The strawberry matcha drink was very disappointing and tasted more like strawberry milk and lacked of matcha flavor. The purple ube lavender drink had a flavor that was strange tasting. Stopped by this really cute shop to check it out since I love matcha. Reading the reviews convinced me not to get any and to opt for the Purple Drink instead. The shop smelled really good and was clean. The only thing I didn't love was the open bowls of matcha on the counter next to the register. These were actively being used for the drinks but were within easy sneezing distance for customers. Just made me shiver a bit. The Purple Drink was actually pretty satisfying in regard to what I was looking for: sugary, milky, and iced (a recommendation from one of the staff). Yay... The Broome street store has a location I Midtown. This doesn't have the long lines like the original store. It does not have much of a seating area, more of order and go. Such a cute little cafe right by Bryant Park. Stopped by for a refreshing drink while walking around and saw they had a variety of colorful drinks. Decided to try the Blue Drink since I wasn't as much in the mood for matcha. My friend got a Nitro Matcha which she seemed to really enjoy (she also specifically chose the spot for their nitro matcha haha). Love that they have a variety of dairy alternative options (I chose coconut milk) though you do have to pay an extra $1 on top of a pretty pricey drink to substitute. I was also asked if I wanted to add matcha to my drink, though the barista didn't seem to recommend it, so I opted not to which I think was the right move. The Blue Drink w/ Coconut was a sweet and creamy drink with not too strong a flavor so any matcha would have overwhelmed the taste. Given it's more neutral flavoring, I suspect the drink may be more enticing for its aesthetics rather than a specific taste. I did think it was quite vibrant and an interesting experience. The pink and green color scheme envelope you into a sense of comfort, while the long glossy wooden table mesmerizes you into sitting for longer than you need to. While the menu had many intriguing speciality drinks and matcha variations, I chose a traditional matcha. I appreciated how they give the option of preparing it hot or iced. As a fervent iced coffee drinker, I chose their iced version of matcha. In all its simplicity, my drink was perfect for an afternoon pick-me up without all the fluff. Many of the drinks are at least 7 dollars--kind of pricey. But the traditional matcha drink is a dollar less and tastes just as delicious and satisfying. The store is super cute but the matcha latte was so diluted and tasteless, it was basically like drinking water. The baristas weren't friendly and made it seem like a hassle anytime anyone would come in to order.
