Food isn't bad. I can tell, though, that most of the food is pre-made as it comes out lightening fast. Granted, the place wasn't busy, but the food just doesn't taste fresh, although it didn't taste bad. Service was good. Hot and sour soup was more tangy and had a really loose consistency, but was still tasty. The Kung Pao chicken was decent, again not tasting fresh. read more

I eat here at least twice a month. Not the best, not the worst. But come to think of it, I'm not really looking for awesome Chinese food. It's certainly consistent, and in walking distance from work! We ordered beef chow mein, pork chow mein, and orange chicken to-go. They were fast and friendly. Both of the chow mein orders were amazing. Not too salty and it wasn't dry. It had a lot of onions, cabbage, and bean sprouts, which is good, because I love crunching on veggies. The orange chicken good, but I prefer bigger pieces of chicken. We spent a total of $30. This is a terrific restaurant run by terrific people. The food is authentically prepared and very tasty. My family has been coming here for 13 years--since back when it was Mei Garden. I love this place. Favorites include Moo Shiu Pork, Lemon Chicken, and all of their soups. read more

The only Chinese restaurant I will eat at! The sesame chicken is amazing even though they changed it from when I first started coming here about 6 years ago (when it was still mei garden) My dad is big on cooking at home so getting Chinese has always been a nice treat. My first experience here was rough- greasy appetizers and luke-warm food.. but the service was good and when I complained about my food I was given a compliment hot and sour soup. Since then I have been back several times for dinner and the food is delicious. Their soups are great, sometimes their entrees can be a little greasy but all in all decent Chinese fare. We've been to this restaurant many times, loved the food, always hot, usually had great flavor. As of tonight we aren't going back. Tonight we ordered our ususal wor wonton soup and unfortunately with my last spoonful, there was someone's fingernail in my soup! And it was not my fingernail as mine had just been colored pink. We went back to the restaurant to show it to them (we had our food to-go tonight). The lady assured me it wasn't hers. We didn't visualize everyone's nails there but SOMEONE is missing a nail! They were kind enough to offer to make us some new soup but UGH! The lady actually argued about whose nail it was.....they refunded the soup money. With such a disgusting, dirty, unsanitary find in the soup you'd think they'd be apologetic, refund the bill.....no we aren't going back. My husband also mentioned how dirty and stinky the bathroom always was....I had the pleasure of avoiding it! We're now sad we haven'g been to visit Mary at SV Chinese Cuisine! read more

Perhaps it is that I'm from Wisconsin, so any Chinese food is bound to be better than what I'm used to, but this place ROCKS! I got take out, if that makes a difference, and it was ready in about 10 minutes. I got the Generals chicken, and it was the best I've ever had anywhere in the country and was a huge portion (I ate it for 3 days!) I also had the won ton soup (regular, not wor). I felt like having soup, but I'm not a huge fan of most Chinese soups, until now! This soup was great, and again fed me for 3 meals. It was full of a large variety of veggies that were not too overcooked, yet cooked enough that the broth had some nice flavors. Lot's of won ton and pork floating around too. The prices were fine for the food, in fact, it's the first thing I've found cheaper out here in CA than in WI! LOL I really recommend this place! read more

The food is very overpriced, the food was stale, and it was not worth the money at all. I ordered crab cream cheese puffs, a small white rice, and orange chicken and it came out to $20. The crab cream cheese puffs were stale and tasted pretty old. The orange chicken tasted like it had been sitting in a heater for a while and was just not good at all. I came here once before and decided to give a second chance. Regretted that. The store was completely empty while I waited for my food. I figured they would probably give me fresh food, but nope. It didn't taste very fresh. Not going to go again, and I wouldn't recommend anyone to go here. read more

Very good food the orange chicken is incredibly good. The service is nice and I thought I could give it half or quarter stars but it's definitely almost a five only bad thing (I'm being picky) the lighting is a little dark which is a really lame to complain about. Definitely eat here for a quick served meal. I have 5 people in my party and took them about 15 minutes. Very good eat here read more

I wouldn't consider this the worst Chinese food I'd ever had, more like the worst FOOD, I've ever had. We ordered General chicken, Pork chow mein, and Broccoli beef. The chicken was gristley, chow mein was short and flavorless with little veggies, and the beef was slimey, chewy and had the consistency of snot. I sent the beef back, and explained it wasn't very good. What came back was the SAME dish, just wok'd around again with more runny sauce, BARF! Not to mention the owner screaming at the top of her lungs in the kitchen. If the food was good, I'd chop the dull decor, screaming owner, and crappy dinnerware up to character. Chef Liu's is our favorite area Chinese food spot. We've eaten there since the month it opened as Mei Garden (20yrs?). They changed the name to Chef Liu when a conflict with a same named restaurant in Santa Cruz arose. Chef Liu himself has gotten on in years so his wife is the chief chef now but we never noticed a taste or quantity shift of any sort. They're very accommodating , exceptionally fast, always friendly, and attentive. You will not beat the price and quantity anywhere around the area. The ambiance is pretty much nil, limiting our taking groups there for BD parties and such but the flip side is price. It's about the only place in the area that doesn't take a painful bite out of your wallet. If you want ANY sort of modifications to the menu items they'll embrace them usually perfectly. We live in Santa Cruz but frequently make the 10 minute drive up to Scotts Valley because we like the place so much. We enjoy eating there whenever we want a "home cooked" Chinese style meal and aren't looking for pricey ambiance.. read more
