Thursday's are my half day at work. I had to return some stuff at Macy's so I went to Glendale. Then on my way home a little lightbulb came in and Chef Oya's came in my head. I have never eaten here but knew today was my day. I will tell you the best food comes where you least expect it. I order d the shrimp platter. Not sure what sauce I got. First off this food is hot and fresh. For $15 this is a bargain. I didn't wait till I got home I ate it while driving. The broccoli was cooked to perfection. The potatoes were too. I looked a little crazy eating shrimp and corn while driving but who cares. I couldn't stop. This place is #1 seafood joint in Indy. I will return for that lobster roll. read more

Please understand that this is a take out diner. It had a long line of consumers. Several people were ordering more than one entrée and extra butter sauce. It charges more for extras. I ordered the shrimp and lobster with garlic butter. She gave me a few shrimp, one small lobster tail, one red potatoe, a small portion of Broccoli and half ear corn. Its presentation was excellent and gourmet. All the food swam in its thick, heavy butter sauce. I love butter! But this was butter overload. The food taste like shrimp, lobster, potatoes, broccoli and corn with a lot of butter. The long lines, double order of entrées and request for extra butter sauces is proof that people of Indy love this food and their bank rolls are large. However, as mentioned in a previous review, I'm not sure if I came on an off day or what, but my crablegs plate had a generous amount of "OG" sauce but no taste. My salmon was dry and bland as well. This place is on point. It is not a dine in establishment you basically pick up and go at an outside window. The food though is divine. It's deep in the hood on Keystone and 34th street but you will not be disappointed. We had the Loaded Salmon and Shrimp dinner for $15. My wife had the Trap Sauce OG sauce and I had the Island Curry (Spicy) Trap Sauce. The corn on the cob was a little hard but it was so flavorful. The shrimp was on point. The seafood from this place is so delicious. It's a take-out only type of place in a not so great neighborhood, but the hours of operation handle that very well. The food smelled great and tasted even better. There are lots of options, but be prepared to wait in line to order. The prices listed are what you pay because the taxes are already figured in. There is a good variety too choose from the menu. I got the crab legs and shrimp and then the chowder ( saving for later ) as well. Picked up lunch today, and it was great! My husband got the loaded shrimp plate with the jerk butter, and I got the loaded salmon and shrimp plate with garlic and herb butter. We both got it "spicy" which is more of a medium spice level which was great for us. The meal came with new potatoes, a whole ear of corn, and broccoli. It was really great! The only thing I would say is that the spicy jerk flavor and the spicy garlic herb tasted pretty much the same. Both great! But not a big flavor variety if you're looking to try different things. read more

So, I've followed Chef Oya on IG since right after they originally opened - and just now had the opportunity to try their food today. I can say this is the best seafood I've ever had. Hands down. Everything was cooked nearly to perfection...I cannot tell you how many so-called seafood restaurants mess up the food in the cooking process (over cooked, mostly). I was so excited to try their loaded shrimp tray. I ordered five trays for me and my family. I was excited to eat my meal because I had not had it in a while and was ready to try all those yummy flavors (as I remembered it to be pre-covid). Not sure if it was because I ordered 5 trays but they did not put enough sauce in each tray. My whole family looked at me and made statements like "this isn't that good" and "there's not enough sauce". I sat there trying to defend the food but realized that it wasn't all that great and my family was right. This is hands down my favorite seafood place ever. Snow crab legs has been my favorite food since I was a kid but what they do with it here is pretty crazy...with the original Trap Buttah choices and all of the fresh toppings like cilantro, green onions, and Parmesan. Trips to Red Lobster or The Journey for snow crab seem empty now. They're like Easy Mac and The Trap is soul food macaroni and cheese with the layer of cheese on top. It's like that. Perched on the corner of 34th and Keystone, at the end of the liquor store where Jamaican Style Jerk used to be, you'll find the Trap. The freshest, most beautifully seasoned seafood will be served up in a to-go container that will taunt you to open it from the moment it's in your hands and you're smelling it. Even if you ordered crab legs, you'll certainly wanna attempt to eat them while you drive (don't do that though; safety first, guys). Word of advice: GET THERE EARLY. Since it's a tiny space, she doesn't have much room for loads of inventory so she's open from 11:00a until she sells out which is normally around 3:30/4:00p. It definitely lives up to the hype - everything I've heard, read, and all the pictures that I've seen tell a true story about this wonderful place. Know that when you visit, it is carry out only. There is a walkup window outside, it's almost like ordering from a food truck that's always in the same location. You will order from Chef Oya herself, and although she speaks to you through a window, her bubbly personality shines right through! I ordered the Loaded Crab Legs and Shrimp, then drove to McDonald's on 52nd St. to grab a sweet tea and eat in the parking lot. There's not much I can say that hasn't already been said. Chef Oya is sweet and welcoming, the wait was short, the food was beautiful, and it tasted even better than it looked. The only downfall is that she doesn't serve drinks, however, she said she is working to get her lemonade and teas bottled. Mannnn, I can't wait to taste those when they're available! Going with a friends review, I had very high expectations. I mean, I stood in this line for a long time, then waited again for a long time to get the food. I rushed home and tore into what I thought was going to be the most flavorful seafood I ever had. Warning: So I lived all around the country and spent a lot of time on the coasts, and in New Orleans. To me the pictures don't entirely entice me but the reviews do. And also anybody who is covering something with a flavored butter to a point that has you second guessing if it's too much butter also drew me in. Listen, it's good. This is a to go place probably so you can go home and shower after eating because its messy and not only is it messy but I ordered crab legs which gave me more of the opportunity to smear trap butter all over my body, which some wouldn't see where my problem was. The crab legs were so tender and buttery (not including the tub of butter it was in) and the shrimp were awesome. I got the Thai flavored trap butter. The potatoes were such a great vessel to sop up everything left over. The only confusing thing was the boiled egg to me. Maybe there's a reason why a boiled egg is included? Who knows. When I say I've been trying to get there for 2 months, I mean it! I just couldn't go during the lunch hours she was open. This time, I made a point to stay an extra day to go and get me some of the best seafood I've had ever! Her legs and shrimp plates are enough for 2 meals, perfectly seasoned and cooked, the Young Bae seasoning added that extra kick to the signature O.G.Trap Buttah that you didn't know you needed. Everything is take out, so I pulled over in the parking lot to taste them while they were fresh. The legs and shrimp were perfectly cooked, fresh and juicy. They were tender and filling. The potatoes and corn were also done very well. Nothing was overcooked or sitting for too long. The buttah was a great complement to everything on the plate. The lobster tail and boiled eggs were the icing on the seafood queen's cake! You know it's good when Sa'kinah smashes get late with no talking! So...I was underwhelmed. I've been to another seafood place like this in town and in other cities and was expecting lots of flavor and great seafood. I love the concept, because face it, we are in Middle America and we can't expect the best seafood here. And you can only get it for a few hours a day, during lunchtime. That's cool, but that severely limits my visits here. I ordered the shrimp with the "Trap Buttah" and the flavor of the butter was delicious. However, that taste never made it to my shrimp. I had to peel all of my shrimp and kinda drown them in the butter to get the flavor. And my shrimp were overcooked and significantly smaller than the competitor. I was underwhelmed with my meal even though this place came with a very good recommendation from a great source. I want to give it another shot for the Crawfish on Thursdays. Where to even begin? Chef Oya nails it with a juicy, mouth watering selection of seafood, covered in her exquisite flavored butters. Humble on the outside, this place packs a serious punch and will not drop off of your radar! I've gotten multiple of her boils and they are perfect. When you eat enough seafood that has been prepared this way, you start to get picky. Rubbery, overcooked seafood is always a dealbreaker for me. Every time I have come to Chef Oya, however, everything melts on the tip of your tongue, right along with that damn butter! This place requires that you walk up to a small window, so I usually go in the summer. That being said, I have not tried to come here in the winter, so I cannot speak on how ordering and waiting goes during that season. I'm extremely indifferent about the hours, but overall the food is delicious I would love to purchase her trap butters. Crawfish is terrible and shrimp are ok. There is no place to eat but ONE tiny picnic table.
