This is my go to place for hh and otherwise. The food is always fresh and delicious, well presented, and it's a beautiful restaurant in a gorgeous setting. The staff are always top notch friendly and provide incredible service. From the fresh oysters to the crab deviled eggs to their well sized burger and yummy perfectly prepared drinks you can't go wrong here with anything you order unless you haven't left room for dessert! We had a great experience at Catch 54. We went for happy hour 4-6. Had $1 oysters, calamari, deviled eggs, and $3 beers. The oysters and apps were awesome and the service was even better. Very attentive despite being short staffed. Everyone was super friendly and the atmosphere was clean, elegant, without being pretentious. The views of the bay from the deck are beautiful. Ahh such an amazing restaurant! We were a big group and ordered a bunch of stuff, all exceptionally good. The mussels with cream and mustard sauce was just out of this world. Could not keep myself from dipping the bread in it. The bread too was dense and delicious. Seafood gumbo - was great, not too spicy (maybe to a Korean). It wasn't so much of a stew than an assortment of various seafood with sauce. The highlight was the scallops, so thick and chewy. Grits, oysters, crap cakes - all good!!! read more

Absolutely Disappointing!!!! Went there in 2012 and it was first class. This weekend was a disaster! No branded beer! No Heineken, etc just fruity high Alcohol content fruit and chocolate beer. I tried some samples and was just disgusted. I ordered the oysters. They had heavy breading and the tarter sauce was TERRIBLE! they can't even make tarter sauce. When I sent the beer back the waiter said "I'll see if the manager will take it off the bill" hu? We left most of our meal, all of our beer and just asked for the check. NO MANAGER CONCERN!!! We will NEVER GO BACK! Sodel is supposedly the best at the beach but my experience is not good at Ocean View Brewery, etc. you think they get the beach offering and they ruin the traditional meals and add TV dinners and heavy meat dishes. SO GOOD. Service was great! We got the 54 burger, shrimp and grits, and Chesapeake chicken. We enjoyed every dish, and everybody was satisfied. We got the crab dip and shaved Brussels sprouts , and they were delicious. They gave us complimentary bread with a delicious cinnamon-type of butter. I wish the bread was hotter and a bit toastier, but it was delicious. The only "bad" review is that the clam chowder was not what we expected. It had a tomato base, and didn't taste like the usual chowder. It was okay. But it wasn't too big of a deal and doesn't affect my rating too much. We got the Sodel lime pie, and it was delicious. Our first night in Fenwick and we were starving! They told us 45 mins. After 1.5 hours we were told our table wasn't ready because the previous diners were still hanging out and not ready to leave yet. How about encourage them along some?! Also I tried to buy a gift card for my sister while there and was told on three different occasions "you'll have to give me some time" and then " you'll have to go to the bar".....tried the hostess, the downstairs bar and the upstairs bar. No one wanted my free money. Ok?! I said never mind. Also our waitress never came back at the end. Once we finally tracked her down, she said " you could've left it on the table", uh no we aren't leaving $200 in cash just laying around. Go somewhere else, they're just too busy! So wanted to like this place as a more upscale choice for OC dining. The 5 cheese tortellini with shrimp was delicious. Drinks were really disappointing. Campari spritz was all bitter, no flavor. Seasonal sangria tasted like watered down white wine, no fruit except orange slice. Chicken Chesapeake entree had good chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans but the Chesapeake part? More a cream sauce heavy on the onions and extremely light on the crab. Added on a crab cake that was no better than a frozen store brand selection. Service was quick and the ambiance is nice, but overall the food/drinks disappointed. read more

I wish it would have been crispier but overall it was good. My wife, who was celebrating her birthday, opted for the filet. It came out completely overdone. Not only was it over done, it had a strange texture. To me, it didn't appear to be filet. She decided to send it back and I didn't blame her. I would have done the same and I never send food back. The second steak came out basically raw. We decided to just leave at that point. They were very apologetic. Our most recent waitress, Lexi was super nice and attentive. The choice of menu options will satisfy any type of diner. The buck-a-shucks never disappoint. The crab cakes are delicious and go great with the shaved brussels salad. If you are vegetarian or gluten free the farmers bowl is a perfect dish! I just had the striped bass served over mashed potatoes and a medley of vegetables. My wife had the scallops which is her "go to", both were perfect. One of our favorite appetizers is the mussels. It's not a place to go if you're black. We had to sit as about 10 other parties. One the exact size including the exact number of adults, kids and an infant all got seated before us. Once the waiting area was entirely cleared and I spoke up, our dirty table was finally ready. We had to find someone to wipe down our table and chairs and the given a sub par explanation. I didn't want to stay, but we came for a friends birthday and she wanted to stay, but I'll never be back and I'll warn any black person to stay far away from this place. Update: Management and my server Samantha promptly reached out to me to show their care and concern. My experience with my server was amazing, Samantha went out of her way to make my friends birthday amazing and make us feel welcomed. The manager showed true concern in wanting to fix the issue and for that I am appreciative and will revisit the next time I am in the area. read more

This little gem of a restaurant wasn't actually on our dinner plans - we were going to go down the street to one coastal, but they were only accepting reservations and we didn't have any, so we had to look elsewhere. We ventured down 54 to Catch 54 for dinner and drinks, and we were dumbfounded on why we haven't ever been here before. To start, the bar staff downstairs were phenomenal, and we ordered some drinks and oysters, and were surprised by how incredible the house oyster hot sauce was, to the point we bought a bottle! We sat down upstairs, albeit late at night, but I'm 100% certain the evening sunsets would be fantastic, as the views of the bay were beautiful. The seafood stew caught my eye, so I ordered that hoping it would satisfy my fish craving. Wow. Incredible. It's absolutely delicious. Like, it's so yummy, I had to tell the sous chef Todd that this was amazing. The clams/mussels, the fish, the shrimp and sausage, it was an incredible balance between seafood broth and ingredients, with wonderful textures from the various underwater addons paired with the crunchy celery. It was amazing, like to the point I could cry while eating it. I love food. Sure, maybe people believe they are foodies, whatever, but I truthfully enjoy exploring various flavors, especially trying the I go above and beyond my comfort zone. And wildly, to this day, my favorite bowl of soup was this pork ramen I had in Shibuya at Ichiran. It was a masterful dish that I can barely describe, just like this seafood stew, but the moment I ladled a spoonful of broth into my mouth, immediately I reminisced about the soulful and joy I felt that day in Tokyo. This seafood stew is to freaking die for, like honestly, it's just perfection. I didn't know I was going to be taken back like this by this bowl of food. I literally drank the broth when I finished, feeling absolute ecstasy and a heartwarming, yet gentle happiness with every single bite. Look, you may think I am hyping up this dish, but let it's excellence speak for itself. Hats off, this is really an experience you MUST try if you come here. I mean, I immediately felt the need to come home and write up this review. I really have to vouch for this place, and sure my word probably means nothing, but if you're ever there, and you are contemplating what to order, I swear, the seafood stew will rock your world. Great food and our waitress was very amenable, quick and knowledgeable about the menu. Ambiance left a little to be desired as it was loud, but the food and wine outshone any of that. This review is based solely on the noise level of the restaurant. Our party of 3 waited in the bar for a table to be available. It was unpleasant due to a noise level so high that conversation was nearly impossible. We hoped that the dining area would be quieter. We were then taken to the dining area and that was just as unpleasant as the bar. At that point we decided to leave. Too bad. This looks like it might be a good restaurant & the staff was courteous but the acoustics spoil everything. For reference, we had previously eaten at a few other restaurants in the area. Best meal in a very, verrrrrrry long time! The oysters are very reasonably priced and delicious (if available I recommend the Sweet Jesus : plump and perfectly briny). Crab tots are a big win as well! On Mondays ALL entrees, including the fresh fish, are half price! The short rib mac and cheese transforms everyone's favorite delicious side dish to sublime main course. However the star of the evening was the seafood stew. Cioppino(sp?) has never had such a well done presentation in a non-Portugese setting. Each bite was perfectly cooked. From hearty swordfish to buttery scallop to the paprika filled sausage, every spoonful brought a smile to my face. If you want the turn and burn, quick in and out experience I suggest you find another option. But if you're willing to engage in conversation with your companions, enjoy a seat overlooking the bay (harbor? tide pool?), and take your time, this is the spot!!! Oh. The service was great and friendly. The food was fresh and good. The only turn down was the drinks. Our large party ordered the steamed clams, salad wedge, mussels, crab pasta, roasted brussel sprouts, lobster bisque, and a grilled halibut. I'm usually not a fan of seafood, but all the seafood here was beautifully prepared. The crab pasta was one of the highlights. There was so much lump crab meat in the dish. Only reason why I'm not giving this place perfect rating is because of some small mishaps. Wait time was suppose to be 30 minutes, but took a lot longer. Some of the food was bland. We noticed that the halibut was a bit dry and under seasoned. Oysters came after our entrees came out and the seating is a bit tight. I've been here 3-4 times and I've never had a bad meal. Love the outdoor seating right on the bay. The deck is only steps alway from the water so it's a charming scene. The service has always been on point. Some of the dishes I've ordered and enjoyed: scallops, oysters from the raw bar, crab dip, steak, fried shrimp, tater tots, short rib Mac and cheese. We went to the restaurant with three kids (6,3,2) and we had a great time. The restaurant is beautiful. Views of the bay and sunset. Our server, Chelsea was so nice and attentive. With the kids she took our order for them right away and we were served very quickly. We ordered the blue fish dip which was really good. I wasn't sure what to expect but it is crave worthy. We also got the oysters Rockefellar and steamed clams. Very large appetizer portions, all very good. Our main course was a special, fried soft shell crabs and we also had the gumbo. The crabs were big and it was a well balanced dish with the fried crabs and a fresh cucumber and tomato salad. I really loved the seafood gumbo which was served with grits. The kids menu was a bit limited but it was fine by my kids. Large kids portions for a fair price. I really enjoyed our meal and I would definitely recommend it for families. read more

Newly rebuilt, with an interesting menu, decent wine list, and raw bar Catch 54 has a lot of potential. Our top selection was a day scallop ceviche with jalapeños onion and capers that was very good. The roasted mussels were also well done, the fried calamari tender but the batter overwhelmed the flavor. Oysters were good if a bit pricey. The new space is quite pleasing - sorta upscale city chic. Nice outside seating. Where catch 54 falls down is on the service. It started with a predicted 60 min wait that was changed before we ordered drink #2. Then s strange "out of order" progression of our order. Amateurish would be a kind description. It included completely forgetting part of our order- which due the wierd backward we were served, did not realize until it was too late. This isn't just a server issue, it's mgmt, the kitchen, and inexperienced wait staff. It really detracted from an otherwise reasonably good dining experience. Hopefully they'll fix it before Catch gets caught by surprise. read more

Perfect spot for our last dinner of our beach vacation! We sat on the deck on the bay -- beautiful setting! And tables were appropriately spaced for social distancing. Our server Yanna provided fantastic service. Food was delicious. My family enjoyed the calamari, seafood gumbo, shrimp and grits, buttermilk fried shrimp, and fish and chips. We got there a bit late Friday of Memorial weekend for dinner (9:20) but immediately we were sat outside on a nice porch with a great view. Server immediately asked us what time it was when we ordered two drinks and said oh ok because last call is at 9:45.... We then ordered our food right away since we could tell time was of the essence here... my husband got the blackened tuna and I had the seafood stew. Both dishes were good and the drinks were okay (we didn't order seconds) but for the price ($$$$) I wish we hadn't been so rushed. 10pm seems very early to close at the beach, especially on a holiday weekend. read more
