The place itself is teeny tiny. Not a whole lot of space. The food. Well for lunch it's about $7.00 complete with curry soup, green salad with a house peanut dressing, choice of fried, brown or steamed rice, crispy won ton and your meat. Taste wise was okay. Kind of hard when you have your favorite spots. I had the chicken satay with cucumber salad and mister had BBQ chicken. They were good...not great. Don't get me wrong. Been driving past this place for a while now and finally decided to try this place out. I ordered their beef pad kee mao and I really like that you can choose your level of spicy for this dish. Personally I like really spicy foods, but most restaurants only have one level of spice for this dish which is really spicy. This gives those who don't enjoy as much spice to be able to try and enjoy pad kee mao too. I ordered my food to go, and for $10 their portions were pretty generous - I was able to make 2 meals out of the amount of food they gave. They also serve a variety of drinks and have Buy 1 get 1 free for a select number of drinks. I got their Thai tea which was flavorful and at $2.50 for 2, what a steal! If you live around here and are interested in some good Thai food, this place is worth checking out. I'll definitely be back to try their other dishes! read more

I was patient and waited on hold. Got my order and he repeated it back to me exactly. Arrived 20 mins later to a very busy parking lot shared with a laundromat, and BMC Pho. Cashier was pleasant, looks like he was the only one working. A lot of people seem to come in for drinks here. Fresh rolls-Perfect for vegans because it's like goi cuon, but all veggies, Not very impressive, but I LOVE the basil dipping sauce. Tom Kha Kai- Rich and savory, perfect medium spice. Pad See Ew- Good, but did not like the beef at all. The beef had a overly tenderized chalky texture. This places also opts to use american broccoli instead of Chinese broccoli. Approx. The service here is horrible. The girls behind the register chit chatting away about their life. They gave me attitude when I asked about our food since we were on a time crunch. I'm assuming it's because I interrupted their gossip. The soup that comes with the food was bland and not hot. However it is understaffed and the customer service is not all there. The quality of the food has gone down and the place is in a desperate need of remodeling. The service has been changed from my last visit. They seem more nice and helpful explaining the menu and deals with boba drinks. It is true that I doesn't look trendy but it is greatly large for parents with baby strollers or larger parties. The hot tea is basic but it's still takes great. I recommend to try flat noodles with no egg and yellow vegetables curry soup. They do carry veggie options, just ask! Food isn't exactly spice it is very very mellow and creamy at times. read more

Chillin' Thai is a pretty good Thai place. Of course, like some other reviewers mentioned, there is only one server and methinks she is not too happy about that. The great part about this place was that there is BOGO drinks, so we got the Thai Iced Tea and it wasn't that sweet. We ordered the Duck Curry and Kai Kua, which was really a first for both the dishes. The Duck Curry was alright, with a few pieces of duck and some bell pepper, onion and pineapple. Really, there was more sauce than rice so you could essentially drink it like a soup. Though I doubt you want to do that. We chose medium and it wasn't that spicy for me (it was a tiny little kick), but my friend thought it was enough. So it depends on your spice levels. Kai Kua is a flat, wide noodle dish that is stir-fried with squid, chicken and egg, along with celery and lettuce. The whole dish is sprinkled with ground peanuts. The flavor here is very mild but was good. There was no wok heat, however. Overall, thought this place was ok. Service pretty much ended after we paid the bill. So if you want water because you're somehow choking on that little bit of ice water left... um, you're out of luck. Like I was. read more

I just ate this place for lunch today after passing by many times. Got their lunch special for $5.99 which was basically just a choice with rice, fried wontons and salad. I got the red curry which was pretty tasty and came with lots of beef. Also got a Thai iced tea (boba) for $1.99 which was b1g1 free but the lady forgot to put in boba. There were a lot of people at the restaurant during lunch and they don't have that many tables so if you plan to eat there expect some wait. It also looked like one person was doing everything there including taking orders on the phone, taking orders from dine-in customers and serving drinks. I know that we were put on hold for a while before they took our order on the phone. However, they said 20 mins and it was right on time when we got there. All in all it was good price for lunch for a tasty curry. The dressing for the salad came out funky and I thought it had gone bad but after taking a bite it was good. Would I go back? Three and a half stars rounded down to 3 because I think there is room for improvement. FOOD: 1) Kai Kua - Big noodles with chicken, squid, bean sprouts, onion, ground peanut, and egg. When the dish arrived, it looked bland. It was a light color and it shouted "I have no flavor". However, after we mixed in the peanuts and took our first bite, we were both relieved to find that it had taste. Regardless, I had to add Sriracha to give it a little more kick since my tastebuds have turned me into a spice lunatic. 2) Green Curry with Beef - This curry was DELICIOUS! Such a yummy, sweet, rich, and perfectly creamy coconut flavor. The eggplant, bamboo, bell peppers were such a perfect combination in the soup. They were very generous with the ingredients in the soup as well! The only thing about this delicious dish that I could really complain about is that the beef was really tough! Should've gotten chicken, but my boyfriend is a beef lover. It also comes with a plate of rice...kind of hard rice if you ask me...but oh well...curry was awesome! 3) Thai Iced Tea - BOGOF! Awesome! It wasn't spectacular, but it was good thai iced tea! And the fact that you get one free made it taste even better! SERVICE: Here's where I had to take off a star. Very young and friendly people working here. But, the service was kind of slow and it felt like the workers were kind of inexperienced. When we got in, we were told to sit anywhere. Unfortunately the first table we sat at was pretty sticky...guess they didn't clean it. We moved seats, and our second table was also sticky, but the young man who gave us menus quickly wiped it down for us. After the young lady, who's also the cashier, took our order, the young man who gave us our menu first had forgotten we ordered, and brought menus back to us. DURING our meal, they swept the floors AND mopped the floors. Why??? It was only 8:45 and they don't close until 10pm. That was no bueno for me. At least after we finished our meal, the waitress came back to ask us if everything was alright. HA! FINAL VERDICT: After having below average Thai food at a local mom & pop restaurant, I was pretty happy to have yummy curry! Gave it a "C" grade. It was just ok. A little too sweet for a Pad Thai. I don't hate it or love it! Beef Pad See Ew... Gave it a "B-" grade. The noodle was chewy/springy, which is good. Taste was slightly better than average. The noodles didn't have that "wok fire burn" to it...those that know what that is should understand. The food and service was good, but as we were signing for the bill I noticed something crawling up the wall and as I looked closer I noticed that it was a Roach. I wish more people knew about this place because I feel like this restaurant deserves more recognition and customers! Whenever my boyfriend and I are craving something nice and spicy, we always come here for their duck curry. And fyi, if you ask for super spicy (like I always do) be prepared, they don't mess around. The curry has pieces of duck, duck skin, red and green bell peppers, thai chili, tomato and pineapples. Another one of my favorites from Chillin Thai is definitely their Chicken Satay. They season the chicken just right and their peanut sauce is divine! They also give fresh diced cucumber to wash your palette of any flavor and get your mouth ready for the next entree! If you ever pass by here, TRY IT. I hate to see little Ma and Pa places shut down because people are too scared to try new things and would rather eat at a McDonalds or the Yoshinoya that's next door. Parking was relatively easy to find. No major complaint. Although... chillin thai could definitely use a face lift. It's not the greatest looking restaurant. Its a little hole in the wall. This review is for my to-go order! I have been coming to Chillin' Thai Cuisine for many years since it is one of the few thai restaurants in El Monte, CA. I ordered a pad thai with fried tofu ($7.50) and a pad see ew with chicken ($7.50) through the phone and they told me it would be ready in about 20 minutes. I came in 20 minutes and had to wait an additional 20 minutes. I was a little irritated (partially because I was hangry)! The food is pretty decent! I would say it is average, but the price is reasonable for the amount of noodles they give you. I really really liked the fried tofu with my pad thai! If you guys don't like fried tofu, they also have tofu that is not fried. I was a little sad they forgot to give me my lime with my pad thai, but it was still good! The pad see ew was also good! This review is not about the restaurant, but ALL about this girl right here, who said her name was Sarai, the most rude and disrespectful person I've ever encountered here. I have been a regular for YEARS at this location, and will continue to be but my goodness how I hope to not have to encounter this girl again or at least hope she has a better attitude on the next visit. Before the pandemic, I used to eat AT this location several times a week....Due to Covid the inside had been closed for dine in for some time, so I placed an over the phone order as i always do now in the new covid guidelines, then drove in. Upon arrival, noticed the inside was finally open! Excited, I asked since our food wasn't ready yet, if we could eat at the location instead since we didn't know they were open inside again and she says in the most rude and monotone voice, "no you cant, since you've already done a phone order." Which I hadn't even paid for yet.....nor was it even done cooking! Confused, I asked again after being ignored multiple times, explaining that I don't understand the reasoning to denying us to just sit and eat it, we can change it to dine in....again we hadn't paid and the food was still being cooked... she just wouldn't. She just said no, its already being prepared and that it's not up to her it's the manager, and that she's not going to risk losing her job for me.....so I asked to speak with them since I'm a long time customer and I'm sure they know me and would be okay with it.....she again denied me an audience and "the managers a he" and shut me down again by this time, she's already printed the recipt and waving it in my face to sign.....then I asked for her name....she ignored me by picking up a phone call, telling me to hold on, and walking away... I had to ask a total of 3 times, until the 3rd time when she raised her voice and spelt it out for me.....I had enough by this point, I was nothing but kind and excited to see the facility open again, just to be approached by such a negative energy. Shame on you for giving this small business such a horrible imagine. It takes a lot more energy to be so unkind than it is to be pleasant. I hope this finds management and is addressed properly because I'm sure she would never treat your customers the way she treated us if you were standing next to her. read more

I was looking for a good and affordable Thai place and decided to try this place out and it is delicious! I ordered the lunch special that comes with a side salad , soup of the day (vegetable), choice of meat or tofu (I ordered the beef with broccoli in oyster sauce) and choice of steamed or fried rice (fried rice everyday!) as well as fried wontons. I loved every bite! It was more than enough food and ended up taking some home. Service was very fast and I only paid $8.50! Just keep in mind they use real Thai Spiciness so mild is already a bit spicy. They are very fast and efficient with how they make and prepare their order. We ordered the large Tom Kha seafood made with shrimp, squid, Mussels, scallops, fish fillets and mushrooms; seasoning with lemon grass, coconut cream, fish sauce, sugar and lime juice; a rich and savory soup. The other dish we had was half a BBQ chicken with rice. The chicken was tender with Hot and Sweet Dipping Sauce, so delicious. The quality of the food has changed and it's just different now. I walked in last week and they were playing hard core rap music with very vulgar language. The language was very offensive and not appropriate at all for a restaurant. I like rap music too, but in a restaurant with customers and kids listening? Umm... no!
