I love my food, ambiance and great service...this get 2/3! And I won't fault them for the shame of a lopsided parking lot they have... Came here on a Tuesday night per a couple's suggestion and we were stunned to see that we were the only patrons inside this vast eatery...it was 6:15 pm. We walked in and fantastic friendly tall waiter was quick to accost us and sit us down. Place seemed very clean! We looked over menu and he came back to us and told us specials. As typical Italian gauge, we tarted with the fried calamari. Marinara was nice and chunky but lacked any flavor. Calamari wasn't greasy but some pieces were cooked to perfection while others were very chewy...watch out grandpa guido and those dentures! The bread they served at the table was god awful but the breadsticks and the whipped sun dried tomato infused butter was sinfully delicious-would have loved to have a good morsel of bread to go with this. I ordered the scallop dish with a lemon garlic sauce accompanied by risotto and spinach-it was ok...would never order again but wasn't the worst meal. It definitely was a tad pricey at $30-taste, presentation and quantity as well as quality were lacking.. My stud muff got the pasta with bolognese sauce-honestly was not good at all-so bland...so, so bland and it did not even look delectable. Couldn't blame the poor waiter who was really attentive but you could tell he was sweating it as we were his only table for the night and we didn't look satisfied at all. We left around 7:45 pm and not only were there no other patrons in this large eatery but no other cars to be found in the lopsided lot! I wish I could agree with other reviewers and their experiences but I am thinking this place may be under different management or maybe they all dined at Costello's as opposed to Castelo's...sadly not for our gang! We love Castello's! We dine here regularly and love bringing friends to enjoy the entire experience. We feel as though we are in Europe in a family restaurant eating home cooked food. Every dish is delicious and they are so accommodating that they are happy to prepare food that isn't even on the menu. The wine list is extensive. My first visit for a friend's birthday dinner. It was exceptional and really I would give it 5++++! All the staff were very cordial and friendly, but the gentleman who greeted us at the door (Norri) and our server, who I apologize I did not get his name were beyond exceptional. We had a Caesar Salad prepared at our table and it was the best caesar I've ever tasted. The veal was delicate and the sauces excellent. We were treated like VIP's. I don't eat Tiramisu. Never have cared for it. But they brought us a sample for the birthday girl....well I ate it and will ONLY eat it here. Last night was our first visit. Charming environment with attentive service. We ordered the specials. Stuffed portobello mushroom was an excellent starter that we shared Whole Bronzino ($28) filleted table side was superb Broiled lobster (easily 1.5 pounds), calamari, shrimp, mussels and clams over homemade linguini in a fra Diablo source was huge and outstanding. An incredible value at $31 and enough for lunch the next day. We ended with hot cappuccino that was truly hot and in a good size cup. If there was a weak link it was dessert. Kenny the owner is such a class act with heart! It was an empty lunch passing through CT on our way home from DC, and we were the only diners!!! What a pity! Kenny said he'll be working on the lunch menu, because - righfully so - people don't like dinner portions for lunch. Interesting enough, bring a friend and share! Traditional bad/flavorless bread - perfect for dipping, and he even throws in some cheese and olives - nice touch. A very clean approach to "italo-americano" southern italian influenced fare, the food is very well prepared, ingredients are fresh and flavor is not lacking. The fried calamari were so-so, but the carpaccio is freshly made, pounded to order - never frozen - and the calamari with capellini, cherry tomatoes and olives was light and flavorful! He takes great pride in his establishment and has an incredible selection of old vintage wines - french and italian. Location is terrible, and when you pull in, you think you'll hear Marissa Tomei from my cousin Vinny run downstairs to greet you! But NO! Low and behold the dining room is spacious, full of light and tastefully decorated. The wine display case is beautiful, and Kenny is all that and a bag of potato chips - hard working, sincere and with deep pride in ownership. So take a lunch break and bring a friend, and tell them I sent you! They take open table reservations, and lunch gives you a 1,000 point table - gets you quicker to that Open Table cheque! What a nice surprise Castello turned out to be. Great wait staff & excellent food. The apps were very go and then we had the Spaghetti alla Castello and Linguine white clam sauce. Both sauces very tasty and pasta cooked perfectly. Finished the night with coffee and very good ricotta cheese cake. The only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is the noise level in the dining room. Outstanding experience tonight. Have never been to Danbury so was looking for a great spot and very happy to have found Castello via Yelp. Food was amazing from the Bolognese to the chicken scarp to the salmon; everything was great. To top it off, it's a family restaurant which are always the best. Reminds us of one of our favorite places back home in Utica, NY. The wait staff, I'm assuming brothers, were attentive and engaging. This would definitely be a "go to" place if we lived closer. Was in the area with family and we wanted a good place to eat and went off of Yelp. Unfortunately we could not feel the same as other reviews. There were not many customers at all, however we were basically ignored all night. After seating us, it took almost half an hour for someone to approach our table to order. After that the food took an inordinate amount of time to arrive. Good thing my 2 year old was calm this day otherwise it would've gone south quick. My friends seemed to enjoy their meals(both pasta dishes), and the apps were decent- but honestly nothing that was overwhelmingly amazing. i've had better italian at casual joints- so perhaps i went in with too high expectations? I was really disappointed with my experience here and am surprised at the excellent reviews. It was very slow and expensive, and the food was just okay. We waited a long time before they gave us menus. We ordered a bottle of wine and nothing happened for about 20 minutes. They finally came back and asked us which bottle we had ordered. The Caesar salad was acidic/sour to the point of being almost inedible, and I am a huge Caesar salad fan. The mushroom ravioli was just okay; it was clearly not homemade and was largely tasteless. The fish special was the best thing we ordered. The bread was abysmal (stale and tasteless). Our meal came to $170, including tip, for the 2 of us. For that kind of money, I would have expected the place to be excellent. The meal took approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes. Unfortunately, we won't be back. read more

This restaurant was the best! Our friends had said it was good but we think it was Italian food better than Italy. It doesn't look like much from the outside and is difficult to get into the parking but well worth every effort. The staff is attentive and warm and the restaurant is spotlessly clean. Every order our table had was raved about. The gnocchi the lightest, the veal tender the marinara delicious as well as the eggplant rollitini. I had my wedding reception here in 2015.. everyone loved the food, they had everything set up how I wanted it and the service was great. I have been here since then and their food is delicious! Went to Castello a few weeks ago. When the waiter came to make our Caeser salad "tableside" I was terrified it would be one of those awful dated shows with an unhappy ending. Turned out to be one of the best caeser slads ever, freshly made, great anchovy, caper, galic flavor. Nice veal with mushrooms, nice chicken with spicy saucage, good tiramisu. Overall 3+ stars. Went back tonight had one ot the worst meals ever. The salad (which was great last time) was brought out from the kitchen already plated. It looked like it was made days ago, it was tastless; the lettuce was soggy and limp, the dressing tastless. Seafood rissotto fra diablo was also tastless with rubber calamari and scallops. Duck breast ordered rare was cooked so far into the well done that it was destroyed beyond measure. Shrimp scampi had been cooked so long you could have used them as shoe leather. Grossly overpriced, dreadful, tacky decor that could be forgiven if the food was good. It was not. EDIT one day later. And today, I got an email from "Open Table" telling me that the resaurant filed a complant that I had not honored my reservation. Just the perfect finish to a horrible experience. read more

We love this place! We found it on a recommendation. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but that is the only negative things about the place. It's atmosphere is quiet and elegant. The service is very helpful, attentive and professional. We typically order the excellent tableside prepared Ceasar salad (Insalata Cesare per Due), a glass of wine, and usually a special or one of these pastas: Cappellini Castello, Pappardelle al Fungi, Rivanoli Pomodoro. The homemade pastas are wonderful and the ingredients taste fresh. While we enjoy other restaurants in the area for certain reasons, Castello's has everything we like in a restaurant in one place: great food, atmosphere and service. read more

3rd visit was Saturday June 13th Maitre'd was condescending I ordered sea to be prepared in kitchen with penna. I asked waiter to not add oil to my pasta. Restaurants do this so the pasta appears fresh. Its just oily Maitre'd decides he wants to demonstrate the deskinning of the fish in the half empty dining room to show off.
