I recently visited Catch 54 with my family, and unfortunately, our experience was marred by the treatment we received from the older female hostess. Upon arriving, my 6 year old was excited for a steak, but our enthusiasm quickly faded when we encountered the older hostess. She seemed less than welcoming and made it clear that having kids with us was a problem. When we asked for a happy hour table, she informed me and the 6 year old that it would be "at least an hour wait" but we could immediately have a full-priced menu, so the 6 year old and I left the restaurant. To make matters worse, my husband (who had been in the car with a napping kid) decided to go inside without the kids to see if he could grab a table. To our surprise, he was seated at a happy hour table within five minutes. This stark contrast in treatment felt unfair and left us feeling unwelcome as a family. The way we were treated by the older hostess was disheartening - I guess she was never a child herself whose family liked happy hour prices like the tables full of campers downing cheap oysters and lite beers. It's disappointing when a dining experience is overshadowed by poor service, especially when it comes from someone in a position of hospitality. That being said, the younger hostess (name began with an S) was kind and seemed to have much more empathy for us, our actual server (one of the male bartenders) was great. I hope Catch 54 can address this issue - and let me be explicitly clear - I understand that wait times are estimates and thing change quickly, but this was not one of those times - the attitude and lack of an sense of hospitality were palpable from the older hostess. read more

When was the best local restaurants in our area. Food is fresh. And the menu is diverse. Services always. First class. And the location is lovely. Especially during the summer seasons. They are one of a few restaurants that stays open in offseason which is really appreciated by the residence. The wine selection is outstanding. It's a huge place with a couple of bars. It's definitely a beach coastal vibe but tastefully done. We sat upstairs and our server was awesome. She was helpful with making food selections. The salad was massive but so good. We got clams and they were on the smaller side but the broth was so good we were sopping it up with the bread. Well. I wish I could say I tried the food. It looks really good on their website. Studied the menu and knew exactly what I wanted. So I get there for a bit early for my reservation (I am anxious you know) and then it hits me. BAM! There is no parking to be found anywhere! Not in the lot, not on the street. Across the street there is a plethora of signage telling you where NOT to park. Being disabled, I cannot park way down the street and walk 3 blocks to get there. I had to cancel my reservation using my phone. I hope someone else enjoyed my spot. What a complete let down. Oh well, I guess you can say it is very popular when looking as how all of the parking was taken up. Just be warned about the situation and plan accordingly. My sister and I went here for dinner and it was amazing. We started with oysters which had amazing flavor. The appetizer also came out quick which was great because we were very hungry. For my entree I went with the Country Fried Chicken, which is something I typically wouldn't order at a restaurant. I'm glad I went with our server's recommendation because I loved it. The gravy on top was so so good. The chicken was crispy and juicy. Our server was great and made sure we were enjoying everything and was very quick to refill drinks. We sat right next to the water, which gave us a great view of the sunset while enjoying our meal. I have been here in the past with larger groups and haven't had the best experience. I regularly patronize Catch 54 but have concerns over the food quality my last 2 visits. Most recently I had their Sunday night Chicken Parmesan. The chicken was overcooked that the edges were burned and the chicken was dried out. There was no cheese on the chicken at all and not enough sauce to even make it bearable to eat. The crab bombs had a good amount of crabmeat but the texture was a bit off for me. The add on chicken was a lot of chicken and the add on shrimp was only 4 pieces. We all liked the apps and the cocktails. Service was excellent. We sat outside on the dock and had about a 20 min wait for 5 people on a Friday night. I'd go back here for sure! read more

If you're staying in north OCMD or Fenwick, this place is a must. One of the nicest vibes - without totally blowing your budget - you will find in the area. The place is right on the bay and if you're lucky enough to score an outside seat, you will not be disappointed. Indoor is also well decorated, clean, and bright. The 2 bar areas fill up fast! You can make a reservation or hope there's room for a walk in. We've done both. Tonight they were able to take our group of 10 right away at 4:30 without a reservation (and we already made another for later this week). Our server Emily was super friendly and handled our large group (including 1 year old) perfectly! All the staff was great and so accommodating - thank you for letting him wave up and down the aisles while waited! The specials change regularly but everything is fresh. Prices are comparable for the area, but really this place is one of our faves and we are here every year. Highly recommend the mussels appetizer and ask for extra bread. Not sure what's in the sauce, but it's addicting and I'd like to bathe in it. read more

For the most part, really enjoyed this dinner. We came here on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend with a large group, so the wait was an hour and 40 minutes long (as we expected). Luckily, Catch 54 allows you to order drinks at the bar and bring them outside while you wait - makes a huge difference! After this, we were finally seated on the outdoor patio upstairs - a very cute area with a nice view of the bay. We started with some drinks (my Moscow Mule was pretty good, but not the strongest), Crab Deviled Eggs (delicious! especially with their house hot sauce), and Truffle parmesan tater tots. The Tater tots are supposed to be a side, but the portion size is massive, so be prepared! They were very good, but I do wish they came with some kind of dipping sauce. We also put in an order for some oysters, which sadly didn't come out until after out entrees - not ideal. For my entree, I got the Red & Gold beet salad, which was good but not amazing (would love it if there was more cheese and candied pecans). My friends liked their food for the most part, but make sure to emphasize any dietary restrictions (we asked for no bacon in one of the dishes, and still found some). I enjoyed my dinner here on a spring weekday night. I'm sure it gets very busy during peak beach season. We almost sat outside but it was a little too chilly with the breeze coming off the water. If it's warm enough I would recommend sitting outside with the beautiful view. I had a gin and tonic and the butterfly shrimp but it seems that you can't go wrong with anything off the menu. My friend got the seasonal farmers bowl and it looked refreshing and delicious! The service was great and we enjoyed sitting by the window but the bar area looks like a fun spot to hang out too! We came in on Thursday night, when they were offering an amazing 25% off. Went to the main floor bar which was hopping. Immediately greeted by friendly bartender. I come here every time I come to OC. It's classy and has a really nice atmosphere and cocktails. Love the sardines, crab dip and calamari appetizers. Usually I get whatever fresh fish special looks good and it's always delicious. Last time we were here on easter and they had brunch. It was so good I told them they really need to start doing brunch all the time. Our waitress was super nice and I liked her vibe, she recommended the honey cream cheese pound cake and oh boy was she right, it was one of the best desserts I've ever had in OC, get it! Let me start off by saying that this place does have good food. However, I was definitely left feeling disappointed. We had never been to Fenwick Island but solely ventured from Bethany just to visit this restaurant. Let's start with the positives. This restaurant is in a beautiful location that overlooks the water. The perfect place to see the sunset. The building is beautiful and huge. Our waitress Lauren was really great and full marks to her. She had a lot of tables and still managed to check in on us often. However, they somehow lost our name and after 45 minutes of waiting, and checking in a few times about our wait time, we kept being told each time it would be another 20 minutes. Finally they realized they lost our name and we were seated right away. However, this wasn't without frustration. Then we were led up a spiral staircase which was a bit scary. I will take the lift next time. Then onto the food. They have a separate menu with the fish, drink and dessert specials. I thought the price of the fish dishes was pretty high and I was so disappointed that the carrot cake wasn't on the dessert menu since I read about it in some other reviews. In addition to a couple of drinks, orders at our table included: fish & chips, fried jumbo shrimp and the shrimp & grits without the chorizo. After a very long time, they brought out bread to the table but it wasn't warm. Then after an hour of waiting, our food arrived. The fish & chips were delicious with a very light breading. But the pickles were missing. The coleslaw was just okay. The jumbo shrimp came with 7 fried shrimp and fries. The shrimp was good but they wished it came with a veggie or something else more elevated besides fries and coleslaw. The shrimp & grits dish was not good. First off, it came out cold and I had to send it back. Well then it came back out, it was cold so I had to send it back for a second time. By the time I actually got a hot meal, everyone else in my party had already eaten. Lastly, who thought it was a good idea to put raw celery in this dish?! I think Gordon Ramsey would have taken this up with the head chef if he saw this! The other veggies in the dish were not cooked well and almost raw too. Plus the red sauce was just not good. This is by far the strangest dish I have tasted and nowhere near any shrimp & grits I've ever had. Our waitress did take something off the bill for the cold shrimp & grits but at that point, we were all just annoyed at the whole experience. The blackened tuna was fresh, delicious, and cooked perfectly. The seafood gumbo was just too salty-it could have been an accident, because the other dishes were not overly salted at all. The scallops in the gumbo were so salty, it was borderline inedible. The drinks were good, and the wine list had a decent selection. Appetizers were delicious and came out quickly, which was nice. The service here is spotty and disorganized. We were driving down Lighthouse Road and I saw the restaurant, so I called to see if there would be a long wait for walk-ins. I was told it could be up to an hour if we walked in right then. It was early, so we turned into the parking lot anyway. We were seated immediately-no wait. When we were seated, food was brought to our table twice...but we didn't order it. When our food arrived, the staff didn't know which dishes they were bringing out and asked everyone what they ordered and then tried to figure out which dishes they were holding...it was all very confusing and disorganized.
