If you want to go to an Old School Italian restaurant in the city Paul and Jimmy's may fit the bill. It is small and cozy almost like you are at someone's house. The portions are large so you will not leave hungry. My ravioli over a beef sauce was certainly hearty. Service was good ok but the waiter seemed to want an alcoholic drink order. Back here again! It is Sunday, Feb 23, and I am very stuffed and happy.! Started with two old fashions. Shared three appetizers : Frutta de Mare and baked clams which were absolutely delish and the best I've had and roast peppers with mozzarella. The primi was clams linguini , and secondi was the risotto with Scampi. The clams and linguini were really good, but the the risotto dish was absolutely delicious. I was full but continued to eat. Dessert is the affogato. Omg, so good. Everything was delicious, right down to the warm bread and old fashions. I highly recommend this place. Cozy and warm, with a small bar. I came here with my family for our annual Holiday City trip. I was very happy they were able to accommodate 17 of us and out of 17 were 7 kids, cheers to our waiter! He was excellent! Staff was very friendly. The lights went off when we got there, we thought it was the ambience- which we were fine with too! But once the lights went on while we ordered -- we were happy to see the festive decor! The cocktails were delicious-- I sipped and enjoyed my Aperol spritzes. The calamari was delicious, my kids devoured them. They also enjoyed the rigatoni vodka! I started with the breaded clams, hands down one of my favorites. The eggplant parm was so soft and the mozzarella pull on top was quite amazing. My husband got the chicken francese, it was so tender and flavorful. For dessert, I got the spumoni which was rich and very creamy. I wish I ordered another but my husband got the riccota cheesecake and wow, it was perfect. We had dinner here last night, I'm still thinking about the amazing olive oil!! The entire dinner was delicious, the wine was perfect, but the olive oil is spectacular! It's light, with delicious floral notes. It is perfect for dipping the warm bread. Honestly, I have never tasted an olive oil as delicious as this! I had the salmon which is served with fresh vegetables all cooked perfectly! My friends had pasta dishes that were also perfect! And the staff is friendly and professional. This place has been here since 1950 and I felt like a hot mob wife in the golden age of nyc eating here. Staff is so so lovely and wonderful. Everything we ate was very delicious. We were walking by this place, casually checking out the vibe, on our way to Dear Irving. The owner/ manager warmly invited us in and insisted we stay for a drink. We wanted to sit by the entrance, a section that wasn't yet open for guests but he more than obliged. We grabbed a couple of drinks n a tiramisu for dessert...spent an hour or so there and not once were made to feel rushed or unwelcomed. They constantly checked on us. This place is an example of what good customer service should look like, which a lot of restaurants in NYC are unable to get. The service was a bit slow, it took a while for us to get the menus and by the time we had ordered and received the food one of the servers noticed the we never got any bread. They have a prefix menu which seems like a good deal but I was not that hungry so we just ordered from the regular menu. I ordered the linguine alle vongole and my friend ordered the cannelloni alla Florentina. I thought the linguine was fine but nothing special, the cannelloni was delicious! read more

My average on the food was 3.75 / 5 only because I've had so much better of each at different places and nothing in particular stood out. I got the lasagna and was satisfied with the portion and ingredients but it felt like de javu of eating this elsewhere. I felt the same way - and I'm not saying they're not great Italian, because they are. It's just that in a city with so many Italian options I'd want to come back for something I can't live without. Like many things since March 2020, the varying suitability of NYC streets for outdoor dining can be unfair and arbitrary. I saw an Upper West Side setup where people had to contend with crossing bike lanes, and on 14th Street there's a high chance you'll be approached by someone. But 18th is becoming a date-night favorite, energetic but no trucks, and Paul & Jimmy's has a good outdoor setup. We mixed it up and got only appetizers, knowing nothing other than "hot" and "cold." I recommend using the bread to make sandwiches with the meat, cheese, pepper and tomato on the cold side. The hot one wasn't as large but the meatballs are other items were enticing. The menu is carefully constructed - not overly long but offering a good range of familiar items and deep cuts, enabling my first-ever encounter with zabaione, a custard with egg yolks and wine. read more

While wandering the city, my wife and I selected this establishment during the Covid pandemic. We were glad we made this decision! I ordered some thing that wasn't on the menu - Pollo alla Campagna. How is this not on the menu? The dish was terrific! The chicken and sausage were well cooked and came in a sauce that worked very well for the dish. There was a good but smaller size set of vegetables. A gentleman came by to refill the water throughout the meal and the waiter was very courteous and checked in with us throughout the outing. Worst service I've ever had. I had a table of 6. We were sat. Waiting on 2 of my friends. We asked to order appetizers while we waited. The server, Ricardo, said no. He said he had to take the full order all at the same time. 1 of friends had to leave soon to go to work so I again asked if we could at least order appetizers. Ricardo said ok he would be right there. He continued to ignore us until the rest of our party showed up. The food took a long time to come out. People who were sat after us were getting their food before us. An hour goes by and we ask about our food. Ricardo again dismisses us and says it's coming. 30 minutes later the food come out. My friend was served the veal when he had ordered the gnocchi. We tell Ricardo the meal is wrong and he says no no no. You ordered the veal and walks away. My friend had no choice but to eat the veal as we were now pressed for time because we had theater tickets. We thought surely 2 hours would be good for dinner. It was not as the service was extremely slow. As we were paying the bill we again told Ricardo the meal was wrong. He shows us that he wrote veal on his order pad and again walks away. Completely dismissing us. The tip was included sadly for horrible service. No wonder Ricardo didn't care. read more

The staff is NYC authentic: No BS, but warm & friendly. The menu is a great mixture of NY Italian & foods I've actually eaten in Rome. They have a mostly-enclosed sidewalk dining area with decent heaters - but do bundle up if it's cold out; the ventilation is significant. This is a very good thing during covid times though, so it's much appreciated. I recommend the eggplant Parmesan. You can replace anything but the lasagna, ravioli and gnocchi w/gluten free pasta. With a name like Paul & Jimmy's, this place gave me the impression that it was a casual bar where I could get a quick drink and the prerequisite appetizer. Though I got heavy midtown tourist trap vibes, given the apps were upwards of $20 each and the average glass of wine would set me back about $15, the ambience, service, and delicious zucchini fries melted my sticker shock away. Their happy hour deal runs from 3:00-6:00pm and includes $6 select wines, $5 Peronis, $7 Aperol Spritz and $7 Moscow Mules. I was here once for happy hour and can attest to their wine being quite good. The remainder of this review is for dinner. My boyfriend and I came here on a Saturday night and the dining room was filled. We were able to sit in the front of the restaurant near the bar without waiting though. We each had 3-4 Old Fashioneds (oops) and each one was better than the last (no big surprise there). For dinner, we shared a few of the small plate apps on their chalk board menu. We loved the meatballs (3) and fried cauliflower for $7 each. For entrees I had the Pollo alla Campagnola (chicken and sausage sauteed w/ peppers, onions, mushrooms and tomatoes) which was amazing. Instead of pasta, the entree comes with veggies and a delicious potato croquette, making it the perfect portion. My boyfriend had the Linguine alla Vongole (clams, white wine and garlic) and he loved that as well. Overall Paul & Jimmy's is a great spot for both happy hour and dinner. You can come here for almost any occasion without breaking the bank. And I would highly recommend their Old Fashioned, happy hour white wine + the chicken and sausage entree. read more
