This is a beautiful, unique tea room. I have many happy memories here with friends - the most recent was a special celebration to encourage a senior friend who had lost a few family members. Sadly, for us, she has gone on to glory, but no doubt she is enjoying her new life with Jesus. I could not recommend it more for a place to connect and love on one another. I love the scones and pastries and they have never put a foot wrong in terms of the teas that I have been served. It may be a cultural thing, but nearly every tea sandwich is smoked. And the bread is toasted. As much as I love Chado, I don't love that. I really wish I did. Not that the flavor is bad: I just prefer a British egg or chicken sandwich on soft, fresh bread - and I don't like smoked salmon on anything. The cucumber is yummy. I was very shocked because the person in charge would not honor our $40 discount from OpenTable even though the $40 discount that I had earned from dining at a multitude of OpenTable restaurants listed online that I could use the $40 discount there! I even showed it to the server. It was obvious that the $40 discount was legitimate. However, instead of honoring it, she called the manager or owner. This person refused to honor the $40 OpenTable discount!!! I ended up having to pay a lot of money for a birthday afternoon tea! Even worse is that, since I didn't use the $40 discount there, OpenTable has not let me use the $40 discount at another restaurant! I cannot seem to talk to a live person only AI ChatBots! I am getting really frustrated! This is horrible customer service on their part! Also, there was a very large group of women that were what they call "Educated Nannies" near us that were all talking extremely loudly! This was both disrespectful and very annoying! I thought afternoon tea was supposed to be relaxing and quiet. Honestly, this group should have had a private event especially because of how very loud and rude they were! The person in charge of this large group of women and two girls was amazingly extremely loud!!! The server apologized for them afterwards and seemed very stressed out by this group. Reservations @ 230 for baby shower and we arrived early. 1 employee to work the entire inside and outside patio for weekend just unacceptable because customers suffered. Employee was friendly and outgoing but service was lacking. We were unsure what to order and she recommended what to order but we were short of food for our guest. It was embarrassing, we offer to get more food and my guest declined saying no we will go eat elsewhere afterwards because to receive it takes almost 45 minutes or long. When we received the food, employee disappeared. We attempted to flag her down and several times we did not see no employees for at least an hour. We could have easily left without paying. We asked for ice and never received it. My pet peeve is dirty dishes. Once guest finished plates sat their and piled. We were tempted to go into the kitchen to help them. I have gone to other Chado with double guests and received excellent service but this location it was disappointing. They do validate parking 2 hrs. Parking is approximately $10-15 depending how long you stay. I wouldn't recommend having your function at this location. Take the drive to their other Chado locations. We had a lovely time at Chado! I took my son for his first afternoon tea. He thought it was going to be similar to having tea at Starbucks. It was such a special treat. The server was absolutely wonderful and sweet. She didn't rush us at all and knew that afternoon tea is a special occasion. Our teapots were adorable elephants with little stoppers that worked incredibly well. The scones were absolutely delicious! We made our reservation only a couple of hours before our tea. The good: I am a huge fan of hosting and attending tea parties. I was very excited to try out this tea room because they had the full afternoon tea service for under $30/person. It came with chocolates (matcha, lavender, and one other one I do not recall), macarons, butter cooker, individual tea pot, tomato soup or salad and tea sandwiches. I liked the huge variety of tea options and that they had both indoor and outdoor dining options. I was able to easily make appointments online. You can choose from tea options in the menu or look at their huge wall of tea options and choose from there. The salmon sandwich was nice because it came with cream cheese, baby dill and sliced lemon. We got a complimentary champagne tea (alcohol free) which was pretty and unique. I tried the carnival tea and a second tea that was very smoky and interesting in flavor. The bad: The egg sandwich was very bland and didn't seem to have anything inside of it except smashed egg and minimal mayo. It would have been nice with some mustard, salt, chives, or herbs. All of the food got brought out rather quickly but it made the meal feel a little rushed. The bread on the tea sandwiches were toasted which made it taste untraditional. Also, because they weren't warm from being toasted, they tasted stale or as though they had been toasted long ago. The lemon slice in the salmon were different sizes for both sandwiches. One was very thick and the other was thin. It would have been nicer if both were thin. The scone came with jam that tasted like Smucker's strawberry jam. The jam was overly sweet. The lavender chocolate had too much lavender for me. The salad had an uninteresting dressing that tasted more like oil without enough vinegar. Was there shortly after 11:00am, which is a good time to go as they were not crowded. Ordered the Afternoon Tea Service, all of which was very good as well as being a very good value. ($19.95) There are other slightly more expensive options for those who may want even more to eat (such as soup, salad, wine, or additional desserts). The $19.95 tea service was more than enough for me. Always order Assam tea when available. Ordered the T-29 Assam tea, which the menu described as "self-drinking". Having never seen anything like that before, watched the tea after the waiter poured it into the cup, but it did not drink itself, so I drank it before it got cold. My friend likes to have high tea, so I found this place on yelp. We got the afternoon celebration tea service with rooibos bourbon and lavender earl grey teas. The tea was weak, so you couldn't really get any of the flavor, so if you like your tea a bit stronger, to seep longer or for them to add more tea...then I suggest that you let them know how weak or strong you like your tea. The Souchong chicken sandwich was very dry, and didn't have much flavor. The punjab sandwich also did not have very much flavor. Also the tea they service over ice was awful, and neither of us drank it. Overall, we didn't eat much of what they served, and felt like we spent more than what it was worth. Not sure that I would come back her or try another location. If I do high tea again then I would probably find another place to try. read more

This place is such a gem! It's hidden in the most touristy spot (2nd floor of the ovation) but feels like you're somewhere tranquil. We had a reservation and thank goodness cause they were unusually overwhelmed with one server and one person in the kitchen, someone must have called out on them. But our server was very apologetic and everything came out wonderfully. The iced "champagne" tea was so refreshing. I had the butterscotch tea which tasted like maple pancakes, so I loved it! With cream and sugar the taste is even more prominent. I've had the coconut vanilla which is also delicious, but tamer in flavor if you prefer that. The tomato soup is delicious! It must have Parmesan or something in it. The salad was meh... just a tiny portion of mixed greens with vinaigrette. The celebration service was delicious! Initially when I entered I was told there was no room for walk ins because several reservations were expected. I waited about 10 mins and was seated by the hostess/waitress. She was very accommodating as several walk ins came at the same time. I did the afternoon tea service and it was plenty for one and enough to share with another person. I had the standard Chai Tea with sugar and milk on the side. It was hot but not boiling, the perfect temperature. I ate my scone trying it both with the orange marmalade and strawberry clotted cream. Absolutely delicious. I did try the smoked salmon sandwich but I was not my cup of tea; pun intended. I also had a bowl of tomato soup which was tasty but I wish it was heated more. I brought the other sandwiches(Shredded Chicken Cranberry Sandwich, Souchong Chicken Sandwich, Limerk)home to eat for lunch the next day. Also they were so nice to give me an extra scone when I disclosed I didn't enjoy the salmon sandwich. I spent $35 with tip and for LA that's pretty decent. Both my friend and I got the regular chado afternoon tea which came with a pot of teas, 4 half sandwiches, a scone, macaron and a cookie. While it wasn't bad, it was just very regular and kind of bland. There was nothing special about the sandwiches, I could make these at home. The cucumber sandwich was literally cucumber and cream cheese in bread. The egg salad sandwich was just smashed eggs in bread. The scone was decent. Had a slight sweetness and worked well with the sweet cream and jam they gave us. The best part was probably the tea. The tea tasted good. I most likely won't go back. We ordered the afternoon tea set, and wow was I disappointed. Firstly, they recommended us to eat the scones first, which I found appalling. Isn't the proper order to eat the savory first? Why would I want to numb my tastebuds with sweetness first? What happened to dessert last? Anyways, we tried the sandwiches first. The cucumber sandwich was fine and normal. It'd be impossible to mess that up. The egg one tasted meaty for some reason. I feel that the egg they used were not the freshest. The chicken cranberry one was fine, but that's probably just because I'm personally biased towards cranberry. It was a bit dry. The salmon lemon sandwich was strange. The salmon definitely tasted low quality and the bread they used became soggy and flat (maybe they premade the sandwich and left it out too long?) The cucumber and chicken one were the only acceptable sandwiches. Then we ate the scones. The scones defied all natural property of scones. To begin with, they were impossible to cut. I had to hold my knife like a barbarian who just learned what a pointy stick could do. Both scones were insanely dry and over baked. Also, for some reason both scones tasted like a cookie. One tasted like digestive biscuits and the other tasted like a sugar cookie. The clotted cream and jam were fine, but anyone could buy that. I doubt it was made in house. The desserts were very disappointing. Nothing was made in house. There were two pathetic macarons and two cookies (that tasted savory and seemed slightly underbaked) with strawberries on top. What a sad selection! You could get better desserts at Safeway. The only merits about this place were the workers. Both staff members we interacted with were cheerful and sweet, thought it did take us a while to be seated even though the place was empty TDLR if you're looking for afternoon tea, just go to a branded hotel. The staff was amazing, the service was personalized, and the food was delicious! Orlando and both Alexis were just so sweet they brought us both roses which made my mom feel extra special. They had such great tea and food suggestions that at the end my mom ordered a couple ounces of loose leaf to go. What and amazing experience!!!! My mother was asking to go to a tea room but many are closed due to COVID. I called Chado and Orlando was as amazing on the phone as he was when we showed up. He already had menus waiting on the table for us when we arrived. He was kind and knowledgeable about the teas and weaved in jokes that made us laugh while imparting the tea info. We all ordered the Chado Afternoon Tea service, and most of us are vegetarian, which was a SUPER easy replacement (and no fuss). Decor/tea set is lovely and price is better than I've seen anywhere. Let me start out by saying the teas were very nice. The tea cups and pots were very cute and the whole set up was adorable. The reason for my low review is because of the service. I am vegan and called ahead and confirmed about 3 times that they had options for me to eat. They assured me and my party, yes they do. The finger sandwiches arrive and again they assure me it's vegan. So I start eating, trusting them at their word. I'm two sandwiches in and am quite surprised at the likeness in the flavor of the "vegan feta." Then I start to look around and notice there is no difference between my sandwiches and the rest of my party's. I ask the girl, Alexis, what do they use as the cheese replacement. She freezes. THEY DONT HAVE A FETA CHEESE REPLACEMENT. Her response, "oh..I'm sorry, we have a new chef and he doesn't know the whole vegan thing." They made me new sandwiches but at this point the damage is done. I cannot trust them at their word, so I don't eat another bite. This woman won't even look me in the eye and give me a sincere apology. I relaize this place is not known for its food but when someone comes to your establishment with an allergy or a dietary restriction whatever the reason, you need to take that seriously. To go even further, I had to approach HER about compensation. She did not offer me any sort of accommodation for the mistake. When I told her I didn't think I should have to pay for my meal, again, she refused to look at me and sheepishly said, "yeah okay sorry about that." I understand it must have been uncomfortable for her but imagine how I felt? The cherry on top was when she brought a bag of free tea to another woman in my party for her sprained ankle to help with the healing. That was very nice of her, but I think she targeted the wrong customer in this situation. If anyone should have gotten any free gift it should've been me.
