I tried this place for lunch and was not impressed with the food. The place is beautiful, the service was good but what we ordered was 50/50. We ordered: Prig King - green beans, bell peppers,basil in a red chili paste. I added chicken for $1 and requested medium heat. It was good. Medium heat was perfect - just enough to add some interest to the dish. The lunch special comes with a choice of salad or vegetable soup so I chose soup. Unfortunately, the broth was tasteless. Chicken soup - this came with a choice of egg noodle, wide noodle or rice stick. Again, the broth was weak. I think the recurring theme here is not to order any of their soups. I ordered Chai Thai on Uber Eats today. The food came out fast and was still hot when it was delivered. Everything we ate was really good, including (starting with our favorites): Pad ma kuer (eggplant dish) Pad Thai Kao poon (a little salty but super flavorful) Mango sticky rice Fresh spring rolls with tofu Chicken satay If you're craving Thai food during shelter in place, I recommend ordering from here. Pad thai - ordered the vegetarian version, spicy and it was some of the best pad thai I've ever had. Noodles came out nice and hot. Spicy was nice and very spicy; order medium if you want less burn. Came here for lunch during the work week and the lunch rush didn't come in until closer to 1 PM. The lunch prices seemed like a reasonable deal considering the portion sizes. I ordered the yellow curry lunch special, which came with a side of brown or white rice. I chose the soup as a side, with the other option being a salad. I usually do not think much of plating, however the dishes were very odd and unusual to eat off/out of. Was not a huge fan of this. The yellow curry was the only curry I had tried, but it was relatively very sweet compared to yellow curries I've had elsewhere. Was also not a huge fan of this. Lastly, the side of soup was very bland. A chicken broth with some cubed carrots and pieces of cabbage. Maybe if I return and get the lunch special I would skip the soup and maybe try a salad instead. With all that said, I only tried this one order here, so a second try is in order. read more

Chai Thai is definitely one of my FAVORITE Thai Spots in the East Bay! They have locations in Hayward and Oakland also! I've been to all of their locations but the Berkeley one is definitely my favorite! The interior is so pretty! It's the perfect spot for a date night or just a casual dinner with friends or family. They have a wide variety of delicious items to choose from! There is definitely something on the menu for everyone to enjoy! My favorite items are the Pad See Ew, Larb, Pork Leg Stew Noodle Soup, Green Curry, Pla Dook Pad Cha, Grilled Pork Neck, and Curry Roti Dip! They also have a dish with crab in it, it's amazing as well! All the dishes are packed with SO MUCH FLAVOR!! I've brought a lot of friends and family over and they all love it here! The Chai Thai on international is my favorite Thai place in the east bay so I was stoked that I saw one open on my commute home as I'm rarely on that side of the lake. Unfortunately they're completely different restaurants. The new Chai Thai is significantly more expensive, every item on the menu is priced around 3-5 dollars more which makes sense, the new pace is huge, beautifully decorated and in a more expensive part of town. Some of the food is like the fried stuff is fine while other stuff is mediocre and the rectangle plates they use are awkward to eat off of. Particularly they seem to over cook their rice noodles so every time I've gotten a noodle dish it comes out kind of gloopy with not much textural variation. They also give you a tiny amount of rice for the curry and when you're paying $17 for a dish it feels a little galling. If the food was anything like the original Chai Thai I wouldn't mind paying more for the convenient location but while the name and got me in the door a few times I won't be back. read more

I had a bad experience with a delivery service recently and decided to use Door Dash. My friend told me about this place. I have been looking for Chiang Mai noodles (backpacking nostalgia) for a long time. I felt like I was on a tiny still in Northern Thailand at the night market in Chiang Mai. The ground chicken in the soup had little or no taste and was completely overwhelmed by the spicy broth. I asked the waiter about parking. He said the restaurant could not open the parking area in the building right now (noon hour); and he offered no parking options. _____ update 2019-10-28 I have raised from two to three stars. Came here for Berkeley restaurant week. What a treat. From the gluten free menu options which made me cry with joy, to the surprise wine (I swapped out for lychee ice tea) + dessert (mango sticky rice) the price fix menu. The food is delicious and the the employees have always been very pleasant and efficient. My personal favorite is the #44 pork and noodle soup while my SO loves the #58 crab noodle. Ordered pad Thai earlier and it was rancid!! I have never felt compelled to leave a negative review before, but this was the worst meal I've had. The pad Thai smelled awful from the moment I opened the lid, but against my best intuition I took a small bite to see if maybe the smell was deceiving. I gagged and spat it out, had to throw it all away. The fresh rolls weren't bad, but I was too nervous to eat the rest of them for fear of the kitchen being unsanitary or the ingredients rotten.
