Spacious, fast and friendly. I stopped in for the first time and got the Hanoi egg coffee. You know it's good when even the workers are drinking it. Very tasty and has a nice thick creamy mouth feel...from the egg cream Also hilariously I understand why people call it the uncle hang out spot. Had such a great experience at Chao Cafe! The Uber Coffee and Panda's Coffee were both so good, and the waffles were delicious--fresh, crispy, and full of flavor. Everything was nicely made and tasted amazing. Definitely a great place to grab coffee and a sweet treat. Highly recommend! read more

This place is yummy! Went on a busy day so there was a 25 minute wait, but it was worth it! Sarah was so nice and pretty (hi Sarah hope you're reading this) and gave me really good recommendations! The coco matcha is sweet and equally creamy. I feel that this coconut water actually came from a coconut because there is pulp and some parts of the coconut in the drink. Rating: 3.2/5 We came with a group of 10, so I was surprised they had a table large enough for all of us. The café is pretty spacious and has games you can play which is a nice touch. They have a lot of drinks with unique combos, but unfortunately the ones we ordered didn't work out for us. I wouldn't recommend the matcha here, but I might be open to trying their coffee next time. Passion Fruit Matcha ($7): Of course my husband got this since it combines two of his favorite flavors. I've heard great things about the pandan coffee here & one of my favorite coffee flavors . I'll be honest though, I like the one at Sip Sip Munch better. Don't get me wrong, the Veitnamese coffee was delicious and strong , but the pandan flavor was not there.It honestly just tasted like cream. I did mix it, which helped balance things out, but then the coffee wasn't as bold. I actually preferred it without the pandan. It could've just been an off day, so I'd definitely be open to giving it another try. The space itself is huge, and they have games and activities you can play, which is a nice touch. Chao Cafe absolutely has the best Vietnamese Iced-Coffee in Austin! This Coffee shop specializes in Vietnamese Iced-Coffee and has the best tasting (and very strong) coffee I've ever had. Aesthetically designed coffee shop and spacious. Plenty of room for everyone to come enjoy coffee and socialize. Service here is always friendly and speedy. I got an oat milk latte with pandan foam, it was a classic strong Vietnamese coffee that was great and perked me up. I do wish that the pandan flavor came through a little stronger because when mixed with the coffee I could barely taste it, but on its own, it had a slight taste of pandan. The service was fine, the waitress was very attentive to the ingredients in my order and straightforward about which drinks would be best for someone trying to watch their dairy intake. The only thing I wish would have happened was being greeted, though I was one of four people in the cafe (there was another customer, the person in the kitchen, and the waitress) and said hi three times, I was met with a stare until I began my order. Again, the waitress was attentive when it came to my drink, she didn't really say much which made it feel less welcoming. As for ambiance, it basically feels like the old Bambu, which was nice, since it was chill and had fun music, but the music kept changing at the halfway point of each song, which I thought was odd and ended up just putting in my headphones Good place to work outside of that! read more

Typical Viet coffee shop. They're located in the My Thanh market area which is very convenient if you wanna stop by. The space inside is so big with lots of tables to sit at. I got the Hanoi Egg Coffee and it was good. It kind of just tastes like every other Viet coffee you can get anywhere, nothing special. I heard Sip Munch is better though. read more

This place used to be Bambu. I came right when they opened, so no one was there yet. The inside looks the same from when Bambu was here. Tons of tables and open space to sit back and enjoy your drink. Service was quick. I was also the first customer of the day. I ordered the Pandan Coffee. It looks like they use Pandan Milk instead of foam like other places. It lacks the Pandan flavor, but the Vietnamese coffee flavor is there. This place used to be Bambu but is now under the name Chao Cafe. Upon entering, the interior is very much the same as the prior establishment. Same furniture, just a new name. They offer a variety of drinks and desserts. I've tried their pandan coffee and hanoi coffee so far. The pandan is unique because you can taste a hint of (artificial) pandan. It's nice if you want a different variation from the standard Vietnamese coffee. The hanoi coffee is good but too sweet for me, but that's to be expected with the egg coffee. The prices are a bit on the high side. Otherwise would love to come here more often for their drinks. The space is large with plenty of seats. Parking isn't a problem since it's located in a strip mall. read more

Brand new Asian coffee/boba spot! This used to be Bambu. I was shocked by how many people came in to order while we were waiting because I only found out about it through an Austin foodie influencer's page. Their coffee is pretty good. My boyfriend and I love Vietnamese coffee, so we each tried their pandan and ube. Both were creamy and quite strong, but we did wait a really long time for our drinks. LOVE their pandan coffee! I have had coffee with pandan foam but this is more so like a pandan latte which I didn't think I'd enjoy more than a pandan foam but this drink is so good! I like that the color *isn't* alarmingly green like other Pandan drinks I've had (they probably have too much dye). Pandan paired with strong Vietnamese coffee is a nice balance. At one point the brought some hot baked dessert (looked like a whole coffee cake) out the oven and it smelled like heaven. The bad: Nothing vegan or healthy, not even pre-made cold sandwiches or packaged salads. If you are a little peckish for a healthy snack, this is not the place. The coffees: They have all the regular espresso drinks, and also Turkish coffee and of course Yemeni, their specialty. I had heard great things about Yemeni coffee and was exciting to try it. My first drink, a traditional coffee drink called Jubani ($6) contained coffee but was watery like a tea. It had also ginger and cinnamon. I was not expecting it to be like a tea. I immediately told the cashier I didn't like the drink and would like just an Americano, double shot espresso. I was charged $9 for a 12 oz cup. No cream or sugar, no added flavorings. If I were in charge I wouldn't have charged for this second drink, since it comes at almost zero cost to them and would show good faith and ensure repeat business. Disappointingly, the Americano was also watery and sort of "lemony", but I still drank half while sitting with my friend. I'll say that my friend had some sort of an iced latte that she enjoyed. I might try a second visit and order a Turkish coffee, but I will make sure to have had a full meal before.

My recommendation to the staff would be to amplify the syrup flavoring just a tiny bit more on their special drinks. Other than that things are great!

We had a reservation at 8 am right when they opened, and when we walked in, we were seated immediately. The place looks like a modern twist on the old-school diners your grandparents love. There's also an upstairs and downstairs patio. Plenty of space! We were sat at one of the two-person tables. To start, I ordered their house drip coffee while my girlfriend got their "Lil Remi," an iced cappuccino with salted caramel. The black coffee was excellent and flavorful, while my girlfriend thought her Lil Remi was like a milkier shaken espresso that she really liked. From their starters, we ordered their Blueberry Lemon Pop Tart to share. I am a sucker for a homemade Pop Tart, and the jam on the inside was extremely fresh, and the icing and crust of the Pop Tart itself was sturdy and full of flavor. For our entrees, I ordered their Texas Hash with added avocado while my girlfriend ordered their famous Paperboy Pancake with chocolate chips as a full breakfast with bacon and two over-hard eggs. The Texas hash looked great and was presented quite nicely, which is a shame because I immediately proceeded to mash it all together to make sure every bite had a perfect balance of the roasted pork, sweet potatoes, egg, and avocado. It was very filling and substantial, which is great because I needed it to last me up to dinner. The pancake is the star of the show and is worth the order alone. The flying saucer they serve rises like a cake in the oven and is extremely fluffy. She was surprised with how it was a traditional pancake but loved how moist it was for its size. A perfect pancake to her. A perfect pancake to me because she couldn't finish it, so I took it to go and ate the last few bites immediately after dropping her off at the airport. For being an upscale diner in the prime area of Austin, I knew Paperboy was going to be pricey, but I honestly thought that it would crack $100 before tip between the two of us. I was very happy to see it was not even close to that and cost us about $80 with tip. To me, that felt fair for Austin, and I would pay that price any day of the week for a breakfast like we had. I've had a few of the locally owned brunch and breakfast spots in Austin and concur with the masses that this sits strongly at the top of the list. Best pancakes, best atmosphere, and the best times.
