My husband and I, along with another couple found the Castaway Cafe on a short walk from our resort. We went for breakfast and it was wonderful! I had the Big Island omelet and my husband had the Paradise pancakes. We all loved our food. We returned for dinner the next evening. I ordered the vegetarian stir fry. Could have easily added chicken, but it didn't need it. It was very good! So much so, that I am looking for a copycat recipe. :) My Husband had the Castaway burger and he said it was great also! The setting is beautiful and we could watch the whales from our table! The wait staff was also great! Can't say enough about this place! read more

This place had the perfect outdoor setting on the most beautiful beach!! It was a perfect breakfast spot, the food was beautiful and delicious!! Pancakes were huge and shareable! Unfortunately I became very sick after eating their Kahlua Pork & Cabbage. The pork included many fatty pieces, that I noted to my wife. It was all bad. The view is great. The service was wildly under-staffed for Wednesday late lunch. It's our last night here in Maui and this was my favorite meal :) I wish we'd gone here more! I ordered the fish and chips, sometimes when I order fish and chips they are really greasy and make me slightly nauseous from the batter.. these were perfect! Not greasy at all! I'd compare the batter to a nicely seasoned pancake batter and the tartar sauce was lemony and delicious! I'm from Seattle and these were my favorite by far! Service was great, and it has indoor/outdoor seating. Ps. If you aren't staying in the hotels around it, it may be tricky to find, drive past the golf course into the parking area, park the closest to the walk way to the restaurant as possible as long as it isn't covered parking I believe you're ok. read more

My family and I love Castaways! It's one of our must do's as soon as we touch down on the island. It's a beautiful walk from any of the hotels along Kaanapali Beach. This place is very nice the service and ambiance was beautiful. The hamburgers are what you'd wish all burgers were made like. The only thing that I'd stay away from is the fish tacos. They were plated fine but the taste was very underwhelming. One last thing the place is hard to find, they need better signage. read more

Hidden gem on the Kaanapali Maui resort strip. Off the board walk tucked away on a green patch of grass just by the beach with scenic views of the ocean, this casual dinning experience serves remastered versions of Hawaiian local treats & drinks for all three meals. Its very kid friendly and has lawn games adjacent to the outdoor patio. Evenings feature local musicians and gas lit torches. A little bit on the pricey side, but par for the course for the resort area. We ended up eating here almost every day of our one week vacation; we're big fans of the owners, TS Restaurants, who also run some of our favorite San Diego eateries. Highly reccomend! read more

The food just wasn't that good. I got breakfast and did not enjoy it. The toast seemed stale too. It was confusing to find this place as well, both the location to park and how to find the restaurant (restaurant is for some reason nowhere near the sign on the building with the restaurant's name). I had to call and get put on hold for way too long just to ask where to go. You have to go to the hotel lobby first, and I had to wait in line behind people checking out of the hotel, just to get a parking pass to park to eat at the restaurant. Not very convenient at all. View from the restaurant is really good and that's the best feature here. read more

The best part of this place is incredible views of ocean and ka Aapli beach entrance right from the cafe. It is part of private property and the parking is validated inside the resort for two hours. that's ample of time to get your lunch or brunch on. We found curbside and parking lot parking and display ticket for two hours. We waited on open patio the first time we went. The brunch was very good. It was usual veggie omelette and egg Benedict. We also tried decaf and coffee. The service is quick and staff is very nice. The second time e couldn't try lunch menus as we mistook some options from dinner menu. Definitely in the list to try dinner menu. We also walked the beach for 30 minutes post brunch. It was nice to have the parking available for 2 hrs. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. As you can see in the photo, the view is stunning, set right on the beach. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and the entire restaurant is open, so the trade winds are flowing through. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The drink, Paradise Punch, was super yummy. I had the salad, which was fresh and crisp, and my husband had the cheeseburger and at the suggestion of the waitress, he added a slice of pineapple. As it turns out, the pineapple made the burger. He was so impressed and said it was the best burger he had while in Maui. I am adding Castaway Cafe to my places to vist the next time I am in Maui. read more

Came here after a nice day at the beach and this food was great! I actually stayed in the area that this restaurant was located at and I really wanted to come here and try it. The Loco Moco was good my only problem was that the burger patty was not the medium that I ordered but it still it was a good meal. Came back later at night and ordered a Piña Colada and that was actually really great too! The workers were nice as well and that helped create a nice and friendly environment. read more

I've run by this place a dozen times on trips - it's always looked great. I took my Daughter here for Brunch on a Maui Layover...Outstanding. She had the Banana Bread French Toast; I had the Short Rib Loco Moco. Fast, friendly service with a great ambiance. Castaway,'s was my dad's favorite place to eat whether it was for breakfast lunch or dinner. It has an amazing view of the ocean and all the staff knew him by name. Their dinner menu is also delish!! Visiting from out of state and decided to try this spot as their website says it's "kaanapalis best kept secret" waiter was nice but food was terrible. Ordered the loco moco- burger was over done and definitely not a fresh patty (frozen pre made) the rice tasted like uncle Ben's instant rice... pancakes were nothing special basic and for "paradise" only a few pieces of "fresh fruit" tart strawberries and semi sweet pineapples.
