All I can say is " don't bother coming here !!" I ordered delivery(they were 30-40 mins before they close): 1 whole Peking duck, 1 chicken fried rice, sweet n sour fish, chicken pan fried noodles, garlic eggplant, chicken lettuce wrap & 3x order chicken lumpia (appetizer) total was $127+ I was a bit surprised about the total (my calculation was only $95 + tax & $4 delivery) & had asked for itemized charges and called them to make sure they send me the copy of the itemized prices, but NO !! It didn't come with it. The chicken pan fried didn't come with the sauce it supposed to come with, the sweet n sour fish box is not filled up & it can fit into a medium box even with the sauce already in it. I called the next day about these issues and the Chinese lady who answers their phone and took my orders the previous night was unpleasant: I mentioned these 3 issues & she kept defending that she did it right.. I told her I'll take a photo and can send it to her.. there was no sauce for the pan fried noodles (we couldn't eat it, it's so dry without the sauce), at first she insisted that there was some sauce but I said the sauce was for the sweet n sour fish, but I said there was none for the noodles & she said she'll refund me for that and then I continued with the other next 2 issues & she said she'll give me 20% discount and told me to NOT call her again !! I just hung up the phone.. so arrogant... WTF ! after charging me $127-$137 for those few dishes where it could have been a bit cheaper some where else.. The fact that it wasn't done right and now you'll tell me not to call you again !!?? It's a shame, I like some of the dishes I ordered... I guess I won't be doing business with them again !!She probably think that I'm from out of town 'cause I'm staying in one of the INN's. She has no idea that I'm a local... To me china chef fulfills an element in my life that was missing for a while after I became vegan. The shear comfort I get from saucy americanized chinese food overpowers any need I have for a fancy sonoma county chinese dinner. If I'm craving some crazy amazing authentic Chinese food I'll take my jolly ass to the city but when I need a lunch special or a pick me up from a long week, this is the place I go. It may not be the most glamorous food but its always delicious and always hits the spot. Good food doesnt have to be complicated, in fact its better when its not. read more

Wonderful folks and food! Popped into this place on a whim and was so surprised. The staff is very caring and they take a lot of pride in their food, using quality ingredients. They use organic produce, filter your water, no MSG or artificial colorings. Very different than other Chinese restaurants I have tried in the area. They also have an extensive vegan/vegetarian menu and can make many gluten-free dishes. This is my new go-to restaurant. Highly recommend the Mongolian tofu and Broccoli with garlic sauce. read more

The chicken chow mein was flavorless and dry with tiny pieces of dry chicken, really gross. The walnut shrimp looked like an infected hand injury from the civil war. This is a favourite local spot! Whenever we crave Chinese food this is our first go to, despite living 35 minutes away. The flavour profiles are good throughout the dishes we have tried, and the food isn't super greasy or overly saucey, like some American-Chinese dishes can get. Our "classic" order is house chow mein, beef fried rice, string beans with garlic, and then a rotating entree depending on mood (sometimes two because who doesn't love leftovers). The only complaint would be an inconsistency with the broccoli in garlic, sometimes it can be slightly bland and watery. However, there are SO many other wonderful dishes, including ones with broccoli, like beef and broccoli, that are plenty flavourful. If you are craving, or even mildly interested in, Chinese food you would be well served (pun intended) to stop here!! :D read more

My daughter is severe celiac and was assured everything we ordered was gluten free - pot stickers, wontons, and orange chicken. She got sick and threw up 7 times after so I dont believe the items were gluten free. When we called to tell her,she didnt offer a refund she just said it was probably the wontons that we werent accustomed to - she said she remembered telling us everything was gf and said again over the phone that it was. I was extremely disappointed with my experience here. My boyfriend and I ordered Mongolian beef and orange chicken with rice. There were some parts of the Mongolian beef the was cold. I bit into a couple chunks of hard rice. Their orange chicken was NOT fresh and there was NO flavor to it. Coming from a Chinese girl who was raised in a family that cooks Chinese food everyday, their food was clearly NOT fresh. Before our server seated us, I saw her walk over to the table that was going to be our table. It was already set up but I saw that she had to wipe it down once more. I should've listened to my gut feeling and walk out of that restaurant. Shouldn't every table be set up, clean, and ready for the next customer? Food is amazing and they have a huge vegetarian and vegan menu which is a huge plus in my book. The biggest problem I have is that every time I either have them deliver or I order for pick up they ALWAYS miss a item or give our food away! I've had them delivery twice so far and they completely mixed up my food both times. The items still ended up being vegetarian so we just kept the food. When we did a pick up order they ended up giving our food away to someone else(sucks for them because they got our full vegan meal while their chicken sat and got cold). It seems the little city of Cotati continues to offer some great eating establishments - making up for the mediocrity expanse that is western Sonoma County. China Chef's vegetable chow fun is positively delicious; their walnut prawns dish is the best I've had north of the Golden Gate; but, the potstickers with the house sauce ranks up there with Yank Sing's very own. They said they could make me more but once I said I ordered it on door dash they refused to remake it and said I had to take it up with door dash. Ok. I've never eaten at this place under the new ownership but when it was called Happy Garden? Wow. "Let me tell you a story", Bobby Jindal style. I was having lunch there a long time ago, maybe 2001. We were waiting for our Mongolian Beef to arrive when BHAM, a large, mutant sized Cockroach scurried past my feet. I said, "oh sh!t, a f***ing cockroach!" When the owner of the place came by, I told him there is a cockroach right there next to the wall. Next thing he said was, "ohh...cockalaroach!" He quickly stepped on it, took a cloth napkin from the table nearby and picked up the dead thing and went along his way. Ever since this incident, I've never eaten here again. They use too much oyster sauce in all their veggie dishes and lack creativity in their selections. But come on, who goes to a Chinese place to be impressed with ambiance and creativity. Best vegetarian Chinese in Rohnert Park/Cotati. They have good service and take out. Favorite dishes: Broccoli w/2 kinds of mushroom Mongolian Tofu (spicy!) Mu Shu Vegetables (juicy veggies) Orange chicken (perfect!) Chow Mien (Not too greasy) The veggies are fresh. They serve you tea and most of the vegetarian dishes are $6.95. They also offer brown rice. There's a lunch special where you get soup, rice(plain or fried) and choice of fried won tons or egg roll with your main dish. There open until 9:30 pm. UPDATE: It is no longer the Happy Garden :( They have changed owners and are now China Chef. The food was definitely different. The chow mien was dry and did not have many vegetables. The garlic sauce is, well, lame. Not garlicky enough. It is a very sad day. read more
