In no way is my knowledge of this place complete. However. Its diveyness is pleasant. Its overhead conversations range from Animal-housey to blatantly nerdy. Its chicken fingers are delicious and come with a curiously good house-made honey ranch sauce. And they have an appetizer section on the menu... followed by an entire other section devoted to potato skins. The classic bacon-cheddar-sour cream version approaches the Platonic ideal. Happy hour is decently priced but waitresses were not happy. The pub was out of many foods and the chili was unappetizingly sweet, but a friend ordered a huge nacho tray and was entirely pleased with the expanse and quality of said nacho trough. $3 is too much for a can of PBR, though. read more

It's a solid local, with outside seating. Go there on a weekend night, and you'll meet some friendly people, and probably my friend Steve. The place is nice and the bathrooms are pretty clean, which is a plus. There's a pinball machine here too, which is definitely worth playing after you've consumed enough that playing pinball seems like a great idea. CVP does the little things, and does them well! I usually stop in during football season where they have multiple games going all around the bar in strategic locations. I've been to both the cvp in Charles village and the one in Towson. The one in Towson is much better than this one in almost every facet. Not saying that this one is bad, but it's a little smaller and the service and food weren't as good as Towson either. If I were to go again, I would just grab drinks as the table service wasn't great. read more

I have been here many times. It's close to my house, and for some reason, I have a few friends who consider this a stand-by establishment. I have no idea why they do. There is absolutely nothing about this place that I would call memorable. It attracts mostly Hopkins students and a few folks from the Charles Village area. The interior decor is like any standard sports bar. They have pictures of old athletes, a bunch of TVs, and that's about all. The place is enormously loud when there are more than 30 people in it. It has an OK draft selection. A few locals, the normal factory breweries, and several smaller craft brews. The prices are slightly too high. The specials are blah. The food is extremely average. They have wings. Again, I have friends that swear by them. But I can't say they are impressive at all. The bar food is just what you'd expect from a place like this, and the prices are on par with the average Baltimore sports bar. I recently found out that this place had NFL Sunday Ticket. As a Bengals fan, I was happy to find this out. I recently went in to watch Cincy and found the bar nearly empty -- there were plenty of TVs that nobody was watching. The bartender asked me what game I wanted to see. I told her I wanted the Bengals, and she very rudely said, "Sorry, all the TVs are taken." I felt like Forrest Gump on the bus as the patrons stared at me with contempt. I know this place is on the East Coast, and Ravens reign supreme, but at least the bartender could be polite. I have spent enough money at this dump to deserve that, right? Also, when the bar is that empty, it might not hurt to just humor the outsider and turn one TV to the game they want. I keep coming back because of its atmosphere: sometimes cheery and loud but not noisy, sometimes quiet but not empty. I've only had the bar food which was pretty good, service was always good, and it's at a great location in the middle of Charles Village with plenty of on-street parking to boot. read more

This is a straight up bar with BAR food. No pretentious and horrendously overpriced menu items that are all "locally sourced and organic" fluff. You know what to expect when you walk into CVP. CVP fills a much needed void in the Charles Village area, which is that of the neighborhood bar. If you want trendy, hip, organic, whatever, CVP is not for you. If you just want a pint and some wings without having to break the bank, this place hits the spot. read more

Waitress was great but she kept eating her boogers when she thought no one was looking. It was weird. She was great though, and the food was exceptional for the atmosphere. There's a difference between petty and legitimate refusal of service. My partner and I came in tonight to CVP for some tasty food and beer but was met with petty refusal by the servers. It was due to my partner's past of coming here and becoming wrongfully associated with an unsavory person, she went as far as apologizing on his behalf and ensuring that the server received a fair tip. A second involved my partner getting yelled at by one of the servers (who was here tonight) for a simple error, but hey, who cares about customer service? Tonight, was what took the cake, those events happened way over a year ago and who would've thought that the servers would still have a chip on their shoulder? Let me go over the events: First, we asked the bartender if we could sit at a table, he was great and said there was no problem with us sitting at a table. One of the servers (a white woman with brown hair) came to our table, took our napkins and silverware, and automatically refused us service due to 'a rude letter' that was written by my partners friend (the letter was about how horribly my partner was treated by the server (the server in question who my partner apologized for a former friends' behavior)). I couldn't take that. That was awful. I had to also stand up for my partner over such pettiness. I work in the food industry and I've heard all the legitimately *awful* things customers do to servers... Like from outright dehumanizing experiences (either sexist, racist, combination thereof) but THIS is not one of those moments. Our saving grace was our bartender turned server, he came to our table, talked to us, and assured us that he would do what he can to make sure this doesn't happen again. He was amazing and considerate, it turned our night from a potential nightmare to a nice night with good drinks and all around good food. I scarfed my veggie and cheese and I took some secret bites of my partners crab dip, the dip was noms! She wrote a compassionate letter to the servers hoping that they see that she just wants to have a decent, uninterrupted, experience, she's truly sorry about what had happened in the past but that doesn't excuse the CONSTANT awful treatment she keeps receiving. Thank you to our bartender (Jason! Thank you, you're amazing!) for being a great sport, responsive, attentive, and considerate to our situation. We hope to come back to CVP on a more regular basis and to make amends to move towards a better future. read more

Aweful. I had lived in the area for years and only now decided to check this pub out. It sucks. It took an hour to get a lousy cheeseburger. Are you kidding me? Not once did the waitress apologize or ask if I wanted anything else. On top of that, the burger came with store chips. The Guinness was watered down. Is this a joke? Avoid this crappy place. This place is a go-to if you are in the neighborhood. Come here if you want to watch sports on tv in a busy, but welcoming atmosphere or if you want to grab a quick bite to eat with friends. The atmosphere can at times be a little loud as many college students and locals come to hang out, but I have never had a bad experience. The food on the menu can be described as typical bar food - sandwiches, burgers, wings, but they are quite tasty! The potato skins are a favorite of mine! There are a variety of them - Chili/Nacho/Jalapeno, Bacon/Cheddar and Broccoli/Cheddar. All of them are so so good. You have to try them all haha! There is plenty of room to sit whether at the bar, in a booth or at a table outside. Plenty of street parking too. Another added bonus is you can come in and pick up a quick 6-pack or other alcohol to go if you are in a bind and don't want to overspend your budget at Eddie's Liquors, for example. As far as local inexpensive bars go, this is probably as good as it gets. I've been a regular here since the past 4 years and the service was always always courteous and friendly. Never rude. Sure, on a busy night, the waitress might forget an item of your order or might delay your food. But which bar does that not happen in? The food is great for bar food. If you live in Charles Village, you go here. Plain and simple. Typical neighborhood pub but with really great food. Monday nights are half price munchies and is when I tend to go. Hubby is hooked on the old bay wings and I love the chicken tenders. One thing you should know is that this place is buzy as all hell but regardless, food comes out pretty quickily. The mixed drinks are hit or miss depending on who is making them. The owner HUGELY upped the price of cocktails, so I now go to Donna's for my drinks as long islands made from rail drinks should NEVER cost $7.50. The local crowd has been becomming slightly taken over by hopkins kids, so I don't go here nearly as much as I used to. read more

This is my favorite bar in Baltimore! I enjoy an everybody knows your name bar experience full of reasonably priced beer, sports, and food. CVP has all of this and more! The service is always fast and attentive. Happy hour is Monday- Friday 4:30-6. They have half priced apps, two for one wine and rail drinks as well as .50 off draft beer. A guinness costs $5 and so does a crown and coke. They have other specials, but I don't keep up with them. The game is always on. There is no reason not to try it out. The female manager is unfriendly and unhelpful. Bartenders charge the credit card for tabs no matter what the customer asks. In my case, I asked that the card NOT be charged but it still was so CVP got double the money for the mistake on their part. The moral of the story is make sure you scrutinize your bill because the staff cannot be trusted to do the right thing and the management will not help when approached. read more
