I went in for a lunch time visit for some good soulful drinks. My wife and I were a little skeptical going during lunch as our previous visit had us being seated and getting no help(not even an offer of water) for over 30 minutes with an active 18 month old. This visit, we were seated pretty quickly in the bar area and Elisabeth was excellent. She greeted us just after being seated, and took our drink order. We originally placed an order for drinks and informed her that we preferred them with our food opposed to before and she was ok with that. 5 mins later after changing our minds, she was 100% okay with going ahead and making the before the food and her attitude did not change. I've heard about this place for at least a year but I'm never in the area so never even considered stopping in. As luck would have it, my girlfriend and I were headed that way this past weekend and I decided (last minute, crossing a minimum of 5 lines) to drop in! I'm glad I did, they hype was indeed true. I had heard the burgers were large and cheap (just like I like them!). I can confirm on both points, the burger was large, juicy with plenty of flavor and for something like $6 I got the burger and a drink included. Not bad if I do say so myself! I'll be back Cheddar's! First time entering in Cheddar's it has a nice jungle like interior. The food was good and the service was okay. This restaurant is usually busy as I feel as if it's another Hops, but cheaper burgers and more of a hang out atmosphere. One bad thing about this place is the amount of seating and how big of a group you can bring. They only have 2 big tables seated for 6+ and sometimes my friends and I have to split the tables. I've been here many times with friends for lunch and dinner and it seems like every time the service is just mediocre. Understood though, that it has gotten better since the last time I was there. I really like Cheddar's. I know that I can go in and get a hot meal that tastes good. I was hoping they had the fried chicken patty special that I hear is fabulous but that was not the case on this visit. I typically go for the grilled tilapia served over rice, with two sides wihch is what I enjoyed on this visit. The waiter was super nice and others assisted him with the large party as needed (great teamwork). The restaurant also has an okay wine selection to complement your meal. As many times as I've been to Cheddar's over the years, I can't believe I'm just now getting to writing a review. If you must go to this place on a weekend, go early as possible, otherwise find a seat and get comfortable waiting. Although this advice is pointless on Sundays because it's pretty busy from open to close due to the church crowd. Personally, I don't find the food worth waiting no more than 15 minutes for. Also the service is nothing special. Cheddar's offers all the typical American food: ribs, salads, burgers, chicken of all kinds, fish tacos,etc. My favorites are the honey croissants, bourbon glazed salmon, and the key west chicken and shrimp. The greeters are very rude when you walk in. They don't greet you with a smile and they aren't very accommodating at all . I've been going to Cheddar's for years and it has always been on point! An absolute must are the honey butter croissants! You will be hooked aftert he 1st bite! Trust me. You don't want to pass these up. Also if you're looking for a tasty adult beverage you definitely should try the Pain Killer. It's pineapple coconut rum goodness! There's also a two pain killer max so you will feel a little warm while partaking ;) Now on to the food...EVERYTHING I have ever ordered has always been good. I generally like Cheddar's but this location was an exception. I was surprised to find the parking lot had few cars when I arrived at 5:15 on a Monday evening. I met a friend who also was traveling on business and we requested a high top table in the bar area. We were seated quickly after the table was partially wiped off but not dried so it was a little sticky. The server who seemed to cover the bar and all the tables seemed a little overwhelmed perhaps. The food came in a reasonable time but she did not check back for what seemed like an eternity. I finished my beer about the time the food arrived and she did either notice or care. I finally was able to get a water when she came back as we were finishing dinner. Then we waited and waited for a check again it seemed as if she forgot about us or was ignoring us. She was moving about the room but not really checking in as she passed by. Checks came and she processed payment efficiently. My sirloin was delicious ( maybe a little too seasoned) and my salad seemed fresh might skip the green beans next time. We left at 7:15, 2 hours after we arrived. Went here because it was within walking distance of our hotel, we were not disappointed. My husband got the Signature Chicken and Shrimp salad and I got the spagsagna. Yes, spagsagna. It was lasagna but instead of lasagna noodles it had baked pasta. Delicious. I was worried it would be very heavy, but it was surprisingly light and the sauce was flavorful and delicious. I went here a while ago and it was bad. Years later, I got a free lunch from Cheddars at my job. I ordered the vegetable plate since their vegetarian selection was almost nonexistent, and they failed to explain that their broccoli and cheddar casserole (or whatever it's called) has CHICKEN in it. The other sides that came with my meal tasted worse than frozen meals from the grocery store. Terrible. I arrived in the parking lot and noticed it was packed. My order was to be picked up at 9:31 PM on a Sunday night. This was my first time ever eating at Cheddar's so I was optimistic that the food would be tasty based upon the parking lot's capacity, I ordered the 8 ounce salmon which comes on a bed of rice, broccoli and mashed potatoes, chicken tenders with buffalo sauce, red beans & rice, green beans and a side of croissants. I tasted the buffalo tenders, they were juicy, moist and not spicy to me, but my mom needed the blue cheese. However, she enjoyed them. She raved over the rice and beans saying she never had them like that before. She is from the south. My niece, who is almost 6, devoured her 8 ounce salmon. She had some mashed potatoes which she said was good. This is coming from someone who is a very picky eater. She didn't get to the broccoli during this setting, The croissants remained warm, soft and fluffy. My niece said they tasted like heaven. There was a wait mid day on a Saturday, which surprised me. Fortunately, there were enough televisions in the bar area that I could watch my Tar Heels while I ate and made small talk. I ordered spinach dip and the cajun pasta. The spinach dip was pretty good, especially since I was hungry. Their chips were homemade. The dip was a creamier version with a dollop of sour cream. My pasta was decent. I didn't like the sausage that was in it wasn't andouille. It was more of a breakfast sausage and they were in big chunks. The shrimp were great, blackened, and with the tail on. There were only three. If I had to do it over again, I'd substitute all meat for shrimp. The pasta was average with a sauce that was forgettable. We weren't going to be put off that easy. We decided, maybe they're busy, and we drove to the restaurant to eat-in. When we got there (a little after 5:30 on a Sunday evening) we were told it would be a 15 minute wait. So, they were a little busy, but over a third of the tables we could see were empty. The waitress was quick to take our order. I asked for the ribs. She smiled and said they were out of ribs. So, I ordered the chicken fingers instead. My daughter ordered a small steak, medium well. I asked to have some croissants for our appetizer (those are the main reason we used to love this place). About 10 minutes later my salad was delivered, and the waitress let us know that they were out of croissants. They will make some more, but it will be 30 minutes. I asked to have them removed from the ticket. 10 minutes passed and we got our entrees. My tenders were fine, but my daughters steak was undercooked. She ate it anyway. I spent the majority of my meal without a drink as the waitress never brought refills despite being asked a couple times. Daughter was disappointed in the experience, so I tried to salvage by ordering dessert. I asked for the fudge cake sundae, and was told that they are out of fudge cake. Cheddar's is always delicious no matter which location I go to. The monte cristo is my absolute favorite and I order it every time. Another favorite of mine are the chicken tenders. The soup is always good and the onion rings are to die for, I could live on them. I hear my sister raving about the Dijon Chicken and mushrooms so I tried it. The chicken was tender, the mushrooms were perfect and the dijon sauce was tasty but a little on the salty side but once it was mixed in with the rice made it more palatable. People intentionally never called us for our seats and they did that with many people. When we got our seats and ordered it was 7:15. We waited for food until 8:45, then when we got it, all of the fries were ice cold. Then server spilled BBQ and no one cleaned it up. We waited another half hour for dessert and our check. The server never said sorry about everything. We talked to the manager and he just became manager two days earlier so he was new. Sooo I haven't been to Cheddars in awhile due to the low ratings a few months ago but decided to try it again today. My family and I arrived around 12:30pm and no waiter or waitress adressed us for the first 15-20 minutes. There were not a lot of people there so we could not figure out what was taking so long. The manager came by and took our drink order and advised the waitress was busy and offered an appetizer for the wait. We agreed that it was a good gesture and proceeded to wait. The waitress came around 10 minutes later to take our order. Unfortunately, the food did not come out until around 1:30pm and the waitress apologized that the kitchen was slower than normal. We ordered Dijon Chicken & Mushrooms, Country Fried Chicken, Cheddar Cheese Fries & macaroni and cheese. The food was tasty overall. First and last time here. 1) Wouldn't seat a partial party. We had 10, and about 4 entered while the others were stuck in traffic. Wouldn't seat us, despite the possibility of large tip and inconvenience of waiting when we could have been ordering appetizers and drinks for everyone. 2) Ran out of Pepsi & Sprite. Pretty unapologetic about it despite our attempts to laugh it off. 3) Ran out of country-fried steak. Asked for another option adjusted to lunch size/price. Server got an attitude, said he would get manager. Manager said "we are a scratch restaurant and our goal is to run out of food, so we really can't do anything about it." 4) (update) had the chicken and waffles. I very rarely if ever eat meat, so suspected my body was reacting when I became ill; however 24 hours later and I still have stomach cramping and pain, as does others in my party who had chicken and waffles. No one else in the party is ill, however. (6/13/14). WHAT??? So, your GOAL is to DISAPPOINT??? We came in with high spirits after graduation to lackluster service and the food was "ok" at best, probably would have tasted better with better service. I have eaten here several times and I have not been disappointed. The restaurant is located off of W.T. Harris across the street from the old Wal Mart. I love the decor of the place especially the fans that are huge leaves and the fish tank. The booths are HUGE and can accommodate 4 people to a row easy. Not to mention, they're wide enough to shove a car seat into them without a struggle. The wait staff has always been nice, attentive, and they pay attention to details (I am kind of a picky eater so this is a huge plus for me). A couple of them will sit down with you and chat just a little if you're in the mood to have company (but they don't linger too long). The food has always been great! I've had their burgers (which are cooked to order perfectly), chicken dishes (haven't had a dry piece of chicken yet), and their salads. My food has always been hot (or nice and cool for the salad), on time, and full of flavor. I recommend their burgers though, they actually season the ground beef before throwing it on the grill (yes, I've been to places that don't do that). If you're not full after eating all the food you got, don't forget about dessert! Their desserts are humongous and it'll take at least 2 people to eat the whole thing. I've had all of their desserts and I recommend all of them. They range from a death by chocolate cake, to a simple ice cream sundae. This was my second time at Cheddar's. First time at this one. We were a large group and had to wait over an hour to get seated. Then when we did get seated, the service wasn't that good. The waitress took a long time to get our drink order and took a while to get them to us as well. Then when she finally came and took our order, we had to wait a long time to receive our food. It took so long that the group that came in after us got their food before we got ours! Different waiter! When we did get our food it was good, but some of it was cold to.
