could taste the best Italian coffee at home. Finally, the decor was so beautiful and every tiny detail sparkled. For example, even the napkin rings had a monogrammed brass pendant on it with the restaurant's name. My family personally loved the old school Italian music as well. Although other reviewers called the music selection "tacky," my family and I thought it was endearing and lovely. Because we are not local to NYC, it might be a while until we are back. However, I urge you to try this restaurant. It was incredible and we cannot wait until our next trip so we can come back!!! read more

I tried the carpaccio, lamb, and cacio a pepe and all 3 were delicious-the truffle wagyu carpaccio being my favorite. The menu had quite a lot to choose from and the atmosphere was great, upscale but not uptight, this is a beautiful restaurant especially with the windows open on a nice night. The service was good and sommelier knowledgeable and helpful. I didn't get the chance to eat or drink at this establishment, but I still feel my experience is worth sharing for future customers. After finishing lunch nearby around 3:30 p.m., we were looking for a place to have coffee and dessert. We noticed this restaurant because of the signs displaying coffee and pastries. Before entering, we asked the server working outside whether we could come in just for coffee and dessert. He said yes and directed us through the entrance near the bar counter, telling us to sit at the bar. However, once we sat down, the bartender neither offered us a menu nor welcomed us. Instead, he immediately told us they didn't have coffee. This was confusing, considering we had specifically asked beforehand. It was clear to me that the bartender simply did not want to serve us. He then added, "We serve fine dining." I honestly found the comment rude and dismissive. Rather than argue, I told my husband we should leave. Furthermore, I couldn't help but wonder whether we were treated this way because we are a retired Asian and Latin American couple who were not dressed in designer or high-fashion clothing. Having lived in NYC for over 40 years, I have never experienced this kind of treatment before, and I sincerely hope this was just an isolated incident. read more

First time last time, food too so long to come to our table , we just wanted to leave and when it came the meal was incredibly disappointing. The rubbery tasteless calamari was joined with veal meatballs that were so ordinary. We ordered the chicken parmigiana..how can you mess this up? If I could give this establishment 6 stars, I would. Yesterday was a BEAUTIFUL nyc day, sun shining and happy people eating outside. My friend and I had the dining room to ourselves. I was a little early and decided to have a cocktail while waiting for my friend to arrive. Betty and Giacomo were super friendly and kind and we bonded (pun intended) over the making of a proper Vesper cocktail. We enjoyed our drink then moved to a table. The amuse bouche was lovely. We ordered the Tonno crudo, the Paccheri Pistachio, the staple Pollo ala Parmigiana, Pollo Casasalvo alla Siciliana and the Cannolo for dessert. Salvo, the owner came to check on us himself and was such a lovely person. When I say the preparation of the food here was as close to divinity as I have ever tasted, it is no exaggeration. I cannot say enough about this amazing restaurant. We are truly lucky to have this in the neighborhood. The chef here worked at the Vatican in Rome and at Michelin restaurants. The service was amazing. Steven was the waiter. Everything absolutely everything was perfection. The food combinations are exquisite. I had the egg in a lemon cream sauce with truffles...divine. Agnolitto pasta in a butter and sage sauce....heavenly. The meatballs were delicious and being Sicilian I can honestly say they are definitely the same you would get in Italy. They have many different choices for drinks I had an amazing red wine. For dessert I had the cannolis.... The filling was homemade ricotta and you can definitely taste the difference between these cannolis and cannolis at other restaurants..... I also had coffee.... And the coffee even was amazing. The hostess at this restaurant was fantastic she seated me outside right away! However, this is the only restaurant I've been to in all of New York City that doesn't serve tap water. I had to wait about 10 minutes before a waiter came to my table. I think he might have been a manager since he was wearing a suit. I ordered tuna tartare and an Aperol Spritz. Unfortunately, the olives completely overpowered the tuna, making it impossible to taste the fish, and there was no mention of olives on the menu. On the bright side, the Aperol Spritz was excellent. Cheesy and tacky decor and background music. $28 small portion of cacio Pepe plated like a five year old cooked it, and tastes like jarred Alfredo sauce. Apps were average, bread served cold and a little stale. Husband's pork chop was pink and not in a good way. Pork is supposed to be cooked medium, I get it, but not slimy flavorless and cold. Lack of menu options and unimaginative dishes from 1993. Service was slow and rude. This place probably won't last more than a year. After his cigarette he came and kissed my hand, should have been my feet because the food had not arrived after 40 minutes after placing my order. This was with a reservation! Playing Loud Italian music could not cover up for the tasteless over priced Horrible Slop that they're Over charging for. I couldn't and would Not pay for this. I happily paid for our wine. I refused the "free dessert" I'm not searching for free food. I wanted good food, which is beyond their grasp!!
