It was very small but we went around 9ish and there was only 3 other groups there, so we didn't have a problem. Our waitress was Katie, and she was great! She let us taste the wines before ordering them and we loved chatting with her. She also gave us a free Polaroid picture and it was so nice as my mom is visiting. A great keepsake! The food was so so good! We loved everything we ordered. It was all so unique and tasty. The confessional booths were also very fun to hang out in. Would definitely recommend going here!!

When we pulled back around to the front, there were some yellow pylons near the front of the entrance and some garbage on one of the outdoor tables and it looked very dark inside as if the lights were off, we figured they had to have been closed so we drove off to have dinner elsewhere. A bit later, we get a notice from OpenTable that we did not check in so I called the restaurant the following day to ask them what happened, the nice young lady that answered the phone told us that they were open at the time of our reservation. If they were indeed open, what a turn off to have only two cars in the parking lot, pylons in front and trash stacked on the outdoor table, I can't imagine what the inside would look like or the kitchen.

We just wanted a drink before dinner so no food was had. From the looks of the dishes that were coming out, they looked really nice. Tapas style dishes made for sharing. With happy hour, there was a couple dishes that was included. Also they offered a deal with a charcuterie board and a bottle included. We just went with a glass of their house red and white. And an order of spicy margaritas. It's a full bar so that was nice. Margaritas were great and house wine was decent. The service was great with the bartender who was a doll and very sweet. Morgan's in the Desert: Disappointment After Disappointment. $400 for Meh…read more After living in La Quinta for four years, we were ready to try Morgan's, as it's one of the last foodie restaurants in the Coachella valley that we haven't tried. We arrived early for our reservation, excited to grab a drink at the bar before dinner. Then we were told our table was already available... only to be seated at a dining table in the bar, off to the side, where apparently servers do not exist while staring at the back of the pianist and the barflies. The two bartenders were fantastic--especially Brian, who was working at warp speed--but they already had a packed bar to manage. Adding dining tables to their workload was clearly not realistic. Why were we seated there? Still a mystery. Reservation problems: I booked through the QR code advertised in The Gem for the August prix fixe dinners at La Quinta Resort's restaurants. When we arrived, we were told the prix fixe menu wasn't available that day. Sorry! So we ordered bread and oysters instead. About 15-20 minutes later, the manager came over and said they would honor the prix fixe after all. Great! Except... we'd already ordered appetizers. ‍ And wow, was it SLOW. We were seated at 5:30 and still didn't have our entrées at 7:00. Drinks regularly sat empty, and once the restaurant got busy around 6:30, water refills disappeared completely. Did I mention it was 110 degrees outside? The food? A mixed bag--but overall, wildly overpriced and underwhelming. * Oysters: Ice-cold and served with a good mignonette. Also pricey. * Bread: Fresh and warm, but the olive tapenade was aggressively salty. Again, overpriced. * Watermelon salad: The winner! Refreshing, flavorful, and the spicy nuts gave it a nice kick. Highly recommend. * Chicken cacciatore: Dry chicken, undercooked tomatoes, overcooked pasta. Never again. * Oscar filet: Delicious and well-prepared, but nothing memorable or special--especially for the price. Bottom line: We spent about $400 for a frustrating, painfully slow, mostly mediocre meal. There are too many great restaurants in the area to spend that kind of money on "meh." We won't be back.

Eating dinner at Catalan was definitely the highlight of my recent trip to Palm Springs. My boyfriend and I decided to go on the final night of our vacation to treat ourselves to a nice meal away from the downtown Palm Springs scene. Boy, were we ever surprised by the amazing dinner we had. We were promptly seated as soon as we walked in to the restaurant, and even though we did not sit outside, I was impressed with the indoor/outdoor seating options. I always like to start my meals with a nice glass of wine, and I was truly impressed with the wine list. Catalan has a large selection of $25 wines by the bottle, and we selected a delicious bottle of Pinot Noir. We started our meal with the sauteed garlic octopus. The octopus was seasoned well and perfectly cooked. I loved the addition of the crispy black chickpeas to the dish. We also ordered the Romaine Salad to split, which was essentially a nicely prepared caesar salad. My boyfriend ordered the Jidori chicken for his entree, and it was simply to die for. Probably the most tender and juicy bite of chicken I have had in YEARS!!! The skin on the outside was perfectly crisp, and the portion was very generous. It was definitely one of the stars of the entire meal. The chicken came with smashed potatoes on the side, which we also very yummy and a great compliment to the chicken. I ordered the Grilled Arctic Char, and I was in HEAVEN! Perfectly cooked, with an very well prepared romesco sauce on the side. I am not a huge olive fan, but the flavors blended beautifully and I devoured every bite. The service at the restaurant was flawless and we definitely felt well taken care of the entire time. This place is nice. Good food, good price. The drinks are cheap and top notch. So, why am I giving it only 3 stars? Because the service was terrible. We had an older woman named Elaine (probably in her early 50's) wait on us and we couldn't have been more disappointed. First off, we weren't even greeted for about ten minutes. Our drinks didn't arrive in a timely matter and we noticed that the surrounding tables had gotten bread and of course, we didn't...until we asked. Our first course came quickly and was absolutely wonderful. The second course took far too long and when it finally came, the dishes were given to the wrong people. We didn't say anything and corrected it between ourselves. We waited and waited for refills until we finally flagged her down and also ended up waiting a long while for our check. The food was wonderful and the flavors rich, but we will make sure we get a different waitress next time we come in. I had the Skirt Steak and loved everything about it. The side of sunchoke and cheese gratin was amazing. It also had a salsa verde drizzled on the steak and it complimented the it perfectly. My wife had the Ribeye steak which was a very large serving (no, she did not finish it!) and also loved it but had to tell the waitress what temp. she wanted it because the lady did not ask. Our friends loved the Paella and the whole Seabass. I wish our experience had been better. We will give this place another shot in hopes that our next waiter will treat us correctly. read more

Service : Wow! Service is back! Food was fun, new, and absolutely delicious. Cory the Bartender, who doubled as a Superhero, tended bar while serving 3 other tables and taking time to interact with me and my husband. I had a couple questions about the menu and Cory answered them like he was gonna cook it himself! He interacted with his tables like he was so proud of the food he was serving, service he was providing, and the family that started Catalan. Food: I had the Scallops, which I was sold on as soon as I read the menu. Best scallops ever!! They sat on butternut squash purée with wild mushrooms, chorizo, that's all I remember. Mmmmm. My husband had beef short ribs (what's new), hubby loves his red meat, but I actually splurged and had a bite of this Amazingly tender beef rib with polenta and some delicious sauce. I loved this place. We had a blast with our friends and loved the food. The swordfish is the best we've had and the Sangria is perfect. This place has a true fine dining feel and my husband and I will be back. We had an awkward moment with one of the employees but that did not change the fact that this is possibly the best restaurant in town. I went into detail about this on my previous review that is not showing. Needless to say the food is exceptional and service is great. We were very pleased. If you want to experience something new, refreshing, and different from anything else in the desert, COME HERE! Service is great and the atmosphere is perfect. The place was booked on a Wednesday so make sure to make a reservation. We're thinking of coming again tomorrow. My husband says we will keep going until we have tried everything on the menu. Took my brother here for his birthday what a great well ran restaurant. Live music amazing cool patio and the food was authentic big flavor! There's a place I love to go to in NewYork that makes so much food a day and when they run out they just run out of it. To me these are the real deal restaurants no cheap throw it in a pan 7 min pasta with scallops. Dishes here are made hours before with love and expertise from a real chef like Mario Batali style! Service here was outstanding very professional and carried out with a smile! Staff were super friendly and owner and chef came by our table to see how the food tasted. When it comes to extraordinary Spanish cuisine, exceptional service, and a welcoming atmosphere - Catalan exceeds my expectations every time! Last night I had Chef Drew's new Catalonian Seafood Stew - it was a culinary delight - incredibly fresh seafood perfectly cooked in a tasty saffron broth. I also enjoyed the owner's wine recommendation of a Spanish Rose. It was light and refreshing (not sweet at all), especially on a warm desert evening. We tend to sit in the bar as we love the superior service of the bartender, Cory. Rest assured, however, you will get the same level of service in the dining room as well. Catalan Mediterranean Cuisine is a great place to enjoy authentic and delicious Italian and Spanish dishes in Rancho Mirage. The restaurant has a cozy and elegant atmosphere, with a spacious patio and a sleek atrium. The service is friendly and attentive, and the wine list is impressive. This was my first time to Catalan and must say it was an amazing experience. My daughter had juat flown in who resides in northern spain. Upon our arrival we did not have a reservation however were able to get seated in the bar very promptly by the chef owner who was very kind accomodating and apologetic for our wait. I must say the entire evening was amazing food from the grilled octopus, shrimp, mushrooms and many others to mention a few. My daughter said it was like she was back home. Been here several times with family and friends. Came recently for Tuesday tapas special for $20 a person. The food here is sometimes very lovely and other times just OK. As for the special, The bar was packed with locals, I guess they know about the special already. With that said, we arrived slightly late and were told by a waitress that they only bring out a certain amount of food for the special. I haven't been here in a while and I regret it has taken me this long to come back. Saturday evening and the place was packed. Thankfully we had a reservation and were seated promptly. My seafood stew was delicious and the chef had substituted prawns for lobster :-0 The rest of my party enjoyed the paella and the veal skirt steak and they said it was very flavorful. From the start we were greeted quickly even though it was busy. We were seated in a nice spot in the center of the restaurant in a courtyard looking area. We were warmly greeted and given water, great bread/dip and told the specials. We had the tapas trio of duck skewers, goat cheese peppers and chips. My 4 friends and I had dinner there on a Saturday night. My one friend had the Samon which was ok and the rest of us all had the seafood Paella. we all thought it was very bland dry. Also overpriced we also had the Charred deep water Spanish Octopus which we all thought it tasted bad. I have owned several restaurants and for the prices they charge hey should have tablecloths instead of just older bare wooden tables. I do not recommend this restaurant the food and atmosphere were very poor. read more

I lived in Spain several years ago and fell in love with the food, among other things. I get really excited when I see Spanish cuisine but I am almost always disappointed by the price or the quality of food. Catalan is AMAZING! The prices are very reasonable and the food is quite authentic. I just love the basil martini's and the paella is delicious (they certainly don't skimp you on the meat). The paella is the best I have had anywhere. Also, the lamb tacos melt in your mouth. The service by Corey is exceptional. Ask for Corey; he makes excellent suggestions. The music is live but not too loud, so you can enjoy your meal and have a great conversation. There is nothing in the Palm Springs area that even compares to the Mediterranean food at Catalan. Tried this restaurant for the first time during restaurant week. Would definitively go back. Everything was great... food, service, atmosphere. They didn't have the outside courtyard open.... it looked kind of abandoned... maybe it was just this time of year but if they would install some misters that would be a fabulous place to eat... especially since the rest of the restaurant was filled. read more

I just had a great dinner at Catalan this evening with my wife for the first time and had a truly amazing meal (swordfish). My wife had paella that she said was bettter than any she had in Spain. And so was our sweet and lovely waitress, Alo. She's attentive, friendly, charming and such a doll. Wifey told her "you're the best waitress we've had in the entire Coachella Valley. And I agree 100%. Wifey's hibiscus margarita was unique, flavorful and refreshing. She forget to tell them "no salt." But it all worked out for the better, because the salt & chili powder spice rim on the glass, kicked it up another notch. I sampled it with a couple sips and totally agree. I'm generally a h2o dude when I eat...and loved the glass water bottle left table-side. More restaurants need to offer this. All our food was outstanding. My Branzino/fish was excellent quality and prepared perfectly. But a little too much sauce for my liking. I prefer Branzino when it's grilled whole with a light sauce. The piccata style was prepared well and the texture too. The sauce was good but a little salty for me -- especially with all the capers, and would prefer a little more lemon flavor. The rice was overly salty and wifey mentioned it to me before I even had my first bite. She had the Bosa Verde and enjoyed it very much. We both happily cleaned our plates. The squash was perfect and paired well with our entrees. Free complementary birthday dessert for wifey was just okay. Though we appreciated the thought and celebratory gesture...it was prepared with way too much gelatin and was like thick tres leche milk jello...and with ice cream too on top -- diary overkill. The carmel sauce was right on the money. Perhaps the preparation is their take on this dessert? Next time, we're going to be all over that Carlata Cake we saw at one of the other tables. The service is top-tier & polished. Couldn't ask for better hospitality. Along with Alo, was Daniel (who I recognized from Salsas) and the bartender Alex, who both happily joined in on the action. Chef Oscar, also made his way to our table to say hello & Happy Birthday. And of course let's not forget the classy & gracious owner, Fernando, who we shared a wonderful conversation with. He's a sharp dressed man, with lots of restaurant and resort history in the Coachella Valley. The restaurant & bar decor is simple yet chic, elegant and cozy. The lighting & room temp was perfecto. And the chairs at our table were extremely comfortable -- which encouraged more enjoyment and lingering. I've read some reviews claiming the restaurant is very loud. We did not experience that. Thankfully. The octopus alone is enough to bring us back for a lite bite at the bar...and more dining experiences to sample more of the menu, for both lunches & dinners. Looking forward to trying their ahi tacos -- served only at lunch. My wife had her choice to dine at any restaurant she wanted for her birthday. Since we both love great fish, we narrowed it down to Oceana and their reputation. The service was fast and timely manner when we were there (some reviews had complaints about their services). The menu is small but has good variety. All the dishes are playful twist on comfort food. The presentation is rustic and farm like. For appetizers, we had Hamachi ($22): slides of raw yellow tail served with blood orange, ponzu sauce. It is our favorite dish. It is flavorful and fresh. The ponzu sauce is well balanced with citrusy of blood orange. For main dishes, we had pan roasted chillean sea bass ($48) and short ribs ($44). Sea bass was cooked to perfect, crispy skin, very well seasoning with asian twist of ginger- spiced sauce, bok choy and coconut rice. Short ribs was very moist and tender but tamarind glace is a bit sweet. We also tried strawberry matcha which is pretty refreshing. I ordered the pork and shrimp rolls for my app. My friends both ordered the hearts of palm Caesar salad. The fried shrimp rolls were served on a tall plate that came up to my chin. Making them hard to cut and eat. No plate. I should have asked for one. The wrapping used on the rolls was very thick. Almost cracker-like. I was underwhelmed. The salads were fine, regular Caesar salads with canned hearts of palm mixed in. Our server didn't offer any pepper. My main was the ahi tuna bowl, my friends had the vegetarian burrito bowl and the smash burger. Spoiler alert, it is not a smash burger. Just a regular burger. The tuna bowl was unlike the menu photo. Instead of slices of seared ahi, I received a bowl of warm sushi rice with marinated tuna chunks, chopped cucumber, dried noodles, mashed avocado. It was a very strange combination. The warm rice and the raw fish. The burrito bowl was warm and fresh but it is on a bed of wilted (from the heat of the ingredients) lettuce? No one wants to eat slimy lettuce. Having been to another Top Chef contestant restaurant and enjoying it (Girl and the Goat in Chicago), we had high hopes for Kestrel. It was a letdown.
