** The following review reflects my takeout experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. ** Chic n' Time? To me, it's always chicken time, which is why when I saw this relatively new entry while walking in the Mission, I gravitated toward the tasty-sounding Vietnamese menu choices here mostly revolving around poultry in various preparations. I made my order a few blocks away and walked inside to discover the owner is Michael who was the former owner of Perilla in the Lower Haight. He remembered my name from Yelp and told me he read my reviews through the years. I can tell you that's a lot of years and told him he made the best five-spice chicken in the city. Instead I ordered the $10 Peppercorn Chicken Wings marinated in their house sauce with black pepper, jalapeños, and minced garlic (photo: https://bit.ly/3xUifMu). There were a half dozen plump ones, so tasty, and rather magically the skin stayed crispy. They weren't even my entree. That distinction belonged to the $14 Chicken Cabbage Salad, a heaping portion of chopped five-spice chicken on top of a bed of shredded cabbage, cucumber, carrots, and mint leaves topped with chopped peanuts and fried shallots (photo: https://bit.ly/3heAzdk). Also quite delicious and I decided to save most of it for the next day and it kept really well. You'd think that would be enough, but oh no, I couldn't pass up the $9 Shrimp Rolls. Really good stuff, and I'm glad to see Michael and his crew doing well at his prime location on Mission as there were several takeout orders on the counter and plenty of lookie-loos perusing the menu. I am so glad we heard about this place. We definitely over ordered, but it's not a terrible thing. We called in to place the order for pick up while heading back from San Mateo. They timed the order so it'd be perfectly hot when we picked up. We used to order Perilla for the office on a regular basis when we were open, since Covid we have been getting our fix from Perilla on Irving. We now have a closer option Woohoo!! The red curry is much spicier than the yellow curry I'm used too, but only because I am such a wimp for spice. We tried quite a few items this round. We stumbled upon Chic n' Time and it did not disappoint at all . The service was friendly and upbeat. The food was fresh, hot and delicious! ! Highly recommend trying the popcorn chicken app, the breaded shrimp with garlic noodles, the teriyaki chicken plate with garlic noodle, shrimp roll, the lobster garlic noodle(which has a Alfredo like cream sauce), and their chicken wings. We each ordered some type of Boba tea or slushy and a day later, my mouth is still salivating describing their plates. They're simple decor keeps you engaged at your own table. Ordered takeout and was disappointed by both portion and flavor. Ordered the black pepper wings and Cajun wings. Neither had good flavor at all. Cajun was especially dull and muted. On top of this the price comes out to $2 a wing which doesn't help when they weren't great. Popcorn chicken was okay but I have had better seasoning at boba shops. I have seen a lot of people in person when walking by since it opened so maybe these items are just not what we should've ordered. Lots of streets are closed off to allow pedestrians to walk and lots of restaurants have parklets to allow outdoor dining. I ordered garlic noodles with fried chicken steak (the owner told me it's thin strips of Taiwanese fried chicken) and popcorn chicken. The popcorn chicken was nice, juicy and hot from the kitchen. There was spice on the side which u sprinkled on the popcorn chicken to give it a nice little kick but not overpowering for me. The garlic noodles were nice and just right with the garlic seasoning. Some places over do it. Not here. The thin strips of fried chicken kind of reminded me of katsu. It was so good that I forgot to take a picture of it. It's generous portions for the price you pay. This is a nice casual spot to eat simple, comforting foods. Being here reminds me of being in Asia because the colors are so bright, place is clean, and looks casual but nice. I've walked by Chic n' Time quite a few times while in the mission and we finally got the chance to check it out on Saturday. We were catching up with some friends earlier in the evening and after we split off from them we were searching for something good and reasonably quick since it was a bit late for dinner. We got to Chic n' Time about 30mins before they closed, looked at the menu, and placed our order at the counter. I went with the Crispy Chicken Steak - Taiwanese style fried chicken cutlet served with steamed rice, broccoli, and a sweet chili sauce. Hubs got the Five Spice Chicken - Vietnamese style boneless chicken thighs served with steamed rice, broccoli, and nuoc cham. I was craving something soupy too so I ordered a side of chicken broth (which I assume is the same broth they use for their Pho Ga). Overall I thought the food was delicious and perfect for the quick dinner we were looking for. I think the Crispy Chicken Steak was great on it's own but I think it would be even better served with something soupy on the side. Five Spice Chicken was good and their nuoc cham is legit. I'm glad I ordered the chicken broth, it really hit the spot. We met the owner of the place and learned that he sold his restaurant Perilla on Irving St. to open up his new concept restaurant Chic n' Time. It was nice talking to him and trying his new restaurant, he highly recommended trying the peppercorn chicken wings, so I'll definitely be back to check that dish out. read more

SOO GOOOD Went there with a good friend group a couple months ago after a recommendation from one of them and the food was soo insanely good. But Mike made the whole trip such a fun core memory! More like a 4.5 star but rounded up cause it's a small business. Stumbled upon this place from Yelp since we were in the area and my cousin was super hungry after we did mini golf at Urban Putt. This place has 5 stars so we wanted to check it out. She ate her food there and I asked for mine to go. Her portions for the fried chicken steak with garlic noodles were hugeee! It's not a full service restaurant since you order at the cashier first and the food gets brought to you but I thought it was weird that they didn't give her any napkins or ask if she wanted water. I had to go up to the front to ask for it and they didn't seem very friendly about it - maybe cause they thought it was for me and I asked for mine to go? Regardless, I just didn't feel very welcome there at all, but maybe cause they close at 8:30 and we were there at 8:10pm? Nonetheless, the food was tasty. I tried a piece of her fried chicken steak and it was thin but crispy. They give the hot pepper shakers like you see at taiwanese food stands where they sell fried chicken and popcorn chicken. I ate my food once I got home and I ordered the peppercorn wings with garlic noodles combo and luckily it was still warm and the chicken was still slightly crispy after about an hour drive home (I had to drop my cousins off). The garlic noodles were tasty and perfectly garlicky. I can see why this place has 5 starts and I'm excited to go back and try all the other items on their menu! I had a craving for vietnamese imperial rolls, so I tried this place based on yelp reviews. The imperial rolls were quite good, so I wad happy. But I also tried the fried chicken with garlic noodles based on yelp comments. The noodles were fine, but the friend chicken was WAY too salty. So salty I could barely eat them. The food came out pretty quickly, and nearly all at once. The popcorn chicken was typical, pretty good, but my favorite part was the fried basil on top. It also comes with a can of spice that you can put on. My entree, the rock crab, was SO good and extremely filling. I wasn't able to finish it all! Amazing service right off the bat! The girl working as the cashier/server was super attentive and asked all the right questions to make sure we liked our food/had everything we needed. I got the pho ga which had a clean, clear, light broth. Felt like a homemade soup and it wasn't too sweet or too salty. The portion size was also good with a good amount of chicken and noodles. They also use thicker rice noodles for the pho which was a nice surprise. My boyfriend got the chicken fried steak which had good breading and wasn't too oily. Really good Vietnamese fusion comfort food! We got the curry and the Taiwanese fried chicken cutlet set and the portions are good and the rice was cooked perfectly. The chicken was so juicy and flsvorful, I can't wait to try their other dishes. We also had the iced coffee with crema and boba and it was b o m b. Do not miss it. TL;DR - Only the best service and yummy food! The first time I ordered from Chic n Time was when I was craving chicken wings. It was a place close by enough to walk to and near the park that I decided to give it a try. First of all, I did NOT know they weren't even open yet!! I called in, the manager took my order and I went to pick it up 15 mins later but when I got there, I was confused. The hours said it wasn't open yet? Welp, I called them again and he said just come on in! Wow!!! He took my order even before they opened just to make me happy. I have to say, this wouldn't be a five star review if I didn't talk about how delicious the wings were too. They had lots of jalapenos and were very juicy and crispy. The second time I ordered, I got a chicken salad (cabbage salad base) and sat outside. They were very gracious and brought my meal outside to me, turned on the heater (I was the only one eating outside) and even brought me water. This isn't a sit down and a server comes to you place, it's a come to the cashier place, so it was very nice to have this service here. The chicken tasted like popcorn chicken seasoning. This is the second time I've been to Chic n' Time, and the food has been phenomenal each time. I ordered the Shrimp Rolls and Cajun Chicken Wings with a side of rice. The Shrimp Rolls include 6 rolls and contain peanuts; they were incredibly fresh and had a hint of mint. The Cajun Chicken Wings are served with broccoli and Jasmine rice or garlic noodles.
