Context: Weekly Drinks Time of Visit: Thursdays, 9:30PM Even though I have it less frequently, Cazuela's is still a personal favorite of mine. However, just because I love it, doesn't make it automatically worthy of a good review. First note goes without saying: it is a college establishment. I occasionally see non-college-age individuals there, but they would definitely be in the minority. The decor is a little strange, but the atmosphere is very casual. There is very little seating inside, so expect a wait in the winter months. The patio outside is pretty large and is an excellent place to dine. Meals are about $8-$10, but from 2-6PM and 10-11PM M-F, they have margarita specials and half-price apps. Chicken Nachos end up being like $4.00, which is pretty good. The margaritas are probably full of well liquor and an ungodly amount of sugar, but I always get them (tip: raspberry and mango strawberry are very good). Service is inconsistent: it depends on the server. They can either be really good (fill your water, bring you lots of chips, etc.) or absolutely atrocious (barely acknowledge your existence). This review can't accurately reflect why I was a frequent customer of Cauela's: you really just have to go and try it for yourself. read more

My brothers and I are regulars here on Thursday nights and love it. We have our own Cazuelas margarita cups and refill are only 8 bucks! The food is really good and the waiters are great. Benjamin is especially great. read more

This place has a great happy hour, with half price apps. I went here for lunch today, food was sooo good! Patio is relaxing, since the weather has been nice it was a treat to sit outside the first time I went. Chile rieno (sp?) and the queso dip is def. delicious. Will definitely come back. read more

I love Mexican food and as an OSU alumni, I enjoy trying the many restaurants on campus. I was disappointed when looking at the menu that there were salsa stains caked between the pages. I ordered a burrito & chimichaunga that came with rice and beans, (part of the pick 2 create your own dinner). I was extremely disappointed when I received refried beans that were runny and cold. The chips, (yes I know they are free) were crumbled as if they came from the bottom of a bag. Also, for a restaurant that makes most of their money off alcohol sales, there was no bar. The happy hour drink specials are pretty good, but I was disappointed with my experience when I came here at 4pm because the service was not the best either. I will continue to go to El Vaquero when I'm in the Columbus area. read more

I come here with friends, friends of friends, girlfriends and their friends. I love the Margarita here and the outdoor patio in the summer. The staff is Authentic, the atmosphere is nice, and the food is always excellent. Been here many times while a student at OSU. & never been disappointed. P.S. I don't even leave reviews, but this experience TERRIBLE. I just moved here was trying a new place I ordered food yesterday for my husband. When I arrived to pick up my food . I stated I just moved here it was my first time trying there food. As I paid for me . Two woman proceeded to step into my conversation and tell the host that they wanted to pay for they're drinks and not there entree because the food was nasty and they didn't like it. The host was so rude and just told them to leave and they left . So as he brings me my food he opens it for me and I realized they put CUCUMBERS ON MY ORDER OF THE NACHOS SUPREME. And no cucumbers on my house salad. He said the nachos come with cucumbers so I looked at the menu and read him back what comes on there nachos NO CUCUMBERS WAS STATED. And so he rudely throws away the food. And they remade my food . I proceeded home and my husband and sister was wasn't satisfied. I tried to dress up the nachos a little better but my husband and sister just wasn't satisfied. So I returned the food but after I realized they were closed but the host who served we was still there . He opened the door and I simple explained my family just didn't like the food that's why I'm bringing it back . He proceeded to argue with me about why the food was nasty . I'm just saying I didn't eat it my family didn't like it . And he just argued with me saying " you can't ordered food and say you didn't like it and wanna return it " I continued to tell him " the customer is always right " and I brought it back to you they barely even touched it . That shows you they didn't even fully eat it . He states I won't be here tomorrow but they can fix it . read more

Went there on a somewhat busy weeknight and was impressed by the service and surprisingly fine with the food. I had spinach and mushroom enchiladas and they were crammed with vegetables and swimming in just enough delicious cheese. It wasn't knock your socks off amazing, but it was good, arrived about six minutes after I ordered it, and went well with the delicious margaritas. Bottom line: if you live or work near here and you're craving some Mexican food and you're not too particular about whether it's authentic, you don't need to drive anywhere to find. read more

Food is incredibly good, authentic and value for money. To boost it all its open very late. What brings down the rating is the terrible interior (which is still acceptable due to the economic value for the food) and lack of hygiene (unacceptable). There was filth on the floor along with lots of wasted food and nobody even bothered cleaning it. read more

This used to be a semi-decent little Mexican restaurant a few years back; but recently it's become more of an over priced, mediocre attempt at an Americanized Mexican restaurant. The prices have increased, while at the same time the quality of the food has only decreased. I ordered their nachos Mexicanos for the third time in the past couple of months, with the hope it would resemble a previous time in the restaurants history. But, this was all false hope and nostalgia. My nachos had, without exaggeration, about a tablespoon of cheese on the entire order. Even better, my previous order had none, bone dry. I'm sorry my once beloved little Mexican restaurant, but you are now just another in the sea of thousands of holes in the wall falling short in attempting to be the diamond in the rough. read more

We needed to eat and Mexican is always on the menu. This place is in the university district, so we weren't quite sure what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised. The salsa was good and Queso Fundido was better! The chorizo was a nice addition to the cheese. My partner had the "make your own quesadilla" with veggies and steak strips. Very tasty. I have a long and storied relationship with Cazuelas. It started as my favorite restaurant when it first opened. It has now declined into a two-star joint. What I liked about the place was that it was pretty good Mexican food for a low price. Their lunch special was phenomenal: 5 bucks for a lunch which included a soft drink. And the choice of lunches was large. Now no such deal exists. There are 5 dollar lunches but the choices have been significantly reduced. And that drink is going to tack on another couple bucks to your receipt. I used to go to Cazuelas at least once a week for lunch. Now I go maybe twice a year. I believe the quality of food has also declined. The rice I got last time was icky like it had been cooked the day before. Chips and salsa are free but very average. One aspect that has always plagued Cazuelas is the speed of service - especially in getting your check. I have waited more than a half hour to get my check, pay it, and leave. When I reminisce on Cazuelas, I can only think about what could've been if they had not deteriorated as they have. A sad, sad story. read more

Recommended dessert following dinner at Cazuela's: Pepto Bismol. Or, a good long puke. Vegetarians: don't. Just don't. I should preface this review by assuring you that I am not a picky customer. I've worked in food service for a long time, and I can confidently say that I am an understanding and gracious customer. I don't hold unrealistic expectations of campus-area dive-restaurants, and I don't make a habit of gratuitously negative reviews. Here's the skinny of my experience-- 1. Starter: Chips, salsa, and cheese dip. Now, I use the term "salsa" loosely, here. The red sauce plunked on my table was something more akin to bland canned pizza sauce. 2. Drinks: We ordered a pitcher of margarita. Now, again, I use the term loosely. Our margarita was clearly a pre-mixed convenience store blend of artificial flavors and diluted tequila. It was filmy, had specks of something floating in it, and was served cheerfully in scratched and cloudy plastic cups adored with greasy smears. Salt? No. Lime? No. We couldn't even finish the pitcher. 3. Entrees: The grilled chicken was so dry, it was visibly fibrous. While my friend gave it a fair shot (as one does at a dive), after a few minutes of awkward cutting, tearing and gnawing, it was became clear that this particular piece of chicken had been sunning itself under a heat lamp for a long, long time (and perhaps had never actually seen a grill at all.) My meal, however, did include a chunk of juicy steak! Unfortunately, I had ordered a vegetarian dish (vegetarian fajitas) from the "vegetarian" section of the menu. This tells me that: #1 Cazuela's has some very serious cross-contamination issues in the kitchen, and #2 Cazuela's does not know what vegetarian means or particularly care. 4. "Uh, so I just found a big hunk o' steak in my vegetarian fajitas": So, I have worked in food service for years; I get it. Sometimes mistakes happen. What did my server and her manager do to make it better? Offer dessert and hastily ask if we wanted one check or two. When she returned with the check, she informed me her manager had taken 25% off! 25% off of the bill? No. 25% off of the vegetarian dish they served with meat and I did not finish. No apology, and the manager did not show his face. Yup, $3 off of a meal in which meat was served to a vegetarian. 5. Never going back, and encouraging everyone else to do the same. read more

BEWARE OF FOOD POISONING If want a decent and affordable Margarita, this is the place. But I will NEVER order any food that has ANY kind of meat in it from here. I've tried the food twice at this place. Good chips and salsa, the food taste okay, but both times both friends and my boyfriend and I have gotten violently good poisoned. I frequent cazuela's, even though they are a bit pricey. However, after my experience Monday I don't think I'll ever go again. Myself and 7 other people arrived at 8 pm, a full 2 hours before the 10pm closing time. The waitress came over and took our drink orders, 7 margaritas. The frozen machine was broken. Disappointing, but not a deal breaker. She brought the drinks. She comes back 5 minutes later, and one of the guys says he'll be needing another one soon. She says she'll bring 7. Multiple people say they do NOT want another. She brought 7 anyways. She comes back another 5 minutes later. It's 8:15, we have been there 15 minutes. She asks if we want another drink. The answer is no (we have been ther 15 minutes, who wants 3 drinks that fast!?!?), but more chips would be nice. She says she can't because we didn't spend enough. We spent $28 in drinks (that most of us didn't want). Ask how much more we needed to spend to split a basket of chips between 7. She had no answer, but told us if we weren't ordering more, she would close us out. She brought the bills at 8:20. We asked to speaker to a manager, she said no. TL; DR Brought and charged for drinks we didn't want, not given chips, couldn't speak to a manager, forced out in less than a half hour. read more

Cazuela's Grill is, by far, my favorite Mexican restaurant! Come for "happy hour" (2-6 PM) for half-price appetizers like guacamole, steak quesadilla, ceviche, and queso fundido.. All are excellent! The wait staff are friendly and the food is delivered fast. I really like this place. read more

This was the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. The place was packed, once we finally got a seat it took forever to place our order. The food came almost an hour later, was cold and very, very moist. The fish tacos were completely soaked through and dripping, the quesadillas were soaking wet. The only redeeming factors were the chips and salsa. Our waiter seemed to have no idea what was going on. The experience was so bad that we ended up driving three hours back home to make Ramen noodles, which was so much more delicious than this food. Definitely not worth going unless you want to spend the rest of your day miserable. It's been 16 hours and I'm still thinking about how awful this experience was. Best frozen margs in columbus! My FAVORITE place ever! It's a couple blocks from my house.. my friends and I love going there after class in the evening during happy hour. Half off appetizers and half off margs. Free chips and salsa. I always get a steak quesadilla and a frozen strawberry marg or sometimes we get a pitcher. They are both to die for. Its never too loud or anything.. great for good conversation. We always sit outside on the patio for at least 2 hours, get drunk and have a blast! read more

If I can could give them no stars I would. 1st we got set in the back of the restaurant and got forgotten about took are server and 10 minutes to get us some water and mind you the restaurant was not busy. 2 the server where so unprofessional they were eating and drinking while getting other customers food orders together. The guy handling are food order went out to have a smoke break right at the exit door and he return from that smoke break he didn't was his hands and being putting people food on the trays as all this is going on are serve is no were to be found about 15 minutes later she had to be asked to refill are drinks. I have eaten here a handful of times for lunch. It was ok. Today was a beautiful sunny day, so we strolled down the street to find a patio. We stopped at Cazuela's. The food was mediocre at best. The music was loud (and sucked) The Margaritas had no alcohol. In fact the pitcher had a perfumey rosey smell to it. And it was served in plastic cups. The service was terrible. Management was weak. This is the first time in my life I did not tip. It was that bad. Unless you are a deaf 20 year old with no id and undeveloped taste buds, AVOID. read more

As authentic as it gets. This restaurant is very close to OSU Columbus campus and it has a lot of options for lunch. We had a beef fajitas and flautas(1 per person) and it was both good. Cazuela's was better when it first opened. Now it's taken a turn for the worst. I sat at my table for a good 10-15 min before the waiter even took my order. What made it worse was that he said, "Ok, do you want something?" The service here is ungodly slow. The food is mediocre at best but cheap. This is by far the best Mexican food I've ever had. I've only had their take out I've never ate inside but food wise this is the best. It's authentic and the fajitas are cooked with so much flavor it amazes me every time I get them, their cooked with so many vegetables and both the steak and chicken are amazing!!! Had a mix up on how much the margaritas were.. it turns out only the lime flavored ones are discounted so our bill was more than expected. Will know better next time. Damn this grill has to be the best Mexican food i have ever had. The food is awesome, i had the create your own burrito and i was shocked how big it was for the price, i couldn't even finish it all, maybe due to all the margaritas i was drinking which by the way are the best...i keep coming back and try every flavor you have. The prices here you can't beat. The best thing i like about it is the location. the patio is the best spot to come and hang out with friends and meet lots of people. The waiters here are on top of their game...not to mention good-looking. i like how the patio is set up it's in such a nice cool spot with shade and trees. For sure a nice hangout, get full and drink spot. me and my friends love coming here everyday. Today was our second time ordering and having it delivered to our work. This food is amazing, fresh and so many awesome flavors. We had a confusion with the delivery service we used but the restaurant made it right. They called and the restaurant personally delivered the food that the service missed. I lived (essentially) across the street for 3 years and never ate here because the food is typical mexican american Sysco truck hot turbo garbage. The patio with gaggles of college girls lured in by cheap margaritas is the only thing this place has going for it. read more
