Although it's casual, I must say that the details make it a tad more upscale. Had the seafood ceviche over island avocado which was all local and tasted like it. The spicy calamari needed a lil more flavor but the breading used was pretty great. Had the local crab entree and fried whole snapper as our main. Delicious! It was in the middle of the buzz of the city and the food was prepared perfectly. Our server was up beat and the drinks were good too. The pricing is just right, especially for what you're getting. We were going to pass this place by but decided to stop in, great decision. The food was delicious and the service was great. Alex informed us about the menu and what he believed were good choices. The octopus here is AMAZING, the best we've had. Alex indicated that they worked several years (three actually) to perfect the recipe, and perfect it is! We ate the octopus before we could take pictures lol. I had the paella which was good, the others had red snapper I believe (a picture will be posted) and only left the bones lol that's what I call a ringing endorsement and skirt steak with beans which they absolutely loved. We inquired how the beans were and Alex said like Grandma's, he didn't lie they were delicious. There was a young man there I think his name was Juan (not sure about that though) who paid close attention to detail which I love. He made sure there was not one spot on the glasses and that the tables were just so. I appreciate detail. We planned on going back before we left but ran out of time. BEST PUERTO RICAN FOOD EVER! I might as well move there at this point! I have fallen in love with Puerto Rican cuisine and their love for plantains. This restaurant blew expectations out of the water. I went to Waiter's next store and loved the Mofongo, I didn't think it could get any better till I came here. It is in a lively area and they have a great staff that helped a lot of with recommendations. We order the sesame crusted tuna, fried head-to-tail snapper, and mixed seafood mofongo! My favorite part was the coconut mojito(I had 3) my new favorite drink, milky and sweet and the perfect amount of rum. Everything we tried was delicious but my favorite had to be the tuna paired with their asian dressing and plantains on the side. To top it off for the birthday girl, FREE dessert! The place is very nice inside. The wines were limited by the glass so we had a bottle of Sterling Cabernet. It was delicious. The sausage with chimichurri was excellent. Crab cakes had a good taste, but no lump crab here, stringy pieces and lots of filler. The entrees were awful. The fried shrimp was way over cooked. The paella was a joke. They took precooked rice and put it on a plate, then set over cooked, dry, hard seafood on top. The seafood was inedible. It was not cooked together as a paella - no broth or stock, no saffron, no garlic, no flavor. The whole thing was cold. They must have had the rice and seafood sitting in the kitchen, then spooned it on the plate. I went across the street to get chicken wings at Tacos and Tequila because I was so hungry from not being able to eat my meal. I gave it 2 stars for the ambience, service, and sausage. read more

A great little gem tucked right by the Vanderbilt! As said in the previous reviews, the person handing out the "free drink" fliers made me a little bit skeptical but I'm so glad we stopped in! Unfortunately we found this place on our last night in San Juan otherwise we would be here every night. I ordered the Mahi mahi filet, and my boyfriend the grouper filet. Both were delicious. The grouper was a little heavy on the lime but other than that it was awesome. Everything came out super hot & everything was fresh. When we came in there was only one server for the place and the bartender, Alex. Even with just the two and a full house they managed to be very quick and attentive. This place has become know for having someone outside handing out coupons that they will somewhat honor. The food is very good and the staff is friendly, but food can be slow coming from the kitchen. My problem was the coupon. They gave me a free drink with my entree, fair enough, but the also said I could get 2 for 1 oysters. I ordered a half dozen and then got the check and was charged full price. The waitress then tells me it is only if you order a dozen, even though the coupon nor the menu state that and neither did she when I ordered. As the note stated, that came out of your tip. Don't argue with the customer and especially when they are business people on expense accounts. Now no one from my company will go to a place were they could be lied too. Walking down Ashford Ave - came across this restaurant - checked out the menu and looked like a number of good options from Tapas starters to salads and great selection of seafood and steaks. Familly run business with very attentive service - and delivery of our meals, drinks was perfect. Started off with the Cod balls Tapas and the Sausage Tapas - followed that up with the Halibut which was cooked to perfection laying on a bead of delicious mashed potatoes. My guests had the red snapper which came grilled - the entire fish on the plate - was also very tasty. Pricing ranged from $8 to $15 for each Tapas, Salads where $10, and mains ranged from $24 to $45 - $45 being the Caribbean Lobster - but average was about $33. The host was gruff, we were seated in the corner of the restaurant near the restroom even though other tables were available. The walls were dirty and the paint was peeling from them. The waiter did not know what was or wasn't available. The appetizers were over cooked, my husband ordered his steak medium, it was served medium-well. Tips are earned, (the food wasn't good and the service was poor), the waiter actually had the audacity to question the tip and then actually commenced to tell the other staff about his low tip. The entire time the two waiters were walking around tending to literally every other table besides us. It really seemed like they were trying to avoid us. After ordering our food, it didn't come out for a good 40 min. Bad...bad...bad... New to PR and wanted authentic food. Was ushered in by a promoter outside. The restaurant was 2/3 full and most guests were enjoying drinks. We were shown to a back area by the restrooms to accommodate our party of five. The promoter realized it was right under an A/C duct and did offer a shawl to my daughter. His attention and the kindness of one waiter (more on this later) are the reasons for any stars. We ordered a variety of things and expected to wait at least 35 minutes as one dish was a speciality. The actual wait was an hour and a half! At one point, my daughter became so hungry and tired she began to cry. A different waiter was asked if there was a problem with the order and he was kind enough to bring out some rice. Our waiter had disappeared and was not seen again.
