The food is usually ok, but not great. I've had great service and bad service, it just depends who your server is.

Pleasantly surprised by how great Charleston's is. It had been on my list to try for some time but I wasn't sure what to expect. The outside of the restaurant looks a little on the older side but the inside is very nice. It is dimly lit with an intimate, yet casual feel. My friends and I ordered the cream spinach and artichoke dip which is a hit, we couldn't stop snacking! I ordered the grilled chicken avocado club and it was delicious. It doesn't reheat well so I really wish I had finished it all in one sitting but I highly recommend nonetheless. Another plus, are their drinks so if you're in the mood for a little buzz ask your waiter for cocktail suggestions. read more

The food, when prepared correctly, was amazing. I say that, as our appetizer had guacamole in it, after ordering it without. They have different people stop at the table, a woman who was filling my water thought she'd be nice to point out I could order without the Guac after seeing me pick it all out. I told her that I had, they just made it wrong, and she laughed. The waiter later said he realized he put the order in wrong, but never did anything. I hadn't complained, it wasn't a huge deal, but having that interaction stuck out in my head. The seats were hard and uncomfortable. Prices were fair for the food quality. We had ribs and a specialty burger. The bathroom, while looking clean, had some weird film on the floor, making it very slippery, I almost fell just walking in it was so slick. Service was also slow, took about 40 minutes to get out food. Waiter at one point started to take our order, stopped me midsentence, and said "oops, I forgot, I was in the middle of taking their order," and walked to a different table. read more

Charleston's has been a staple for my husband and I when we wanted to go somewhere special but didn't want to navigate downtown. We hadn't been since before the pandemic, but we returned last week when my mum was visiting from England. I'm happy to say we received the same great dining experience as we have come to expect from Charleston's. I didn't see their croissants on the menu which are a MUST have - so light they melt in your mouth! This hidden gem is located very close to Community Hospital North/ Indiana Surgery Center. I came the other day, while my brother was in recovery from surgery. This place was recommended by some of the hospital staff for great hospitality and comfort food I was so happy to stop by as I have been starving all day. This place has a casual ambiance with modern priced menu. It also has a friendly and family vibe to it. I sat at the bar to order my food. I was service by bartender-Matthew, he was very friendly and gave me great recommendations for food. I started my meal with their moscato. It was light and fruity. I ordered their Chicken Piccata. It had fresh tomatos and asparagus. I love that I can taste the lemon capers and their butter sauce was all over my angel hair pasta. The chicken was cooked to my liking. It was soft, tender and still juicy. I think I devoured the meal very quickly. I I ended the meal with their famous Apple Cobbler. It had vanilla ice cream on top of it. It was fresh from the oven and pipping hot. The ice cream melted all over the pie and it was divine. Overall, it was exactly what I needed from a long and stressful day at the hospital. Delicious. They do all of the traditional American fare, and do it well. From sandwiches, burgers, salads and soups, to steaks and seafood. We love the decor, music and atmosphere. They have a really nice bar too. The Dynamite Shrimp is very good - light breading, excellent sauce. Their baked beans are awesome. The redskin smashed potatoes are excellent. The ribs really do fall off the bone and just the right amount of sauce. The Chicken Piccata was excellent. We had it sans pasta, double veggies. The portions were so generous that we had leftovers for at least one more meal - making the prices much more reasonable. Finally, I had Bread Pudding for dessert, and it was an awesome finish! My family and I were big fans of Charleston's, & patronized them frequently, both individually & in groups, which is why this past weekend's experience left all of us absolutely speechless. I thought long & hard before writing this review, but considering the amount of money we spent to not receive the level of quality of both service & food required for such expense, & to warn others in a similar situation, it had to be done. We were a party of 10. Yes, this is fairly large, but I dine out in large groups quite often, & it's never proven to be challenging. The afternoon of Saturday, June 10, 2023 proved to be a different case. To begin, we were told that we had to pay ON ONE BILL, where gratuity would automatically be added. This is an absolutely asinine & extremely inconvenient policy! We asked our server if the policy could be overlooked, & were told that it could not. Most of the party did not have cash on hand to reimburse the host, who personally funded the $411.00 tab on her personal credit card. We were there for a celebration, & to end the evening itemizing who-ordered-what & at-what-price was embarrassing, tedious, & completely ruined the mood of the occasion! Secondly, all of us who ordered ribs, at $28 an entree, received cold food, which had to be returned to the kitchen. Instead of simply returning all entrees, our server had us place just the ribs on a separate plate & took them back to the kitchen to be re-heated. Our sides, mostly fries & vegetables, were left to become cold as the meat was reheated, which took *several* minutes. Then the meat was returned to the table to be transferred back to our original plates, causing a gigantic mess & loads of confusion! Some ribs never made it back to plates & landed on the floor! For a fine dining establishment, this did not fit the bill, was less than upscale, & completely avoidable. Lastly, one of our diners ordered a *hamburger* & was presented a cold *cheeseburger*. When we alerted our waitress of the error, the manager stormed over to our table with the plate in hand DEMANDING to know what was wrong with the order. Everyone at the table was flabbergasted & annoyed at the audacity of the manager to be so condescending & downright rude at THEIR mistake! Our diner eventually ordered a replacement entree, but was publicly humiliated & offended by having to explain why she needed the change to be made. The sole server for our group was nice enough, though obviously ill-equipped to handle such a large party alone, & should not have had to, considering that the restaurant was practically empty at the time of our arrival & throughout our meal. At the conclusion, we all agreed that we would likely never return due to how we were treated, neither individually or as a group. My solid advice: do NOT dine at Charleston's if you have a large party. They are not equipped to handle mid-to-large sized gatherings while keeping service, food quality & basic kindness in tact. Though this experience deserved one star, I'm giving them 2 because our server tried her best despite the despicable manager, & the food, once rectified, was edible. I welcome anyone from this location to contact me to discuss the matter. After spending over $400, an apology, at the very least, would be welcomed. Thank you. read more

We went here because the parking lot is ALWAYS full, and after living here for five years we had to figure out why. I used the restroom when we walked in and it was a mess. The soap dispensers weren't working, there were toilet paper rolls on every hook, and there was trash on the counter. Luckily the door had a foot-handle, and there are hand sanitizer stations outside the restrooms (still gross to wait all that time to get your hands clean). It's important to note at this point that it did smell AMAZING when we walked in. The restaurant itself is pretty plain- fake brick and gas lamps a single flag of Indiana hung in one wall, but beyond that there isn't decor. The interior of the restaurant seems more upscale than the restaurant actually is. My husband and I both ordered prime rib (at market price) and my son ordered a Mac and cheese plate. The prime rib was just eh and not very flavorful, and the Mac and cheese was penne and partially melted velveeta. The best part about the entire meal was the croissant that came with our salads. The restaurant was mismatched in sight, smell, and taste, and I really don't understand why it seems to be so popular. read more

Made our 1st visit having a gift certificate. It was lunchtime and the parking lot was full. Went in, we were immediately seated by Derek, and asked him about what he liked. He gave honest info and shortly after we encountered the other Derek! We talked with him and we're told all the specials, customer favorites and placed our order. I had the chicken Piccata and the hubs had the smoked salmon with jicama relish (delish!) and the glazed carrots which were highly recommended. Wow! The food was delicious, perfectly cooked and the staff was incredible. With the current climate we live in with scarce, overworked staff, this was a breath of fresh air. We were "greeted" by a rude hostess that acknowledged me and my husband as the number two when talking to the other host. I wanted to ask her what her favorite item on the menu was and she was being very short and rude with her response and on her phone the entire time when I asked the other host said her name was Jaiden and I left unsatisfied with my experience. I've been a fan of Charleston's since the first time I walked in. I love the romantic and cozy atmosphere with the dark woods and low lighting. Wonderful spot for a cozy dinner with my husband or to meet friends for dinner. The diverse menu has something for most folks we go with. Everything from juicy burgers, several sandwiches, chicken finger tenders (my friends fav), fresh salads to prime rib, fish, steak or grilled pork chops. We've never had a bad meal regardless of the location we've been to (Castleton or Carmel). We've enjoyed the reuben's, burgers, spinach salads, grilled fish dinner, chicken piccata, shrimp scampi, chicken alfredo, and grilled pork chops to name a few. Don't pass up the light and fluffy crossiants! They are heavenly! The servers have always been knowledgeable, attentive and friendly. Charleston's is chain that is locally owned and managed that serves good casual food. I met a friend for lunch and had the Bison Burger. They were ranked #13 on best places to have this particular beef option by four square. Bison is leaner than traditional beef and much more coarser in taste. The leaner the less flavor so they have a mustard sauce to compensate. The burger was very filling and did not disappoint. Larry, our server was simply amazing. The shoestring French fries had to be consumed quickly as they tend to not hold the heat but they were the perfect accompaniment. Our food came out quickly efficiently. read more

Staying at the neighboring hotel so stopped in. Party of two on a Friday night, arrived around 730/745 and were sat immediately. First ordered Coke and water and then took ages to have our server return to the table again to order two beers. Has several people come to the table in regards to our drink order- did we order drinks? What did we have in front of us currently? Brought one of the beers once we were halfway through entrees then a while later came back to say the featured beer was out so we had to pick another. Literally interacted with five staff members in order to get the two beers and only one of them smiled at all. It felt messy. Food was good though, we had a Caesar salad, the house chili, and hickory burger with fries. Would give the food 4/5. Nothing wrong, nothing spectacular. Server came back to ask if I needed a box for leftovers and it felt like that was the only time she was tuned in to what we may need. Left after paying and walked past the hostess stand with three young gals doing nothing, none of which could be bothered to acknowledging us. Honestly we left the restaurant feeling like such Karens - two gals around thirty just baffled at the poor service on a Friday night and complaining about feeling like an inconvenience. It honestly felt like nobody knew what they were supposed to be doing throughout the entire service. I'm certainly not one to complain about service - this is the only poor review you'll see on my Yelp history- just this just left an awful taste in our mouths. They picked the location and picked this restaurant and I said "sure" "why not"... so we walked in, first of all the restaurant was freezing. Like I ate my dinner with my coat on..... Went to Charleston's for Valentines Day with the Hubby. Charleston's is located off 82nd street near 465. At first upon arrival the parking lot was completely full. I finally found a space as someone was leaving. I was a little concerned about going and just expected service to not be the greatest since they were packed. But they proved me wrong! We walked right in to our reservation at 7:00pm and was seated with no wait! Next the server got our drink orders right away. She asked about appetizers but we were a little indecisive so she offered to come back. She did take a little while to return but it wasn't too bad. I had a Cesar salad, Prim Rib and broccoli. My husband had the pork chop dinner with cole slaw and fried okra. It was all cooked to perfection and delicious. Charleston's is often our go to after church. I visit here over the weekend and wasn't disappointed but not wowed either. I ordered catfish plate with mash potatoes and baked beans plus croissants on the side. The baked beans was so good, the mash potatoes just basic (first time I have not finished mash potatoes anywhere I go), the catfish was too fishy for my taste buds and the croissants was the best of the whole thing lol. I thought that Charleston would have great American fare since it's located at Indianapolis. But the food turned out to be average, so back to Bartlett's at Austin, TX I go. I had the artichoke spinach dip and a buffalo burger. The burger was average because the meat was tough and chewy, but I'd say that the artichoke dip is above average. I didn't appreciate the service I received though. My companion and I received the check right after all our food was delivered. We didn't even take a bite of the burger yet. The check was taken from our table just as quickly as it was delivered. But here's the catch: The waitress suddenly became more attentive when she saw that we wrote in a tip. I don't appreciate that our waitress waited until she saw that we tipped to provide good service. It was almost like the waitress was testing the waters with us tourists to determine if we should get service that was on par with the tables around us. I dislike be asked every five minutes if my food is good, but I even more so dislike ulterior motives coming from restaurant staff. Other than that, Charleston is a typical American restaurant. The population of the restaurant is mostly black families and old whites that dress fancily. Charleston is also more busy during that night, and the parking is plentiful. If you parking specifically for the restaurant, then the surrounding shopping center has even more parking. read more
