The adventure to find this place was very memorable with Siri taking us to two different resort areas while we searched. To get to it go to the villas and go back the corner and take the beach walk route. Once we arrived they had small business vibes which we loved, and great views. We were one of the first groups arriving for dinner so not too crowded, and never over crowded. The food was good, nothing exceptionally over, but tasty. The cocktails were kind of ok as well, drank more of my water than the drink. The server Steve was nice but almost too high paced for a laid back not busy place. The bus host was fantastic! Our food and drinks were delivered by him, very quickly and he was very friendly. The view was fantastic. I would go back and try their breakfast, but for dinner with so many other places to try I probably would choose elsewhere read more

The Mai Tai and the outdoor tables facing the beach at sunset would be a 5++++++ stars out of 5. My husband and his friend had the burger and fries and loved them. My friend and I both had the fish and chips - BAD! I never get heart burn but something in it did it to me and my friend. Servers were nice enough but not very attentive. We went for lunch at castaway - we got kalua pork plate (rate it a 6/10, kind of greasy but it was fine nothing to cry home about), the fish tacos were really good like 8/10, and the poke same thing it was fine! During our week stay in Whaler's Village, we had three separate lunches at Castaway Cafe. It was about a ten to fifteen minute drive from our condo. The restaurant is located in a lovely cottage along a beach side hotel property. The lanai windows open up to palm trees and ocean breezes. Our servers were amongst the most friendly we experienced - a special shout out to Nicole! My husband and I are both lacto OVO pescatarians, therefore, our choices are sometimes limited when traveling. We were thrilled to find a menu that included many options for us. The calamari and vegetable spring rolls were our absolute favorites, so much so, that we ordered additionals to take back to the Airbnb for which we savored on our last night. We came here on our first night in Maui looking for a casual dinner, and this fit the bill perfectly! We're not staying on property but there were some parking spaces dedicated to Castaway Cafe. Once we parked, we weren't sure which way to go, so we took a side adventure the beach and found our way to the back of the restaurant. We were seated promptly in the best seat of the house! We were lucky enough to get an outdoor patio spot at the very end (quiet from the bustle of the restaurant) just in time to watch the sunset. It was quite bright so I was happy for my hat and sunglasses. We ordered drinks right away - a maintained for my husband and a virgin lava flow for me. Delicious! The service was so friendly and helpful. After much back & forth, we ended up ordering the short ribs and the macadamia crusted mahi mahi. Both were delicious but we agreed the short ribs were the winner. It had a delicious sauce and they were cooked to perfection - so tender & soft. And the potatoes really added to the dish. The mahi mahi itself was really yummy. It came with rice and sautéed veggies. The sauce was really yummy but maybe a little heavy on the capers. The food was amazing and the sweet and sour sauce was the best I've ever had. I was literally using it on everything. If they shipped, I'd order back home. The waiter was great. My big ding was the person who answered the phone. Parking can be confusing. It turns out the person answering the phone told us to park somewhere we were absolutely not supposed to park. Luckily the security for that area understood we were following instructions and said it was fine, this time. We had an average breakfast experience, which may have been due to the unavailability of the crabcake eggs Benedict I desired, as their griddle was malfunctioning and they were facing an egg shortage that morning. Only omelettes or scrambled egg dishes were available. The sole vegetarian omelette option was the Big Island Omelette, which comes with potatoes. The omelette was satisfactory, although the onion pieces were cut too large and undercooked. This place popped up when searching for a happy hour, but unfortunately, I missed the small window when I called. I decided to try this place out while walking around the resorts in Kaanapali. I happened to stumble upon this place when it opened, which allowed us to have premium seating outside with the gorgeous view of the water. Drinks: POG mimosa. Of course you can't go wrong with this! Main: I decided in pancakes with strawberries, pineapples,and macadamia nuts with a side huapia. This was filling! I had to balance out the sweet with the savory and I ordered some Portuguese sausage to go with the meal. Nicole, our waitress, was fabulous and very attentive. Not a great start. My one year old spilled the child water cup on the table and me. Two lady servers laughed and walked alway "another one today" " I can't believe it". They were very very stingy with the coconut syrup/toppings on the pancakes. Our mistake was that we got breakfast at the Gazebo earlier on our trip, so this food was more of a disappointment. Castaway Cafe is an old favorite and lovely location, with good service...we have been coming here for years. Unfortunately, the rising cost of food is impacting them seriously, and it's reflected in their offering. My wife and I had brunch at the cafe yesterday. Her omelet was tasty, and the cottage spuds were delish. The wonderful view and strong coffee got us ready for our day, but portions have definitely shrunk. Also noted was that they only served one slice of toast with breakfast, and only one little cube of jam. Seems like this has happened at many spots, but it was VERY apparent they were in rationing mode to a much higher degree than our last visit (May25). We were looking for a place to eat brunch in Lahaina and my cousin recommended Castaway Cafe as he had it the day before and really enjoyed it. Castaway Cafe is tucked away in Maui Ka'anapali Villas. When we arrived, we put our name and number down as there were no open tables. It took about 20 mins for the table to be ready for us. For the table, I ordered the banana bread. This was really good and I liked the tartness of the lilikoi butter. I also liked that the banana bread was not sweet. For myself, I ordered the braised short rib benedict. We went here for breakfast twice while we were on Maui. We were staying at the Maui Marriott and enjoyed the morning walk to Castaways. Even though I've been to Maui many times in the past, it was my first time trying Castaways. It's one of those places that you know is there, but you don't know how good it is. The reason we tried it was somebody else staying at the Maui Marriott chatted us up in the hot tub and raved about Castaway's food. We were not disappointed!
