The food's decent at this restaurant, but a bit too greasy. I got the spicy noodles and man, my noodles and meat were drenched in oil. The waiter is nice and friendly, but she was the only one servicing the entire restaurant. It took her 20 minutes to give us water. The food didn't come very fast either. I remember seeing a table left uncleaned from the moment we sat down until we left...good thing the place wasn't packed that night. They need to hire another waiter if they cared a little more about customer service. read more

They still need a min. of $10 for credit cards....But for some reason, I still come back for the pad thai. Some days I like it spicy some days I like it with chicken and tofu. Oh chantaboon noodles, where have you been all my life? Friend of mine introduced me to this little gem and I've been a fan ever since. I have to say, hands down, THE best pad thai I've had. The chantaboon noodles they use make the dish have so much flavor. It comes with either chicken, beef, pork or shrimp ($1 extra). They also have a seafood version if you feel ever so special (pricier of course). During lunch it comes with a side of rice (which I always opt out of) and a small cup of soup. The soup itself is simple but oh so good. Add some sriracha for some kick and you're good to go. Another favorite of mine is the yellow curry with chicken, although if you're adventurous you can go for the red curry...spicy! Going here for over 4 years now and I've always come out happy and full. Bit of a hole in the wall place, so you have to be on the lookout for it. But when you find it I swear you'll never look for any another pad thai again. read more

I ordered Pad See Ew through a phone order and was told to come in 30 min to pick it up. When I arrived to pick my order up, the lady at the counter gave me a shrimp cashew nut order, which I explained to her was not what I ordered. She showed me on the receipt that whoever had taken my order had placed it in wrong, but she still didn't offer me a refund, to change my meal to the correct order; she didn't offer any kind of recourse. It was basically "tough luck". I would have almost been fine just taking what they had given me except the portion was TINY for the price I had paid ($15). One of the few Thai restaurants which are really good in orange county. The place is very clean, the menu is good and food tastes just excellent. Vegetarians will be happy as well. I tried the spicy fried rice and it just mesmerized my taste buds . The hot pot soup (forgot the exact name) is just to die for. Its coconut milk based and it somehow tastes just right. Needed to find a bite to eat nearby my hotel; this place was 3 blocks away. We both had the dinner special which included the entree, salad, soup, egg roll, fried wonton and rice. My main dish was sweet and sour shrimp. There was about 4 shrimps in the entree and it was okay tasting, not terrible, not terrific. My friend ordered the pad thai which I was not really impressed with. I liked the wonton soup, the egg roll, salad and fried wonton. I didn't really like the fried rice, it was a bit on the dry/overcooked side. Customer service was average. We walked there so I can't comment on parking. Prices are very affordable. read more

My friend introduced me to this place and I thank him for that! Ever since I have tasted the Pad Thai from this place, I will never think that any other Pad Thai is worthy or be rated as good as they prepared it. The lunch specials are great, the service is friendly (been enjoying this place for well over four years) and the Thai iced tea is to die for! Not sure why others think that the portions are either too small or not cooked to perfection? I have had most of the items off the menu and only complain about the drunken noodles, because it was not spicy and did not meet my expectations. Update time! I've been here a few time since my last review and I must say that the Pad Thai is DELICIOUS. I was hesitant to order it at first because the noodles were overly orange in color. =P But the noodles were nice and chewy and the sauce was slightly sweet and not too salty. The dish came out fresh and piping hot. Beef was a tad overdone, but it didn't diminish the tasty factor. Other things: *Lunch specials are great ($7.50). Comes with wonton soup. Broth is light with hints of garlic. Portion sizes are usually generous. *If you order any of the curry lunch special, portions are smaller *Food can be SALTY. It seems to be a hit or miss. My coworker ordered the same dish twice and the first time it was fine, but the second time she could barely finish it because it was too salty. I had the same experience. Chicken chow mein was way too salty. *If ordering a lunch special with noodles, you can sub out the white rice for salad. Service is friendly, attentive and the food comes out relatively quick. read more

I'm Cambodian, and Thai food has a lot of similarities to Cambodian food. Also, I've been to Thailand many times, so I have an idea of what the food should taste like. This place is pretty authentic, though not the best Thai food I've ever had. My husband and I went here for an early dinner last Friday, and we were the first ones in the restaurant at about 6 pm. Since it was our first time, and we were very hungry, we ordered a lot of food - which came out to $40 w/o tip. We got our curries at level 5 spiciness, though I personally could have done a 6 or maybe a 7 w/o any issues. My husband and I love spicy food and have a high tolerance, but he said that he was glad that his yellow curry wasn't any spicier (because if it was, he wouldn't have been able to taste the curry as well). My red curry wasn't as spicy for some reason, even though it was at the same level. Thai Iced Tea - Had a bit too much cream and wasn't as strong and sweet as other places. It was okay for my taste, since I like my Thai tea stronger usually. Beef skewers (appetizer) - We got about 6 skewers of flattened beef and delicious peanut sauce and diced melon (I think) salad to spread on top of the beef. The beef by themselves were okay tasting and didn't have much flavor, but the peanut sauce was really good! Cup of Tom Yum soup w/ shrimp - I was craving a soothing hot and sour soup, and this one was really good. My husband never had Tom Yum soup and remarked on how good it was. It has a strong lemon grass flavor, which is good and typical of Thai food. It had quite a bit of shrimp in the little bowl - about 6 - 8, which was awesome. Good flavor and spices. Red curry with chicken - I got this one and liked it, though I was surprised that it only came with a cup of rice (literally it was in the shape of a cup) and a small bowl of curry. Usually, Thai places give a lot of rice with their food. This place was a bit skimpy on the rice and the curry. The red curry was a tad bit too watery and wasn't as flavorful or as spicy I hoped (I wanted to order level 6 or 7 spiciness at first, but our server advised against it since they said their spiciness level was higher than most places, so I ordered a level 5 as he suggested). The chicken pieces were tender, though it did taste a bit overcooked ("chickeny" tasting, if that makes since, like fish tastes fishy"). Yellow curry with chicken - My husband got this and loved it. His curry tasted spicier than mine - it had a kick at the end, probably because it was a thicker curry than the red curry (even though we both got level 5 spiciness). For yellow curry (which is also a Cambodian staple that's one of my favorite foods), it wasn't as sweet as I was hoping. It was good though. They definitely could have given more chicken with both of our curries. Wanton soup - This came with our dinner special, and the flavor of the broth was surprisingly very good for how plain and simple it looked. My little bowl had a lot of dried garlic pieces (more than my husband's), so it tasted garlicky the way I liked. It was good. Overall, we were pretty stuffed by all the food we got, since we got the appetizers. Again, I just thought the main part of my meal was a bit small (small cup of rice for the amount of curry, and not many pieces of chicken in our curry), but overall it was a good amount of food. I would go back here if we're in the area. My husband loves Thai food and really liked the place. But for me personally, I'd like my Thai food to be a bit more flavorful. I do have a feeling though that the taste of the Thai food here may have been more tamed than it should be because they're trying to appeal to a bigger variety of people. So maybe on a scale of authenticity and good genuine Thai flavors, I would probably rate this place a 7 out of 10. It was definitely almost there, but not quite what I was hoping for. read more

It was the only real local Thai place in town. I decided to try it out because I was craving Thai food and needed a quick meal for dinner. I called in to order a pad see ewe with beef and the red curry with beef. We asked for a Level 8 Heat in the curry. The lady was nice and said that the order will be ready in 20 minutes. We drove to pick up the order on the corner of Chapman and Main. It definitely isn't the safest place in town but there were a few customers in there having their dinner. We ordered two Thai Iced Teas to go as well. The pad see ewe was decent. Not that spicy and the noodles weren't overdone. I usually prefer the noodles to me a little more burnt for the smokey feeling. It was okay. Not amazing or wonderful. I tried my boyfriend's red curry and it was tasty with a lot of coconut. It had a lot of heat and went well with the rice. I will order a curry next time. The total came out to be $30.00, a little pricey for the quality and quantity of food that they give you. I love thai food and am not really picky about it. But this place was just not that good. Got chicken pad thai and red curry w/beef. The noodles were cooked unevenly, with some that were really hard and dry. The beef curry was really watery and the flavor wasn't full. Service was fine, portions were ok and price was reasonable. Went to the restaurant on Sunday Sept 27 2020 and placed a to go order just before 6 pm. It was 635 pm when the order was ready. In that time period, the staff apologized 7 times even after being told my order would be "Right up" because you only had 1 cook. Instead they had a teenager who seemed to know nothing and had to be told what to do over and over. Come on man, instead of being so apologetic make sure you staff properly. Worst Thai in OC. I've tried quite a few places and this is 2nd to worst (My Thai on Whittier Blvd is THE WORST). The Pad Thai was mushy, lacking flavor and put a sticky substance in my mouth. I stopped in about 3:30pm on a weekday not really knowing what to expect since I am not from the area, but I took a chance and I'm glad I did! The place is def homey and I felt like I was eating out of a grandmas kitchen. The tom ka gai soup was excellent (perfect spice and blend of coconut milk n chili and lemongrass) as were the fried spring rolls..it was the best thai food i have had outside of thailand. The server was the sweetest lady, but yes, I thought the service was a bit slow, even with just me in the restaurant! The food came out quick enough however. We went with the dinner combo which included a salad soup and rice for under $10 a plate. I ordered mine 5* Thai hot and would have liked it to be a little hotter, but the good news was the additional 4 hot sauces that they bring to the table. Nice touch. read more

Surprisingly good! The atmosphere inside does not reflect the sketchy parking lot vibe. The food was great! The service could have been better but they were slammed and had an unruly customer that the tiny woman who was running the place escorted out! It was entertaining but tense. Most impressive! Went with a friend and had papaya salad, pan-fried dumplings, red curry with chicken, and a noodle dish with shrimp and egg called Kai Kua. Everything was delicious, delectable, and tasty! It was a Sunday evening and very quiet in the restaurant ...which was decorated with some fun colors, including orange. Do not go here for take out or delivery. They don't answer the phone, they take forever to prepare your order and they mess up your order once you get it. I came in to order take out since they didn't pick up the phone, and I couldn't call in my order since they didn't pick up. When I walked in there was one table waiting for their food. I placed my order (two dinner specials, wonton appetizer and a salad). The lady said it would take 15 minutes. Thirty-five minutes later, she finally brings out my order AFTER two other tables and a take out order that came after me got their food BEFORE me. One entree is missing the fried rice so she takes it back and corrects it. I ask for soy sauce and extra salad dressing so she walks back to the kitchen. It took her so long to get these items, I walked out without them. Once I get the food home, I realize they got the order wrong, the soup looks like bamboo broth with week old lettuce and the wontons are cold and clearly the first thing done after waiting 40 minutes for take out. Take it from me... DO NOT go here for take out or delivery (they advertise but it's not always available). I guess it's your lucky day if you eat in because they care more about their tables than those who want to eat out of the restaurant. Goodbye, Cha Thai. I used to enjoy your food, but I will not tolerate mediocre sauteed dishes and poor service in a city full of delicious Thai. read more

That comes with an egg roll, 2 wontons and rice and a little salad. All very tasty and served quickly. Reasonable prices. My plate was in the $10-12 range. Next time I will try a different plate to accurately gauge the food quality, however, with that said, what I ordered was very good. Location is in a strip mall setting which is ok except for the massage parlor right next door. The place itself is older but in no way deficient. I guess it would be nice to have different music piped through the speakers than what appeared to be the 90's greatest hits. Oops. I stand corrected, 80's and 90's. :-) Try this place. Visiting from out of town and ordered pad Thai and wonton soup through Uber Eats. I left a note to make it extra spicy. I also asked to include extra hot sauce and peppers to spice it to my liking, cause I like it hot, and nobody makes it spicy enough for me. Guess what...I didn't need their extra sauces! DANGGG! If there's anything I love, it's when a Thai restaurant follows your instructions. But not only was it legit hot, it had THE best flavor I've ever had, both the soup and pad Thai. We ordered the following (and shared it all amongst 7 of us): -Broccoli (with Beef) -Chicken Cashew Nut -Prik King (with Pork) -Yellow Curry Chicken -Pad See Ew (with Chicken) -Thai Salad -Tofu Soup -Vegetarian Pad Thai -Fried Rice (with Chicken) -Side of steamed rice -Side of brown rice All of us LOVED almost everything and there was actually only dish no one seemed fond of. Oddly enough, it was the chicken curry that no one was crazy about. There was too much of something in there.....one person said she though it was fish sauce? That minor complaint aside, everything else was soooooooooooooo good and this restaurant deserves a five star rating. I would definitely eat from Cha Thai again! read more

Last Sunday I spent hours changing my cell carrier. It was raining, cold and I was hungry and getting a bit grumpy. When I was finally free to leave the cell store I was thinking how lovely some Tom Kah Gai soup would be and then I remembered seeing Cha Thai in the next plaza during one of my commmutes home from work. Well, GF and I walked into Cha Thai out of the pouring rain to a very cute, clean and cozy restaurant. They were playing Christmas music and even had a lit and decorated Christmas tree up. So perfect! Their Tom Kah Gai soup is really good - it's a little sweeter than some other versions and a little less sweet than others. I can really identify which version I prefer. But, I definitely like theirs. We also ordered the Pad Thai which is fantastic! A little bit skimpy on the chicken but not too bad. I'm definitely excited to have such a cute Thai place near my home. They said they were going to start a Happy Hour sometime in the future which would be awesome! I will be there probably far more often than I should be! read more

The food is amazing but the service is horrible. We walked in @ 8:03 pm and I understand they close @ 9 pm and the employees want to go home on time but I don't like to be rushed @ a restaurant & constantly be reminded that we need to hurry up because they are closing soon. This is all I kept hearing throughout our entire time that we are there that they are getting ready to close so she kept rushing us to order and kept repeating herself over and over. When I dine in I want to eat peacefully and relax. To me it was extremely rude and uncomfortable. This makes me not want to go back! I'm very disappointed in the service we received! read more

LOVE cha thai! their dinner specials are a really awesome deal...get this: won ton soup- SO good. like, so flavorful. can't wait for winter to get a hot pot of this! salad- with yummy dressing! entree with choice of meat rice- white or brown egg roll- veggie, but big! 2 fried wontons- with i think pork in them. all of this for $10! I don't even know how they make money. i have ordered take out several times and also eaten in a couple times (and i have only lived here 4 months- don't judge me!) and the staff is friendly, the restaurant itself is clean and well decorated and the food is delicious. i am a big fan of curry and theirs is really delicious. i will be back again and again, thanks Cha Thai! read more
