Exactly 1 minute later, the line started to fill up - this is your call to reserve beforehand. We opted for patio because it was lovely weather and fresh air is important. Food - La Saussice ($17): 2 fried eggs, chicken-bacon-manchego sausage, cornbread, charred tomato, and chilli crème fraîche. 11/10 gorgeous plating, explanation for why I had my camera out for half the meal. Honestly thought it wouldn't be filling but I was wrong, the portion was perfect. Their chicken bacon sausage deserves a shoutout and an equally big hug because it was tender, juicy, and not to mention the middle was oozing with melted cheese. Oh and, the greens were so FRESH! - Gaufre à la Truite ($19): Sourdough waffle, smoked trout, spinach, two poached eggs, mustard & yuzu hollandaise. I did not order this but it also looked very lovely with its rotund poached eggs sitting on top of smoked trout and sourdough waffle. It came with mint so if you're not a mint fan but loves smoked trout, just push the leaves to the side. - Coffee was great. The great thing about this place is that you can actually reserve a table for brunch. I went on a Sunday and it was very busy. It's good that they have 2 levels so they can accommodate a lot of tables. I thought that the food was good but it was not mind blowing from what I ordered. The food was good, the bread too, which is not the case everywhere. I liked that they had unique flavors for the sauce for the waffles and for some of the hot drinks. Had a fantastic dinner. By some miracle, our party of 5 got a table walking in on a Saturday night. I tried: + death proof cocktail + pain du jour + moules frites (congolaise) + canard et gnocchi (duck) + cuisses de grenouilles (frog legs) + le bison (buffalo tartare) Also had two desserts - a chocolate mousse/ice cream concoction and a cake with olive oil ice creams. I enjoyed the cocktail, and the bread was perfection. The mussels were the largest I've ever had in my life, and had great flavor. The fries were amazing. I've been meaning to check Chambar out for the longest time, but didn't get around to it until Dine Out week rolled around. I loved the fact that they didn't skimp on their portion sizes with the promotional set menus. I started off with the beet carpaccio (yum!!! love the presentation, and the large portion size!), then onto the white wine moules frites (double yum! the mussels were juicy and tender), and finally, tropical cake (which was a letdown in itself, but paired nicely with the coulis and coconut ice cream). My husband had the barbequed pork collar (no complaints; he said it was cooked well), the lamb shank (he said he didn't like how acidic the sauce was, but that the lamb was cooked nicely), and finally, for dessert, the Nico. I'm not usually a fan of dark chocolate, so I didn't quite enjoy it; my husband said he found it too rich. Love the décor and the unique light fixtures; it just feels really cozy in there. Wanted to go to a nice place for brunch on our first day in Vancouver and stumbled across Chambar on our way to Jam which had a crazy long line. At first sight, Chambar seemed a bit too bougie for what we were looking for, and it didn't look like any people were in line. We were really hungry though and decided to take our chances. The interior is really aesthetic with hanging light bulbs & mostly wood and the waiters and waitresses were all really friendly!! Our waitress was really excited to answer the hundreds of questions we had about the menu. We decided on waffles, paella (veggie version), bon matin (veggie version), and breakfast drinks. The waffles were SO. GOOD. Actually the best waffles I've ever had, they were the perfect balance of soft and crunchy. They came with dipping sauces, we chose milk chocolate lavender, salted caramel, and pistachio rose water. This is a must order!! I liked the paella a lot, it was cooked properly and everything went together pretty well. I wasn't a fan of the bon matin mostly because I wasn't sure how to eat it. It seemed more like a charcuterie platter. I really enjoyed the almond milk lavender latte that I ordered, too. Lovely restaurant with top notch service. I have been to Chambar before, but it was year ago at a neighbouring location. I didn't recognize it and found out they moved about 6 years ago. I love the ambiance with the brick walls, wood floors, and wood tables. They have cozy booths in the back and dim lighting with candles all throughout the restaurant. This Belgian restaurant has a great Belgian beer list plus your usual suspects. They have a fairly extensive wine list as well and an on site Sommelier if you want assistance choosing a bottle. The menu is small, but fairly diverse, with duck, ribs, fish, mussles ect... Not a lot of appitizers and I'd to see them expand a bit on that. We enjoyed a wonderful mixed Charcuterie board with three meats and three cheese. There was this amazing cherry "jam" on the board that was sooooo insanely good. It also came with crackers and grapes; all around enjoyable board. I also tried their mussels with Smokey bacon. It was quite good, but not really that Smokey tasting. It came with pomme grits as a side, but I ordered their green salad instead. The salad was a nice mix of Kale, green and purple Lettuce. Very simple with not much else in it and a mustard vinaigrette that I didn't love, but I'm not a big mustard vinaigrette fan to begin with. We enjoyed a lovely bottle of red wine, Bodega something, a wonderful full bodied earthy wine. My most important mention for Chambar was the service. Our server and all of the staff were fantastic. My wine was never empty, neither was my water glass. Everything was quick with a great team of Expediters. Our server was also helpful with suggestions for Cocktails and even offered me their iPad to look at the menu when my phone wouldn't scan the barcode on the table. Made the post out of this long weekend by enjoying a lovely patio dining at An old favourite! A must try here is the Foie Gras and Mussels! I can assure you the Foie Gras Terrine is unlike any other and will turn a non-foie gras eater to start licking off every last bit off this dish! Mussels come in three flavours to choose from - my favourite is the white wine cream! With the patio recently opening back up the restaurant does get quite busy so make sure you make a reservation and book an early seating so you won't be disappointed with missing out on some of the dishes that get sold out nearing the end of the day. They do have great alternatives though! We would have never thought of ordering the rib eye that was the special of the day if the lamb shank wasn't sold out. And it was soo buttery and tender and has a very generous portion that is enough to share with a few so you can try out more dishes too! What a meal this was! read more

Stunning space with high end food. Really beautiful light sculptures as well. I came for brunch and in search of waffles. I started with the whites chocolate pistachio rose water latte (what a mouthful) and it was delicious! I got the bon matin, which was like a breakfast meat and cheese board. Perfect size for me to get since I wanted waffles too, otherwise a bit small for the hungry. For waffles, I added the salted caramel and chocolate lavender dipping sauces. The salted caramel was good but very very sweet. I didn't care for the chocolate lavender, too much lavender for me. Service was extremely friendly and on top of it. I came on a Wednesday morning and was seated right away. Since my hotel was across from Medina, I could see a line there when I was walking to Chambar and there were a few ppl outside jam Beatty as well. Ambiance as always was great and the service excellent. The food, unfortunately was mediocre at best. I've been eating at this restaurant since it opened and have never had this experience. The mushroom crepes were beautiful but very dry and the "caramelized" mushrooms were raw. My duck confit dinner looked beautiful but there wasn't one ounce of liquid or sauce anywhere, making everything, including the gnocchi, dry as a bone and almost impossible to choke down without a lot of water. My friend had the moules frites with smoked bacon which was so overpowering, all you smelled and tasted was that. I'm not sure if Nico is still the head chef, but it's sad to see and pay for beautiful plates that don't actually taste good. read more

I've been here a number of times and it's definitely a spot where you can't go wrong for brunch! I've yet to come here for dinner. Although the food is good, I wouldn't really say it's mind-blowing or extremely memorable - just a safe spot to cater to everyone's palate. I've had the fricasse, bon matin, steak and eggs, omelette - list could go on but I've basically tried their entire brunch menu. One thing that I do love and find delicious is their waffles and dipping sauce! I'd come here just for these on occasion. Chambar was my favorite place to eat in DT Vancouver. The staff is warm and welcoming, which you could tell by their motto on their match boxes: "Strike it right at CHAMBAR an unpretentious fling with fine dining." We managed to fit 3 visits in our short schedule (2 dinners and a breakfast). To start I ordered the Poughman's Old Fashioned. It was stiff and well crafted. For our starter we enjoyed the Foie de Canard "Villa Lorraine". It was a spiced foie gras terrine, port reduction, and kriek granite served with a truffled brioche French toast. For a side, we ordered the poutine, which was fairly different from what I'm used to. This poutine had Roquefort (blue cheese) and green peppercorn jus. I like Roquefort and green peppercorn, but this dish had them in excess. The flavors were intense on this dish. I ate it throughout dinner. The Moules Frites (mussels) were fantastic. We loved the Coquotte version the best. I couldn't believe the giant pile of shells that were left over from this dish. Turns out Chambar gives you 2 pounds of mussels! The smoked bacon lardons on the bottom of the dish make a great snack too. We also had the Fletan aux Petits Pois (Halibut and peas). It was well seasoned and light. For dessert, we had a delectable Chocolate Mousse. Not too sweet and served with a sorbet on a bed of chocolate crumbles and 2 small meringues. I loved everything about Chambar. Chambar throws the best block parties! They are celebrating their fifteen year anniversary with free liege waffles with caramel or chocolate sauce, frites with mayo, and mini sliders. They have a whole pig roasting in a spit all day, and it looks and smells incredible. They have music and a dj, and the vibe is definitely celebratory. We decided to come to Chambar for our Anniversary dinner since we haven't been in a couple of years! We love French food. We didn't get a chance to take pictures of our mussels and dessert, we were just too hungry and they were so delicious ;) I did manage to get photos of our appetizers and cocktails. The service was excellent our server accommodated our toddler which was helpful. Not the best place to bring your child as it is very busy and most people dining are adults. Our larger group had high expectations for dining at Chambar on a Friday night. The restaurant was packed, which is most likely the reason the food wasn't as great as I'd hoped for. We ordered the charcuterie, fromage and the foie gras to start with, and everything was tasty and nicely presented so far. For our mains, we had the mussels in coconut broth, the Arctic char, the braised lamb and the beef short ribs, so a fairly good representation of the entire menu. Everything was a bit lukewarm and all dishes seemed to lack salt. I came here for dine out Vancouver tonight. It was my first time having dinner or a meal here. I did have high expectation as I heard that this was a famous restaurant in Greater Vancouver, so it was a must try restaurant on my list. My reservation was at 5:30pm. A lot of people were having dinner at the restaurant already. Also a lot of people were waiting at the entrance for seats. Servers would take our coats and gave us a number for pickup after dinner. My table had only two of us. Our server was very friendly and professional. He did not talk much or introduce the meals or menus to us. He let us read the menus on our own. I thought he would tell us more about the menus and what was famous or special that we must try. We ordered beef carpaccio and seated tuna for appetizers, mussels with frites and char with Asian/Malaysian sauce as entrees and dark chocolate fudge bar and lime tart for desserts. All of them were above average but none of them were spectacular to me. In terms of flavours, I had better food somewhere else. In terms of presentations, yes, all the dishes had great decorations on food but the food did not make me feel satisfied. What considered as a good dish was that it must be important on colours, smell, flavours and presentations. I could only see colourful food with good presentations but I didn't find smell and flavour that were added more scores to the dishes unfortunately. However, I would enjoy the environment, ambiance and service here. If I would have come back for meals, I would try their brunch and other dishes on their regular menus. read more

Probably our favorite spot during our short trip to Vancouver. And, if I'm being honest, I need to tell you that we hadn't even planned on dining here. Our morning started with a 5 mile run in the cold and rain, and following a defrost and clean-up back at the hotel, we decided a hearty brunch was just the thing. We did our research before leaving the hotel, and headed out to a highly-rated restaurant close-by. The wait was almost 2 hours. We couldn't back out of that place fast enough. Another quick Yelp search, and we were headed in the opposite direction, towards another highly-rated restaurant. They had a line out the door and down the street, and it was pouring rain by that point. Frustrated, hungry, and unwilling to randomly try another spot when the chances of another interminable wait were high, we decided to duck into Chambar (which was three doors down from spot number 2) to see what their wait was like. Though they had a good crowd near the hostess stand, she told us that we could get a table in 15 minutes. Sold! Our table was a low-tabled affair, with me on a cushy couch, and him on a backless, short stool. It didn't matter, though, because it was comfortable, and we were about to get our grub on. First things first, we ordered a couple of lattes. They were delicious, and expertly prepared. They were just the thing to warm you up from the inside out. For brunch, I went with the short rib fricasee, which came with eggs, julienned apples, cheese, onions and potatoes. It sounded like it'd be a hot mess of a plate, but everything blended really well together. The different flavors and textures - which could have clashed - ended up being delicious on the palate. The short ribs were perfectly cooked - tender and flavorful. The eggs and potatoes added a nice heartiness to the cheese and apple. It was quite delicious, and I'm not ashamed to admit I ate the whole dang thing. My husband, meanwhile, ordered the paella, which came with an egg, orzo, chorizo, salsa and cilantro. He couldn't tell me while he was eating it (too busy making yummy noises and chowing down), but later he did say it was an excellent dish. Our waitress was so super sweet and friendly, and never made us wait for refills on water or to clear out plates. It was an accidental find, but one that we enjoyed immensely.
