Lindsey's right! It's a hidden gem in the old Napa Mill! I came here on valentine's day with a reservation. A kindly hostess informed us the table wasn't quite ready so we were escorted to the bar where we were BOUGHT an apology drink. We were barely having our first sip when our table was ready! so nice! The whole meal went just as swimmingly. Had the scallops, crab cakes, a great soup, and some seared ahi. yum! Came back a second time with friends and had a similar experience. First time in Napa, we had a hard time deciding on a restaurant given that we were only spending two nights there and wanted to try everything. We finally settled on Celadon given that it had been recommended by the Michelin Guide 2015. Reservations were easily made online and our table was ready for us upon arrival. Decor is a bit conflicting as on one side you have an rustic garden feel with plants and a central fire place (which might be a good idea on colder evenings but emanated way too much heat for the temperature of our evening) and on the other a more formal almost boring decor. We opted to sit near the indoor plants which provided intimacy for date night but also came with some unwanted fruit fries. The service was impeccable, our waiter was present promptly to answer all our questions but didn't come by too frequently to make any unwanted interruptions. Solid wine by the glass menu, highlighting the wines from the area. Good recommendations from the waiter as well. As appetizer we had the fried calamari which was sold to be the best fried calamari in Napa. It might have been the best fried calamari in Napa as we had nothing else to compare it too, but it was definitely not a noteworthy one. We've had much much better back home (for anyone ever visiting Montreal, go to Marvin's for the best fried calamari you'll ever have). For mains, we had the moroccan inspired braised lamb and the waygu sirloin served with onion rings. Both dishes were excellent. Very large and satisfying portions with excellent sauces to balance the meats. The lamb was fall off the bone juicy and the couscous was cooked perfectly and just a touch sweet from the raisins found inside. The beef was also very tender and addition of the onion rings gave the dish another complexity in texture. We opted to skip dessert as the mains were so filling that we didn't feel the need to indulge any further. Overall, quite impressed with our choice. Was it Michelin worthy? Probably not, but definitely good enough to return. read more

Went to Celadon this weekend for a birthday celebration. I had heard about Celadon and it was Supposedly one of the best restaurants in downtown Napa. We ordered four cocktails two of them were so so the other two were terrible. The crab cakes were good, the truffle fries were crispy And very tasteful. I ordered the Halibut and I was very disappointed. I was excited about ordering the Halibut because I thought maybe they sourced it from the Tamales Bay locally. The fish was overcooked and dry, I ate it with disgust. The puree that accompanied the fish was bland. The only reason I'm posting this is because two other people had the same experience in the reviews that I read. So don't order the Fish. Needless to say I won't be going back read more

I had to travel to Napa for work earlier this year, so this review is a little stale... unlike the food at Celadon. The restaurant is kind of tucked away, partially hidden from view in the Napa Valley Mill. The entrance is super cute... just walk down the little ivy-lined alley and viola! The interior at night is very ambiant and dimly lit, with cream and white linens and antique framed pictures and mirrors. We started off the meal with the house bread complete with seasoned oil and vinegar for dipping and a beautifully picked bottle of Cab Franc. I mean, when you're in Napa, wine should be part of at least 2 meals a day! For my entree, I had the ahi tuna seared rare and it was lightly crusted with sesame and spices. The fingerling potatoes were perfectly cooked and the seasonal mixed veggies were crisply blanched. Honestly, the tuna was some of the best I've ever had! The service was a little less than what I had expected but the restaurant was very clean and the food was amazing! I would visit Celadon again.. in a heartbeat. read more

I feel fortunate to have chosen Celadon for the rehearsal dinner with family and friends to celebrate my son's upcoming wedding in the Valley. Not having dined here before, I had validated Celadon as a great choice with a few a few respected Yelp Elite friends from the Bay Area. They were right on the mark...Celadon came through with a cool vibe, great service and fantastic food. Our group of 13 somehow managed to order every appetizer and every entree on the menu...and several desserts to cap off a memorable evening. We complimented the various dishes with a nice selection of local Napa red and white wines with the help of Manny, Celedon's very knowledgeable Sommelier. The highest marks for appetizers went to the Soy-Braised Crispy Pork Belly w/ Watermelon and the Flash Fried Calamari w/ a spicy chipotle chilli glaze. Both were outstanding. Their New England Clam Chowder also deserves mention as I believe it would compete with the best of them on the coast of Maine. For entrees, the Seared Day Boat Scallops, the Moroccan Inspired Braised Lamb Shank, the Akaushi Flat Iron Steak and the night's Pasta Special all got great reviews. For dessert, we especially enjoyed the Warm Apple Galette, the Vanilla Bean Creme Brûlée and the Lemon Meringue Pie. Great choice for our group dinner. read more

I like their patio seating, the rustic but yet, elegant, feel. But this is all there is about this place... The food was just ok...we shared a crab cake appetizer...the salad underneath the crab cake was salty, the crab cake was ok...being in SF, i expect a bit better....i've had better crab cake (with lumps of fresh crab meat) even at a brunch place in Houston...we then shared a lamb shank with cous cous. The lamb shank was...hmm..the meat was tender at best and isn't gamey, but it's not as favourful as i would expect. The cous cous was good, with the almonds and raisin with some kinda sauce that was on the lamb shank...but you could get this kinda cous cous everywhere... The chocolate gooey cake dessert...i wonder if they got the cake from a box, heat it up in a microwave, pour some chocolate sauce on top and berries for garnish...disappointing.... The service is definitely yet to be desired....maybe we didn't order any wine (after the whole day of wine tour and tasting, we think we needed a break), nor any fancy bottles of water, the server merely took our order (and since we weren't that hungry, we shared our food instead), and barely came back to see what else we may need. She was a lot friendlier and chattier with the tables next to us..they ordered not only bottles of water but also wine, etc....i guess i can see why we got poor service.... read more

Celadon was just OK, but not great. With so many incredible dining options in Napa, I think I'll pass this one up next time. The hubby & I dropped in here for lunch & I was impressed with the great selection of small plates & specials. Small plates are my fave, as I always want to try everything & hate committing to a single item. The small plate offerings at Celadon are scaled in size, but not price. My expectation is that I can get maybe 2 small plates instead of a lunch entree. But their "small plates" are $12 & $13... while their "big plates" are $12 & $13 - HUH? Anyway, we bit the bullet & paid a bunch of $$ for some unsatisfying dishes. - tomato soup: this was delish, with a little puff pasty on top. No need for more than a cup, as it was heavy. - crispy soy-braised pork belly with jicama slaw: I love Pork belly, but it needs to be crispy & the right texture. This was very fatty & not crispy. Hubby & I only ate 2 of the 4 pieces. - macadamia nut crusted goat cheese: I wish I had skipped this one. There was nothing special about it & there wasn't enough crouton. - sweet coconut fried prawns with mango: another disappointment here. The prawns were overcooked & very rubbery. The outside crust didn't taste like coconut at all. Again, we left shrimp uneaten. The service was very good & overall a nice experience. First of all, don't be fooled by my rating.. It is ENTIRELY based on the meal itself because I am a slave to my taste buds and it doesn't matter what else happens.. So let's first talk about the food. It's been a really long time since I have been completely satisfied with my entire meal anywhere. My boyfriend and I split up the baby spinach duck-confit truffle oil salad, the pork belly small plate and the Kobe beef steak special. I have to say that I am a sucker for anything with truffle oil, be it a bed of baby spinach or frozen broccoli, I WILL eat it... I'm only slightly biased then. The duck paired perfectly with the vinaigrette and that was enough to make me think carefully about my expectations from the other two courses. I decided not to raise them too much. Then came the beautifully caramelized pork belly resting on steamy baby Bok choy. The Pork belly was tender, slightly crispy on the outside and super yum. Bok choy was Bok choy. My favorite though was the Kobe steak that we ordered medium rare. The cut was beautiful and paired with cous-cous (god knows what they seasoned that with but it was the best cous-cous I've had anywhere). Meat, again, was cooked perfectly and the flavors just came together and apart and together again in my mouth.. and I never wanted it to end :( But end it did. And to make the pain more bearable we had to get dessert! ALSO AMAZING. We ordered the Gooey chocolate cake with berries and gelato.. truly gooey and the gelato was super fresh. Few hiccups that my mind opted to completely disregard.. The service was not up to par with the reputation (slow) and even though we made reservations for four.. the setting was for three and they took a curiously long amount of time realizing we had asked for another place setting.. so there was quite a bit of waiting involved. The restaurant itself is cozy and warm, the bar is in the back room and there is a cool looking fireplace in the front room that we didn't get to sit next to. Also, The entrance from the street to the restaurant is gorgeous and romantic. Drinks were A-ok, they were good but not mind blowing. In Napa for a weekend, we wanted to go to a place with great food and service but wouldn't mind the tots we had in-tow. Celadon was the perfect fit. Service was fantastic! Our server, Terrie, really took care of us. She was extremely attentive, engaging, and on top of everything we needed. Believe it or not, they have a great childrens' menu (see pics) plus crayons. Even though ours were the only littles on the lot, staff was wonderfully pleasant. The chef - who personally brought out our food - commented on how great our kids were and waiters who weren't even assigned to us stopped by to josh around with the kids. I couldn't believe that the sommelier had fun engaging with them too. The staff on a whole was incredibly genuine, friendly, and efficient - which made us (kids included) feel welcome and completely taken care of. Food was SUBLIME. We started with the soy-braised crispy pork belly with tatsol, daikon, yuzu-wasabi dressing and kecap manis...gone in 5 minutes. Ninja ordered the rib-eye special with chimichurri and fried kale and I had the the snapper special, served on a bed of sauteed garlic spinach, mashed potatoes, and a savory plum sauce. The rib-eye was 10oz of deliciousness, especially because of the garlicky chimichurri. The snapper was seared to crisp perfection down to the skin, seasoned just right. We ended with the caramelized banana crème brûlée, which was scrumptious. Needless to say, we licked our plates clean. It's rare to find a place that serves Top Chef-esque dishes without a turned up nose...ESPECIALLY when you have little ones. Celadon is one such place. Great selection of cocktails and wines. Tomato soup was good, cream based which is not my favorite, but puff pastry on top was delicious. Crab Cakes were done perfectly and delicious. Celadon was our pick for our second night dinner. We were seated right away in their main dining room. They also have indoor patio seating with nice lights and heating lamps. The service was good. I had a question about the sauce that the braised lamb was cooked in since i dont enjoy sweet food. The waiter promptly brought out a serving of the sauce without me even asking. I definitely appreciated that and enjoyed the sauce. We started out with the mussels which were very good. The mussels were very large and cooked well. The mussels were tender and the sauce was tasty. For our entrees, my bf had the filet mignon which was melt in your mouth delicious. My bf is a steak eater and ate steak almost every night we were there. He described celadon's steak as the best steak he had in napa. I also tried it and it was amazing. I had the Moroccan braised lamb which was cooked very well with the lamb falling off the bone. The sauce was tasty with a little kick. It came with a couscous which I did not really enjoy since i despise raisins. With our meal we had the Oberon Cabernet which complimented our meal well. Went here for a 75th birthday dinner and it was top notch! The setting is enhanced as the restaurant resides in a historic 1880s, hat factory in view of the serene Napa River. They have a semi-outdoor patio area that is heated by a round fireplace and patio heaters. The evening we went it was raining torrentially, and water cascading onto the fiberglass roof was thunderous. We were yelling to talk. Unique experience. The service was great; we ordered a bottle of Marlborough Sauvingon Blanc for 32 bucks and an appetizer of fried calamari. Five of us shared the calamari and it was off -the -hook....topped with slices of ginger with a sweeter Asian sauce to dip the unchewy squid pieces. The Polenta Tower was excellent. Layered with portabella mushrooms and onions, it was the vegetarian dish of the evening. My Lamb Shank was great, although I quickly tire of cous cous. Mussels were large, good. And dessert was a rich chocolate pate-like dish served with raspberry sauce and strawberries. Go to this place. I was recommended to this restaurant by two people in one week, not from Napa. One said that it was the best in the Valley. I don't have the authority to say that, but it's the best I've tasted so far! Love this place. Nice atmosphere, delicious food, great service. Came here for dinner with two friends from San Francisco. They had previously stayed in the hotel adjoined to the restaurant, but none of us had ever been here before. We were able to make a reservation on Open Table a couple hours in advance and the restaurant was ready for us when we walked in! The food was outstanding. Between the 3 of us, we tried a bit of everything: New England Clam Chowder, Bibb Lettuce Salad, Lamb Shank, Steak Special of the Day, and Mussels. All were well prepared and tasty, with some thoughtful and surprising ingredients that were unexpected but beautifully paired. The restaurant itself was beautiful and the seating was comfortable. They didn't pack a bajillion tables in to accommodate more people and while the restaurant was full for dinner, we still felt we had an intimate dining experience. Our server, Sean, was OUTSTANDING. He was funny, witty, and super knowledgable about the area. He was able to point us to some good spots to check out the following day, and he was super patient as we legitimately shut down the restaurant. I highly recommend a visit here! read more

Everything about this place was perfect for Valentine's Day. The entryway is extremely romantic, the food was absolutely delicious, and the service was excellent. We had the mushroom bisque with truffle oil and the butter lettuce salad as well as the dayboat scallops and the highly recommended Moroccan-style lamb shank. The bisque was amazing. The lamb shank was HUGE and so tender, you could have eaten it with a spoon. The salad was great and perfectly dressed and the scallops were cooked perfectly. The Chardonnay cream sauce was the perfect compliment. Sadly, we had zero room for dessert. The service was spot on. It's every well-dressed man's nightmare to sit down at a table and have the napkin shed all over his suit. Fortunately, one of the staff noticed this immediately and offered a dark napkin. That level of observation is fantastic. Despite my efforts, my gf saw the bill and we both agreed that it seemed extremely reasonable compared to what we've seen from other $$$ restaurants in this region. This was a a great dining experience from the start to the finish. Waiter was excellent. Wine list superb and corkage fee for a few bottles picked up during the day reasonable. Delish Polenta stack was as good looking as it was tasty. A serious vegetarian delight. Pork belly appetizer was melt in your mouth I'm looking for more. When looking for a restaurant to celebrate a birthday during a recent trip to Napa- many of my favs were suggested to me by friends, Auberge, and French Laundry were just two that rose to the top. But I guess it was a good thing that I couldn't get into either of those restaurants and turned to Celadon instead. Celadon was just a delight! We arrived on time for our reservation (remember to make a reservation or you might be disappointed- they were having to turn people away on the night we were there!) and were told it would be just a minute. So we stepped inside to the bar where a very friendly bartender mixed our drinks perfectly. And before we could even take our 3rd sip- our table outside on the patio was ready. And it was the perfect table. Perfect for two, intimately located near the greenery and out under the stars (the roof retracts) this was the perfect place for the perfect night. And I loved that there was no pretense here . . .even the other patrons were warm and welcoming! Our server, Diane, was the best! She knew her stuff and obviously loves what she does which is taking care of people. Her suggestions were a few of our favorites of the night. We started with the soup of the day which was a creamy squash. Delicious! We then split the crab cake which was unlike any crab cake I have had before. It came with tri colored shaved rainbow carrots and some type of a alioli sauce that was out of this world! Truth be told- I wish I had ordered my own and not shared this delight! And for our entree- we went with a special of day which was a 21 day dry aged steak that was absolute perfection (and there was a high bar for this Chicago gal who loves a good steak!) So tender and perfectly cooked-we gave some to the table next to us and they actually ended up changing their order! For dessert we had the bread pudding which was also wonderful, and I loved that they took the time to put a candle in it so that we could really celebrate this birthday with most of the restaurant joining to sing! And people at a nearby table even sent over some port and a house blend "sippin whiskey" for us to enjoy with our dessert. Like I said . . .everyone is friendly here! But the highlight of our evening was when Chef Cole stopped by our table. Personable and interesting he gave us the history of the restaurant and we also learned about the sister restaurant which is Coles Chop House. He obviously loves what he does and it shows! His food is terrific- his employees dedicated and down to earth and the ambiance of the restaurant is delightful. It's almost like two restaurants in one- the more formal interior and the casualness of the patio merging together to create a wonderful dining experience. The big win for me was when my friend turned to me and said "Now this was the perfect evening and birthday". And that pretty much says it all! read more

We chose Celadon for a place to go after a day of wine tasting and walking around the town of Napa. The menu sounded delicious. Celadon did not disappoint. The service and food were wonderful. Our calamari appetizer was delicate and nicely fried. Our entrees were perfect. We had tasty cocktails as well. We never lacked for attention from the staff, who brought water and offered several rounds of delicious bread. Food and service were excellent. My only complaint was the heat; the overhead heaters were too toasty. It was a cool evening, but it felt like a furnace inside. Our server turned the heater over us off, which was fine for us, but apparently the table next to us thought it was too cold. Someone else turned the heater back on. Fortunately, at this point, we were nearly finished with our meal. But the couple next to us complained of the heat....not sure how that was resolved. Went for an early (6pm) dinner before the theatre. Had read reviews on this restaurant and all were very good, with no ups and downs like so many reviews can be. Located in the Historic Napa Mill, downtown Napa, the restaurant is tucked behind an inn along the river. Entering through a courtyard with high, sky-lighted ceilings, you may choose to dine here or, continue through to the semi formal room in the back, next to a small bar. We like cocktails before a meal so, headed for the bar. If specialty drinks are your thing, they've got em, along with all the usual suspects and, a couple of handcrafted whiskeys the owner goes to Kentucky to blend, himself. The bartender was friendly and engaging with a good knowledge of the menu so we opted to stay put and eat at the bar, along with a couple other diners. Describing their food as, "Global Comfort" with flavors from the Mediterranean, Asia and the Americas, I was anxious to see what it was all about. Being a calamari freak and having seen a photo of this plate on the restaurant's website, I had to try it. The fish was cooked perfectly and the spicy chipotle chili glaze was surprisingly good. Kinda sweet kinda salty and delish. The portion was large enough for two to share. Next, I ordered the special baby beet salad with greens served with a pungent cheese (cannot remember the name?). Also, quite good. For mains my husband ordered pan roasted mussels with applewood smoked bacon, tomatoes and white wine served with grilled french bread slices. Good but, I would prefer the tomatoes be finely chopped. This dish came out too rustic with wedges of tomatoes atop the shellfish that just got in the way. I had the special fish, pan seared Steelhead (wild salmon) on a bed of bitter greens, creamy mashed potatoes, with a crispy Chanterelle mushroom on top. The chef left the skin on and grilled the fish, skin side down first till it was very crispy. Personally, I love this method but too few chefs serve fish this way. The dish was lightly sauced in a foamy broth. Everything worked well together and I cleaned the plate! Of course, I had to have wine to wash down this fab meal and the bartender recommended a "Etude" Pinot Gris - Carneros with my salad and a creamy, "Hess" Suskol Vineyard Chardonnay with the fish. BTW, they have a diverse wine list with by the glass selections, half bottles and full. We will return soon. It's rare that I've mixed feelings about a restaurant but Celadon perplexes me. The decor in updated side of restaurant reminded me of a one-off restaurant attempting to imitate a high-end chain restaurant a la California Pizza Kitchen. What an odd observation. I ordered the butter lettuce salad that was not well tossed albeit intense vinaigrette tastes with some leaves, no vinaigrette on other leaves. I decided on a small plate for my main. The pork belly accompanied by stir-fried vegetables sans crispy rice noodles was okay but overly favored kecap manis. Me too. Que es kecap manis? According to my web search, Indonesian sweet soy sauce aka kecap manis is one of my most used sauces besides soy sauce and oyster sauce. I finished my meal with lemon meringue pie. The meringue was lovely, the key-lime-like custard tasteful and crust a bit doughy. Our waiter? Not as clever as he thought himself and certainly not ready for Broadway or likely to challenge Louis Szekely aka Louis C.K....ever. I won't recommend nor condemn but do commit myself to trying all other restaurants in Valley before contemplating a return. read more

Love everything about Celadon! The location, the beautiful covered 'greenhouse' you can dine in for a semi-outdoor experience, and the service is consistently wonderful! Just ok. My husband and I had a dinner reservation on a Friday evening, we were seated quickly in the indoor dining room area which was great since the bugs were out and about in the outdoor area. Wait staff was attentive. Our crab cake appetizer was delicious and the wine was tasty. Our mains were just meh. I had the half chicken and my husband had the pork chop. Both were bland and on the drier side. Veggies were just ok. Nothing was bad, just meh. read more

Really enjoyed coming here. The service was perfect. Our crab cake appetizer was deliciously crispy and flavorful. My friend ate the Tuna and it was TO DIE FOR! However, we had the basil tomato cheese app. It was very basic and uninspiring. For my main dish I had the risotto. I was seriously disappointed. The texture of it and creaminess was perfectly done, however, the flavor palate was very tasteless. Do not waste your time with this dish. I really believe they could redo the dish entirely. Also, I personally feel it's a cop out vegetarian dish. read more
