This was my first visit to a Cha Redefine in this wealthy area and I have to say, I think I need to stick to the ones in my hood. Their booth was bright and busy, with well lit signs and menus. My light-skinned friend and I ordered teas with cheese foam and waited by the pick up area. I am darker skinned and was just wearing jeans, a shirt and a Dodger hat, but the man preparing the to go orders, saw me and asked "are you here to pick up a delivery order?" And I said no, that we just ordered and were waiting for our drinks. This wasn't the first time I was asked If I was an Uber eats or Doordash worker at a boba place before. Not too happy about that. Me and my friend were both carrying bags from the mall and the teas were our last stop. When our drinks were ready, the gentleman set them down next to us with straws. Since our hands were both full, my friend asked "could we get a bag for those? Kinda limited on hands and I have a cane" Yet the two young girls who were before us got a bag automatically, and they weren't carrying any additional things. He bagged them, and didn't say thank you for our purchase, he was completely silent. My friend said thank you to him, but he didn't reply. Not what I was expecting from a high rated tea shop. Easily one of my new favorite boba spots, especially when I'm at South Coast Plaza. They are located in the food area of the mall on the lower level so expect it to be pretty busy inside and in the parking lot. I've been here a couple times already and my favorite has got to the be avocado foam with their jasmine tea. I don't know how they do it, but the avocado foam is so delicious! I tried their blueberry oat milk matcha latte which comes with ceremonial grade matcha, blueberry puree, oat milk and blue spirulina and it was delicious and you can really taste the flavors. I got it at 50% sweet which was perfect cause it tasted sweet but not overwhelmingly sweet. I also tried their mango mango which comes with fresh mango, grapefruit and agar boba. It was creamy, refreshing and definitely something I would get again. Service was ok and could be friendly as the interaction was hostile. Thankfully I went on a weeknight and not a weekend because the lines here get crazy on the weekends. I first asked for the Mango drink but they were out of that. I don't know if that's because they were sold out or if it was because it was out of season. I settled on the Sri Lanka Ceylon Cha Latte, which is their most popular drink. Sri Lanka Ceylon Cha Latte - I love ceylon, earl grey and breakfast teas, but Cha Redefine's version of ceylon left much to be desired. The sweetness and creaminess levels were fine along with the honey roasted pecan pieces, but the tea itself lacked depth. The tea flavor didn't come out, partially because the tea flavor was weak and then the whipped cream on top, when mixed in, smoothed it out and washed out the tea density even more. If you like it smooth and easy without too much tea profile, go for this one, but I'm passing on it next time. If you are craving milk tea or boba while at South Coast Plaza, it's either here or Din Tai Fung. If you are at Cha Redefine on the weekends, the line can get 30 or 40 people deep. I was not wowed by my order but maybe next time I will come back and try the Mango or one of their seasonal specials. As a first timer, I was a bit overwhelmed by the sheer amount of choices on their menu (which was really hard to read unless you were up front) but we decided to go with two of their top 10 drinks, the taro taro and the mango mango. Usually, boba spots specialize in either milk tea or fruit tea, but I was pleasantly surprised at how good both were! The taro taro was very creamy, with REAL high quality taro paste, fresh milk, and a slightly lighter taro cream on top. The mango mango was very refreshing, with tasty little bits of fresh mango pulp and pomelo (which weren't tart at all) as well as agar jelly boba. I never thought of this combo but the nuttiness of the black sesame mixed so well with the rich, creamy flavor of the matcha. It was also nice to know they use ceremonial grade matcha and I could really taste the difference! I wish this was a permanent drink on their menu... Cha Redefine used to be one of our go-to boba shops in SCP. After Phoholic, I'm usually craving a milk tea for dessert. The first year was great as they had the classic black chappucino (basically a ceylon milk tea) and of course you need the boba with it. It was priced right and tasted great, if not a bit lukewarm. Regular ice usually meant 5-6 cubes left as they melted in the milk tea. That was fixed by adding extra ice. The standard drink size is good, but going to a large was a $1 upcharge, which feels excessive. The reason for 3* is that they've recently gotten rid of the classic black and push the ceylon cha latte as a replacement, which comes with whipped cream and pecans on top, at an extra cost. No thanks! Won't be coming back here very often unless I want to spend more than $8 pre-tip for a black milk tea with boba. The value just isn't there. read more

Da Hong Pao Chappucino They mentioned this was one of their more popular drinks and I'm glad they did! It was really yummy, with the right amount of tea flavor (I prefer stronger). My husband tried the strawberry green tea (a blended drink) and said it was really great too. I found their menu a little confusing - any drink name (ie Chappucino) that requires additional explanation is not my fave haha especially when you need to make a quick decision on what to order. If you're curious, a chappucino is NOT a coffee drink, it just describes a milk tea with foam on top. It does get busy so be prepared to wait a little for your drinks! Have been a few times to try a variety of different drinks, and I've come to realize that the Coco Avocado is the best without fail. It's so creamy and the flavors from the fresh avocado and strawberries blend so well together to give a refreshing taste. I've had the Sri Lanka Ceylon latte which is their #1 top seller, but thought it was just alright - didn't taste much different from just standard milk tea latte and wasn't a fan of the addition of the honey roasted pecans and whip cream. I've also had a few of their winter seasonal black sesame drinks as well. The black sesame latte was the best and one of the best black sesame lattes I've ever had. It was interesting how the black sesame is from the cold foam, which makes the taste more subtle, rather than being mixed with the milk directly, but the drink was still very smooth and had the right amount of sesame flavor. Definitely would get this one again if they ever bring the black sesame menu back. The black sesame matcha was alright - I think the matcha grade was a little too strong for the black sesame cold foam that it was hard to taste the black sesame. And the black sesame mountain tasted like a standard black sesame smoothie, but the milk was very fresh and I think the whip cream and pecans went well with it. Located in the food court of Bloomingdale's, Cha Redefine seemed like a good stop to grab a drink as it was about 90 degrees outside. I ordered a "Matcha Tornado" ($6.95) and a matcha soft serve ($5) because as a green tea soft serve lover, I knew I had to give Cha Redefine's a try. Both items came out quickly and I was pleasantly surprised with the portion size of the matcha soft serve. For $5, it was a size-able amount and I like how they didn't try to skimp out of the soft serve like most places I've been to recently where there's a gaping hole in the middle of the cup with no soft serve. As for the taste, it was decent. The soft serve was creamy but it sadly didn't have a strong matcha flavor and wasn't very memorable compared to other places I've had. As for the Matcha Tornado, jt was just okay and I didn't get much matcha flavor out of this either. Of the two, I'd say I prefer the matcha soft serve over the drink. Cha Redefined is located right next to Bloomingdales among other shops on the first floor. They rank their drink in order of popularity of it. I had to try the Mango Mango which is coconut and mango with all the other delicious stuff mixed in it. The flavor was just right with the flavor of coconut and the creaminess of it along side mango puree and pieces on the bottom of the cup. It was both refreshing and hit all the right spot on a hot day. It is definitely slightly over priced but I get it being positioned at a mall next to Bloomingdales. There is seating scattered around the area next to other stores here. My next test here would be trying their milk head as those some of the true litmus test when it comes to tea shops. read more

Was in the Collage to get some lunch and saw a bunch of people holding flyers for this place. It was around the corner, so we decided to take a look at what was going on. I guess it was their grand opening or something. I enjoyed everything about this drink besides the fact that it came with huge chunks of pomelo. It was very sour and kind of ruined the balance of flavors.
