I have been getting chicken here for 20 years and have really enjoyed it but I have a couple of comments for management 1. Value - not as good as it used to be . I understand food and labor costs have gone up but to be honest if there were an El Polo Loco in town you would have to up your game. 2. In the drive through this afternoon I ordered an eight piece combo . What we got was more like five pieces. Yes I know it was 5:15 and the drive through was busy but never the less we got less than I paid for. I generally love this place .. but the last few drive thru experiences hav not been good ! My order has not been rite ! I came across the bridge to get two salads I didn't want it to get soggy so I asked for pico on one and pico on the side on the other and sour cream and beans on the side .. and it comes w ranch ... when I got back home there was no pico on neither salad . There was one squirt of sour cream in the cup on the side .. and a lil tiny side of pico container.. not even 1 ounce.. so basically I had two dry salads for $24 plus gas and toll And when I called them back they told me all they could do was offer me some pico.. and laughed .. as a business owner.. one thing I hate is bad customer service!! We talkin about shredded lettuce the cheapest thing you can buy and serve as a vendor .. the problem should hav been addressed waaay better than that .. Been coming to this place for a long time now. I usually get their chicken tacos. Their buy one, get one deal. I always get the one with everything on it. I also get the chicken burrito and sometimes the whole chicken. The place isn't so fancy but the food is always so good. There are certain days and hours when the line on the drive thru is long. you cant go wrong with .79 cent tacos (recently raised 10 cents)... It used to be 69 cents on Wednesday's... to everyday. Although, i think not everyone was aware of the change. Every Wednesday would not fail, the looooooong drive through line. Eventually, we tried to go in & order... its surprisingly faster. After several attempts of giving them a second chance, after yesterday's meal, it's the last time I go here. Their chicken is juicy, but so BLAND! there is no flavor at all. Their spicy salsa, should be re-labeled as mild; also no flavor. The beans and rice are also lackless in flavor, I can get better tasting beans out of a Rosarita can of beans. The tortillas you get, I know they've been placed in that saran wrap but they always tear, stuck together, and you have to re-heat them. Affordable, flavorful roasted chicken meals. I usually order 2-4 piece chicken w/Spanish rice & either potato salad or coleslaw, comes w/tortillas or bread. Add some pico de gallo & red sauce, yum! Sometimes I order the chicken taco salad too. Wish they had those buy # chickens, get 1 free deals; would make me order here even more. I'd rather make a trip here than buying fried, fast food! I... don't understand why this is so highly rated on Yelp? I've eaten here a couple times. Each time I think, "well, maybe last time was just a fluke. Maybe they are very good! I must be missing something?" But each time, the food is just super bland. I've tried their rotisserie chicken, their burritos, their potato salad. I'm not one to salt prepared food (usually however it comes seasoned is fine) but this chicken desperately needs more flavor. The only dish I've had so far that I truly enjoyed was the cole slaw, and like, y'all, it's not Cole Slaw Express. The setting is fine for a fast food joint, but pretty much everyone gets food to go, so it doesn't need to be fancy, the service is serviceable but nothing outstanding or notable. The food comes relatively quickly, so I guess all of those are pluses, but nothing makes up for the main dish being just mediocre. read more

Nothing special here. Simple food, cheap ingredients. The breakfast burritos are at a fantastic price. $4.00 for Chorizo, eggs, beans, and potatoes. If the food was higher quality, as in it doesn't taste like Cisco product, I would have given it a higher rating. Perhaps hand made tortillas? House-made beans? The chicken salad is terrible. It has barely any lettuce and is all toppings, and is very unhealthy. It shouldn't be called a salad and it should be taken off the menu. I threw mine in the trash after taking one bite.Do not get this item. The tacos and burritos are ok. That is all. The salad is sooooo bad DON'T GET THE SALAD. You've been warned. The crunchy tacos are good for the price but nothing to write home about. The food at chicken express is only good in relation to the price. If I could give zero stars I would. One of the employee her name is Mariana I believe had a major attitude when I asked a simple question. I asked for the manager, the manager apparently wasn't there. When I asked the other associate for help and she was sweet and answered my questions. The poor girl had to deal with a line of people by herself while the rude girl playing around with another gentleman that works there. I love this place. The chicken taco salad is my favorite. The Tacos are good but it takes 8 of them to fill me up and they're overpriced. I hope they see this review and fix the pricing. When I moved here from LA, I really missed El Pollo Loco. I used to drive to Clayton to get my Mexican chicken fix. Then I discovered the wonder of Chicken Express. In line I was sandwiched between a large white gentleman in a denim jacket, stained wifebeater and Dale Ernhardt Jr. trucker hat and an unkempt, frazzled woman who ordered no less than 23 tacos. Pros: The Chicken Taco Salad, 79 cent tacos and seasonal family chicken piece deals are the reasons I have been sent to pick up food here for years. For a fast food restaurant, the quality of the food has been excellent. The excellent quality has been maintained, because the food is freshly prepared! Between the tacos, burritos and taco salads, I am satisfied with the balanced composition of cheese, beans, salsa, lettuce and meat. Balance is what distinguishes between decent tacos and burritos and the average to sub-par ones at other restaurants or trucks (which tend to be 80% beans and rice, and 20% veggies and meat). The corn sides are great and the rotisserie chicken is cut into nice, sizable pieces for a group meal. Cons: At peak times, the drive through can get real busy, but so far I had no problems ordering and receiving my food in the time I expect to get in and out of the place. Bottom Line: This is a tremendously positive example of what a Mexican Rotisserie/Mexican style restaurant should be. The food is fresh and the tacos are prepared in the open, in front of the customers. Other places like In N' Out, Chipotle, Baja Fresh all have adopted a common principle that fast food should be both efficient and freshly prepared. Chicken Express is no different in its demonstrated commitment to a menu centered on fresh, well prepared Mexican food. read more

I'm sorry, but when my hubby and first tried this place, we were expecting something that tasted more like the Peruvian style chickens we had in the DC area. The chicken here was mostly mediocre at best, lacking in flavor and not having very impressive side dishes. I guess for Vallejo's standards they would earn at least 3 stars, however, being from the city and having dined in various part of the bay area and other states, it just doesn't hold up to some of the other places I've tried.
