This place is adorable to bring your little kids. They have an outside playground that you can have your kids on. They have dozens of picnic tables that you can have a snack on, and for only four bucks for a ten minute train, maybe fifteen minute train ride, it is a steal. I love the fact that they're trained their playground and their picnic tables are all on their trees. So you're not in the sun at all during the summer, when you come out next to a park that has soccer about basketballs, tennis goals.All kinds of stuff to do around you. Cute little train for a few bucks a person. Credit cards accepted. Trains depart at :15 and :45 each hour. Get there a bit early to buy a ticket and snag your seat. After you're done, there is a playground for the kids and a nice "western town" area for photos. There are more attractions like a little train for kids but it was shut down so I don't know if they're working on it or what. Don't get your expectations up for the sights on the train ride - it's not much. A soccer field and then it's just dry brush / trees. One of the most disappointing elements was that there was no info given on the ride (saw speakers so the conductor could have talked). According to their website, the train takes you through the hideout of Sam Bass (outlaw that died in Round Rock) so that would have been cool to hear about. We have been here a few times for birthday parties and it is always so much fun! Not only do they have a spacious area to gather, but various areas to entertain the kiddos while waiting for the official train ride. They have the play town area, the playground (which seems to always be under construction), and the giant wooden train with the super popular excavator. The big yellow Cedar Rock Railroad train ($3.75 per rider over 1 yo) is such a great ride as you get to go throughout the park and through a bit of the residential area. I love how everyone is always so friendly to wave. The train itself is a bit rusty and could use a fresh layer of paint but the ride is still an enjoyable 15 minute long ride which seems to be a perfect duration. Depending on the season, there is a small tunnel that is decorated, for example during Halloween time it was nice and spooky with cobwebs and spiders etc... If you have kids 3 yo and older, I strongly suggest the little locomotive chase ($3.50 per rider over 3 yo). It is so fun to see the kids using their arms to pedal their own locomotives. It's very rare that you get shaded parks in this part of Texas , went there seeing the pics and it didn't disappoint! The ticket is less than $3 per person (kids under age 1 ride free), for the train ride which happens at 15th and 45th minute of every hour (most days )! As you wait for the ride to begin there is a nice music playing on speakers , picnic tables to hangout with snacks , there's a small park ,a toy train as well as a mini excavator for kids to play. There's kids merchandise to purchase (T-shirt and train whistle) which we bought to show our appreciation to the owners for the thoughtful concept! This has always been one of my places to take my kiddos. We were so excited to see that it was open again after reconstruction. Sadly it was not the same and my kids found it not as fun as it once was. Usually the ride is narrated and calls out some of the things you see along the way. I noticed speakers but nothing was playing. They also completely redid the train route. We used to love waving to the cricket players. The ride is just dull and goes through the woods with a view of the parking lot. We were hoping the tunnel would save it but it didn't. No lights on in the tunnel, no fake spiders, just outside light peering in. Sad to say this is no longer our favorite place. I hope the owners can restore some of its magic because it's no more than a mall train ride minus the ac. read more

It's always fun to get on the train ride. I have been here several times in the past, it's never boring. Good news they are going to replace an old train with a comfortable newer model. They are going to close this place for next 3 months so people can enjoy new train in 2024. Fun little train ride in the middle of a large park. I love that this is a thing honestly. It's easy, it's fun, it's cheap, and it's relaxing. The little play area around the train itself could use some work and I would like to see more things added but the main attraction here is definitely the train. You hope on board a train for about $3 per person and take a 2 mile or so route through Williamson County Regional Park. You get the chance to see some wildlife as well as just the beauty of the park. The ride takes about 10-15 minutes if I remember correctly and honestly I kind of wanted to do it again afterwards, especially since the weather was nice. I've wanted to bring my kids out to try this train ride for a while and it didn't disappoint. The train is $3 per rider (8/2022) and they have a small concession stand, but I didn't get anything, nor look closely at the offerings. The train depot is in a shaded area, which is nice to help with the Texas summer heat, and there is a small townscape and a wooden train the kids can explore while waiting for the train to arrive. I really liked the Johnny Cash music that was playing. The train ride itself was fun and took about 15 minutes, so a fair length. Note that the speaker on the train was too quiet to really hear, but I think it was supposed to sort of guide the ride. Also, the train itself would benefit from a sand blast and a fresh coat of paint as it was rusty. Overall, I would recommend it and you can make a day out it by enjoying the park too. read more

My family and I visited this park solely to ride the train and it was worth the trip! Train rides are $3 per person-- they accept cards and also offer snacks and drinks for purchase. The train station is in a shady area of the park, so that made for a comfortable wait. There's also a miniature town display, and a train engine, boxcar and caboose playscape to entertain the kids while they wait. The train ride goes throughout the park and community and is long enough to enjoy and short enough for antsy kiddos. The train could use a new paint job and the route could have been more scenic, but there was a pond and a tunnel-- so that was fun to see. Definitely check this place out! read more

Very cute! The train ride itself was fun, if a bit squeaky. My daughter (5) really enjoyed the little Locomotive Chase cars, and we had fun playing make-believe in Old Pflooterville. Yesterday was the first time coming to this attraction and I will say I was highly impressed. The ride is very relaxing and has some nice scenery while riding. Also the conductor was very kind and professional. I think the biggest thing I enjoyed about this experience is seeing the smile on the face of my 2 year old as he was enjoying the ride on a cool train. Just some good 'ol fashioned fun here! My wife and I took our 2 year old son here, and he absolutely loved it. Still talks about the train to this day! It's a nice little 15 minute train ride around part of the park, and it's great for a little afternoon getaway out of the house. Tickets are cheap, the conductor was as nice as he could be, and they've even got a little playground area for the kiddos to climb around on. Definitely worth a visit! Cedar Rock Railroad is a family-friendly concession inside the Southwest Williamson County Regional Park. They offer a narrow-gauge railroad that gives a great narrated scenic overview of the park and associated amenities that can be interesting for all ages.. There's also a nifty little hand-propelled "Train Chase" attraction for little kids. Additionally, there's a small playground with a train-themed activity area and picnic tables. The grounds and facilities are well-kept. A small concession stand offers snacks. I didn't recall seeing any drinks, so remember to bring those with you. You can buy tickets to ride the two attractions either a la carte, or as part of a package that includes reservations for parties. The biggest disadvantage is that there are no nearby restrooms. The closest restroom involves a 10 minute hike to one of the pavilions near the soccer fields. If you're just here for a train ride and done, you can hold it. But if you're here for a two-hour birthday party, that's asking a bit much, especially with toddlers. Adults might want to consider a trip in the woods for relief. It would also be nice to be able to wash hands after changing diapers before handling food. Another concern I had was the exposure of the play areas to the narrow-gauge train. While the station itself is well-fenced, children may be tempted to run after the train as it leaves the station, which happened more than once while I was there. While parental supervision is important, little ones can often outthink you. I found myself as a single adult trying to stop others' children from danger. You can check my posted video (available only on mobile as of this writing) to see just how quickly this can happen. This seems like a liability that should be addressed before someone gets injured or maimed. I appreciate the patience of the staff with the little ones' exuberance for all things train. However, at one point--again due to insufficient fencing--some of the little ones went around to sit on the train chase ride cars. Let's just say the head choo-choo got a little vocal and scoldy, almost taking on a law enforcement tone. The little ones didn't see what they were doing as wrong, since they were here to have fun and the toys were out. Again, the parents probably facilitated the kiddos' "offenses" a bit as well. But staff should realize the limitations of their setup and be more understanding in such circumstances. If you don't want to run a full-length fence, you should expect things like this will happen from time to time. Either put up the toys after each use, or be chill when the kids take advantage of them. All-in-all, it's a great time for kids and parents alike. Go here, by all means, and enjoy. Just be prepared with supplies and for the gotchas that come with this simple limited amenity attraction. It ain't Disney, it ain't Six Flags. But it's still good, clean fun. This is a must do for families in the area! It is so adorable! Here's the scoop: -The Cedar Rock Railroad if a fun place. They have a little railroad town to play in. It is ok to run around and play before and after your train ride. There's even plenty of picnic tables to camp out at for an al fresco lunch that you brought along. -The engine is a really nice looking miniature replica of an old fashioned steam engine. I'm not a train nut, but my father in law is. He was in love with the engine. I think he took 2 dozen pictures! -The train ride itself is 1.5 miles long. It winds along a path through the Williamson County Park, so it is a pretty ride. It lasts about 15-20 minutes. It is only $2.50 a person as well. It is a really nice ride and worth $2.50 any day. -There's a small snack concession shop at the depot. The snacks are cheap and affordable. No meal food, just snacks though, so don't go planning on buying lunch. -They are currently open year round. They do have a website though that updates their current schedule. I recommend you check it before you drive out there, just to be safe. Easy parking, tons of shade on a train themed playground, lots of picnic tables and a covered 15 minute train ride. There is even a real conductor who punches the tickets! Note: It is a pretty small operation so the conductor works at the ticket counter as well. When he is out on a ride, just hang around the playground until he gets back and then you can buy your ticket! The train ride has a fun narration to it.
