Disappointing. The shrimp Louie was just kind of blah. Shredded Iceberg lettuce was kind of disappointing. The "thousand Island" dressing was not good. Tasted like creamy ketchup. Able to find a table for the four of us, prompt service and good menu choices (thanks for gluten-free options too). She was very gracious and totally agreed that they were not right and took them off the bill. But she did say that the chef tried to say that they were fresh, not dry etc... I said "why don't you tell the chef to come out and speak to me directly. I am an oyster freak and eat them all over the world. I know oysters. I shuck them all the time." And then I said "I'm literally typing my review right now." I cannot speak of anything else on the menu and disappointed that this happened bc I wanted to try the halibut and chips. But I know that one does not send back food and order something else... especially when the chef tried to deny that the oysters were dead for hours... GROSS! I've been here twice and felt the same way both times - the food is too bland. I love that they have gluten free fish and chips but they use corn meal. Corn meal isn't very tasty on its own and it's dry. It's fine but not memorable and we will only get it again until we find a better gluten free fish and chip option. It's just lacking flavor and seasoning. Also felt their regular fish and chips packed flavor. Well, you can def taste the beer in the batter but that's pretty much it. My husband and I had the best steamer clams we have ever had. The broth they were served with was so tasty you wanted to mop up every single drop. So good. I had the spinach salad and it was fresh with perfect portions of the extras - craisins, nuts, bacon, etc. my husband had fish and chips - they were perfectly cooked and not greasy. What a frustrating experience. Let me begin by saying the service was great and this has nothing to do with them. To the owners - I was offended by the prices versus what I got. I live in a large metro area and am fully aware of the $20 hamburger phenomenon, so when I say I was offended by the portion size it's a legitimate concern. The Kid's menu hamburger for $10 featured a slider that was at best 2.5" in diameter on a small slider bun. I have a 4 and 6yo and they both walked away ravenous. $20 for what was about $2 worth of food. Offensive. We also ordered a "bowl" of chowder, which came in a "bowl" the size of a large coffee mug. I also ordered a "large" salad that came in a smaller shallow bowl. It was laughable. We paid over $80 (we tipped 20% because the service was great, and this is clearly not their fault) for what felt like an appetizer course. There's a lot better value at a nearby chowder spot that I won't name in this review. Parents - you were warned. read more

Second night in a row the wife and I ate here for dinner. It happened to be our first anniversary tonight. I opted for the cioppino. I also asked our waitress Lauren, who was AMAZING, if I could get it spicy. Boy did the kitchen oblige. It was absolutely amazing. I recommend putting your spoon aside, peel the crab completely into the cioppino and using a shell from one of the awesome willapa bay clams as your feeding device. Get your fingers dirty. We started with mozzarella sticks. They were really good except for the really thick one included - it was still cold in the middle. Randy had the (tuna) tacos and a Caesar salad. The tuna was a bit dry and there could have been more sauce but the flavors were good. The Caesar was only ok. I ordered the crab cakes which I really liked. I got it with wild rice because I knew I wouldn't eat the whole thing that night and figured rice with the cakes would be good cold for lunch the next day and it really was. Came in night before last and had an old fashioned from the bar and split that with my Fiance. Then we split a two taco meal and it came with choice of fries. We opted for the garlic ones. Then we split just a cup of clam chowder. Very easy right. Not really, the waitress brought out a club sandwich and fries for us. I don't know how you mess up splitting an order of the shrimp tacos to bringing a club house out. So we had to wait even longer to eat then people who came in way after us that already got their food. Then I was sick all night in the hotel room from eating there. The food was pretty greasy. Almost like Bar food. I expected much better service and much more high quality food for the insane prices they charge here. Definitely am never going back into this place. Dropped by the newly renovated Castaways in downtown Long Beach Washington for lunch today. They should be proud of the renovations. It's nice! Clean and classy, but not pretentious. You can certainly wear your jeans and sweatshirt without feeling like you are under dressed. Best of all; the food was delicious. We started off with a cup of their "award winning" clam chowder. You can taste why it's award winning. It's not your classic thick, creamy kind of chowder. It's much lighter. But chock full of clams (BIG hearty chunks of clams!), perfectly soft potatoes, celery, garlic and other things that make this chowder simply splendid! I ordered the French Dip with tots, while my husband opted for the Crispy Pacific Cod sandwich with garlic fries. We both agreed that his choice was the winner. Three large pieces of incredibly crispy cod fillets on a brioche bun, lettuce, tomato, onion and tartar sauce. It was substantial AND delicious. The cod was perfectly fried and the breading was crispy and light. So good! The garlic fries were wonderful, too. Crispy, fresh with a nice hint of garlic, not in the least but overpowering. My French Dip was good. Nothing special about it. Just good. The amount of roast beef was decent. It could have been elevated to a "great" sandwich with some grilled onions and a different bun. The hoagie roll was soft and squishy; reminiscent of something I could buy off the grocery shelf. I like my hoagie rolls to be more substantial in texture. So, while I didn't dislike it, I could definitely see some improvements to be made. The au jus was nothing special, as well. Some rosemary or other herb infused into it would certainly elevate this sandwich from "just ok" to "awesome". The tots were good....but how do you mess up tots? The hostess and waitress were both friendly and pleasant. Fantastic service. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal at Castaways. Don't miss out on the clam chowder. You won't go wrong with that! All sooo good! I loved that the coleslaw had some sweetness, there was some cranberries or raisins in it. Comfortable seating. Really competent & friendly staff.
