Chimes is a beautiful joint with tons of craft beers and great atmosphere. But let's be honest, I don't review restaurants, I review moz sticks. So let's get down to it. Quantity: 7 For 11 dollars, you get 4 jumbo moz stick. These sticks definitely fill you up and then some. However, I feel as though the proportions are off. The crust to cheese ratio is off, as there is way to much cheese to the amount of crust Moz stick taste: 3 Something is off with these mozzarella sticks. Whether it is the over cooked crust, or the cheese that just tastes cheep and fake, I'm not a fan. Seasoning in the crust is almost none existent, leaving me with an after taste that resembles eating great value string cheese. Sauce: 2 This is not proper marinara sauce. Really adds nothing to the dish. The tomato's in the sauce are bitter, and not a hint of sweetness is added to balance out the acidity. Lacks proper amounts of parmesan and parsley. Overall: 3 While I love Chimes for many other reasons, I do not love there moz sticks. Lacks almost everything that makes a moz stick delicious. I will not be grabbing these again. Pretty good food. Mediocre service they're very lax, but overall it's a great place to grab a beer and a sandwich.

As far as college bars go, Chimes is pretty solid. Food is pub-like, but very passable with the whole shebang of Southern favorites like hush puppies, po-boys, and oysters. Oysters are salty and shelly, but with half off from 4-7pm, and already at $13/dozen, the price is absolutely incredible, regardless that they're not the most tasty. Hush puppies were thick and chewy and perfectly dippable with some outstanding habanero hot sauce, complimentary at each table. The bar area is quite tiny for a college bar. 4 TVs but only 1 that's super large. Beer list is 40 strong on draft, though it seems that they kick fast as 3 separate beers I ordered, they were already out. Prices are solid with macros going for around $3 and the rarer ones $6ish. Bottle list is long but mostly come in bombers, perfect for sharing, but at a hefty price. Chimes was a fun night out in Baton Rouge, but I think it does need darts or shuffle board to make it a must. Parking lot in the back, but it's small and might fill up quickly. read more

I decided to try this place on our way to Mississippi and it didn't disappoint. Our server was very helpful when we told her that this was our first time at this restaurant. We ordered the crawfish mac and cheese, blackened shrimp nachos, crawfish ettoufee and a few drinks. Everything was great! The service was great as well. This is not a good place to eat. My crab cake was not cooked and another person at my table had a large piece of paper in hers. The manager's defense was that it was pre-cooked, and I had to say I would pay for it to make him stop defending this crab cake that was like mushy tuna fish. Maybe off day? Blackened Alligator bites were wayyy too salty and maybe a little bit undercooked Salad dressing was overly oily.... Like the dressing had separated and no one stirred it before pouring. Hush puppies were decent. My stuffed shrimp and catfish were excellent. Sweet potato fries needed to cook a bit longer... Very mixed review coming. We arrived at 2:15 pm on a Sunday, so not a major rush. Tons on empty tables yet it took 20 minutes to get seated. Once seated, we received some of the slowest service ever. I mean SLOW. Asked for no mayo on our po boys, both came with mayo still. Sadly, we couldn't get the server to come and fix it - so there's two meals ruined. The crawfish fries - fries were good, but the crawfish were basically fried bits of batter, no crawfish. Just not good. The bathrooms had two stalls clogged - up and downstairs. No attention to the cleanliness either. And it wasn't rush hour at all. Now, the cheese grits were great! And the his puppies were also a hit. Me and my family come here all the time! It's such an amazing southern restaurant with a great atmosphere and great food. The waiters are all very unique and have character, and also provide great service. I would recommend the spinach artichoke dip with toast and buffalo wings as appetizers (my regular). For a meal, I was recommend just about anything on the menu! There is also an oyster special on Tuesday nights, so that's popular. This is the #1 recommended restaurant for anyone from out of town who's wanting to try something good at a decent price. read more

Amazing food!! My son had the Catfish Perdu (fried catfish topped with crawfish étouffée) and it was so good! Heard about the Chimes through yelp and wanted to check it out. I ended up going for Lunch and sat at the bar. A lot of times you get the true experience of the restaurant by sitting at the bar. Because that is where all of the action seems to be. Bartenders were very friendly and provided good banter. A mix of business and college patrons. I had the crawfish étouffée and it did not disappoint. Good flavor lots of crawfish at a reasonable price. Parking was a challenge but at the end of the day it was worth it. An absolute must visit if you're in Baton Rouge! Everything is good there and the atmosphere is really nice (recommend the mozzarella logs and the T-Bird). As a staple of Baton Rouge, this place never lets you down. You know exactly what you'll get every time and let's all admit that consistency is one of the most difficult things for a restaurant. Whether you want to try some great draft beer, delicious gulf oysters, or Sunday brunch with mimosas, The Chimes has it all. My particular favorites include the charbroiled oysters, boudin omelet, and Chimes chicken club. But honestly I cannot think of too many items I don't like. This particular location is usually packed and offers some parking challenges but with all those great beers...shouldn't we all be Ubering anyway? It was packed tonight, but we were seated very quickly since there was only two of us. The service was awesome! The waitress was great and the food came out quick. We got the spinach dip, fried shrimp platter, and lagniappe cake sandwich. The spinach dip itself was good, but the fried bowties were not fresh. They were limp and soft, but we ate them anyways. The good news is that you can always ask for more fried bowties (no charge). The second batch that came out were a lot better. The fried shrimp platter was yummy. It came with a salad, fries, and hush puppies. The fried shrimp had a nice crispy batter. The salad had a pepper jelly dressing and it was delicious. The fries and hush puppies were great too. Sadly, I can't say the same for the lagniappe (crab) cake sandwich. I subbed the bun for a croissant (no charge). The crab cake itself was a sad, thin, soggy, mushy patty. I was very disappointed. Would not recommend the lagniappe cake sandwich. The serving size of everything were large and it the ambiance was fun. They had football games playing and everyone was having a good time. read more

The Chimes is AMAZING! But beware: it can get very crowded during the weekends and especially on game days. That being said, it is right on campus and is a great place to catch a drink before going to tailgate! My favorite dishes here are the lagniappe sandwich (a crab cake sandwich), the grilled chicken salad with the homemade Tabasco dressing - seriously so yummy - and of course the raw oysters! Make sure you check out happy hour for 1/2 those. Great selection of draft and bottled beer. Overall one of my favorite spots in town. Be sure and check out which bands are playing at the Varsity too and have dinner before the show! read more

Friendly wait-staff, local place next to LSU campus. Food is decently priced. We actually went here twice, not necessarily because we loved the place, but because it's one of few options around LSU open late. I had the macaroni and cheese, and it was good. Incredibly rich (which is really weird for me to admit considering I am a Connoisseur of the mac and cheese), and while tasty, had something "off". I don't know what, maybe it was Velveeta, though I hope not. It was tasty, but it was one dish of the mac I could not finish - not for lack of appetite, and I ordered the small one, but for lack of lustre. Earlier that same day (I know, like I said, not a whole lot of options) I had the shrimp po-boy. Tasty, but unfortunately some of the shrimps were actually cold. Ugh. Stopped into Chimes on a bike tour in Baton Rouge and I am glad I did. The local acadiana favorites on the menu were excellent. My group had appetizers of, blackened alligator, fried pickles, boudin balls, all were excellent. We were there on a Sunday afternoon in time for the Sunday Brunch menu that I highly recommend. I ordered what was essentially an oysters eggs benedict with a Louisiana twist. It was fried oysters with poached eggs covered in a hollandaise sauce on top toasted and buttered french bread, super yummy. The place is super affordable with a great beer selection. We were here for the beer so the review is a bit slanted to the brews. Food was ok, I had the blackened shrimp nachos, they were a'right I guess but I'm not a big fan of the cheese in a can, plus the shrimp didn't really look blackened. My partner had a cup of the gumbo which was delicious. The beer selection is really really good though. Lots of variety and prices are appropriate for the sizes the offered, which start with a 13oz, then 20oz and up. Odd there are no 16oz we saw but that's part of their niche I guess. I was surprised to see such a good quality and variety of brews, most places are afraid to have sours and strong ales on tap but this place was out there and glad they were. The bar area was nice, but we never got to sit at the bar since it was always full and on a Sunday night mind you! But we did sit in the bar area at a table and was waited on, which was just fine.
