    The piece of glass
    Alfie S.

We decided to give this place a try despite the poor reviews. Ordered the seared salmon roll, salt and pepper wings, teriyaki chicken bento, and chicken katsu bento. The salt and pepper wings were disappointing and tasted like poor quality meat. The salmon roll started out fine, but on the third piece my wife noticed something shiny before taking a bite -- it turned out to be a piece of broken glass inside the rice. At that point, we immediately stopped eating out of fear there might be more glass in the food. We called the restaurant right away, but the manager was never available and we were told to "call back in 30 minutes." This happened multiple times. When the manager finally called us back the next day, he offered to remake the entire order but refused a refund. We declined because after finding glass in our food, we no longer trusted eating there. He stated he "doesn't do business like that" and didn't seem concerned about the seriousness of the situation. Glass in food is a huge safety issue that could cause real harm, and the lack of accountability made it even worse. Sadly, we won't be returning and cannot recommend this place.

Don't know about other people, but I love this place! This is where I take my mom for lunch sometimes, because it's close to home, there is a lot to choose from the menu and food is tasty. The weekday lunch menu used to be such a great deal, and so many combinations to choose from Sometimes you feel like Chinese food, sometimes Japanese, sometimes both! Unfortunately, the prices have gone up, as with all costs lately. But the food always comes out super hot and tasty. Fortunately, we have never had a problem with our food being cold or stale. Also, the portion sizes are pretty big that we always have food left over to take home. I love their Kung pao chicken and egg drop soup with crispy wontons and sweet and sour sauce. It is my go-to! The service here is always excellent. Never had a rude, pushy, or neglectful server. We've been coming here for years, and we will continue to do so!

Salt & Pepper Chicken Lunch Special

I used to come here over 10+ years ago with my family. There was this salt n pepper chicken that I used to get that they no longer do which makes me sad, however their new menu is still very good. I love the build-your-own lunch special. Their portions are HUGE. The lunch special used to come with an egg roll, soup, and salad. Not it's soup OR salad. My boyf got soup and I got the salad so we could try both and they are both 10/10. The best egg drop soup I've had in a while. The salad dressing is the same as it was years ago -- just as amazing. It was pretty empty that day and we had to wait a little towards the end for someone to help us.

    A funny fortune I got. I wonder if it's bad luck... _

This is always a go to spot for me. I come here at least twice a month. The egg fried rice is only 8 dollars AND THE PORTION IS HUGE. It will for sure feed at least 4 people. It's also super good and well made! The Las Vegas roll is a fried roll and i personally like it, it just has salmon so if you don't like fish don't get that. If you like spicy sushi, I like the jalapeño roll, it's also a fried roll. The salt and pepper chicken wings are TO DIE FOR! The service is always super friendly and is quick with everything they do! The ambience is also great. Good vibes! The tables are a bit close so sometimes you'll over hear other people's conversations. But it's the best spot in Chula Vista. I've been to a few other spots... But everytime I compare it to China China + Bento and Noodles. Not many places come close to this place!

The prices sure went up here at China China, and Bento & Noodles. Below, I ordered Beef Chow FUN Noodles. It feels you up fast. I like how they LOWERED the price of the Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings, but it's SAD to know that they raised the price of their Honey Walnut Shrimp; which is currently over $22. Other than that, they have good customer service - but improvements can be made w/small details such as including fortune cookies w/our order.

Came here on a Sunday evening with some family for some good Chinese food. We ordered 3 entrees and one side dish and definitely ended up with leftovers for our party of three. The Mongolian Beef, Salt and Pepper Wings, Honey Walnut Shrimp were super yummy!! The portions are pretty big so I would recommend sharing vs ordering 1 entree per each person. I wouldn't order the Chicken with Vegetables again though, the vegetable to chicken ratio was very off with it having too many vegetables. We arrived at around 5pm and only waited less than 10 mins to be seated. We got our food pretty quickly after ordering as well. The restaurant does get pretty loud since it's one whole big room vs having walls/dividers. Parking is super easy since it's located with other stores surrounding a huge parking lot, and right off the freeway too! It's a combined Chinese + Japanese restaurant, so I could see this place being the perfect answer for indecisive eaters! Makes it unique and would be a reason why I come back!

Bento Box with Sweet & Sour Chicken, fried fish, 2 California Rolls, rice and salad. It also comes with a small Miso Soup :)

Omg so good. So glad I found Mar Y Tierra!!! Everyone was sooo nice to me even though I had a hard time remembering "sesenta" briefly (when I think in Spanish now, Japanese comes out... it's funny but it's a problem lol) and even though I'm a gringa with a basic order. I just got 1 shrimp & 1 fish taco both with avocado and a jamaica. When I tell you I ate these like I had never eaten food before... Shrimp was incredibly tender and wonderful. The fish was huge, flaky and crispy and juicy. Honestly I ate them so quickly they could've been made of liquid. But they were sooo delicious!! They included extra sauce and the green salsa wasn't too spicy for me which I so appreciate! They also included 2 limes for one of the tacos which made me think someone really loves me today :') I would definitely come back here anytime and try more things on the menu! Very very delicious!! Thank you for the delicious food and taking care of me today!!!

We were immediately seated, but as soon as my husband and I saw the menu, we wanted to get up and leave. Their menu was very limited, very pricey for the the place & location. But since my daughter was excited to try it, we decided to stay. No bento boxes here, and everything you request is an additional charge, even a tiny amount of teriyaki sauce! My daughter got the Naruto bowl, and my husband, the Teriyaki Chicken Bowl, each one costing $17 EACH. I went with the soy sauce ramen which was $16, and to add an egg additional $1.50. The bowls were only filled with rice, the ramen was filled with scallions, and not much else. The Cali Roll were also mostly rice, no avocado, they were so cheap and did not even add wasabi & ginger! Plus the place was not very clean. In front of where we were seated were dirty bins collecting dirty dishes, and a trash can where servers just dumped everything from trash, to soups, to drinks! It was so nasty, why not place the trash cans inside, where it is hidden, not where customers were dining?!? We won't be coming back. Pls save your money for another Japanese restaurant... the price, portion or taste weren't worth it for us.

I'm really glad we did because the food was so good that we actually came back two days in a row -- which should tell you a lot about how delicious it was. If there's one thing I highly recommend, it's the Chula Vista Tostada -- that was easily one of my favorites. The service was good and the wait for the food wasn't long at all. We went once on Saturday and again on Sunday. The lines were pretty small when we arrived, but it definitely picked up afterward. Just a heads up before you go, there is no seating. It's a standing-room-only setup with barrel tables throughout the outdoor space. You order from one of the trucks, find a place to stand, and enjoy your food. The atmosphere felt lively and authentic, making it part of the experience. Service: Service was quick and efficient despite the crowd. There was even someone helping direct parking, which made arriving and finding a spot much easier. Food: The complimentary consommé completely stole the show for me. It was rich, flavorful, and packed with chunks of seafood. Every bite had a deep, savory flavor with just the right amount of spice. It was honestly my favorite thing we tried. We ordered the Gobernador, the Negrita, and fish tacos. The Gobernador was loaded with shrimp and melted cheese, creating the perfect combination of rich, savory seafood flavor. The shrimp tasted incredibly fresh and was cooked perfectly. The Negrita was another standout, piled high with shrimp, sliced avocado, and topped with an oyster that added even more fresh ocean flavor. It was served with tostadas on the side, and every bite was packed with bold seasoning, fresh seafood, and great texture. The fish taco was good and made with fresh ingredients. My bf and I are big foodies and have eaten a lot of fish tacos over the years, so we're probably tougher critics than most. While it wasn't our favorite item of the meal, it was still enjoyable, and the Gobernador and Negrita were the clear standouts for us. While the prices are a little higher, the quality, freshness, and portion sizes help justify it. Overall, this was a great experience from start to finish. Between the flavorful seafood, and generous portions, it's definitely worth coming back again.

El Prieto (Main St, San Diego) Rating: 2.5 / 5 Stars…read more I really wanted to enjoy my visit to El Prieto, but unfortunately, the experience was a series of "almosts" that didn't quite land. Here is the breakdown of my recent meal: The Food The kitchen missed the mark on a few basics. My bistec ranchero was underwhelming; the sauce was overly "tomatoey," lacking the deep, savory complexity or spice you expect from a solid ranchero. To make matters worse, the rice served on the side was noticeably cold, which is always a disappointment. The Drinks The beverage situation was equally frustrating. I was surprised to find that the bar offers no wine options at all. I decided to pivot to an Arnold Palmer, which ended up being the worst version of the drink I've ever had--the proportions were completely off. Service & Atmosphere The service felt lacking throughout the night, with very little attention paid to the table. Most off-putting, however, is the policy stated on the menu: a 45-minute window to eat. It's hard to relax and enjoy a meal when you feel like you're being timed by the staff. Verdict Between the cold sides, a limited bar, and the rushed atmosphere created by the time limit, I can't say I'd be in a hurry to return. There are too many great spots in San Diego to settle for a 45-minute countdown.
