Mahi tacos done perfectly- gentle grill marks, tender and moist, exactly right. Corn tortillas also gently grilled, hot with a little texture, they don't fall apart when you pick up these juicy tacos by hand. The salsa is simple amazing too. We recommend ordering the side salad too, one order of tacos (three) and the side salad was enough for the two of us. It's hard to find, literally no signage. You must park where hotel permits are not required, and walk past the hotel lobby to find the path to the beach, past the pools. read more

This was one of our favorite breakfasts on Maui. Love the ambiance. We got there early before 9 so there was no wait but it did start to fill up as we left. I had the avocado toast and the french toast, very good. Husband had the breakfast burrito which was big with a few diff meats in it! The breakfast potatoes were really good too, esp compared to the dry ones at the Westin and at Dukes. Plus the prices are good here, a few dollars less per dish than the resorts nearby, every bit helps :) read more

Castaway Cafe was a wonderful find. Located at the Maui Kaanapali Villas it was a little difficult to locate at first but once we got there, the hotel lobby was very welcoming and provided a parking pass. At the restaurant we had an excellent view of the ocean. The food was delicious as well. read more

We came on a weekday morning and waited a few minutes to be acknowledged and seated even though there were plenty of seats. Our servers were a character and very nice and helpful. We learned that we could get a single paradise pancake instead of a full order which ended up being the perfect amount. Only wished that they put the macadamia nut directly into the pancake batter instead of only on top. The haupia syrup with the pineapple paired nicely. The loco moco was also very tasty with eggs that were made to order. The view from our seats was also nice. Parking could be a little tricky but we found out that you can go into the hotel and ask for a pass to park for 2 hrs. read more

Cute little restaurant. It's located right by the ocean so you get a beautiful view of the sunset. We were seated right away and our server was very attentive to all of our needs. As for the food itself, it was decently good. My burger was very tasty and very well prepared, but it was missing something. The fish and chips's crispy battered crust helped hide the strong ocean taste, but it was still there. All in all, I'm glad we stopped by to try, and I'll make sure to make it to breakfast next time. read more

First time at Castaway Cafe. The service was friendly but not the most attentive--our waitress forgot a coffee we ordered and never came back to refill our water. Now let's get to the food. The loco moco was a hit, and the braised short rib Benedict was solid. The waitress mentioned the avocado toast was filling, but for $18, it was underwhelming--just one piece of toast with an overcooked egg. If you're looking for a decent breakfast, this is a good spot, especially if you get lucky with one of the few tables that have beach views. Great atmosphere, beautiful location for the early evening. Of all things, the chicken wings were amazing. My husband got the Cobb salad with Mahi Mahi which was great. This is a wonderful place to dine on the beach walk. It also happens to be at the villas we are staying at. We have visited this cafe 3 times already with 2 during breakfast and once for dinner. They certainly have the breakfast down but we have mixed reactions on the dinner. The seating has always been immediately and the servers were very good at taking the order in a timely manner. The breakfast menu is good. I had a bad experience with the fish and chips for dinner. Sent it back twice and called it quits. They did offer a third choice but I was done at that point. Chef was very accommodating and they just refunded my meal. I would certainly continue to give them my business just because of the outstanding customer service. read more

First, you need to go into the lobby of the Maui Kaanapali Villas to get a parking pass. Then you walk towards the ocean, around a pool and find this place. It is cute, on the beach, the staff was great as was the food. We went on Taco Tuesday and loved the tacos. It was the perfect way to wrap up our trip to Maui. read more

The ambiance is nice with indoor and outdoor seating with views of the ocean. Service was super quick and the bloody mary was tasty. Food: Kamehameha Omelet: 8/10. Lots of food with potatoes and choice of toast but not as much filling to the egg ratio of the big omelet. Huevos Rancheros: 7/10. The ranchero sauce was more watery than I like and the beans were not refried and many were a little to el dente. The eggs, however, were perfectly over medium and there was so much Kalua pork I couldn't eat it all. The menu is varied and the location Is awesome so I look forward to going back and trying an eggs benedict. read more

As with many other restaurants in Maui, this one is also located in a resort. Parking was limited, but it wasn't too difficult to snag a spot. The view was beautiful outside, but we did have to request a table change because the flies were bothering us outside. The table was also slightly wobbly. However, since we requested the move after we placed our order, there were limited selections to where we could move to inside. Food portion was HUGE. An entree was definitely shareable between two. Even an order for half a pancake order was huge. The Kalua Pork Huevos Rancheros was not bad. The beans were actually pretty addicting. read more

The place has amazing views! Service was also great! They served the food in a matter of 5-10 mins. The food I would say is a 4/10 if you're looking for local authentic food. The coffee is a basic diner coffee. We got the eggs Benedict and it was okay. I also got the "local plate" but the Portuguese sausage seemed like it had been sitting for some time. It wasn't fresh which makes sense given the time they delivered and the amount of people who eating. We also ordered the macadamia nut pancake and it wasn't as tasty as I thought it would. I'd give the pancake a 3/10. The biggest frustration is if you're just coming here for breakfast and you just follow Yelp provided address as Apple Maps led us to Royal Lahaina which isn't where you park. You should put Maui Ka'anapali Villas and ask for a parking ticket. Will likely not come back for the food for sure. read more

Big MAHALO to Rico R for his fantastic customer service and patience with our group of 4 that turned into 7, then into 5 friends catching up with each other at this cosy restaurant with ocean views. Rico showed us to a large round table which made conversation easier and he looked after us 100%, all with a cocktail umbrella tucked piratically behind one ear :) Great vibes. The restaurant started filling up after we arrived and we waved at a lot of neighbours, so it is a locals hangout as well as tourists. Prices and food are good and they make a mean mocktail, although one of our group loved their strong boozy Mai Tai. What did we order you ask? Mahi Mahi salad - big serving, 3 pieces of beautifully succulent perfectly cooked fish, boiled egg, baby tomatoes, blue cheese and greens. I ate half there and the other half for lunch the next day, and Rico kindly gave me a small container of blue cheese dressing to go Fish tacos - regular fish tacos with fixings but well cooked fish Burger - 2 of our group shared one and they both ate it quickly so obviously delish ;) Cheese curds - deep fried and hot accompanied by a tomato marinara sauce, eat them straight away, piping hot, and enjoy! We had drinks before we ate and were there for a few hours and Rico didn't try to hurry us up, shared a few laughs with us, and made it a really enjoyable visit for everyone. Castaway Cafe absolutely crushed it. I ordered the short rib loco moco and I'm not exaggerating when I say it was incredible. The short rib was tender, packed with flavor, and cooked perfectly -- the kind that falls apart in the best way. The gravy was rich and savory, the rice was on point, and the egg tied everything together like a masterpiece. Portion size was solid, food came out hot and fresh, and the whole meal just hit exactly right. If you're thinking about trying it, get the short rib loco moco. No regrets. I really wanted to love Castaway Cafe. The ambiance and location are absolutely its strongest assets it's a great place to sit, relax, and enjoy the setting. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the price point. The nachos were the biggest letdown. The cheese was clearly canned or jarred, the jalapeños tasted straight from a jar, and the pork was dry. For $22, we expected something fresh and thoughtfully prepared not something that felt thrown together. To make matters worse, it left us feeling sick afterward. The fish and chips were under-seasoned and appeared to be fried in old oil. They came out so dark brown they looked like tree limbs. Crisp is one thing this was something else entirely. Not burnt, but dirty tasting oil. The ceviche was the only dish that came close to being enjoyable. It had decent flavor, but even that was paired with "house-made" chips that were clearly not house-made. The one true highlight of the experience was our server. She was an absolute gem warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. I believe she mentioned she was from Argentina, and she was the best part of the night. I wish I remembered her name so I could give her the credit she deserves. Overall, the view and atmosphere can't carry the food quality or justify the prices. There are better places to spend your money. read more

Stopped here one late morning for brunch. The food was incredible, service was amazing and you couldn't beat the view. My wife had the Macadamia pancakes and I ordered the Kalua Pork Huevos Rancheros and we both had coffee. Honestly, probably the best breakfast we had while staying on Maui. If you're looking for breakfast, lunch, or something in between (brunch) you cannot go wrong coming here. However, if you come early morning expect a line.
