Came in here for some quick lunch in the afternoon today. I bought a combo B with jalapeño chicken and orange chicken. I also bought a combo B with coconut shrimp and the spicy golden fish. The workers are very friendly and always put on a smile. Their customer service was by far one of the best in Bakersfield. I would recommend everyone to come here for some good Chinese food. Super cheap and fast, love the vegetarian options. What I DONT love is that all orders are served in styrofoam. Styrofoam is the one of the worst materials for our planet and even the 'dine in' orders are served on styrofoam. I have been having this food for over 10 years now. It's my favorite cheap Chinese food in town. It's usually pretty good but today the orange chicken, which is a favorite, was way too dry to eat. I tried chewing it, but it was way too tough, so a lot of it ended up staying in the plate. The teriyaki chicken is ok but get the sauce on the side cause it's SALTY! Tonight we came to this location after our movie at Edwards. It was 15 minutes till their closing time. We knew they would be low on food. We came to find out they are serving cold food. They're telling us heat it up when you get home. This place doesn't care if they sell you cold food. Another guy came in said he wants to pick up his phone order. They hadn't made it yet and ran out of what he ordered so he had to settle for something else. The workers all had attitudes. They messed up one of our plates and had no more food to fix it. So we left with one plate of cold food full price and a refund for the other. Piss poor attitudes from them because it was close to closing time. China bistro is amazing! They give nice big portions, my girlfriend and I can share one plate, get a drink, and some egg rolls for around $10. This is our go to for Chinese food. We prefer this over Panda Express any day. Everything is always hot and fresh when we go and I've never had a bad thing to say about this place. What happened China Bistro? I'm a Bakersfield native and I grew up going to China Bistro. The food was always amazing! It has been a while since I've eaten at this restaurant, maybe 6 months, and noticed that the inside of the restaurant has been redecorated. It's a nice, clean dining area now. Except the food: NOT GOOD! Everything is bland - everything! Normally I love saving my leftover Chinese food to take home, but I tossed most of my meal in the trash. So did my husband. My husband and I was craving Chinese food last night and we decided to go try China Bistro since I hadn't been there in years and used to love going there. The BBQ pork was okay - mediocre at best. The Sweet and Sour Pork tasted like ketchup and vinegar. The Orange chicken did not taste like orange chicken. It was dry, burnt and had tons of chopped garlic which made it extremely bitter. I'm not vegetarian and I LOVE the tofu with white rice, I get it every time I go. And the pineapple chicken I'd kill for!! The servers are always polite, inviting, friendly and every now and then if the cooks catch you peeking in the back they aren't afraid to wave and say hello, frankly, that's awesome. My family has been eating at China Bistro in the Marketplace since it opened. If Yelp had been around then, I would have given in 5 stars as the food was superior to many of the sit-down Chinese restaurants in Bakersfield. I am unsure what has happened to this establishment (maybe it was sold or new manager), but the quality of food has gone from great to good to bad. Most recent meal (12/12/2017) was very disappointing. Chow Mien noodles were like spaghetti and tasteless. Brocolli in broccoli beef was cold and beef was conspiciously sparse. Chicken in orange flavored chicken was smallest pieces of chicken I have ever experienced in a restaurant. Sad to say, we may never return. Will have to start search for a replacement restaurant. read more

I used to love China Bistro and had not been here for quite a while. Went to the movies today and stopped in for lunch before the movie. Oh my gosh, this place is not the same food at all. It was terrible. We both had a two item combo with fried rice and chow main. The chow main was mushy and tasteless, the fried rice was the same. The entree items we tried were the coconut shrimp, pineapple chicken, spicy fish. None of it tasted very good at all. I have had better frozen asian TV dinners than this. None of it tasted fresh and crisp, it was mushy and seemed like it had been cooked many hours ago. We both ate less than half our food and had to stop and just threw it away.
