King cut prime rib, a glorious hunk of beef came out ordered Rare, it was cold, and overdone what a disappointment I looked forward to that meal for quite some time having moved to FLA where they have no clue...it was still ok but I am used to this place being rock solid- 3 other meals tips, burger, and fish sandwich all good- hey everybody has a bad night once and a while, still nothing but love! read more

This is a large, yet cozy established neighborhood restaurant. We started our dinner with a few drinks - my friend had the martini, I had some sort of drink with pomegranate - delicious. Next course were the fresh oysters, a real treat. My friend enjoyed the stuffed scrod. I chose the fried seafood. It was way too much food. Next time I'll get something not fried. Our food was wonderful. Bake stuffed scallops, mussels, chowder, scallops wrapped in bacon and fabulous salads! Prices are amazingly low for the area and quality of food. Not to be missed. Service was absolutely great, but the lobster rolls we received were absolutely disgusting. First they screwed up and came out with lobster rolls with mayo on them instead of hot butter. Then they brought out "new lobster rolls" that were ice cold globes of congealed butter all over the top of them that made me gag and want to throw up right there at the table. I'm sorry to the kind staff here and used to love going to this restaurant for their consistently decent food. However, it seems this place has fallen far far from where it used to be. Someone in the kitchen definitely needs to go to cooking school or they need to find a new head chef quick. Sorry for the one star review, but it was the worst service I've had in a long time. I am a regular at this restaurant, one of the few times, my wife and I sat at the bar, drinks came fast, but ordering food took forever, we waited 20 mins, the server came over, asked if we were ready, we said yes, then she left us without taking the order, she continued to clean up, cashed people out, 10 mins later we decide to leave. I usually sit in the Tavern area and the servers are amazing...last time sitting at the bar. read more

This evening 2/17 the food was so gross! Asked for the prime rib special medium rare. It came medium well. There was something wrong with the underside. It was like chewing leather. The sides rice and broccoli were ice cold. The mussels were room temp. Over all totally gross. Preying on the elderly? Just disgusting. read more

Saw good reviews on google and less positive ones on Yelp so wanted to see what it was like. My experience was good overall and it seemed like a popular spot as there was a wait on a Tuesday night. The Buffalo chicken wrap and fries were good, though the guy next to me said they're known for the prime rib, just wasn't feeling like something that heavy. What happened? A friend and I went for dinner the other night - he for the first time and my fourth visit. First there was a mix up with his order and then when he got the correct one I awaited his opinion expecting him to be pleased as I had enjoyed my previous meals. Instead he looked a bit distressed and kept salting his food, not a good sign. I too wasn't enjoying mine - baked haddock, rice pilaf and coleslaw. We both thought our meals were tasteless and dry. I felt bad because I had recommended the place. After that experience, though I won't go back. It didn't taste the way I remembered it even a year ago. Is it under new management? A new chef? My hubby and I are from NY and we wanted to wait for the rush hour to subside before we head home so we decided to have dinner at the Century House. We ordered the sweet chili Calamari for appetizer and it was cooked perfect! Delicious! Even the rolls were fresh. Then we had the seafood platter with 2 sides. The coleslaw, baked potato and onion rings were all good! Price was reasonable and the fried seafood not greasy. It had haddock, shrimps, scallops and the fried belly clams in light batter and they were flavorful. Compared to the famous seafood restaurant in Essex where we ate our lunch the other day and ordered the seafood combo that was kinda bland and pricey. The chicken kebab with rice pilaf was ok, not much to say. We were super filled and took home some leftover. Service was great too! Our waitress was friendly and accommodating. Smiling all the time. Can't give three stars when the fish chowder had 0 fish.... WTF! I loved those place for the old school atmosphere and cocktails, but when you can't get good food right it's over. The Cracker crust baked haddock I got was lacking the basic of being cooked with care. Came here perhaps a dozen times and sad to go, but I'm done when it is obvious they no longer care what they serve. Points for the Manhattan only and my waitress who was a trooper! read more

Have known about the Century House for as long as I can remember, has that big "Early Bird Special" feel, Had previously looked at the menu and read reviews here and knew exactly what to expect in a sense! The menu is extensive and there are lots of apps/sides/ Options, Meats, seafood. So we tried a little of everything, I dont want to say it was BAD, but it wasnt like OMG this is delicious, I feel that for a few of the things, my versions are better at home. The stuffings, the sauces were all just meh! Im a super foodie and eat out probably too often, we did try many apps and maybe I would consider to give it another stop and try the Prime Rib or a bigger meal but Im not running right back right away. Have been couple of times lately. Last one was for breakfast. Pretty good, not great. Nothing stood out. Bacon was quite thin. Omelette was fine. Wait service was spectacular. Waitresses have been there for decades, know their stuff, and are there just before you need then. Wish I knew her name. Other time I went recently was for lunch. Had a salad with steak tips. Was good. Really fine. Again Waitress was wonderful and everything was fine. Ambiance is great. It hasn't changed in decades. It is spread out, old fashioned and comfy. I like it. But then, it is probably because I used to go there with my grandmother. If I was visiting the area and went there I would probably be disappointed. If you go, be sure to drop into their Epicurean shop. It is very good. The prices are wonderful and it is the same food as the restaurant of course. Hubby loves their American Chop Suey and it is $5 for a medium plastic container. Half the cost of other places. It is good, too. read more

Our go to restaurant when in the Peabody area. Visited last night and the best part of the meal was our waiter, who refreshed drink's although he seemed to be covering too many tables. Appetizers and our main entrees have definitely been the victims of shrink inflation. Not much ambiance when you're seated across from kitchen door and hostess stand. This is an update to a prior review. I just reviewed my CC statement for November and found that I was charged $20 for a Thanksgiving day reservation. When my wife called they advised that it would be $10 for a couple and $20 for a group of four, but when I called to dispute the charge the representative stated it was $10/person and refused to help us. I am extremely disappointed with the way we have been treated by the management and will never patronize this restaurant again. read more

Great early ( 5:00) dinner on a Saturday night. Waited about 15 minutes. Food was awesome, and a great value. Caprese salad was delicious, and the perfect portion size. The onion soup was cheesey and hot and luscious. Bean dip was great, as always. My roast beef, an $18 special, was so tasty, as was my husband's turkey dinner. Service was quick and friendly. This is a restaurant that does a fairly poor job across the board. When I arrived, I asked the waitress what she recommended, and she immediately told me the most expensive thing on the menu, so it was disappointing that she wasn't able to speak well about the menu. I ordered the Yankee pot roast and a cup of tea. She brought me a cup of tea that wasn't hot , and bread that looked like such poor quality, I didn't even try it. The gravy was beyond bad: flavorless floured water. The broccoli wasn't steamed but boiled and it was undercooked and water logged, awful. The whipped potatoes were not hot so, basically, nothing was cooked well, it was just poor quality all around and, I can't recommend it to anyone and I don't think I'm go again. read more

Walked into the restaurant and on the left was the bar side and on the right was tables got a seat at the bar and the place was hoping. Bartender was excellent very nice and on top of her game as well got a nice cold beer then ordered a pretzel which was huge came out hot and was delicious with the secret sauce to dip. Got a Chicken parm sandwich with fries and it was excellent one of the best. The cheeseburger club was excellent as well came out great and the Prime Rib looked awesome nice good size and juicy as well just the way I like it. Went for lunch on 6/28/2025. Food was good and came in a timely manner. There were 4 of us and we ordered two meals to split. When I received the check I noticed a $5.00 fee for plates. I have split many meals before, but have always been told up front there would be an additional fee. Also, when I receive a plate charge of $5.00 I expect my food to be split for me, not two plates just thrown at the table. I was very unimpressed with how I was nickel and dimed with very little done for the upcharge. Century House can do better than this. read more

Really good food, good service, great daily specials, etc.! Like anywhere there are hiccups from time to time depending, but a pretty good experience overall!! PROS: This place was amazing for Thanksgiving. They honored our reservations and were one of the few places open. They had good quality food and a special holiday menu. The staff was very nice to us and they even had a full bar for those who want to watch sports CONS: The bathroom was very very small which caused a line up OVERALL: I 100% would recommend coming here for thanksgiving or any holiday. We were suppose to eat in bar area but customers were taking longer than expected we had reservations at 4 o'clock and didn't get taken till 440. We had to go to a different table. In another room . I was so disappointed. I was telling my parents how good it "Was " never again. Let's start with the service horrible, ordered a few drinks and bean dip( which used to be included in the meal ) never was brought out till the end in a brown bag with the check. The second thing , the waiter asked if we wanted a refill. Well as you can guess that was also brought after the meal with the check. Now the issue with food. My parents both ordered the seafood Alfredo ( 30.00 meal ). The key word seafood. Hardly any , three shrimp, three scallops and two tiny pieces of lobster. I order fried haddock not good tail end of the fish. Over all not worth the money. Better off going to Olive Garden right down the street. I do not recommend it. Very disappointed!! Ate there for the 1st time with wife and 2 boys.. my prime rib was ok, but the mashed potatoes that came with it was definately powdered potatoes froma box. My esparigus was extremely wilted and half had no sprout, it was just a stem.. My son ordered the chicken kebob, that was $19.99.. He got a 9" skewer with pieces of chicken and a few vegetables, on a bed of rice.. This was something that should be on a children's menu for $8.99.. Wife and I were not pleased at all, my wife keeps saying thank goodness they never asked how our meals were, they would have got an ear full.... read more

I used to go there all the time food was always good but the last time I went I got a $30 Fishermans platter and the french fries on the bottom was so oily that I couldn't eat them. The waitress was nice and took three dollars off I won't be going back. read more
