A phenomenal experience all around. We didn't have a reservation but were sat right away which I was not expecting at all. The design of the dining room is a really nice lounge-vibe with comfortable couch seating and moody music at just the right volume. Our service was exceptional with our waitress having a great knowledge of the menu and recommendations. I had the Paloma Rosa to drink and it's the perfect balance of sweet, smoky and citrusy. To start we tried the tuna tartare, which was so fresh and flavorful and has taken the spot as my favorite restaurant for this, the bolitas with a perfectly spiced chutney topping, the yuca frita with an aromatic and not too overpowering truffle aioli and the kitchen sent out a complimentary bread and coconut butter which would make a second new favorite dish of the night, beating the bread and butter from Old Hickory Smokehouse at the Gaylord Palms. My main was the Costilla, a short rib dish with carrots and breadfruit mangú that was enough to feed me for dinner and lunch the next day. My partner had the Langosta, or lobster which is never my first pick but was really well cooked with a nice fresh flavor. We have been to Chayote at least 7 or 8 times since they opened more than a year ago. The main issue with Chayote is the limited menu. They have basically the same menu since the first day, with very limited choices. It gets tiring to go to a favorite restaurant knowing the menu by memory and not having too much variety in the menu. Food is very good and creative and service is top notch. But Chayote needs to expand the menu. With the creativity of owner Mario Pagan and its kitchen staff adding different items to the menu should be easy. read more

I decided to try out Chayote for the final Anniversary Celebration for my wife and I. I had read that this spot was great so I wanted to give it a try. It did not disappoint. The ambience and overall decor was really done well . Think high end with a tropical vibe. Our server Taylor was really great and provided great recommendations. The restaurant hit it out of the park on 7 of 8 items . They were drinks , service , dessert 'tres leches', arroz con pollo for dinner, a killer 'pan sobao' with honey butter, alcapurrias, and Bolitas. The one dish we had that was just ok was the Pionono. Other than that , the food was fantastic . The tostones they served with the arroz con pollo were Sabroso! Great food service and ambience. We will come again . We were traveling and a family member recommended to meet at Chayote Barrio for lunch since stated they were open for brunch until 2 after hours of drive we all arrive and the restaurant was closed. Very disappointing why advertise open. Luckily there were other restaurants in area. But we really were looking forward to this one since highly recommended. read more

This place was amazing! Service, food, ambiance, cocktails... all exceeded our expectations. First, our server, Destiny, was amazing. She walked us through the menu, was knowledgeable, and prompt. Her recommendations were spot on. We started with the cheese balls. I don't recall what they're called on the menu, but it was sweet and salty with a guava jelly. These were simple yet delicious. Then I thoroughly enjoyed the evening's Lamb special, while my husband had the lobster langosta. Both were so delicious we didn't want to share! We ordered the smoked beets and brussels because it was something very different than anything we've had before. Who knew vegetables could be so decadent. Even the bread for the table was divine. One of the worst dining experiences of my life. It started out being asked if I wanted still or sparking by our server Paula, the atmosphere was nice and I was excited to try a new spot I had heard so much hype about opening. I asked for still water and was brought out sparking and then brushed it off after I pointed it out. I got two appetizers small bites the Yuka fries and cheese balls; the cheese balls were delicious the yuka fries were just okay. Additionally, I asked for bread and wasn't told about how they are made with pork product til I asked the food runner who dropped it. The menu was limited and not a lot of options for people who try to eat more vegetarian lifestyles, which was a little disappointing. The dinner I ordered was the lobster, which came on a white yuka base, white lobster chunks, and white sauce on top of a white plate. For the price, it all looked very bland. The look was unfortunately the best part, as the lobster was rubbery and the yuka had sticks which is a result of a lack of proper deveining in the preparation stage. The restaurant was opened by a world renowned chef and I am appalled by the lack of basic cooking skills that the kitchen had the night I came in. I even told the server how bad the food was and that it was inedible and she just looked at me mouth agape. The food runner eventually took the food back and got me a different appetizer that I could enjoy for my meal- her name was Zoe and the most helpful person I interacted with all night. The guests next to us were hitting a vape pen at the table inside the restaurant and management was nowhere to be found. I still paid for the food that was sent back with no apologies from management or customer service from the waiter. I am a bartender and was shown a very complex beautiful cocktail menu and was excited to try some of these creative complex drinks; however the menu they had was over simplified and shortened to a basic gin and tonic and old fashion as their highlighted cocktail, both of which were lack luster. The expresso martini sugar cookie variation was the most exciting drink I tried, but still not worth the trip over to get. Just ate at this restaurant. We were somewhat underwhelmed. It is located in an outdoor shopping center across from the Cheesecake Factory and down the street from a movie theater. First the staff was really good and friendly. However, the restaurant was very warm to the point of being uncomfortable. In fact, we left sweating. We had the small plate tuna tartare which was really good. I had the Sea Bass. Which was a surprisingly small piece of fish for almost sixty dollars. It was a small but it was also a good piece of fish. However, it was nothing special. My wife had the outside skirt steak with pesto. Again, it was fine but nothing out of the ordinary. Bottom line is that we could have made these same entrees at home and I venture to say they would have been at least as good. Nothing was wrong with our experience - it was just average. With the revamped look and feel of Winter Park Village Chayote is a perfect addition to the more upscale ambience the shopping strip is trying to go for. Think Ava but with a Mexican flavor. Good flavors of food. The pulpo was delicious and well made. The short ribs as well. Cocktails were on par... and our server Des made sure our service was on point. Coming to check on us and trying to send everything out in a timely manner despite it being a packed house. The only reason I am not giving it the full 5 stars is because of the location the parking is very limited and takes a while to find a spot. That is the main downside to hanging out in Winter Park Village. Either get there 30 mins prior to whatever planned time you need ir do ride share. read more

Great restaurant with good ambiance. The food was delicious. Unfortunately not a lot of vegetarian options, but the calabaza was amazing! It had such good flavor and I would def get it again. My husband had the tuna tartare and sea bass which he said was the best he's ever eaten. I also had the arugula salad (minus the bacon); it was good but I would probably skip the next time. This new restaurant is gorgeous! The ambience was amazing. The food was incredible! Unfortunately the young lady checking people in for their reservation did not give the best first impression. Our reservation was for 9:30pm and I called earlier in the day and spoke to the assistant general manager who stated that if we wanted to come in earlier the host would be able to sit us sooner. We got there at 8:30pm and this host abruptly declined that they could accommodate to that. I asked if there was room at the bar to which she replayed "there's no room". We walked over to the bar and got two chairs immediately. Had the best experience at the bar with our bartender Lindsay. She was amazing and their take on The Bees Knees drink was perfection. At 9:20pm I went back up to the host to ask if we should check in again and she asked me to close out at the bar and she will seat us. We closed out and went back up to the host stand. She then stated that she needs to make a call to another group who is 15 minutes late for their reservation and if they don't show up we can have their table. I asked her "then why did you have us close out at the bar if you don't have a table for us". At that point she could start to see our frustration and quickly sat us. The rest of the experience was for the most part great and our server Desiree was amazing! They definitely have a few things to figure out. Our sea bass ("chefs signature dish") had definitely been sitting under a heat lamp for quite awhile but the ribeye was next level out of this world amazing. The crab cake appetizer was also fantastic. Overall a great experience and I'm sure it will get better over time. read more

I keep trying to give this restaurant another chance, because the ambience is truly extraordinary for this area. However, the food has been inconsistent, and the portions have also. They vacillate in size, flavor freshness. The Seabass is one of my favorite dishes among several other appetizers, including the tuna balls/bites and the burrata salad, although they also remain inconsistent I/we are giving it one more chance tonight and see what happens. I will review. One of the times I arrived with a large party to celebrate a birthday, the prices were even inconsistent at the time. Also, the champagne flute is not filled as champagne flutes are typically speaking as we frequent other fine restaurants ex: the champagne bar next door, even, yet the price is reflected as a full pour plus! That is just a good gesture of hospitality. It can't hurt too much to provide the paying customer a "standard 300 ml pour" I mean, are they hurting? I truly hope they survive as we need to fill a category of good restaurants in Winter Park as a resident of Winter Park, as well as, my family. We are foodies. Thank you read more

Let me start by saying I love the location and ambiance of this place. Good music, good decor on the inside, and love the lay out of the restaurant. Our server was great super attentive and our food and drinks came out at reasonable times. The cons I would say is the food is pretty average for the price. Super overpriced for the food they're serving.. like I said it was good but a lot of their dishes were very dry and lacked some flavor. The yuca fries were undercooked, and the arroz con polo was overcooked the pulpo was very dry and salty and was overcooked. Additionally... for some reason they kept dropping silverware by our table and even broke a glass and glass got all over our table in our food and drinks. They did replace all of our drinks and food which was appreciated but didn't comp anything and just gave us a few desserts..I know they tried but I expected a little more for that experience we had and with average food. Went last week with high expectations considering I have tried Mario Pagan's restaurant in San Juan. Upon walking in, it was gorgeous. Our server was one of the nicest ever, he was very helpful and overall just very attentive. The small plate options were flavorful and made us so excited for the food and drinks. I got the Paloma Rosa and my husband the skinny colada. My drink tasted like someone put NyQuil or robitussin on ice... and my husband's had no flavor at all it tasted like watered down coconut water and the price was just not it for how bad they were. I ordered the lechón and had to force it down... one for the portion, price and taste it was just awful. My husband ordered the short ribs which I will say was good not the best but should be tried for sure. Would I come back? Probably not, there is so much missed opportunity for this place. read more

Very nice lady that attended to us. Our appetizers came out waaaay before our cocktails. Luckily the cocktails were on point. The pulpo was dry like a cheetoh and over cooked and sadly presented on a dehydrated film layer of black beans. Our second appetizer was drowned in a garlic aoili that you couldn't even taste that it was beef tartare (shaped like a pressed out hockey puck). They were both pretty sad and disappointing. But again the cocktails were wonderful. Both guests had the sea bass along with an uneventful pedestrian squirt of potato purée. The hail stone size of seabass was passable.....potatoe purée was somewhat insulting. I asked our server if the BIF was a ribeye cut. She said yes. And I also asked her if the "ribeye" was a thick cut. She said yes....For that price, that's why I questioned it. She asked what temperature that I would like it. I answered rare/medium. When the BIF arrived, it was done fully MEDIUM and it was not a RIBEYE. It was a undoubtedly a new York sirloin strip. The side dish of broccolini was done perfect. This was a pretentious attempt to fancify Cuban cuisine. We were truly disappointed and did not want to give the desserts a try. This was truly an insult to Cuban cuisine.... Just salty and ill flavored poor quality seafood and meats...Pretty much a waste of 500$ for 3 guests....Best thing was the company and decent cocktails. Never need to return again. Waste of money. Mom and pop Cuban restaurants put this overpriced wannabe eatery to shame. read more
