There really isn't much in the way of good Chinese Food in Bend. As pretty much everyone else has pointed out the portions here are just huge. One entree could easily feed 3 people. It's Americanized Chinese food. I would have loved to give this 5 stars but the reality is that you'll get an enormous amount of OK food, good service and a clean restaurant. It is what it is. If you just have to get Chinese food this will work for you. If you want really good Chinese food you'll need to head south about 8 hours to San Francisco. read more

The food was ok but more of a bistro style rather than authentic chinese. The only veggies used were an abundance of zucchini, carrots, and celery. No bamboo, no baby corn, The sweet and sour sauce was more sweet than sour and lacked pineapple and peppers you would traditionally see in that dish. Got take out last night. The portions were huge and steaming hot! The pork fried rice had minimal veggies, moderate amount of pork and lots of egg. Good portion of sliced BBQ pork on top. The sweet and sour chicken came with the sauce separate which I prefer! The breading wasn't too thick. The chow mein was regular but very fresh. The beef and Broccoli was good but packaged with all the broccoli on the bottom and all the beef on top. The General Tso's chicken was the biggest disappointment because it was sweet and not spicy at all! Overall this place was a winner! $48 for 5 items with humongous serving sizes! Chan's is by far one of the best Chinese restaurants in Bend. Hands down. My personal favorites are the Ginger Cilantro Chicken and Shrimp and the Chicken Pineapple Fried rice. (I'm a snob and ALWAYS ask for white meat.) It's a $1.50 extra by the way. But so worth it. Doesn't hurt that the portions are large enough to feed a small country. read more

One night in Bend. Why not have Chineese? I am so glad we gave Chan's a try. The shrimp, scallop and vegetable dish was fresh and expertly cooked. The shrimp were large and the bay scallops were moist and juicy. Perfect! We ordered the kung pao beef. Nice to see the veggies were different than those in the seafood dish. This is my favorite Chinese food restaurant ever. Yeah I haven't even bothered tried any others in town, but who needs to when you have Chan's? The Szechuan beef is almost brutal hot but amazing, especially on top of a pile of their amazing white rice. And speaking of rice, the pork fried rice is hands down the best fried rice I have ever had. Mothers chicken, or sesame chicken are also some of my favorites. One of our other favorites is the Lo Mein noodles which you can get with any one meat or all the meats together! I got an order the other day and it was alittle light on noodles and surely that's not a complaint because it was so loaded with chicken! Lunch menu is ridiculously cheap and the portions are huge. We had eaten at Chan's Bend in the past but it had been some time so when my wife suggested I pick up dinner there I did not hesitate to give a big affirmative and gave them our order for 2 War Won Ton soups and Sweet and Sour Pork. Now getting into Chan's on a Friday evening around 5 is a challenge in itself coming from the south on 3rd, but I got there and picked up our order with little waiting and got back home. But I have to tell you the quality control on the products we ordered was no where near what we had enjoyed in the past. And the sweet and sour pork was not the sweet and sour pork like I have had there before. We tried eating all the options but in the end the only ones that were happy were the dogs. Now that is a shame. I don't know if that was an anomaly or not. But with the challenge of trying to get into their restaurant with the traffic and the product we received, I do not believe I will will going back. Hope this feedback is useful to Chan's management. I just wanted to write a review of this establishment, my husband, mother and father in law and I ate there September 2011 and I think it has to be the best chinese/ oriental food I've ever eaten out at a restaurant. Service too, was also amazing. We had a fun. quick witted waitress who we loved. We got scared away from Double Happiness (our old standby) by the haters on Yelp, but I'm not sure Chan's is a do over for us. The takeout service was weird. When I called in our order, they took down my name and phone number, but when my husband arrived they didn't have any names on the takeout orders. He ended up with the right thing eventually, but had to text me to find out the number I'd used on the order. The food: Kung Pao Beef - the beef was in strips, which was weird, and although it was very nicely tender it tasted way too much like Sysco beef for me to be able to stomach much of it. Veggie Chow Fun - totally bland. The noodles are fat fresh rice noodles, which I love, but there was no discernible sauce! Just a clear corn starch pudding over the veggies. Gross. Black Bean Tofu and Green Beans - the best of what we got, but still not a stand out. Also, there was a hair in it. I'm not one to make a fuss about hairs in food - I know accidents happen. But it seems to happen with some regularity at Chan's (if the reviews are to be believed). If someone else's DNA in your food skeeves you out, be warned. Overall, a total meh for us. We'll probably risk Double Happiness next time we are in the mood for Chinese takeout. read more

We had lunch here today. My husband had black pepper pork lunch combo. I had clay pot noodles with chicken. We shared pot stickers. Both lunches came with either sweet & sour or egg flower soup. We had egg flower. From the frosted glass of ice tea that we ordered to the soup, both lunches and the pot stickers, this was some of the best chinese food that we've had anywhere. This restaurant is a keeper. Also, our waiter, How was wonderful. He was so nice and attentive without being intrusive. If I could give more stars, I'd do it! read more

I've been going to Chan's for years, and their food has always been great. Not so last night. I ordered Yu Xiang Pork, which is always spicy-hot. This was as bland as it could possibly be. My husband had a shrimp noodle stir-fry - the noodles were definitely NOT STIR-fried, who knows what they were! Appallingly mediocre. I've never liked this place but then I have limited choices since I don't eat red meat or pork. My Husband has been a fan in the past, but tonight we called it fini after tasteless mushu vegetables consisting of primarily cabbage (and not nearly enough hoisin sauce and pancakes for the amount of mushu), green beans in bland black bean sauce, and creepy eel-like (mushy) chicken & green beans in more bland black bean sauce. I don't know why we continue to waste our money here--sheer longing for some tasty ethnic food I guess, and seriously poor memories. Chans excels at quantity over quality, so if you can manage to finish one plate of bleck you won't be comforted to know you will have many meals of lame, unappealing leftovers ahead. Save your Chinese food longings for the big city and your money for Bend's other decent eateries. Chans isn't one of them. A big disappointment. read more
