Stopped by for dinner the other night. Had some great drinks over looking the boats on the shells. Had no problem waiting for a table, got to enjoy the great view and atmosphere. Got the clams casino for an appetizer; 10/10 would recommend. Our scallop and swordfish entrees were fabulous, and our server Graham was the best, so attentive. We went her last Sunday for the first time. It started out shaky, we both got a stuffed quahog as an appetizer and both were cold in the middle. This made me worry about how our meal was going to be. Well they made a comeback as both meals were good. The wife got NY sirloin and it was cooked perfect. I got the scallops and they were good. So I gave it three stars nothing great and the appetizer being cold really sucked, then the salad had wilted lettuce. After diner we grabbed a drink and sat on the patio that was the best part. We both agreed to eat somewhere else next time and just go get a drink on their patio. read more

One of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had , it was all thanks to the hostess Tina . We had a party of 6 that was a walk in with no reservation. . A reservation was never made due to the fact they were booked . We understood we had to wait so it wasn't a problem . Lucky for us a reservation was cancelled last minute and we got in a whole lot quicker then we expected . I ordered the special of Surf & Turf with Swordfish . I was given a full large serving of fish as well as a nice cut of steak ( I was expecting petite fillets of both ) I like that the veggies are served family style and come included in the entree . Our server was very patient and very much on top of making sure everything was great . The bill was shocking . For 6 adults drinking and eating entrees the bill was 300$ minus tip . I think that's a pretty good price point for fresh large portion seafood , wine , beer , mixed drinks and a fabulous home style atmosphere . I wouldn't dare call it a tourist trap . read more

If you make a reservation. Prepare to wait. Especially outside. We did get a snippy runner when we began to question after they were a half hour tardy. Other than that, an apology when we got sat an hour after our reservation. And of course, some of the specials were gone. the other staff were friendly, some were great. Food was frankly ordinary. Prices ok given the waterfront location. I'm not very patient, so their inability to honor a reservation drives my low score and will keep me from returning. read more

Certainly overpriced seafood! What you'd expect to be quality seafood cuisine (for the price) is really just average home cooking. Definitely make a reservation, although you'll still wait 20min when you arrive, which is weird because we made a reservation. Wasn't very impressed with the menu options. We were unable to order from the entrees because it was 300 and they do not serve entrees till after 400. The lunch menu is very limited- Was looking to just pick on some apps. Decided to just get a drink there then try somewhere else. OK, for location this place can't be beat. Cocktails outside at sunset is awesome. Good mudslides and big crowds. However, the food - not so much - the chowder is mostly corn starch and salt, salads sit overnight in the fridge and taste like whatever else is in there, and it's super expensive to boot. Here's the deal - this place makes a ton of money, and people just keep coming because the location is so good - but the food is nasty. So we go for drinks, and then go somewhere else to eat. My son & I went for lunch Friday Sept 27. The lobster salad was great, as usual. Our issue is with their appetizer "stuffed mushrooms with crab." The mushrooms were canned button mushrooms with the stems intact, cut to the level of the base of the mushroom caps. The mushrooms were barely warm. Several small pieces of crabmeat were sprinkled over the mushrooms. No stuffing evident. They could not be stuffed because stems still in place. Melted cheese covered the top. To sum it up: no stuffing, canned mushrooms barely warm, Token small pieces of crabmeat. No flavor. read more

The service is terrible, reservations are useless, and the food leaves something to be desired, especially for the price. Terrible food! The steamers were gross and had brittle broken shells they seemed old! And the kitchen refused to make me a larger than normal salad even though I would pay more for it! That is just lazy! Overall the drinks were good and service was average but the food needs some serious improvement we are actually concerned we are sick now! Spend your money elsewhere! read more

We had dinner here during our last night at the Cape, not sure why their ratings are so low. I would give this place more of a 3.5. My friend enjoyed her fish chowder, it was the special that night. I had the spinach salad with grilled shrimp added on, no complaints. Gets packed quickly, we made reservations. Friendly service. read more

The food is not what it used to be.....and the décor has NOT changed in 35+ yrs that I have been eating there which is maybe once or twice each summer. The men's bathroom should be enough for the Board of Health to close the place down. If they let the bathroom go to hell I can't imagine what the kitchen looks like. Food was good, service great and ambiance horrible! I've never been to a more noisy place, on top of which it was Saturday and jammed. There was a piano bar which on its own would've been lovely; however, some narcissistic older gentlemen thought the piano player was his and proceeded to sing for just about the entire time we were there!! I kindly spoke to the manager (at the nudging of the hostess to tell him because he ignores the staff) only to find my kindly offered suggestion to nix this guy and have piano only, to be completely dismissed! Seriously, a couple night finally get away from their kids for a night out and even might have a reservation that just lands near an old codger loudly singing ancient songs. BTW, I'm 63 & my husband is 76 so we do have perspective. This place should have karaoke on Fridays and Sundays only!!! Geez..... crappy management but who's asking me?!? Review for food only! If you thought 1963 was the high point for American food, this is the place for you. The menu hasn't changed since the year the Chart Room opened. The crab cakes barely tasted like crab, they were mush with swirls of mayonnaise on top. Others in my party were similarly disappointed. Service was friendly and efficient. Drinks were strong. This place is a cash cow on summer weekend nights, so I guess they have no incentive to improve. read more

We dock our boat at Kingman and eat here often tonight we had a old clam shell in the salad. We complained and the waitress was great. The manager told us the owner said that we had to have added it and it was not their responsibility. We asked to see the owner who would not confront us. Came here tonight (Saturday night) with some family. We got some outdoor seating right away and got drinks. First impression, pretty place. Second impression, sh*t faced people left and right. Some old man was laying on the grass by himself with his drink looking at the water scratching his junk for 5 mins then stumbled into some plants on his way out and I watched this guy go up and get denied by 2 big girl groups because he was so drunk.. Can you say: awkward?? Then 3 people in front of me in line all were getting mudslides and some frozen strawberry drink. Everyone's cups were different colors meaning they are not consistent. Literally every shade from red to pink for the strawberry drink a every shade from a light brown to white for the mudslides. Then when I order my mudslide the bartender just dumps the alc in the blender without a pourer/pour count so now I know they just eyeball the drinks. At first I was thinking if they don't pour count then maybe it's stronger but it wasn't. From this first impressions, I don't think I'll be coming back. read more

You cannot make this stuff up. Ordered a round of drinks for the table...the waitress spilled a gin and tonic right on my lap. Everyone at the table got up, let them clean it up, and laughed about it. After settling back down, another server came by with waters for the table. She proceeded to drop the whole tray onto my lap and my guests, full glasses of water. She was a young girl, and we did not make an issue. When the check came, there was no comp and in fact I was charged for the drink that she dropped on my lap. I called this to the attention of the manager on duty, and she brushed it off due to it being a young waitstaff. I can accept that once, but this was twice in one sitting. My beef was that I was charged for the gin and tonic that she spilled on my lap. The management had no intention to take that off of my bill and she said, "the staff does not have the authority to take it off the bill". I asked her to adjust the bill which she had no intent on doing. She lost my business and the other two couples that were with me, who otherwise frequent this place. read more

If you have been a regular at the Chart Room, I think eating there becomes one of those things about Cape Cod that's hard to explain, it kind of gets in your blood. Eating & drinking at the Chart Room takes fans (I count myself as a fan) to a higher level, where the uniqueness of Cape Cod is strongly felt. It's rare that a native Cape restaurant can take on some characteristics of a good sushi bar. But, we have found Chart Room to be one of those places where the folks at the next table might become charming dinner participants. I do agree with Ron C., it's all about "atmosphere". My husband and I absolutely love this restaurant. You cannot beat the sunsets and the relaxing views of the Harbor. My husband is crazy for the stuffed lobster and every time we come to the Cape for a visit we make it a point to eat here. The piano playing just makes the whole experience even better! read more

A nice location, but that's it. It's on the water, but has no fried seafood! We went on a Sunday at noontime and it was busy, but we got a table quickly. However, it took a while to order and even longer to get our food. I ordered swordfish kebobs with anchovy butter. At first, I got the kebobs, but no anchovy taste. When I mentioned it to the waitress, she said the anchovy butter was missing! The anchovy butter she eventually brought me consisted of melted butter with a bunch of anchovies swimming in it. I was expecting a nice compound butter. By the time I got it, my swordfish was almost cold. It was the most amateur attempt at fine food I have seen in a long time. My dining partner ordered a Reuben. It was okay, except that it had very little filling for what it cost. The whole experience was very disappointing. read more

My favorite place to eat when I go home on vacation! I don't even like seafood, i get the steak, prime rib or chicken, always a fantastic meal. My family and friends get the fish and lobster, everyone comes away fat and happy, usually with a doggie bag for lunch the next day. Great atmosphere, lots of friendly faces, fun for all ages. The view of the harbor is beautiful, especially at sunset. Cocktails on the patio, sitting on the Adirondack chairs, looking out at the boats, you can't beat it! My husband and I have started a tradition of frozen mudslides, sitting in the adirondack chairs of the Chart Room....enjoying the beautiful scenery on sunny summer afternoons. We've enjoyed the food in the past, but that's not why we go. So this past weekend, our first of the summer, we headed for the Chart room late Friday afternoon. It had been raining so we didn't think we would be sitting outside but decided to stop anyway. We enjoyed our first Mudslide of the summer (the best we've ever had by far) and left. On Saturday, the sun was out and it was fairly warm so we decided to go back. When we got there we were stopped at the parking lot entrance and told that starting that day they were implementing a mandatory valet parking service, that costs $5.00. Granted, $5.00 is nothing. But the fact that they don't make enough money on selling their customers food, alcohol and gift shop things is just ridiculous. The parking lot can get crazy busy on hot summer Saturdays and valet parking is probably a great way to lessen that craziness but please.....to charge for it?!?!? So we turned around......and went to Captain Al's Tiki bar....on Buttermilk bay. Much more laid back, still a pretty decent view....and they seem to appreciate their customers. After 25 + years as a summer visitor we are saying goodbye to the overpriced and over rated Chart Room.. but mainly because of a very RUDE hostess and terribly inept servers (it's my first day!) Too bad...been coming here happily for many years but the lack of investment in and attention to the facility, overall cleanliness and trained staff (hostess, not waitstaff) is really showing. Food quality is still generally good but lack of a workable system gets in the way of delivery of hot food. It seems they are just trying to pack in as many guests as possible with plastic folding chairs and bar tables jammed together making it impossible to have a level spot to locate your dish. Tables so close you can not help but listen to other guests. At times the piano helps, at other times it just makes it worse. Waitstaff do a fine job navigating the noisy mayhem but the hostesses are less than helpful in a smug, take-it-or-leave-it sort of way. This place is just overwhelmed and it shows. read more

Five star atmosphere. Awesome. Summer only. Have an expertly made fun drink in a plastic cup while sitting outside looking at the water - taking in the sun and breeze. Then dine inside.
