It was surprisingly busy on a Sunday night. Must be a local favorite. Also pleasantly surprised they had live music. Service was prompt and friendly. The poutine with pork belly was amazing! The huckleberry mule and cherry vanilla whiskey sour drinks were a delight. My husband ordered one of the specials, the prime rib tacos. He said they were the second best tacos he's ever had. Unfortunately, I did not order well. I got the fried oysters, which I've never tried before. I've had fresh raw oysters and liked those, but I wasn't thrilled about the deep fried ones. The food and service were average. We liked the menu because it was more than just fried seafood and burgers like most coastal restaurants. They had grilled seafood, tacos, cioppino, and dinner salads. First, there is nothing island about their island tacos. There is no pineapple, nor lime. The server even admitted they havent put pineapple in their island tacos for months. We should have been comped something for the old bait and switch. Instead of island tacos, we just got served regular tacos. Second, the seafood in the cioppino was good. There was shrimp, crab, salmon, and mussels. Portion was good. However, the broth was like a thick creamy marinara sauce. That's not cioppino. Next, the service was spotty. It took awhile before we could order our food. It was at least 10-15 mins. The server was friendly and helpful, but I think she had too many tables. The upside was the restaurant was very clean, nice ambiance, and the coconut shrimp app was delicious. read more

My husband and I came here to celebrate our anniversary. The service was great, everyone was friendly and accommodating. The service was quick. Carla, was covering the bar and hi tops. My lovely wife and I sat at the high top nearest the pass. With a past in restaurant operations, I was very please to encounter a staff focused upon their guests and service level rather than gathering at the pass or nearest wait station to gossip or climb on their phones. I inquired of the manager, and was informed that it was their day off and one of the active staff was the lead for the shift. To hold this level of service when there is a manager present is one thing. To see this from a team and their lead, is cause for applause! We decided to dine here after we reviewed the menu online. We were greeted at entry and seated for a party of four. The restaurant has a separate entry then the bar area. Hostess was nice and attentive to our orders. The food was prepared and brought out rather quickly so we had to make room on the table for the appetizers and dinner selections. Second visit to Castaway's. Beautiful building, great location and delicious food. Bartender server was nice, recommended a great bottle of Cabernet and made us two delicious gin & tonics. It's a shame that our evening ended on a negative note. After spending $250, we wanted a hot toddy before heading back to our hotel. We were told that WA liquor laws prevented her from being able to serve us because food service had ended. Not only did we have a full table of food at the time, we asked for hot toddy's as she dropped our desert. She also told us the two guests sitting behind us wanted to order a drink and she had to deny them too. It seemed as though the main priority for the staff was to get closed and go home instead of accommodating us. My party of four left scratching our heads. I come to Longbeach often over the past couple years and haven't tried yet due the remodeling. I found an open spot at the bar during a busy afternoon, the bartender was busy but quick to take my order and help me choose a few items from the menus. Drinks were good and quick. Salmon chowder could have used a little Tabasco but still good, oysters on the half-shell were great (wished they were served with a little fork as they were still connected), salmon cakes seemed fresh. Called in an order for pickup on a rainy Thursday afternoon. We ordered a cheeseburger with fries, a cup of ranch, a cup of clam chowder and an order of garlic bread. ($37.50 ) The cheeseburger and fries were great my daughter said. Except for they charged us for her ranch that we never got. Upon opening the garlic bread there were 3 little peices of bread that were covered in cold garlic chunks and topped with huge chunks of parmesean cheese. The bread itself was cold to the touch. The cheese looked like it had been sat under a heat lamp to make it seem like it was heated. My main reason for our order was the clam chowder. Im a local of 20 years. I have sent numerous customers to this location for the chowder alone. The chowder had huge chunks of chewy bacon and was watery and tasteless as could be. When my daughter took the bread and chowder back for a refund the server Marissa told us that she would refund us for the bread, but not the chowder because everyone else today said the chowder was good?! Today, marks the day I will never recommend this restaurant for anything besides a drink at the bar or a plain cheeseburger to eat ever again. read more

We to here for dinner while In town for spring break. We ordered the ciopinnio (seafood soup) and seafood lasagna. My husband said the lasagna was very good and filling, the soup was also very tasty and fresh. It was a good portion. It's very messy! But they provided plenty of wet napkins. I docked a star only bc we were feeling a judgey vibe from this place. The way the tables were arranged we were at a table in the middle of the dining room surrounded by booths and we were being stared at by many of the *older* clientele of the restaurant for some reason unknown to us (no we weren't slurping, talking loud or bringing attention to ourselves in any way but kept seeing multiple tables looking at us frequently). A great place to eat in Long Beach for couples and families. The restaurant is divided into two main areas both sort of connected. A primarily bar side with separate entrance and a grill side entrance for families. We arrived on a Friday about 5:00pm. They were starting to get busy. We ate on the grill side. Our server Vika took good care of us. I had turf and my wife had surf. Both meals were fairly quickly served even with the business uptick and were delicious. The place can be a bit noisy, mostly hard surfaces so when busy there is a bit of a racket. That didn't bother us, just mentioning that so if you want a library quiet meal setting during prime time this is not for you. We will be in town for a few days and plan on coming back. My wife and I visit Longbeach Wa several times a year from Seattle, and we make it a point to always eat at Castaways, right in the middle of town on Pacific St. Saturday night, Feb 15 2025, my wife and I walked into Castaways for dinner at around 630, and the place was jammed. Kimber was working as a greeter and a server, and found a wonderful booth for us in the madness. The weather was exceptionally cold and wet, and we did not wish to sit by the door. Kimber treated us like we were the only ones there! She has worked there for a long time. Castaways is blessed to have her. Having the best clam chowder I have ever had helps too. The oyster shooters are very simple just the oyster, some cocktail sauce and lemon. I added Tabasco to mine just to heat up the experience. The pan fried oysters were spot on seasoned just right. The bartender was very friendly, the atmosphere there was very nice, very peaceful. Long Beach is a beautiful place. It's the first time I've been there. Came here for lunch, outstanding service, very friendly and helpful! Food, not so great compared to my last visit a month or so ago. Seared Scallops were bland, chewy and not really seared. Bread and sauce were great, save your money try something else. Island tacos, with cod were decent but fresh Cod shouldn't taste fishy. Halibut and Chips, pass. Halibut was so thin and chewy I didn't eat half of it, texture of rubber. Tater tots crumbled on my plate, sad to say when spending $27 for halibut and chips you leave hungry.
