I was referred by my auto mechanic to talk to Jeff, the long time owner of Champion Transmission. My 08 Ford Fusion was not shifting into 2 gears. I dropped the car off and the next day Jeff was able to explain what the issues were and that they would have to rebuild the transmission and would know more once they were able to see what's going on inside. Jeff is a great guy. I highly recommend him. Knowable and professional. He won't throw parts at a problem. He hooked up his computer but it was giving conflicting readings. After awhile he had his tech check the fluid it was low. He reset my car computer. Took it for a test drive then handed me the keys and said it's fine now. If I have any trouble just bring it back. Jeff diagnosed that second gear was slipping on my 2006 Buick LaCrosse. Knowing that the problem would only get worse I decided to let him overhaul the transmission. The car ran great when the work was completed, but a few weeks later I experienced an ignition problem which affected shifting. I had it repaired, but because the problem affected shifting I mentioned it to Jeff. He did not want me to have any concerns so he asked me to bring the car by for a double check. He ran tests, found no problems, and personally drove the car for a few miles to make absolutely sure it ran perfect. Took my daughter's 2001 Volvo S80 to Jeff since the dash was indicating "service transmission" and it seemed to be shifting weird. Jeff graciously asked me to bring it in to hook it up to his computer and he took it for a test drive. He has the demeanor of your dad (but even better) in his kind and cordial manner. Once he came back, he said it was a problem with the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) and was a minor problem that my local independent Volvo mechanic could fix since it is a special part that a Volvo shop would have readily. He called my mechanic and coordinated the resolution. Jeff didn't charge me anything even though he spent a good 30 minutes of his valuable time helping me. They just don't make honest characters like this anymore but I hope his good manners and integrity serve as an example to those he meets. read more

Saved me $5500.00!!!! I had my 2010 Toyota Tundra towed to the local dealer cause it wouldn't move. The dealer diagnosed and examined the transmission (so they said). The dealer said $6000.00 for a new transmission. I had it towed to Champion Transmission in Thousand Oaks. Jeff stayed late to make sure my truck was safe. After a few days of investigation the problem was confirmed as the Mass Airflow Sensor. All it needed was to be cleaned. Holy crap I could have been out $6000.00. Jeff and the guys are awesome! I took my car in for what I was sure was a nasty transmission problem, but they didn't find anything wrong with it. Jeff (owner) told me what they thought was causing the problem, and I was able to fix it myself. They saved me $$ and a headache! I've been going to Jeff since the late 90s. He has done no less then 5 rebuilds for me and other family members. I had a rebuild on a GM car at 125k and the car went another 100 K and six years before being totaled in an accident. His shop does excellent work. Saved me $3,000! Jeff is extremely knowledgeable and a very straight shooter. I had taken my car to a "national transmission specialist". They charged me $100 for a full diagnostic and declared that I needed a new trans at a cost of $4,500 plus..... I called two other shops and they said the same thing! Being stubborn, I called Jeff and told him the story. He said it is "probably not the trans, just a valve body"!!!! I said what???? After a long conversation, I found him to have solid foundation and good ethics. He got my business and had the part in the same day. The car was repaired the next day. $1,600 and no slipping. My mechanic, whom I have total confidence in, recommended Champion Transmission when I needed work done. I firmly believe quality people only associate themselves with other quality people, and hence felt quite comfortable going to Champion Transmission. Jeff, the owner, has a huge personality, warm, friendly, and very knowledgeable. After listening to my description, he told me that most likely it was the valve and the the transmission, unless the trouble was in the 4th gear. I assured Jeff it was the third gear as I had no problems on the freeway (I thought I had a 4-speed transmission). Jeff hooked his gauge with my on-board computer, and then took the car for a drive. he came back with a gloomy face and said my 4th gear was not functioning and I may need a transmission. I couldn't believe it, till Jeff told me I had a 6-speed transmission. Jeff told me that he still holds out hope that it is the valve and not the transmission, due to the mileage on the car. We discussed the strategy (replacing the valve first, if that doesn't work, then he'll have to open the transmission) and the cost. I told Jeff that the next day was my birthday, and I want my cake and eat it too! at 4PM that afternoon, Jeff texted me, "The fluid looked terrible but minimal debris. Good sign." he was out of stock on the filter and will have to wait for delivery the next day. Needless to say, I was on pin and needles all day on my birthday, till I received a text from Jeff at 1PM that my car was ready for pick up!! I knew there and then that it was just the valve (if it was the transmission, Jeff will need two more days), and I got my $3,000 birthday gift!! If you need transmission work, RUN (don't walk) to Champion Transmission. Tell Jeff that the birthday guy with the Mini Cooper sent you, I am sure he will treat you like a friend, as he did me! Per my earlier review in 2014, he saved me thousands when I heeded his second opinion for only changing a solenoid vs. installing a new transmission as recommended by another mechanic. Thank you Jeff for taking care of me AGAIN. 10 years ago, Champion transmission rebuilt a trans in my work truck. I remembered how satisfied I was with the service then, so when I had an emergency breakdown 200 miles from my home, I had my vehicle towed all the way to Champion (AAA premier service was also great). When Jeff inspected the transmission and reported to me the extent of the damage, I feared the worst in regards to the cost. Long story short, Jeff stayed in touch with me, rebuilt the trans, and for a price less than the dealer quoted me for a rebuilt! This morning my 2004 Volvo S60 dash displayed a message: "Transmission Service Required". My car was/is running fine, but the message displayed surely isn't comforting and I didn't want to ignore the issue (or have it become worse by simply not having it looked at). I called around and searched and wasn't feeling very hopeful that I could find someone in the area that I could trust -- everyone was just so quick to quote me a diagnostic price or seemed very unintelligent about Volvo specifically or didn't seem to want to get to the root cause. Thankfully, I was ultimately referred to Champion Transmission (Jeff). I looked up the business on yelp and saw 5-stars from pretty much everyone. I spoke to Jeff and he agreed that the best thing to do was for me to bring the car in and that he'd check the error codes at no charge. Based on the diagnostic/error codes, he could quote me on the work that would need to be done. Given what I had been hearing all morning when I called other shops, this was music to my ears!! I showed up later in the day, and he checked my car out only to realize that it's not likely a "transmission" specific issue. Rather more likely a communication error within the electrical components of the car that is causing the error to display. He stayed true to his word and didn't charge me a penny. Granted, it only took 15 minutes of his time - but every other shop I had called in the morning was trying to charge me $100+ for the same service that he gladly did for free. And it gets better... Jeff asked if I had a mechanic and I let him know that we recently moved to Simi Valley and I didn't know of anyone locally. He let me know of another business that specialized in Volvo's and provided me with the contacts at this shop along with directions (not far from where Champion Transmissions is). Based on Jeff's reputation and the extremely high quality of service and care that he showed me, I didn't even second-guess his recommendation. I drove straight there (and sure enough, they were AWESOME too and appreciative of Jeff's referral, they too took really good care of me and my car)!! Jeff - It was absolutely a pleasure to meet you. You are not only a true gentleman, but your knowledge and character really put my mind at ease during what is normally a stressful experience. In fact, my experience with you coupled with your humor actually got me to smile and laugh...who knew that was possible when getting your car worked on!! I sincerely appreciate your professionalism, expertise, and commitment to customer service!! The way you conduct yourself and your business is refreshing as you just don't find this kind of service any more, in any industry. I will surely be recommending your shop to others!!
