I had heard great things about this place. Having recently relocated back to Lewiston, I thought I would try to find a new favorite eatery, since a couple of old standby's had let me down recently. Sure, the burgers are a bit pricey (not exorbitant), but if they're gourmet burgers, they should be worth it, right? Nope. I specifically ordered the brisket burger (big ox, I think it's called), based on a relative's rave review. The brisket added a bit of saltiness to the burger. There was no distinct texture difference between one meat and the other - after 2 disappointed bites, I separated the meats, and tried to decide if there was any textural or taste difference, and literally the only difference was level of salt. Ground beef and brisket should have different flavors and textures. They separated differently when I bit into them, but they chewed exactly the same. The appleslaw was tasteless, the "crispy" onions were mushy, and the "tangy" bbq sauce would have been better and tastier if it were a store-bought brand. ANY store-bought brand, so long as it didn't come in a 5-gallon barrel. Also, putting average-size burgers on medium-sized buns, isn't fooling anyone. A medium size burger doesn't seem huge just because the bread is too small. I hate to come down hard on local restaurants; I want them to survive. But if you're charging gourmet prices, then you MUST go the extra mile and make a memorable meal. The economy is tight for you - I get that. It's also tight for me. So if I pay more than I normally would, expecting a meal that at least outshines chain-restaurants, then please deliver. I spent $12 on quality ground beef, and maybe $8 more on decent rolls and accoutrements. Many of which I have leftovers of. For $20, I made 4 burgers that were bigger, and far better, than what I reveived from C&C for over $20. If I can make 4 great burgers that everyone *loved* for $20, you should give me something praiseworthy, for more than $20. That being said - service was great, the staff is really nice. And I'm sure it's not easy to run a kitchen efficiently and to gourmet-levels during a pandemic. It wasn't bad. It was just so plain, for being so expensive! If you want to support local business, and you can afford to do so - by all means, give them a go, I wish them well. But if I'm going to just rate what I experienced, especially considering what I paid, it has to be low. Sorry. read more

Hands down best burger I've ever had. I ordered the Hair of the Cow and my husband ordered the Holy Nandi. We cut them and shared. At one point I thought I was going to cry I was so happy. No shortage of toppings. Juicy flavorful meat. Perfect roll that holds up to the toppings without shooting your burger out one side. Perfection. No need to splurge for the fries because the house made chips are fresh, warm and salty. Future regulars!!!! read more

It was very frustrating today when my wife and I took a trip from Akron to Lewiston to have lunch at the Cask & Cow. Right when we sat down we ordered a draft beer and a margarita. When the waitress returned to take our order no drinks. Because they were only using the one of the two menus she gave us we needed a few minutes and my wife ordered a water. She came back and I asked where our drinks were. She said I'm sorry but he is slow today. Now it's been 15 minutes at least. We waited another 20 minutes and still no drinks and no waitress. We even watched her deliver a second round of drinks to another table. Finally we got up and told another waitress we have been waiting over a half hour and still didn't even get our drinks so we are leaving. read more

We had dinner here Saturday with a group of six. Our first time in. What a wonderful experience. I also like to use the the BFS system. Beverages- Beer! What a list. For my money this is probably among the best list in Lewiston. Carefully curated and a great mix of beer styles. Other in our group were equally well pleased with mixed drinks and wine. Food - was what we were expecting and more. We started with two helpings of Perogis. They we were fresh well cooked and not over seasoned. We also had the corn fritters. They were a bit more spicey than we thought they would be but great. They came with a nice ranch sauce for dipping to. For the main course we all got different types of burgers. All were cooked to requested temperature. The buns were soft and easy. This allowed the meat to shine and be easily tasted. Service- top notch. Our server was nice, knowledgeable, and hard working. There were a few delays but the restaurant had been open for only two days. Certainly to be expected and nothing that took away from the meal Our entire group stayed for two drink after dinner. The open space and plenty of seating in the bar area allowed old friends to catch up. The cask and cow will have a very, very long future in Lewiston! Well done read more

We ordered takeout from Cask & Cow on a Sunday night via Door Dash, as it's the only way to order online. I tried calling the restaurant directly to place the order, but got a busy signal for over a half hour. I assumed there was something wrong the the phone system. Because I had some special requests (regular Mayo in lieu of chipotle), I really wanted to place the order by phone. Oh well... We ordered a burger, Turkey Club & Barbacoa tacos. And a side of corn fritters. My husband enjoyed his burger and corn fritters (those were decent), but he's the only one who enjoyed their meal. The $13 "Turkey Club" was nothing more than DELI TURKEY on a ciabatta roll with chipotle Mayo (even though I specified regular Mayo), a measly tomato slice and wilted lettuce. To say it was inedible would be an understatement. I ordered the sandwich for my 90 year old mother who took one bite and threw the rest out. I ordered the Barbacoa tacos for myself. Even though they had been individually wrapped, they were a cold, slippery mess. There was barely any meat inside the double wrapped mini taco shell. Not sure why they used 2 shells. Maybe to make up the the lack of filling? In addition to the tasteless meat, there were dry pieces of corn & a lot of flavored sour cream. Definitely not worth the $15 price tag. Before we even finished eating, I called the restaurant to complain. The woman who answered the phone was very kind. She remembered that my husband had to wait an extra 45 minutes for the food to be ready, and knew exactly what we had ordered. She apologized and said she would let the owner/manager know about our experience. I gave her my name & phone number, but have heard nothing from management. No surprise there. Next time, we'll skip Cask & Cow and order from Bandana's in Youngstown where we know we'll get delicious food. read more

We were on vacation and just looking for a quick bite to eat but not fast food and stopped in. Our waitress, Emma, was the most attentive I've had in years and very pleasant. The appetizer that she selected for us was fried shrimp and fries which was very good. My son ordered a chicken sandwich as it was lunch and I had wings. Best burger ever! My daughter and I ate on the patio at cask and cow and both ordered burgers. (In late June 2020, they are serving food on the patio.) I resisted the urge to modify the condiments, or the cheese, or something to make it especially my own, and just ordered the burger as stated. We have been several times. Burgers are amazing and very large! Truffle fries and sweet potato fries are great too. Macaroni & Cheese is just ok - definitely get the fries instead. Stuffed Pepper Dip is amazing and highly recommended. Salads are an excellent size for a meal especially if you add one of the protein options. The cocktail list is small but still creative, although they don't have any cocktails on the sweeter side if that's your thing...however they do have a great selection of beers and ciders. I had a small shower here for my niece Sunday afternoon. The owner, Jack, was a gracious host from start to finish. Two of my nieces, my sister-in-law and myself had went to eat here in the summer when we were first planning the shower. Each of us ordered different selections from the menu so we could try a variety of the food. Everything was delicious and we were sold. Jack had informed us we could choose our own menu for the shower. We went with a Buffet that included a house salad, shells, Beer Mac and Cheese and a variety of sliders. We started our guests off with plates full of delicious nachos (I swear the best I've ever had, made with pulled pork) and sweet potato fries. We were given the game room in the back which made a beautiful venue for our gathering. There are four beautiful arched windows and dark rustic hardwood floors. This was my first time at this restaurant. We were seated by the hostess who didn't say anything to us and just grabbed menus. She threw the menus on the table and left. We then sat there for 20 minutes and the same hostess came back and said "did you seat yourselves? nobody told us you were here"????? then she started taking our order and stopped half way because someone at my table ordered something on the specials menu that SHE gave us that we apparently couldn't order from. she said she had to check with the kitchen and left. then she never came back and another server came to check in and then she also left. the original hostess came back and then left AGAIN without finishing our order, I had to stop her and tell her that she didn't finish taking our order. this entire time we don't even have waters or our drinks and we had been there about 40 minutes. we ended up leaving because never once did anyone apologize for the wait or let us know we would have to wait. if they were busy it didn't look like it because there were barely any tables. i have never had to leave a restaurant before, but everyone can agree we are never going back. read more

The service isn't the fastest when they're busy but honestly once you get the burger, you no longer care. I have now been to this restaurant twice. Once for dinner and then this past Sunday for brunch. The first time, dinner was very average. My boyfriends food was under cooked, he had chicken fingers-the breading was coming off as he was eating them. I just had an app, which was Mac n cheese bites, they were fine. But you really can't mess up Mac n cheese bites. Now for brunch, this brunch was hands down the worst brunch I ever had. Let's start with the waitress, she visited our table probably a total of 4 times during our entire brunch. There was four of us, we all ordered drinks and food. Our drinks came out, those were finished long before our meals came out, she advised us that the kitchen was slow but once we got our food, everyone's meal was ice cold. So I have a feeling the kitchen was not backed up at all. As she dropped the food off we ordered four mimosas. She came back to check on us probably 25 mins later, asking us if we need drinks. As we already ordered four Mimosas, that we have yet to Receive. Our reservation was for 1pm, it is now 3pm. We have received cold food and one round of drinks, in two hours. We finally get our mimosas, but we all just wanted to leave at this point, since it's been over two hours. We pay the bill, all four of us left half ate meals on the plates and I left my entire meal. She never asked once if we needed boxes or if we didn't like our meals. It is safe to say, I will never return to this establishment. If I could give this a half star rating, I would. read more

Our waitress/host/bartender/person running all over the place (and appears to have a wrist injury) serving the clientele was one of the best I have encountered anywhere. Her pleasantness, personality and attentiveness flowed naturally and she did a great job making us feel welcome. The other waitress rolled through the bar eating area and dining area like she was on skates. Phenomenal customer service experience. Food wise, it's a place where you can experiment a little outside of your normal cheeseburger. There's an Angry Elvis burger which has PB and jalapeños and about 10 other concoctions that looked appealing. Naturally in a burger place, I had a buffalo chicken sandwich....I know, I know, but it would be my 7th straight red meat meal so I tried something different. My spouse had the black bean burger and she said it was the best she's ever had. My chicken was fantastic. Juicy, thick, flavored perfectly with blue cheese and hot sauce.
