We came here as a group of nine people. I don't know that this restaurant sees large groups very often. Our waitress was friendly, but she's very easily became flustered with so many people requesting so many different things of her. The many mentions that because they get so many tours that they are willing to provide samples of several items to customers on request. I think aside from myself and my Little and everybody was making request of different available samples. The waitress I don't think anticipated a group this heavy. She had to go and get a larger tray. She had a lot of help. Taking orders and trying to make separate checks was very difficult for her. We did order a lot of food and a lot of drinks. A great time was had. I had the pork scallopini. I wasn't really expecting much of the pork, but actually it was phenomenal. It was cooked to perfection. It was juicy and tender, not at all hard chewy or overdone. A lot of food was ordered at our table, but I can only speak to that one dish, personally. My little one and I shared my entrée. It was definitely more than enough for the both of us. And like I said, it was darn good. The restaurant seems like it would be the perfect place to hang out at the bar and catch a baseball game or the local Louisiana State University team playing. I could see this definitely being a fun hangout spot. There is an upstairs area, but we didn't go and check that space out. Aside from our kind of irritable, seeming waitress, everything was really nice. All the other hostess staff were very friendly and sweet. All the other waiters that were helping our waitress were very friendly and were nice enough to make small talk with us. It was a fun time. The food was great. Was in town traveling on work and had a group dinner here. It was a beautiful night so we were able to sit upstairs on the patio. The location has a lot of seating. The music was a little bit loud, but that tends to go with the atmosphere. We had, several appetizers and all were tasty. Our group especially liked the grilled alligator. What a fantastic place! The ambience alone would be enough to bring us in, but the food makes us want to return. Ate here for lunch, seated quickly, service was friendly and food was okay. Vibe is cool, you can tell the place has been around for a while. It's an old movie theater that has been turned into a restaurant and it's very cool. The food was somewhat underwhelming- not terrible, not wonderful. The pork chops were smothered in a too sweet root beer sauce that really obscured the fact that they were perfectly cooked- a shame! The chime club sandwich was just too much. I couldn't eat a half of a half of it. Red beans and rice- good sausage, but overall under seasoned. Chicken fried chicken- fine, not great, and the Mac and cheese was disappointing. There are multiple locations of The Chimes in LA. I went to the 3357 Highland Rd Baton Rouge, LA location. My friends and I were in Baton Rouge for a friends' wedding and we were staying at The Cook Hotel and Conference Center at LSU. On a Saturday afternoon, we were seated upstairs at the open-air bar and patio. It was very spacious and you can glance over to LSU's campus. The tables had umbrellas so that protected us from the sun. There was no LSU game that day so it was mostly just groups hanging out. There were so many options on the menu - South Louisiana Cuisine, Cajun & Creole dishes, Seafood entrees, Po Boys, Hamburgers and so much more. We ordered a small duck and sausage gumbo, BBQ shrimp poboy, and large crawfish etouffee. The food came out quickly and it tasted delicious. Service was wonderful. This is one of my go to spots in Baton Rouge.... Love the iced tea...... I tried two new dishes this time instead of the usual. The grilled catfish with spinach was a very cool and refreshing dish. The slight hint of lemon really set off the flavor . Now the sweet potato fries...... like candy that melts in your mouth. Loved it. Nowwwwww the corn and shrimp soup tasted like it was poured out of a precooked plastic bag that you buy from your local grocer that you added cayenne to. I will not be ordering that again. Checked out Chimes this past weekend and the seafood gumbo and blackened gator was so good I had to visit again. The upstairs is great with the LSU vibes. Service was outstanding, first day I had Bella, and second time had Dani, both were super nice. I will be back next time in Baton Rouge. Seeking to provide me with a taste of Louisiana experience, my Louisiana friends to me to lunch at Chimes so I could eat a Po' Boy. Apparently for the authentic experience, the sandwich needs to be made on a certain type of bread, and Chimes uses the proper bread. It's a type of French bread made with less flour and more water, lighter and fluffier than traditional French bread. I ordered the Shrimp Po' Boy. If you order it "dressed," it comes with mayonnaise, ketchup, pickles, lettuce and tomato. I asked for mine with only lettuce added. The bread was indeed lovely, just slightly crisp on the outside and very soft (but not mushy) on the inside. The shrimp was lightly breaded and very tasty. The sandwich came with a side of fries, which were delicious. Chimes is located just outside the LSU campus and is a preferred location on game days. On this midweek day in July the atmosphere was energized but fairly subdued. Service was quick and polite. read more

Decided to take my fiancé out for a meal, The Chimes was the only place open till 11:00 PM on a Monday and figured it would be a good fit considering we've been here in the past and have not had any issues until tonight. The service was good but very slow. The place was almost full so we understood the wait. We ordered our food and waited about an hour and a half to finally get our salads because they were so behind on the food. We were enjoying ourselves so we didn't mind the wait, however, what changed the atmosphere for us really quickly was when a cockroach about 4-5 inches long flew down from the ceiling towards our table and landed on the wall directly next to my fiancés head. We are terrified of cockroaches so naturally we jumped out of our seats. I ended up swatting the roach off the wall and stepping on it. Shortly after our food arrives. After what just happened, we were no longer in the mood to eat, paid our tab and left. I went to chimes on a Saturday (LSU game day!) with a few friends. The restaurant was packed and the food was pretty good! My beer was skunked which sucked & i was charged for a new one. I got the white chocolate bread pudding and the Mac and cheese. Both were decent - not the best I've ever had but pretty delicious. The service was really good for how busy the restaurant was. It also had a nice vibe - the interior was spacious and well decorated. The rooftop bar was cool too. The biggest problem was my skunked beer. I ordered a Budweiser on tap and it tasted terrible. I asked our waiter for a new one (because this one tasted bad) and he brought me a bottle instead. I was expecting this to be comped because the beer was bad but it wasn't. I was lucky enough to visit the Chimes for brunch in July. I can't imagine even getting in here when LSU is in session...it must be filled on game days! Definitely Get here early for brunch though. I arrived a little bit before 10:30 and there were already ten people ahead of us in line. It was a nice enough day to sit on the roof deck. Lots of shade and plenty of big a%* fans to help you stay cool. All of their brunch cocktails are served in a pint glass...amazing. I had the club omelet which was chock full of ham, bacon, and two kinds of cheese. The stars were the cheese grits and biscuit. I am so sad I couldn't finish my grits! Chimes is a solid place to eat and it is located right off of LSU's campus. Look, I know a lot of people have fond memories of stumbling out of chimes throughout college. I am not that guy. Not that I have never consumed a bunch of drinks in a bar, I just haven't consumed a bunch of drinks in this specific bar. I want you to know that going in so you understand this is a food review, not an I got so lit that I took off my pants in 25-degree weather review. Now that we are clear, on to the review. I usually end up here for lunch but have eaten dinner here a few times as well. The menu is pretty vast although I usually stick with one of the salads. I would suggest the blackened shrimp as it is my favorite. There is also a fried crawfish salad that is good if you want a less healthy salad. In addition to salads, there are burgers, po-boys, and seafood. There is a reason that Chimes is so popular. Yes, they have an S-ton of different beers and booze but the food is the reason you should come here you heathen. Pro tip: Use the parking lot in the back. Street parking can suck. read more
