Breakfast at Cascades.. Resort at Squaw Creek, Lake Tahoe 6/6/2021
    Grey R.

Cascades Sunday 6/6/2021 Breakfast Tremendously enjoyed amazing breakfast spread at Cascades on a Sunday morning following my arrival to Resort at Squaw Creek in Tahoe. Reminded me of Sheraton's breakfast & brunch buffet in Rome, Italy. Cibo molto gustoso! It's all about freshness, ambience, presentation. Molto saporito! Cheeses & fruits to begin with.. strawberries, pineapple, honey dew.. smoked salmon slice with a dab of chive-onion cream cheese, fresh cucumber slice, capers.. without the bagel, no carbs! Laughing, let's see if I have enough willpower:) Whet that appetite! Omelette station! Freshly cooked savory omelets & eggs over easy.. or scramble, in front of your very eyes.. mmmm, delectable! May I please add a piece of bacon to that! Pancakes & waffles at the chef's station, cover them in blueberries, add strawberries, these are my yummy toppings, skip the syrups & caramels! Freshly squeezed grapefruit & a cup of French press Java please, no cream! Morning started.. A cocktail, anyone?! Here are your buffet choices at Cascades: Fresh Start Fresh sliced seasonal fruits, whole fruit baskets Selection of assorted cereals, house-made granola Seasonal yogurt parfaits, oatmeal, Chef's daily smoothie Charcuterie & cheese platter Smoked salmon with accompaniments, bagels Chef's Station Chef's daily special omelets & eggs any style, made to order Breakfast potatoes Bacon & local pork sausage Pancakes, waffles, assorted toppings Chocolate, maple syrup, caramel topping Baker's Oven Selection of freshly baked Danish pastries Breakfast bread Fresh baked muffins Daily baker's pastry choice Assorted croissants Cream cheeses Orange marmalade, strawberry jam Selection of juices, freshly made coffee, and gourmet hot tea selections, cocktails, french press, or specialty coffees The honey bee that fetch the nectar from the flowers to the comb Never tired of ever buzzing to and fro Because they take a little nip from every flower that they sip And hence (And hence) They find (They find) Their task is not a grind Ah, ah, ah!

Warm sticky buns. The best I've ever had!

Best breakfast buffet I've had! They had so many options, and all of the food was great! I made sure I tried some of everything. Sticky buns: Show stopper, a MUST HAVE. I had like 3 of these my first day there, and had no regrets! They're warm and have just the right amount of cinnamon. I can't even find the right words to describe this heavenly dish. French toast: Perfectly cooked, another must try. Waffles: Were a little cold and not crispy at all. I didn't even finish the quarter piece I took. Scrambled eggs: Great! Bacon: Crispy, soft, you can have your pick! Smoked salmon: It was really good the first day, but didn't seem fresh the second time in. Omelette bar: I don't think its possible to go wrong with a build your own omelette place that has about 15 topping options! Pasties: The cheese danish was good, buy my favorite was one that had a sweet filling and powdered sugar on the top. Probably had a hint of cinnamon too. I couldn't stop having them. Frittata: the usual. Oatmeal: Tried to be healthy, so I had some of this, definitely made the right decision. Strawberries: Some were fresh some weren't, but I guess that always happens.

Located on the bottom floor of the main resort building, the view is fantastic! We came here because we had a breakfast voucher for the breakfast buffet. The buffet is from 7AM - 11AM so you have plenty of time to fill up before heading to the slopes or whatever big activity you have planned for the day. We went around 11AM on a Sun and luckily there wasn't any wait. Since it wasn't too busy, we were able to request to sit next to the windows (which I highly recommend). Buffet Pricing: $24 Adults / $12 Children *~Fresh Start Station~* Sliced Seasonal Fruit Fruit Baskets filled w/ Apples, Oranges, Bananas Assorted Cereal Hot 9 Grain Cereal House-made Granola Assorted Greek Yogurt *~Chef's Station~* French Toast Omelets & Eggs (Any Style, Made-to-Order) Pancakes (Assorted Candy Toppings, Whipped Cream, and Sweet Breakfast Syrup to top) Waffles Breakfast Potatoes w/ Tri-colored Bell Peppers & Onions Bacon Local Pork Sausage Traditional Eggs Benedict *~Baker's Oven Station~* Fresh Baked Danish Pastries, Muffins, Banana Bread Daily Baker's Pastry Choice White & Wheat Sliced Bread Regular & Chocolate Covered Croissants Wild Flower Honey Comb Regular & Strawberry Cream Cheese Orange Marmalade & Strawberry jam *~Continental~* ($18) An assortment of Fresh Fruit, Greek Yogurt, Hot Nine Grain Cereal, and Pastries made fresh in house *~A La Carte Breakfast~* $24 Adults / $12 Children *Includes Continental Items +2 Eggs (Any Style) w/ Bacon or Sausage, Breakfast Potatoes & Toast +Make Your Own Omelet: ham, Onions, Mushrooms, Peppers, Tomatoes, Spinach, Choice of Cheese +Traditional Eggs Benedict +Buttermilk Pancakes +Belgian Waffles w/ Fresh Strawberries +Cinnamon Dusted French Toast w/ Fresh Strawberries & Sliced Bananas Drinks: Selection of Juices, Fresh Brewed Coffee & Gourmet Hot Tea Selections Mimosa Bar: $12 Bloody Mary Bar: $10 Note: 18% Gratuity for parties of 6+ They have a Make-Your-Own-Bloody-Mary Bar and a Mimosa Bar if you'd like one with your breakfast but it's not included with the buffet. I love how you can customize your omelets (yes, they have egg whites only as well). They didn't skimp out on them and were very thick and fluffy. The waffle was crispy and very airy. The bacon & pork sausages were crispy but not burnt. I also loved the fresh honeycomb as I put that w/ my hot water and on a bit of toast. They had an interesting assortment of toppings (Crumbled Oreos, Candy, Jams, Chocolate Syrup, etc) for your pancakes which were way too sweet for me. Lots of pastries were available if that's what you like for breakfast. A bunch of artisan breads with cold cuts were also laid out along side the fresh fruit. A good assortment of choice that were constantly re-stocked. Dishes frequently cleared and drinks re-filled. Definitely a great way to start the day.

This place gets a thumbs up!

Beautiful views, super friendly staff and relaxing. The home made Pico de Gallo was tasty and went great with the made to order omelettes. Eggs benedict were a little dry but they had lots of other options. They had a very good selection of pastries as well as fruit my son definitely approved.

The Bloody Mary Bar is creative snd delicious!

We came across three female lobsters with eggs, and although some people consider it lucky, it honestly didn't sit well with me. From what I understand, egg-bearing lobsters are typically supposed to be released, so it made me worry about long-term sustainability and potential shortages. Other than that, the experience itself was enjoyable. We requested a table with a view and got to watch the sunset while eating, which made the dinner feel extra nice. The prime rib was definitely my favorite. The crab was juicy and fresh, sushi was just okay, but the poke was surprisingly flavorful. I skipped dessert, but my boyfriend said that ended up being his favorite part of the night. I'd still come back again, but I really hope they become more mindful about the lobster situation.

We actually had a few family members back out because we were under the impression it was mostly seafood, but it turned out to be a full standard buffet with plenty of variety: pastas, salads, pizza, soups, prime rib, and more. Definitely something for everyone. Pricing was $60 for adults and $25 for kids 12 and under, which honestly felt fair because there's no way two tween girls were about to put away $60 worth of food each. I don't recall hearing about a senior discount, and if they do offer one, I wish it had been mentioned since we had two grandmas in their 80s with us, plus adults in their 50s and 60s. Me, freshly turned 29 however? I'll bravely shoulder the $60 burden. No problem at all. One thing that did work out nicely: parties of 8 or more automatically get an 18% gratuity added. Since you pay upfront when you walk in, it completely eliminated the usual family debate over who's contributing or covering the tip, which was perfect since I was treating. The restaurant itself is tucked pretty deep inside the casino, which is mildly inconvenient. It honestly reminded me of the old Fry's Electronics checkout maze where they'd route you past endless gadgets, gizmos, and candy before letting you escape. Except here, it's slot machines and gaming tables. After getting off the elevator, you walk a ways and then catch another escalator or elevator down another level or two. Maybe it only felt far because we were new to the layout, but give yourself a few extra minutes if you've never been. We were told reservations were required, though technically they aren't. There was a standby line for walk-ins, but it was easily 50 people deep while reservation holders were being seated quickly and given clear priority, as they should be. So while not mandatory, reservations are very strongly recommended. As for the food itself, the crab and lobster were salty but overall pretty good. There was one lobster that tasted a little "off" or muddy, but with buffet-style dining, it was easy enough to grab another. Fair warning though: lobster and crab are messy and take work. This is not a low-maintenance dining experience for the weak, lazy, or easily frustrated (LOL). The prime rib was solid, though not especially memorable. The mac and cheese was unfortunately bland, and the desserts were probably the weakest part of the buffet. The bread pudding was the standout dessert, and my sister swore the soft serve was surprisingly good. Overall, everyone genuinely seemed to enjoy themselves, and it felt like a worthwhile outing with family. We left full, happy, and glad we went. While I'm not completely sure it'll become a regular destination for us, I'd still say it was a fun experience and definitely worth trying at least once.

The buffet spread is pretty small compared to other buffets, and aside from the desserts, nothing really stood out. I tried to make the most of the all-you-can-eat crab, but the legs were watery and tough to get meat out of. The "sushi" options were limited (only two) and tasted stale, same with the shrimp & mussels. Basically any seafood or main meat dish had that "sitting out too long" flavor, and even the salad toppings tasted stale, which is never a great sign. The dessert station was the highlight.. much more variety, fresher, and genuinely tasty. That said, it was oddly set up with many items behind glass, requiring staff assistance, while everything else is self-serve. The ice cream station could also use more topping options. On a positive note, the service was great - friendly & attentive. Overall, while the discount and service are nice, I couldn't find a main course that would bring me back. Probably a one-and-done for me.
