Don't let this sandwich spot fool you. Yes, it is located inside of a gas station, but this is probably the best sandwiches in town! The portions are huge and the price is great. I've tried almost all of their sandwiches, but the ones that we get on a weekly basis are the spicy meatball, Charlie's special, pastrami, BLTA, and the chicken club. To be honest, all of their sandwiches are fire. I stop by here at least 1-2 times a week for me and my co-workers. Def worth the try. I would recommend calling ahead and ordering as sometimes the wait can get long if you show up at lunch time. Tucked away on the east side of Wilmington in a gas station back room is Charlie's. I was skeptical about this place at first, I've driven by many times and never considered going in based on the location and look but today I was in the area and had a hankering for a good sandwich so I dove in & I'm Glad I did. Got the Charlie's sandwich with extra ham and I was a generous serving. The bread was probably on its last day of freshness but the meats were quality and the sandwich was stuffed to its max with fixings. Looked good, tasted good and definitely worth the $14.99 price point I paid. Will definitely return and recommend. read more

I've tried their beef dip and their pastrami sandwiches. They are big sandwiches. They are not stingy with the meat. That being said, I didn't love the taste of their pastrami. I also felt the sliced beef in the dip sandwich was slightly dry and the dip aus jus itself was bland and watery. While their sandwiches are big, they are almost $20 after tax for the large, and if you get the small, it's like half the sandwich for $13. A bit overpriced especially considering the location. They exist inside of an Arco in Wilmington, and you have to pay the Arco cashier. Very strange. read more

Great service and the 3 times I've been Ive tried 3 different sandwich's. All in which you can share because that's how big they are. The price is cheaper then chain sub place and the ingredients and veggies are fresher. On the negative, parking sucks! Because it's in a gas station and it's pretty much always busy. I was so sad I had judged it for so many years without trying it. Only reason I gave 4 stars is because they are constantly out of white bread. They do have the option of wheat bread but it's super dry, grainy and overall not good. Other than that their sandwiches are all a 10!!! My go to's are the meatball sub and the turkey club sandwich. Better than jersey mikes, jimmy johns and Quiznos. Must try!!! But ... if they are out of white bread, I suggest you come back another day. read more

So randomly yelped a food place after visiting a client. Didn't think I'd find anything good because the area is mostly industrial. To my random surprise saw this sub place and decided to try it out. Ok so it looks a little sketchy because the place is inside of a gas station. Went in and they had a good variety of options. Decided to get the pastrami because someone mentioned it was good. I am so picky with my pastrami. This one was delicious! Good lean cuts of meat (I hate when pastrami is too greasy), good mustard, good cheese, bread wasn't too thick! The only thing I would change is a little less meat Because I like an even sandwich but most people like a lot of meat so you guys will appreciate that. Anyways this place was worth it! I been living in Wilmington for the past 7 years and finally tried Charlie's. I had the turkey club. It was turkey, bacon, mayo lettuce and tomato. I had it on wheat and even the bread was fantastic. The turkey was very flavorful along with the crispy bacon in every bite. I liked it so much I went there 2 days in a row and got one for my work lunch. Service was fantastic. You order your sandwich on one side and pay on the other. It's a hidden gem inside of a gas station. Will definitely eat here more often. read more

Didn't expect this small sandwich shop to be connected with the small gas station, something I had never seen before but nonetheless made it a bit more interesting. I have to give a shout out to all you Yelpers for helping me find this place. I would have never thought to have walked into this place without reading the reviews. I mean, it's in a freakin' Arco station in Wilmington! That the Charlie's Special which was super tasty. The bread was great, Freshly baked, soft, and chewy. The Italian meats were generous and stacked high. The toppings were fresh and crisp. Bell Peppers, Peppercinis, fresh tomato, Italian dressing and a great tasting Provolone. I will definitely be coming back to this place in the near future to try their other sandwiches. You can pick up your chips and drink from the gas station convenience shop. I do warn you though, since they are in a Arco they do not take credit cards. They take Debit cards and charge you a 45 cent convenience fee so if you can bring cash to this place. Are you guys serious? Why is everyone giving this place 5 stars? I don't mean to be rude because the lady who helped me was incredibly nice. I feel bad about rating them with one star but I genuinely was disappointed after having their food. I got the BBQ pulled pork sammich w/slaw on the side. Here are the problems: -No seating... okay fine I'll eat in my car. -Might as well have been SOUP! I love juicy-- well, anythings. This was just too sloppy. The bread was SOAKING in the sauce and there was sauce all over the packaging, running down my hands and arms. It would have gotten all over my clothes if I had slower reflexes. I was glad I also happen to have a nasty napkin-stealing habit or else it would have been an even bigger mess. And yes, I used up all of my napkins. -Flavor of sandwich wasn't all that great. I ended up eating the meat with a fork. Bread wasn't too tasty and the texture disgusted me. -Cole slaw wasn't good. It was just cabbage with vinegar. Looked like it might have had a teensy bit of mayo in there, but not enough to change the flavor or texture. It was too dry and tasteless. Only good thing is that it was definitely filling. I'd try this place again. I think I just chose a really bad sandwich for me. I'd try the Italian next time, I'm sure it would be better. I will edit my review with an average of my next experience, along with this one when I try Charlie's again. I'll even round up if I end up liking it! We shall see! read more

My sister who works at the ILWU Credit Union up the block first told me about this place. It was a little weird going to a gas station for lunch but after trying the BBQ pork sandwich I haven't had any problems going back. I got the six inch and could not finish it. It was packed with meat and so juicy. Me and my husband have been back several times and have never been disappointed.
