I read the previous reviews before I went, so I had pretty low expectations and I was pleasantly surprised! I went to Chimy's as part of celebration and got to sample different nacho varieties in addition to the chimichanga I ordered.\ The chicken and green chile nachos were really great. The chips were loaded down with tons of chicken and fresh tasting green chiles. The queso had a really good flavor. I was impressed! I ordered the beef/chicken fajita chimichanga and it was perfect! It was perfectly fried with large pieces of peppers inside the changa. The meat was tender and it came with a side of queso to dip in. At 5.99 the price was just right. So, this chimichanga wasn't just "good for six bucks" or "good for a beer joint" this was actually one of the best I've ever had. Look down on me if you will. Perhaps my tastes are cheap, but if you're that snooty then you can just go hang out at the winery up the street. I'm hangin' out with the cheap Tex-Mex. I had a $5.50 happy hour margarita and found it to be very potent. I will definitely go back... just not on a Friday night because it was pretty crazy. Awesome cheap food and good margaritas. I like Chimy's better than other taco restaurants due to their condiment bar. I always like condiment bars opposed to just modifying how different tacos come. I'm not the most picky but when it comes to my Hispanic food palette, I do not like some of the popular flavor choices (such as cilantro, raw onions, etc). The condiment bar has salsa, tomatoes, lettuce, ketchup, and normal utensils and napkins. They have ketchup because they have AWESOME FRIES! I participated in their happy hour. I got two of their crispy beef tacos and they were around $1 each. The taco shells were a bit bigger than the ones you get in the grocery stores. But it legit tasted like they used taco bell's seasoning packs. You know the ones you buy at the store that make a super greasy neon orange type mess. Yeah that was what was dripping from my tacos. Don't get me wrong, it's still good but not what I had been expecting. I may also be wrong in my assumption of their seasoning usage but again, my assumption. Working by this place, I come oftentimes with coworkers or to grab a to go soft taco back to the office. This place is definitely a gem in Fort Worth. The service is fast, the food is cheap, happy hour great, and the decor relaxed and eclectic. Having attended my undergrad at Texas Tech in Lubbock, TX where the original Chimy's is, I have to say my comparison of this Chimy's is going to be to that one. The food here is just as good as the original. I tend to think the Chicken is dry at times but still good (That's my only negative feedback about the food). I usually get the combo nachos and share with my friends while we drink the margarita's that they are oh, so known for. The atmosphere is great on the patio and inside. I'm not crazy that they opened up that back bar just because it's such an obscure back room and the vibe in the two rooms can be totally different (just like at the one in LBK), which I wouldn't think you would want that in a bar. I completely 100% love that they still support Tech here in Fort Worth, as well as TCU too. Although, previous reviewers are right, TCU students are seriously a different breed and that breed is Greek but that isn't a surprise because they are who fills the original Chimy's too. The cashier had the nerve to tip them selves $11 after I wrote $0. Thats a FRAUDULENT charge! It was my first time there. You go up to the register to order your food, they yell your name to come get it, why would I tip?? I called up there and the mod denied it until I told him I could see the charge and I have the duplicate Receipt and the amounts do not match. Five Stars for the best fish tacos I've ever had! I was a little skeptical when my friends would talk about it... I may have heard of this place for almost 6 months before finally getting excited about making the hour drive to Fort Worth to actually try it. The hour drive from Dallas was so worth it! I ordered the Grilled Fish Taco, Fried Fish Taco, Crispy Beef Taco, and Soft Beef Taco. Oh, and a huge Cadillac Margarita. Yeah yeah.. I got a "Daaang, girl" from the cashier, too. I should have just ordered 8 fish tacos cause OH MAN those were sooooo goooood. I was actually never a big fan of fish tacos but now, thanks to Chimy's, I'll probably be craving it often. The tacos were a good size, too, so I finished 3 and a 1/3 of the 4th. Wait..I guess that doesn't really make them sound big, huh? Meh! Had the nachos and this being my first time I was told the nachos were the bomb. But sadly it wasn't ! Not impressed at all, the chips were a little over cooked but the portions were Amazing you won't walk out hungry but I was left unsatisfied and even though I was full I was still hungry because it just didn't Hit the spot and for those of you who love to eat know what I'm talking about. The place looked cool it's a bit much just trying to figure out where the knight had to do with the beach decor? I had the chicken/fajita nacho combo and once you are given the huge plate you can pile it with your own toppings ranging from lettuce to salsa. I would of had a better time adding toppings but the smell of dirty rags and bugs flying around the food station made me wonder what the kitchen is cooking around with. I thought this place was gonna be huge...but nope. LOL...I ate a chimychanga which was very good...they have an option for it not to be fried, but I like things dipped and battered so I went that route. Their queso is amaze-balls....however...and maybe because I have a pallet that is more mature for margs (see my blue mesa post) ...I wasn't feeling the margaritas. Granted they two I had, Cadillac of course...served their purpose. I felt like a lush once I stood up...which was nice, however the sweet and sour mix here is tad too much for me. Very TCU/college kid hangout and it was packed on a Thursday night. We had to sit on the porch...which was cold. I would like to go back and try some more food on the menu, becuase my fat kid was itching to get her paws on a taco. Maybe try a frozen marg? We will see, but I will be back I'm certain! read more

Odd location, hidden behind a strip mall accessible down an alley. No way to find this accidentally. Not truly a restaurant, more like a college bar that serves food. Had a beef soft taco that was refried beans, ground beef, cheddar cheese -- and nothing else. No spices, not even salt and pepper. Also had a "Chimy"changa, which is little different: refried beans, some chicken (also unseasoned), cheese and flash-fried for about 15 seconds so it's greasy. Served with "queso" that was already congealed by the time I got my order. Counter service only, and the kitchen isn't even open late (closes at 10pm). I really don't know why they bother offering a menu at all. No effort, no skill, not a shred of originality or an effort at restaurantism. Food wasn't inedible but you'd have a better meal opening up a can at home. read more

Any place that prominently features "gutbusters" on their menu is okay by me. And for the uninitiated, that's a chimichanga. Everyone was raving about the tacos they had, fish or otherwise, I went for the pulled pork. Cool set up inside, order, then grab your drink and a table and wait for the food to come up then you head over to the garnishes and fix the thing up to your liking. Seriously my 7 yr old nephew can make a better quesadilla! I'm traveling here from Las Vegas. I don't eat this kind of food normally ( although I do know what great mexican Food is) I am fresh off a plane and starving. I came here because my best friend works right down the way. She warned me that it sucked but I didn't have many options. The beans are canned , the chicken has no flavor and the tortillas are literal Mission Tortillas anyone can get at a grocery store. Rude staff, cheap beef, bad management. Arrived early, asked for a Big12 game to be on a TV. Told we could get it by our sweet waitress. Finally got it on late in the 1st quarter. At the beginning of the 2nd quarter they changed the game and told us we could go somewhere else if we wanted to watch. Beef in the steak quesadillas was stringy. I get that there are only two TV feeds for the porch and you can't please everyone. But offer to move us inside, say I'm sorry, or some modicum of service instead of being rude and telling us it's our problem. Manager backed the rude staff up with no concession. This place honestly sucks. The service is terrible and the staff is just generally unfriendly. I went here with my girlfriend and the staff was weirdly rude to her for no reason. It was honestly unsettling because we just wanted some tacos. When the food finally came out (30 minutes later) it was room temperature. I would highly recommend going anywhere else. I went here all the time during my years at TCU. It's cheap, delicious and will get you drunk quicker than any place around; Chimy's is a college kid's dream. Their margaritas are made with everclear instead of tequila, so watch out. They catch up to you quick. I like a place that knows what it is. This is one of those. Chimy's is not for those days when you want to be pampered. It's a laid-back, friendly establishment with good, straightforward yumminess to eat and reasonably priced beers and cocktails. I had one grilled fish and one chicken-green-chile taco. Both were great. My margarita was excellent, and strong enough that I switched to beer. Nice staff. Not invasive or gushy, but pleasant and attentive. Came if for national margarita day since I hear great things about there maragaritas, we'll they definitely didn't disappoint. It was a bit of a wait standing in line to order, for those who have not been before you stand in line and order and grab a seat. We got lucky cause agroup was leaving as we arrived and got some good seats. I started off with a Dos a Rita and my ladie had a Benz, both were fantastic! After drinking our beverages and waiting a bit they called us for our food. I had the pork tacos and she had the fish tacos which in trying both were great. Would definitely return for drinks or food or both. I gave 3 stars cause the wait was a bit long on ordering and even after leaving my tab open for more drinks the line got even longer later so it took a while, It would have been great of they had a bar to order just drinks or place for just food. read more

They have good margaritas and quick service on drinks. Food is another story. If you sit outside and there is a crowd you won't be able to here your name called. It's not that big of a deal but you have to walk back and forth to see if you're food is ready. There is also a corner in the patio where all the nasty water and drink spills puddle so you need to be hesitant about that. The parking to this place is also nice since you don't have to pay for it! I would come here again especially for drinks and happy hour! read more

I heard on 1310 The Ticket they had green chile burgers. About the only place I know of to get green chile burgers is in New Mexico. Couldn't wait to find out. Green chile all over the menu! This turned about to be another "white folk" mexican food place. I didn't taste any green chile in chimichanga. My wife had the fish tacos and they were so bland. Fish tacos aren't amazing. Fuzzy's is much better. Their margaritas are allegedly ever clear, and delicious. The mango swirl comes with a sugar rim, which isn't something I was expecting. A little bit of Lubbock in Fort Worth. They always have the tech games on Saturdays with a lively crown of Red Raider faithfully. The margaritas are strong and the food always comes out hot and tasty. I usually get the chimichanga withits crispy fried tortilla covering the pleantiful beans, cheese, and meat served with a side of queso. Though it isn't as cheap as it was when I was in school it is still a deal in this part of town. This s a great place to watch the game with great mexican bar food, strong drinks and cold beer. I wish I could give more stars because their margaritas taste good (pricey though), but their food is complete garbage. I think they have the worst queso. It is seriously just a weird yellow goo. I had their green chile pork tacos the last time I was here and it was unimpressive. My friend got the chicken quesadilla and it looked like it could have been made at Taco Bueno. I'm really disappointed in this visit, my last three visits honestly. We are from Norman , Ok where our local chimys shut down (we would be there 3x a week) , so when we moved to Fort Worth we were so excited there was a chimys ! We've been here 3x now and each time we've had multiple problems, the combo nachos had 2-3 pieces of bell peppers and barely any meat at all, the chips were soggy and the chk was cold. The margs are so heavy w sweet and sour I can't drink them .... we always get two chips and queso's for the table because we have two teenage boys and my daughter who is 11 went back for a second refill of chips and the man who I believe is the manager told her (rather rudely in my opinion since it's just a little girl asking) there was only one refill.(we were also there for her bday and had present boxes on the table) and she was upset because she thought she upset someone. I've eaten at three different chimys now and none of them did that BUT regardless if that's store policy that's fine , we still had two orders of queso for refills on and you don't have to be short w a child. To top it all off when I originally picked up our chip and queso order there was no season salt on them so I went back for it and the woman literally flung the shaker all over it while I held the tray(this is not an exaggeration) it went all over me and down my shirt and in my left contact lense, and on the woman behind me. Her reply was "my bad girl" and walked off. We have had the kids bdays as a family at our once local chimys for four years so this is a huge disappointment. In town for the night with a local friend who took us here! Great get together up beat atomosphere!! Do not come here if you are wanting a quiet time together, the music is loud and the vibes are rocking! Had a Porshe margarita which was awesome and had the perfect amount of "adult" component. Our table had chips and guacamole (nice and chunky), beef quesadilla, half and half fajita nachos, and two chicken fajita tacos add cilantro. Meat had a good flavor and was tender. Chimy's is a great place for a laid back lunch or happy hour. The typical crowd during these times is young professional (25-45), but not exclusively so by any means. On weekends you'll find the place kid friendly during the afternoon unless there's a big game on. It has a great vibe both inside and on the patio. Chimy's uses a custom playlist of music that is always good and appropriate to the time of day and the crowd on hand. I'm always impressed at the attention they give to this detail. The best food item on the menu is the Green Chili Cheeseburger with jalapeno bun. It's one of my favorite burgers in Fort Worth. Comes with excellent waffle fries. The parking situation is not an issue until you get later into the evening of a busy Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night. Even then just parking on the other side of the bridge down Foch past Lancaster isn't a far walk and you'll 100% find parking there. read more

I get it is cheap during happy hour but there are several places in the area that have drinks and food priced similarly that won't make you want to gag. I have never eaten something greasier in my life than their "chicken" quesadilla. I wouldn't be surprised if you told me that it was indeed not chicken but rather some mystery meat straight out of a can. The margaritas are underwhelming.
