Service was good for the 1st bit, but then our server got busy with other guests. Another server, AJ, stepped up and filled in. He did an excellent job. Another new spot to check off my list. Loved that they had a free parking garage with an elevator to the floor of where the restaurants are. The sauteed crab claws reeled me in. We came for dinner on a Saturday nite and had about 10 min wait before we got seated so it wasn't bad for us not to have reservations. Once we got seated we sat for a good 5-8 minute before we was acknowledged and was given water. It was a slow start and it wasn't just us. After we got our water our waiter went to take care of other tables and then he came back to ask us for drinks. Then took a little bit to get our drinks and then he took our order. I just felt like the service was on the slow side. We ordered the sauteed crab claws and they were deliciously full of flavors with a tad of spice and the cocktail sauce was so good!! I ordered the redfish and i wasn't too impressed with my entree. It just didn't go together. Also we had the seafood carbonara and that was good. Overall it was an ok experience. There are also so many in the order. The okra and fried green tomatoes were perfect as well. We had dinner at Char before my nail appointment at a nearby salon. Everything was amazing. I had a delicious sparkling rose and my husband had a red blend. We started with the pork rinds, which were crispy and came with a yummy dipping sauce. I ordered the steak frites and I have to thank the server for letting us know that it comes with a lot of fries - we almost ordered more, which we did not need! My husband devoured his entire steak, even though he didn't think he would when we sat down. It was too good to stop eating. Ordered the holiday takeout special for Xmas Eve: roasted Ashley Farm airline chicken breasts, creamed spinach and chipotle sweet potatoes. Everything was fabulous. I was a little unsure about the chipotle sweet potatoes since I really like "traditional" (non-spicy) yams but while these were unique they were also very very good with a slow burn. The packaging including a supplied broil-foil-type disposable (or re-usable) roasting pan which made traveling with the whole spread and preparing it on Xmas Day easy breezy. The service was poor and food was mediocre and plated terribly. I was highly disappointed in my experience at Char in Nashville. The waitress forgot about my order multiple times. Good location in Green Hills with plenty of off street parking. Walked in and sat in bar without a wait at 5 pm. Typical bar vibe. We ordered the Sea Bass, it was to come with "blistered shishito peppers with baby bok choy " which I couldn't find. Asparagus was served instead. At 43.00 I think the server could have said something. Overall the dish was meh, bok choy and peppers would not have helped. read more

Fantastic food, service and atmosphere! We enjoyed Char so much we had dinner there 3 consecutive nights! So many menu and drink options for any appetite. In addition to excellent food - sitting in the bar area with the piano made it super relaxing too. Angie was our server the first 2 nights (Lexie tonight) and they really made the evening fun and had great recommendations for drinks, main courses and dessert. Visited Char for the first time last night. We eat at their sister restaurant Amerigo quite often and love the food and service there. Char service did not meet our expectations! Our server appeared to have 2 tables at the time but we had to ask a different server just to get drink refills. He was just absent! The bar was quite busy but the dining room was dead! There were 4 tables of customers the whole time we were there! Food was very good except the bread which was so hard we could barely saw it apart! Salads were fresh and nice. Steaks were good except not quite cooked to temperature. But the server wasn't around to have them cooked properly!Pecan pie was delicious! Seriously need to work on service though as I'd hate to be there when it's busy! read more

I wish Yelp! had ten stars because Char deserves it all. The customer service at the place was just amazing. Our server was Jeremy and he kind of looked like Jeremy Renner. It took everything in my soul to ask him what really happened in Budapest. He provided excellent recommendations and made the visit worth it. The food was amazing. I had the Pork Chop that had a Cognac based sauce and it was one of the best chops I have ever had. I would recommend they put that sauce on their delicious mashed potatoes. I did it myself and my tastebuds were having a party. Oh yeah the No Filler Crab Cakes were good. I am used to having some filler in my crab cakes, so that was a new experience for me. I needed a little more seasoning, but it might be good for others. I'm from the Lowcountry and I like my seafood with a little more seasoning. Char is an amazing restaurant. I mean everything that came out from the kitchen looked amazing. It gives you steakhouse vibes with excellent menu options. I want to try all of their sandwiches and burgers. Welp! Y'all take care! Came here on a double date and all 4 of us left so full and so happy! The Wedge salad starter was so good, we were sad when it was finished, but truly just the right size. We did The crab claws half fried half grilled and loved both varieties. It is such a unique appetizer and did not disappoint! We each ordered a different type of steak, Ribeye, New York Strip, and Filet. They were cooked to perfection and came with a loaded potato or you could substitute for something else. Hubby and I share everything and decided to make our own, "surf and turf" (of course) & so we got the Redfish as well. It was also cooked to perfection and tasted very fresh. We each had a pre-meal cocktail and then ordered a Justin Cab Sauv from Napa and had it decanted (of course!) It went supremely well with everything. Dessert sounded fabulous but we were so full, already taking home leftovers, we literally couldn't eat another bite. Next time tho, because we WILL be back! Food was great and my family and I have been coming here for years. We decided to go for a birthday celebration, ordered steak, a bottle of wine, apps, etc., spending about $250 total. At the end we asked for extra ice cream on the side with our dessert which the server nicely brought out. When we received the bill, we saw there was $4.50 charge for the extra scoop of ice cream. We asked the server about it and he said he'd take it off which was really nice. However right after that, someone who looked like the manager came to us and asked what the problem was. We explained we didn't know the extra ice cream would be an additional cost. He was very rude to my family and I and made it a point to explain that an extra scoop would be extra the next time we came there. We were celebrating a birthday, already spent so much on food and drinks, and the manager has an issue over $4.50? It was so tacky and the way he approached it while we were enjoying the dessert was ridiculous. It's not like char gives any dessert for birthdays either, we were aware of that and ready to pay for the dessert we ordered but it seemed so unnecessary to come at our table and be rude over the extra ice cream. This honestly ruined our experience and we've been going for years. Will now think twice before coming again. read more

Benn to Amerigo and Jasper and really wanted to try Char. Went for brunch - superlative! James L was our server, my favorite kind of staff. Attentive without being obtrusive. The Char Old Fashioned and Char Manhattan (our go-to drinks) were amazing. Huge drinks made with top shelf spirits. So good. My wife had the steak Benedict - I had the grits bowl with seafood. She like the Benedict but would rather have had mine! It was so tasty - lots of flavors all mixed up and just so tasty. Pleasantly surprised. Not what I expected for G Hills. There is free valet or free garage parking; just a bit of a hike. We made reservations for a part of 6 and table was ready when we arrived. However, it took quite a few minutes to be greeted. For our appetizers, we ordered the crab claws, fried green tomatoes, and mussels. The mussels were a little fishy and our least favorite. But the fried green tomatoes was good - tart, firm tomatoes with a little little cornmeal batter, perfectly fried without being greasy. The crab claws were a buttery goodness and the cocktail sauce was a perfect compliment - great for sharing. I initially ordered the prime rib, but was informed a little bit later that it was sold out. Was recommended the steak frites; but a bit apprehensive. It was surprisingly really good, the cuts weren't too small and was cooked perfectly medium rare with just the right seasoning. The chipotle sweet potato mash was the best thing I ate. My only complaint is that I wanted a big serving! Has a good first experience overall, dying to come back for the sweet potatoes. read more

Hostess was extremely rude when I put our name in for the "45 minute wait" so we decided to eat at the restaurant directly across and see if chars outdoor seating area was indeed fully booked. And what do you know, there were at least 4 tables open the entire time we were enjoying our meal at the adjacent restaurant.
