My wife order the Prime Rib which was mouth watering- she likes it prepared medium and it was perfect with a delicious and steaming hot baked potatoe. Food was amazing but does add up quickly. We had the fried green tomatoes and mussels for appetizers. I've never had fried green tomatoes before but the sauce that came with it was stunning. Got the duck and my fiancé got the ribeye for the entree. Steak was seasoned out of this world. Duck wasn't bad, definitely had worse and had better. The service was great and prompt, quite polite. A nice table which ended up being better than a booth in this case. The menu was full of different, interesting choices. One thing they have, which no one has, as good as them, is onion rings. OMG. We did request a high chair and it was at the table waiting for us. The table ordered drinks and some appetizers. Our table had the Char Old Fasioned, Summer Sangria, and Voodoo Lady! The summer sangria was good but it wasn't sweet as most sangrias. We also had the Crab Claws and the Nola BBQ Shrimp. The crab claws were so delish! We probably should have ordered two of the crab claws. The nola bbq shrimp was good, but I guess we were expecting something a little different than a smaller version of a shrimp and grits dinner portion! For dinner we ordered ribeye, filets, and prime rib! We were very surprised that each steak is served with a potato, that's very unheard of at steakhouses now a days! Something that would bring us back again! Everyone also had salads. The wedge salad was SO good! Each steak was cooked just as everyone had ordered and very delish! The Seafood carbonara was so flavorful and creamy. Great portion of seafood as well. The steak frites was good (got mine medium rare), juicy and tender cut and it comes with fries. Just went there for the first time tonight and will absolutely be back. My date and I got the calamari and truffle fries as sides to share and both were incredible. I was incredibly shocked because they were both only 10 dollars and the portion sizes were huge. I got a ribeye (the 16 oz) and she got the dusted redfish. The fish was shockingly good, but it was really elevated after I squeezed a bit of lemon on it. I'm not a seafood guy but definitely a 10/10, it was incredible. Onto my ribeye. This was one of the best things I've tasted hands down. It was cooked beautifully, the char/sear/whatever you wanna call really elevated it for me. It made the steak look incredibly appealing and gave it this beautiful crust. To be honest I kind of expected it to be a bit tougher with such a well developed crust, but it was so so tender. The balance between seasoning and the juices of the steak was incredible, and I had to force myself to share it with my date and our friends (we were in a party of 6 so we shared pretty much everything.) not only that but our server was awesome. I don't remember his name but he was incredibly humorous and professional at the same time! Additionally, the atmosphere was really awesome, I'm not a big fan of dressing up but i had a formal to go to tonight and having such a great dinner spot with awesome food and service really put me in a better mood. My bill for my date and I was around 150 and some change, it was worth every penny. Seriously every penny. Being a broke high school kid, I'm not usually very eager to part with my money but the food and the service was something I'd pay double for without batting an eye. The only downside to this place was that they charge a 20% gratuity (no problem at all) but they didn't leave any where for me to leave a tip on either copies. I didn't have any cash and I was just so impressed all around that I wanted to leave a nice tip, but where the option is on the bill usually they just had a printout adding a gratuity fee to the bill. Came to brunch with my sister. They had both a brunch and lunch menu. Plenty of options, it was hard to choose, great problem to have. We both also had mimosas and a cup of gumbo, not pictured. The gumbo was very flavorful, I love spicy so I added Tabasco to mine. I had the cornbread dusted red fish. The fish was light and beautifully prepared, the sauce on top paired well with the spinach and cheese grits. My sister had the steak and blue salad, which she said was very delicious. Went to Char today with my partner, and it was such a phenomenal experience. I'll start with the most meaningful side of the experience- the service. Justin was our bartender and he was an absolute delight. Both the conversation and his ability to make a great cocktail were appreciated. The food was great as well! We ordered a house salad and the steak frites and those were cooked to perfection. Combine all of this with the beautiful atmosphere of the establishment and you truly have a winning mix. First time coming here; it was a pretty good experience. The waiter was pretty attentive and the ambience was nice. I had the gumbo and the salmon, the gumbo was amazing and the salmon was a bit salty but it was good and I loved the broccoli rabe; my sister got the cornbread red snapper and that was so good! The crab cakes are also great, super meaty and yummy. One of our party was pregnant and got sick but they handed it super well and I'm so glad they didn't make a huge deal about it. Last night my Foodie Buddy and I went to Char Restaurant. when we entered we were warmly greeted and seated immediately. The menu offers a variety of dishes that include some Cajun flavors along with an interesting mix of ingredients. We started with a couple of beers from Grayton Beer Company called 30A Beach Blonde Ale. This is a slightly sweet Ale but very crisp and refreshing, I will be searching for a six-pack of this beer for the weekend! When asked if you would like bread...say yes. The warm baguette with soft butter is really good! Appetizer: There's a lot to choose from here and you could design a meal just around appetizers. We shared an order of Crab Claws and I must say TOP 5 of appetizers I have enjoyed! You can get them fried or sautéed or a mix which is what we ordered. Now the fried are good...but the sautéed are incredible so I would recommend ALL sautéed. Don't be shy...scoop some of the seasoning on the little claw and enjoy. You'll get a slight amount of heat, but the combination of seasonings with the oil is exquisite. While the rest of dinner was exceptional, I could have done a couple of orders of these with a beer and considered Char to be Heaven on Earth when it comes to appetizers! Dinner: We selected the Tuna Nicoise...a salad that has crisp baby greens, PERFECTLY seared Ahi Tuna, artichoke hearts, tomato, egg, haricot verts, capers, with a honey white balsamic dressing. OK...it's a salad BUT hands down the BEST salad I have ever enjoyed. The Ahi Tuna filets could have been a meal all to themselves they were that good! The 8oz Filet with a green peppercorn sauce, jumbo lump crab cake, and a loaded baked potato was so darn good. The steak was cooked perfectly and the seared butter crust helped this steak to melt in your mouth. Adding a dollop of the green peppercorn sauce really put this steak over the top and is highly recommended. The crab cake didn't have a bunch of fillers, mayo, seasoning, or sauces...just pure jumbo crab meat with some herbs and a drizzle of lemon tarragon butter. This was one of the best crab cakes I have had in a very long time and it paired well with the steak! Unfortunately there was no room for dessert but they have some yummy looking offerings. Fried green tomato was not crisp on the outside, bacon was limp, biscuit was soft but nothing special, but the worst is the overcooked poached egg (not runny at all when you broke into it) and hardly any hollandaise sauce on top so the entire dish came out dry and did not arrive hot; the side of mixed fruit was not fresh and chilled properly, literally it was like someone chopped up leftover melon into tiny pieces to make it look like a proper side of mixed fruit). Second when you walk through the door you are immediately welcomed! We sat in the lounge area to listen to the piano player instead of our assigned reservation table in the main dining room. (And no, I don't know who dynamited Griff's twice in the 1960s-70s. Some folks on the HHS FB page claim to know, but whatever.) All of that said, we had some perfect steaks tonight on a first visit three blocks from home. Nicki and I don't often order steak, but for a special occasion, we each chose NY strip cuts. Nicki is a cookbook author and editor. She told the waiter exactly what degree she would want for her boeuf, and I asked him to bring my strip at the same temp. All of the food was pretty good except the Pecan Pie and it was amazing! I would go back for dessert or get this dessert to go because it was absolutely phenomenal! Disappointing experience. Not sure how Char has a 4 star but this was one of the most disappointing dining experiences we have had in Nashville since December 2021 when we moved here. We were seated outside at 5:15 since the bar was full. It took 15 minutes for the server and the waiter he was training to come take our order- way too long. We were the only ones seated outside at that time. He mentioned one of the specials was beef carpaccio- which we really like- so we ordered that. It came out in a reasonable amount of time and I grabbed my fork and reached in to the middle of the plate to grab a thin piece of steak and......it was frozen stiff! The entire middle of the $19.00 appetizer was frozen. We waited another 15 minutes for our server to come back and ask about it and get our dinner order but he was a no show- so I grabbed a random waiter who was serving a couple at a table behind us and told him our carpaccio was frozen and take it back and please let our server know. He was pleasant and did so. Another 10 minutes passed- no apology or check in from our server and his trainee. He arrived with another plate of the carpaccio and said "it shouldn't be frozen so we re-plated it". What?!? That is the worse excuse for a screw up I have ever heard. No apology or we will Make it right. Re-plate. I tried it and it was not good- tasted like day old roast beef. And remember it was re-plated. That was the "solution" the server gave us. On a positive note, we ordered the red fish sandwich and steak salad and both were cooked (not frozen!!). However mid meal the server came by and asked if I needed anything and I asked for a side of ranch because the fries were good and that sounded good. Guess what? He never brought it or his trainee. Came by with the check and didn't even mention it. He completely forgot an easy request and he was "training". Reminder - it was about 6:30 and Char- in Green Hills was not crowded or full. We paid and gave a tip that was representative of the service we received. Some of the worst and most uncaring service we have received in Nashville. Char - Green Hills - is not worth trying if you haven't tried it yet. Don't bother. There are too many steakhouses that are better. I rated Longhorn- Brentwood much higher. Give it a try- good service and steaks are always cooked perfectly-and not frozen. Hello Manager- if you want more details on our experience- let me know and I will be happy to talk to you directly. A favorite for brunch!! An excellent menu, but one must try some of their Cajun dishes. We love to get the crab claws sautéed, crab Benedict, croque madame, chicken biscuit, creole sauté, and the mimosas. Tried this place once and got to sit outside on a beautiful day, and came back on my birthday for brunch again and sat in the bar/lounge area. A jazz band was playing and it was so special. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was beautiful, and we had a nice time. The biggest highlight was the waitress we were honored to have. I believe her name was Anne or Anna I can't remember but she's tall, slim with a boot currently on her foot. She was such a delight!!! I trusted her recommendations and she was spot on so much that I told her when I do come back, I'd allow her to just put food in front of me. lol Shes so witty and just has a genuine soul.
