Chicken Express has been here for years and is located off of the corner of Redwood and Broadway in Vallejo. They have a small little parking lot and even have a drive-thru. Service is always fast and this is the place to go for some fresh rotisserie chicken and I personally like their chicken taco salad. My family orders the rotisserie pieces and the skin is really crunchy, the kids love it and we also enjoy how it's already cut up as opposed to buying a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store. As the name says it, it's all chicken. They have sides to get too like garlic bread, pico de Gallo, mashed potatoes, and drinks. I've grown up getting their chicken taco salad and its a pretty large meal with chips, chicken, ranch, cheese, lettuce, sour cream, beans, pico, etc. the rotisserie meals don't come with sides so you have to order sides in addition. A healthier choice compared to Popeyes or KFC every once in a while. They don't have indoor dining right now and glad to see this business open for many years, another growing up in Vallejo staple. read more

Many years ago, I came here all the time for their crunchy chicken tacos with sour cream! Yummy! They're so light (not greasy at all)! I went through the drive thru and I ordered a 2 piece white Breast/Wing, my sides were mashed potatoes and gravy and Coleslaw; I also ordered a corn on the side. My order was $8.76 I gave $1.00 tip. I finally arrived home and ready to eat when my order wasn't a two piece White. It was a thigh/leg. I immediately called the restaurant and gave them my name and told them my Dilemma, the young gentleman put me on hold and returned and said you have to bring it back. Long story short I arrived I explained to the young lady whom was rude never apologized took the food never looked in the bag. I told her Never-mind making my order over I would like a refund. Chicken Express is perfect when I want some rotisserie chicken with a Mexican twist. You practically can get rotisserie chicken elsewhere, but what makes this place different are the staples that come with your meal. I absolutely enjoy their rice, beans, and tortillas with my chicken. Funny as it sounds I've never had anything like it and it just made sense. It's not the best looking place as it appears to be a little old and run down. Parking lot isn't as large and can be difficult to maneuver when their drive thru is busy. One look at the very neutral salsa in the single pasty-white flour taco bombarded by shredded letttuce flooded my mind with memories of Macdonalds, KFC, BK, and every other big chain 'restaurants' that caters to the lowest common denominator. The chicken taco was pretty bland with no punch, though I must say the chicken taco salad was better; I can see that it would make a very apt hot summer's day salad as it was pretty refreshing and none of the the ingredients looked sad or withering. I have been going to this place for years it does not have an appealing ambiance , they are pricy and have the audacity to charge for condiments I ordered rice and beans the cashier said I would have to pay for condiments unless I ordered a burrito or a taco what if people don't eat all that other stuff? This is a great place to get food when you don't feel like cooking. I love their tacos, taco chicken salad and their rotisserie chicken dinner deals. The food is great all the time and great prices for the portions you get too. They have the best pick de Gallo and green salsa too. It's a great place for catering large gatherings too. I purchased the Super Chicken Burrito, on 4/21/24, the burrito was so dried, that it didn't include any of the other ingredients just a little chicken, and lots of dried-up beans, rice, and cheese. I also purchased a bag of stale tortilla chips. Very disappointed and I wasted my money. Simply amazing! I have purchased food from chicken express twice and each time was great. My recent purchase was by going through the drive thru. I thought the wait was descent, not to long. Pretty bomb place for some grub! Chicken Express has been in this location for as long as I can remember, and always makes for some good eats! Their chicken is tender, juicy, and most importantly very tasty! My go to sides with the family pack are the re-fried beans and Spanish rice, which are both great, and some packages of corn tortillas as well. Can't forget the pico de gallo! This family pack will last you a while, which is awesome if you never tire of chicken like myself, lol. Disappointed!! Ordered a Super Chicken Burrito only to find out it was mostly beans and barely any chicken inside it. I guess it really is hard times and it's trickling down to the customers. I wouldn't mind if the size of the tacos remained the same as before. Also, the filling is not consistent. On some of the tacos it had little lettuce. Service is always great. We have been coming here for years, even though it is out of the way. Any time we are driving past Vallejo, we have to stop here. The best thing - the rotisserie chicken. Don't mess around. It is called "Chicken" Express for a reason. I eat rotisserie chicken wherever I can and this one is legit. We get the Family pack (the whole chicken) which includes 2 sides and tortillas. We always get the refried beans, coleslaw and corn tortillas. All solid. It also includes salsa. Get the spicy pico de gallo and the green salsa. Delicious! Yes, sometimes things are missed when you go through the drive through, we always check our bag before leaving. If something is missed, no problem, they are happy to make it right. They have agua frescas that say "fresh", so I asked if it was made "fresh" that morning from a jar full of flavor powder and the lady said they boil the fresh fruit to make it. That's just how a Mexican house would! LOVE it! We had both the tamarind and Jamaica and they both taste like the flavors were extracted from the fresh fruit. The tamarind one you can see and feel the thickness from the pulp. Place looks ghetto because the people eating there and tops could use a wipe down, but food it's actually good. I've been here a few times and have realized that their chicken meals are okay. There really isn't anything that special about them. I wish they had an option to get some garlic butter slathered on the chicken pieces, because that would raise the bar. Also needs a bit more salt. The things to get are the chicken tacos. I love the crispy tacos, but the real value are the soft tacos. There is a lot more chicken in the soft, because you can naturally fit more chicken in a soft tortilla. The service and food are usually good. I have on occasion had a "so so"burrito meaning that flavor was off or there was very little chicken portions inside. However, I just recently had a bad experience. I ordered a customized super burrito but received something other than what I ordered. I didn't get upset about the mix up because mistakes happen but what did upset me was the service I received when I went back for correction of the order. At the window the worker approached and without even asking if I had the original burrito she asks "are you the one with wrong burrito order?". "Yes" I replied. She proceeded to say that without the original burrito they can't just give me a new one and that her manager is the one that made the original burrito. First, how about asking me if I had the original burrito with me (I forgot to bring it back but that's okay and I was prepared to purchase a new one). Next, it doesn't matter who made it because it was still wrong. As if to say because her manager made it then it must have been correct. The foil was marked correctly but the contents inside were a different story. She started to close the drive through window before I could even respond. I said "well we still need to eat and need the burrito regardless". I paid for another burrito and had my daughter check it for accuracy before we left. I didn't appreciate being treated as if I was lying or trying to get something for free. I've been going there for many years and I have never asked for anything that I didn't pay for. Next time I suggest you all not to make assumptions and use a more diplomatic approach to resolve the issue. I've been a loyal customer until now. Meh. Just "a'ight". I was hungry and craving Mexican food as usual. Someone recommended this spot, which is close to Kaiser (where we were). Ordered 2 crispy chicken tacos, a chicken soft taco with sour cream and a regular burrito with chicken w/ re-fried beans and hot salsa. The very first moment biting into the crispy chicken taco was my favorite and the reason why is because it tasted like a taco shell from Taco Bell. After that everything went downhill. Very bland chicken and everything else was as basic as it gets. They left the sour cream out of my soft taco so I had to go in and request it. The gal working didn't trust/believe me and insisted on going through the different transactions to check my order. Had this happened anywhere else it would have bothered me but then it dawned on me that she may have been conditioned to not take my word for it. No problem. I do like that they have a smaller version of the chicken burrito( chicken burrito jr.).Their portions are sharable unless your greedy like me.
