Truly excellent restaurant. I am not typically a fan of "hotel restaurants" but Cedar + Stone is a true restaurant that happens to be in a hotel (and the Mall of America). The food was first rate, including halibut, short ribs, Brussels sprouts, soup and the Gouda Mac and cheese. Well prepared and presented and yet surprisingly reasonable. I was exhausted after flying from SF to train a newly hired team in Minnesota at the Mall of America in the middle of the holiday shopping season. This seemed to be a nice place to have dinner and relax before I called my Uber to bring me to my hotel. The wild rice soup was delicious. I got the braised short ribs and they were a bit on the dry side. I ordered a glass of sauv blanc and the server admitted that it was not chilled so she also brought me some ice cubes if I wanted to drop those in there. Hmmm. I think to try to remedy some of these issues the manager came by just to chat. I didn't complain about any of the food, but it was nice just to vent how long my day had been. He was nice and sent a creme brûlée dessert over to my table. That's what almost gave them a 3-star review. My biggest issue with my experience is - like a dummy - I forgot my receipt at the table, but I needed it to expense this $50 meal + tip and I really wanted to expense it. I called the restaurant as soon as I left and the manager said he would email it to me. I even offered to come back the next day and pick it up. He called me back two times around 11pm to continue to get more information from me - the cost of the meal, what time I was there, where I was seated, last 4 digits of my credit card number, what kind of credit card I used, etc. No email ever came. I called back the next day and they would not even get me in touch with a manager. Needless to say, when I come back to to MOA for another training trip, I will absolutely NOT come back here. BTW- the booths in the bar are incredibly uncomfortable. read more

Terrific food, terrific staff, horrific price. The 12-hour braised spare ribs were fantastic, but the highlights were the roasted vegetables and crispy brussel sprouts ... these are true works of art! The staff is very friendly, helpful, have great menu suggestions, and very are sensitive to how much, and when, conversation is wanted. Compared against hotel restaurants of a JW Marriott hotel tier, it's merely okay (2-star): the food is okay to good (the drinks are better), the service ranges from good to abysmal for this kind of hotel. The extra star comes from how mediocre the offerings are in Mall of America--the only other restaurants of note are Masu (which is inferior to the downtown original in every way) and Firelake in the Radisson Blu hotel (better than it's downtown counterpart, but not great)--Crave is just as meh as the rest of them (style over substance). Over my visits to Cedar + Stone, the experience has continued to gradually decline. Maybe the MOA clientele just won't support a good restaurant? Honestly, I wanted to like this one more but the sheer decline in service at the host desk (pushing me to the bar at lunch when the dining room is open?) to table service that feels like a chain restaurant, I've opened up my options. Had an extremely poor first impression! It took more than 10 minutes before anyone even greeted us or got us water, and there were only four tables in the entire bar area! Also, the atmosphere was extremely boring and loud. I would go to Fire Lake at Radisson Blu a million times over before giving them another chance. read more

I've come to some sort of a conclusion on Yelp restaurant reviews. There are going to be mixed reviews for almost every restaurant. Staff and management are under constant change behind the scenes of the brand. I looked at a few reviews for this place prior to posting and was surprised at all the positive responses. Should I really be all that surprised though? No. I have seen the opposite where other restaurants in the twin cities get mixed to poor reviews and I have had numerous positive experiences. Our assessment of this restaurant on one particularly evening. Food was far over cooked. Ordered medium rare and got between a medium well and well done piece of leather. This stuff happens and isn't the end of the world. The service was very poor. Very unusual questions and conversation. This was two of their servers very first job waiting tables and it was as if they hadn't been shown a thing. I wondered if they were really even servers. Took around 45 minutes to get our food and we saw the waiter twice during that time. We were there on a Saturday night at around 7:30-9:30. We ate here for dinner, breakfast, and dessert. All were very good. The fresh catch and the crème brûlée are hands down the best. The crème brûlée is the best we have ever had. We had lunch on a Friday early afternoon. There was no host stationed at the desk, we had to wait for someone to appear. Then upon seating us he said the waiter would be right with us. Several minutes later the waiter showed up and brought menus. The service was slow to take our order, and after we did not order booze for lunch, the service became apparition-like. We sat for several minutes waiting for our lunch. The waiter said he'd be right back,' but his 'right back' meant that the floor manager had to bring us more water. We had the grilled garlic chicken panini, which was mediocre, they put too much aioli on the sandwich, as opposed to serving it on the side. I ordered the braised beef, but they did not braise anything, it tasted boiled and flavorless to me. The floor manager had to bring our food out because the waiter was more concerned about entertaining a group of young women for several minutes at once on the other side of the room. I ordered the gouda mac and cheese instead of fries and the manager served me fries, and not mac and cheese, I had to remind him of what I ordered. He returned with a side cast iron dish full of mac and cheese soup. It was very watery and had a few noodles floating in it. Instead of 'mac and cheese,' Cedar Stone, Urban Table served me a water and cheese sauce with macaroni. I beg future would be patrons to spend your money on a decent meal in one of the food courts. This restaurant needs a wait staff trained to wait, a chef and kitchen staff better trained to cook, and there were no 'farm to table' ingredients to be had. Nice concept, poor execution. read more

I've been fortunate to eat at restaurants all over but rarely have I seen the service and attentiveness we received tonight at cedar+stone. It was our first time staying at the JW Marriott Mall of America, and we hadn't considered the restaurant in the hotel as an option. But hearing that it was the top rated restaurant in the MoA we decided to try it for our final night. I've never seen salmon offered on the kids menu ($8), and both our kids loved it. My oldest is special needs, and without asking, they intuitively brought him a plastic child's cup for water. Chad's recommendations on drinks and entrees were spot on. When my wife was torn on which Chardonnay, he brought a sampler of both so she could decide. I highly recommend this restaurant, not only for the quality of food and wine, but for the way they treat each guest. read more

We went to eat here for our anniversary dinner and had Dana as a server...we were both blown away by not only the server but the food as well! Our server was very friendly, polite and gave detailed recommendations as far as excellent food to order! My husband ordered the filet and I had the mushroom risotto adding shrimp, sharing baked Mac and cheese w. Lobster and dessert was a baked yogurt all incredible, local and extremely well prepared!! Went to dinner with 3 other friends and we were not impressed at all! Salmon was dry and over cooked. Risotto was terrible, no flavor at all.....added shrimp to risotto and you could barley see the tiny shrimp! Wait staff were in another world, had no idea we were upset. I don't generally put much stock in the "farm to table" movement, especially in large cities, but I am a big supporter of local businesses especially if they support other local businesses without a big frozen food delivery truck out back...so, after a really enjoyable day at the Mall of America, we were excited to stop here for supper. We were famished and left very satisfied. Our server, Tamiya, was awesome and made great suggestions and was very attentive. Luckily, they weren't that busy, so we even had some time to chat during our visit. She was knowledgeable of the menu items and very quickly found answers to the couple of items she wasn't familiar with. We had the spicy cheese curds (awesome) and the Haricots Verts (wow) for appetizers and we split the beet and arugula salad. Everything was fresh and well prepared. I had the scallops with Pork Belly which were perfect and my wife had the Jucy Lucy for her dinner...the meat was excellent and the tellagio cheese with potato rolls worked well in this dish. Once again, no room for dessert, but we did have lots of leftovers that kept well for lunch the next day! This place is fantastic! The drinks are quirky and perfectly made. I tried their drink of the week which had a ginger liqueur and gin. Then I had a drink with vodka and cayenne pepper that was fantastic. Thanks to our awesome, friendly server, my friends and I shared the cornbread appetizer, which was delicious. The maple buye butter was a nice touch. Although everything on the menu looked great, I wasn't super hungry (unfortunately) so I only ate a salad... But it was still great! I'm afraid I can't give a good review. I had a very poor experience at this very nicely decorated eatery. I had made reservations for my wife and I for Sunday 08/06/17 for a nice brunch before finishing up some shopping and heading home. We arrived a little early, but they weren't overly busy (maybe 1/3rd full?). We had to wait a few minutes for the hostess, as she was on the opposite end (hotel side) from us (mall side) and was busy with guests, though I think most of the wait staff saw us standing there and did nothing. One finally alerted the hostess, who rushed over and apologized. She (and I'm sorry, I can't remember her name) was excellent. She sat us, ensured that my reservation would be counted (OpenTable) and informed us that our waitress, Carrie I believe, would be with us in a few moments. About 5 minutes later, the same hostess (again, she was amazing) came back and got our drink orders (coffee for me, Bloody Mary for my wife). She brought the coffee right away, and a few minutes later came back with the Bloody Mary "drink cart". She made the drink, apologizing that the person who was normally doing that was unavailable. It was delicious, I will grant. She then again stated our waitress would be over momentarily. After about another 15 minutes, we had decided to leave. Other areas had people seated, ordered, and food on table and we still hadn't seen a waitstaff stop over. Not even the ones serving tables RIGHT IN FRONT OF US, they didn't say anything. Finally our assigned server came, and when I informed her that we would be leaving and requested our bill, she left again, came back and offered the drinks on the house. I declined, the coffee cup was empty and the Bloody mostly gone by that time. I paid my bill, left, and spoke with the manager briefly. He simply mumbled an apology. I know at least one other table that was there in our area left as well, due to no service. Mind you, we saw all the other servers multiple times in their respective areas, but our server was completely MIA for at least 30-35 minutes, with no explanation except "Sorry".
