I took my elderly 94 year old neighbor to this restaurant last night for the 5pm to 7pm happy hour menu. The food here is always good but the staff, the hostess and the chef's wife were horribly rude and unwelcoming to us. We were seated closest to the rear door on a very cold evening. We were also the first to arrive in the restaurant, and were told that this was the only table we could sit because the restaurant would be very busy. We froze the entire evening. We received zero service. We had to ask for EVERYTHING. We were treated so terribly that after years and years of patronizing this restaurant, I will certainly never return again. The food was great apart from the creme brulee desert which was curdled and chunky- it was inedible but not taken off the bill. In short, we were treated like poor folk sitting in the back of a bus in a manner that was more or less, "you can sit here, but don't expect us do do a thing for you." We tipped 20% but it was the first dinner I can remember (ever) that I kicked myself for leaving a tip at all - it was NOT deserved!! But this tip is well and truly deserved to those who read this review - avoid patronizing this restaurant for their happy hour menu because - if you are going for the happy hour menu - THEY DO NOT WANT YOU!!. Last night was my first visit to Chez Pierre. What a find in a non-descript mini mall in Palm Desert. The ambiance, staff, service, and food were beyond excellent. I ordered the Cassoulet Toulouse, and I am still on a high from it. Quite possibly, it is better than any cassoulet I have tasted in France. Everyone I dined with thought it was the best meal we have the pleasure of eating in the valley. We all plan on becoming regulars! read more

Just ate at Pierre's at the new location. The new place is more stylish than the old. The food, as usual, is perfect. We had appetizers, the sand dab special and sweet breads - a favorite of mine. Pierre is friendly and welcoming. His wife is elegant. The staff remembered us from last year. They are attentive and unobtrusive. We have been going to Chez Pierre for many years, dating back to the former location by the Trader Joe's. It's hearty provincal cuisine - read "come hungry". We loved the old location - especially "table 20" under the fairy lights. There's something about the new location that doesn't grab us. It's bright. It's not intimate. Pierre doesn't seem to mingle as much. Bottom line is that if you're very hungry and don't care about the atmosphere - go! If you're looking for a special night out in the desert there's probably better choices. read more

Dined on 03/20/2014 WAIT,WAIT,WAIT FOR AVERAGE FOOD Food 3 / 5 Ambience 2 / 5 Service 2 / 5 Noise Level Quiet We had a reservation for 4 people for 6:30 p.m. We were repeatedly told our seating was late but would be "just 15 more minutes" and we ended up be seated more than an hour after our reservation time. Food and service were thereafter average and no one apologized for the delay (we had to sit on a concrete bench outside because the bar was full and is too small to accomodate more than a few people. When it came time for dessert the waiter said they were sorry for our wait and would buy our dessert,,,,,but clearly stated that it would be ONE dessert per person (trust me, we weren't thinking of ordering them all!) Ambiance, attitude and service simply didn't make it worth the long and irritating wait. read more

Went for dinner during Restaurant Week with another couple. It was their first visit & we have been here several times. The menu was very enticing for Restaurant Week & Pierre stopped by to greet us & let us know that he will be open all summer. There is a special summer menu and he will have set meals for $32. We each had different entrees and mine was the veal pot roast, which is maybe the best veal I have ever tasted anywhere. I also had the onion soup appetizer & it was outstanding. Other dishes included the celery remoulade, the sand dabs, the hanger steak & beef bourguignon. For dessert we had chocolate mousse (very good), the profiteroles (very good), and the cafe liegeois (espresso over vanilla ice cream (excellent). The food here is always excellent and the special menu will be sure to bring us back a few times over the summer. The service is outstanding and the wine list is worth a good read before you order. read more

Great little find! Easy valet parking, super friendly and warm welcome. Excellent waiter and everything very attentively executed. Generous wine pour and good portions. Onion soup was excellent, dinners were good or excellent, dessert excellent. Food options were really varied and excellent, but the taste warranted a 4 star instead of a five only for blandness on some dishes. Would return though. Absolutely loved seeing the owner and the passion for cooking that comes through. read more

About a year ago I learned that I have Celiac Disease which means I cannot eat foods containing gluten. When I asked the waiter if there was anything on the menu which was gluten free I was offered lots of options. Then Chef Pierre came out and offered to custom cook whatever I wanted that he could make gluten free. The best news is that the food was incredibly delicious and my wife, who does not any dietary requirements - loved the food as much as I did. This is truly a special place and even if I did not have to eat gluten free I would go back to in a heartbeat. A few side notes: every part of the meal was just perfect. The salad's were wonderful, the main courses and the presentation was over the top. The desserts all looked and sounded great and I had the best chocolate mousse ever. The service was first rate and the prices were not too high considering that this is a classic French restaurant. One side note to people who have to eat gluten free: bring your own bread or crackers because Chez Pierre serves an amazing goose liver pate when they bring out the bread and butter. read more

Wow. How perfect. Not a chain. Perfect food. Varied menu to suit our party of four. I took a chance based on other yelpers and was not disappointed. The atmosphere was intimate and quiet. Price point not too high, and Chef Pierre came out to say high twice. Wasn't crowded, but given 100% positive feedback from my group, I can't imagine this place will remain a secret for long. This was a fabulous traditional authentic French restaurant where Pierre the chef/owner comes out to greet his patrons. He takes great pride in preparing very authentic dishes. I had the special Sand dabs which were prepared with a beurre blanc sauce accompanied with potatoes au'gratin and vegetables. Fish was cooked perfectly. My friend had frogs legs that were fantastic. The roasted red pepper salad was served with too many anchovies but other than that the meal was delicious and service impeccable. You can always tell excellent service by how often they fill up your water. Desert was creme brûlée and tart tartin. A little too much carmel sauce but delicious all the same. A friend from SF recommended Chez Pierre so we went for happy hour. The food is out of this world good, and such a nice find in the desert. The steak tartare was amazing, hubby loved the french onion soup and pappardelle with bolognese, and the frogs legs were divine. Drinks were perfect. This place is a 10. Chez Pierre is my favorite restaurant in the Valley. The food is always masterful. I went for my birthday during restaurant week. They offered a 4 course meal. I started with Escargot. Then I had a soup. My wife had French onion with gruyer and I had a truffle/ mushroom soup. I chose the shrimp risotto which was wonderful, I went home and made it myself later in the week. It was a saffron with a shrimp broth and parmigiano. It had a hint of truffles. I use capers in mine and shallots. My wife had the salmon which was incredible. Actually I liked my wife's meal better. It's easy for me to make a lot of the dishes, but to get the salmon like he did, that's magic. The dessert we both had was a cream puff and vanilla ice cream. They also brought me out a chocolate mouse that was as rich as a gouache. They even sang Happy birthday! The wine I ordered a Sancere they were out of but he suggested a Chabeli that was amazing. I am forgetting the name. Gounod Montrechate? I don't remember. Real Chabeli is wonderful. All in all it was a wonderful time. read more

This is a lovely restaurant with excellent service and outstanding food. I highly recommend. It provides pate with butter for your bread. The menu is varied enough that you eat there 7 days a week and not get bored. Try the onion tart - its really tasty. Chef Pierre is in the house doing his thing and will come out to talk to you. Overrated for a good French Restaurant. We ate here while at Desert Palm on Jan 16, 2016. The yelp reviews made us think it would be great but we were disappointed. The atmosphere was really nice and we were prepared for a great meal. we split an endive salad with walnuts. The salad dressing was unappealing. My wife had mussels in a white wine sauce. This was a real missed opportunity. The mussels themselves were fresh but the wine sauce was very bland. We have had a much richer, fuller sauces at other restaurants. Likewise the cassoulet which is what I had. I love the idea of a cassoulet and it was served in a hot casserole dish as it should be. It had several types of sausage, a duck leg and some pork. All this was in a large amount of beans. The problem was the meats and the beans lacked flavor. It was as if the sausages and other meats had had the flavor drained out of them and yet the beans did not really reflect absorbing those juices. Again, we have had much better at other French restaurants. read more

Dined here Friday night with friends from Baja, Mexico and everything was extraordinary. The great service started with Chef Pierre greeting us at our table and our waiter Arturo taking care of our every need. We all had different appetizers and entrees, sampled each other's plates and everything was delicious. Offering French cuisine choices that are not your average faire found at most restaurants. We were recently deeply disappointed in Chez Pierre, although have liked it in its older location. First, our reservation was not honored, so we had to wait at a filthy bar with no bartender. Service was harried & unfriendly. The food no better than average, a real let-down for a French restaurant. My rabbit haunch arrived on a big - I mean huge - platter of plain old noodles, a dribble of sauce. Nothing unique or even interesting. Pierre is going backwards with fine cooking, trying to substitute gigantic sized portions over excellent food. read more

We've eaten here twice in 2105, and enjoyed both occasions. Enjoyed my sand dabs and my caesar salad. Excellent Martini, with just enough vermouth to take the edge off the gin. Nice selection of wines by the glass, priced fairly. My muscadel was perfect with my sand dabs. Service is helpful and caring. Owner-chef was very visible both times, and came to our table to be sure everything was fine. We'll return. You can pay more for French food in the desert, but not eat better. read more

From start to finish a great evening. Walked in the door and was greeted by Pierre with a big hug. A nice crowd for a Tuesday night. Our waiter was friendly and efficient. They serve a delicious pate with great bread.I could have eaten that all evening. Our entrees were great. I had the duck and my husband the orange roughy, both which came with yummy potatoes au gratin. We had no room for desert but the menu looked lovey. My husband I visited Chez. Pierre 10/4/14 after 3 years since our last visit. We remembered amazing food and one of kind service and that is what we got! The pate, bone marrow on toast, oysters, soft shelled crab, veal chop and beignets were fantastic. Chef Pierre came out to our table and made us feel at home. The new location is quite nice and wine selection has many great French wines at a reasonable price. We will be back!!!! Just wished we lived closer! read more
