I discovered this place when looking for a replacement for my other favorite restaurant in east wood. As I no longer live over there. China Chef hits the mark for me. I used the online app to place an order , added a comment to indicate I would pick up order and pay at 5:15. I selected some dinner combos that I would not be able to prepare myself. Sesame chicken, roast pork with pea pods, egg fu young, each came with an egg roll and fried rice, Also, I ordered chicken chow mein with white rice on the side The order totaled about $58.00. The entrees were each placed in a container with the fried rice, so it was 2/3 fried rice. I wonder if I could have had more entree portion without the fried rice in the same container. I may never know. Also, the website app promised free spring rolls if the order reached a certain total. I surpassed the total price but never received the promised spring rolls. The order was not ready at 5:15 when I came to pick it up. The clerk was unable to find my order on his computer and told me I must have ordered it on a different site. I gave him my order number but he could not find my order. Finally at 5:30. He found my phone number on his system and went to the cooking area to find my order. Never got the spring rolls. We had a variety of dishes. Hot and Sour Soup was superior with plenty of char shu pork in it. Ditto, wonton soup. Mongolian Beef was tender and very tasty. Dumpling wrappers were delicate, and the filling was first-class. My only negative was that the General Tso chicken pieces were small (but plentiful)...this made them over cooked. They were fried hard. We'll definitely be back, but I think I'll skip the General Tso's next time. read more

New York style Chinese food in Florida it doesn't get better than this. This is my second time eating here and the food is fast fresh and plentiful. Plus they don't skimp on the veggies which is also nice. Most places the noodles are too dry that is not an issue here. It's a family run business and the owner is super friendly to my kids when we came in. You'll often see her son or daughter helping out. They have even helped customers carry large orders out to their car. This place is really under rated and I have to say it's a hidden gem. If you're in the area and have a craving for some good Chinese food definitely stop by. read more

It's been a while since we ordered from China Chef but ordered out last week. I had a hankering for their Orange Beef, House Chow Mei Fun, and the Wonton/Egg Drop Soup. The soup is my favorite and it's not everywhere you can get Orange Beef. It really hit the spot and reminded me I should mix it up a little more often. ;) They don't deliver but they're close enough that it's not too inconvenient. I love going in there and seeing the whole family working. The kids are learning young and it reminds me of my childhood answering the phone at my grandma's transmission shop. Food wss mediocre at best. Flavorless and boring. Fried rice is dry, like dehydrated dry. Wonton soup is like literally water with giant thick and gummy Wontons. Lo mein is over cooked or reheated and very greasy. Fried noodles were extremely stale. Was first and last order. I had to cook dinner anyway as my kids hated the food. Wasted money and time. I wish I had read the reviews before I ordered food. Looking back over 6 years of reviews it is now clear that this restaurant was very well aware that their food is sub par. China Chef has been at this location for years and honestly, for whatever reason, I have not been here in at least four or five years (probably closer to seven years). I remembered them as being ok and that they had cheap lunch specials. I decided that it was time to give them a try again. I called in my order for three people and was pleasantly surprised to hear that it would be ready in ten minutes. We had three dinner specials and an appetizer of crab rangoons. I headed over to China Chef (which is by the Walgreen's and Tijuana Flats) and as we walked in, they are still practicing COVID-19 safety practices, their tables where people once dined now form a barrier between the customers and the staff. You walk in and ban go maybe ten feet into the building. They even have a credit card machine set up there. The girl was extremely friendly and we got our food and were on our way. I fo find the food a bit expensive, especially with the portions you are getting. Nothing outrageous, but it should be noted. The lo mein dinner combos were about eleven dollars each. I had the szechuan pork. It came with an egg roll, which all three of us liked. My szechuan pork was ok, but that is about it. The fried rice was not the best. As for the crab rangoons, both my daughter and I had them. I thought they were not bad, however she did not like them. So, two differing opinions (though maybe I should note my daughter loves crab rangoons and gets them everywhere). I guess I will give it three stars. read more

This is a solid take out restaurant for Chinese food. We've been ordering here for years. Everything is pretty good, hot and fresh, and accurate. The staff is always super friendly as well. After catching a cold, this was my choice for their hot and sour soup. It's packed with flavor and loaded with tofu, different mushrooms, and strips of pork. You can customize the heat level as well. I went with medium and may try hot next time. It makes me feel better. My wife loves their egg drop wonton soup, Which is basically egg drop soup with some wontons added. It's very yellow and silky, which sounds gross actually. But it's good. For the entree, we tried the General Tso's Bean Curd which was light and crispy, and about 5-6 pieces of broccoli which suits me just fine. I got 2 containers of chili oil (no extra charge) to add some additional spice. The girls at the counter said they could sub tofu in any dish to make it veg friendly. They seemed intrigued by my questions about subbing for the various meats. I wouldn't plan on dining in here. It's primarily take out. I am a New Yorker born and raised and finding a great chinese food spot has been difficult. China Chef is ok, it works to calm cravings and quick take out when I don't want to cook. The customer service is always good here. Tonight we ordered small beef lomein, no veggies and beef well done, small chicken and broccoli, small shrimp with broccoli in garlic sauce and steamed pork dumplings. The positive. Food was ok. My shrimp in garlic sauce had a good flavor, nice little spice. The chicken and broccoli was ok, nice flavor. The negative. The beef was not well done. The white rice that came with the shrimp and chicken dish was not enough and the dumplings filling was light. This is actually one of Chinese takeout restaurants that I would recommend. Over times I have been there, I had eaten sweet and sour chicken, beef and broccoli, egg roll, and egg drop soup. I got to say, their food is really good. I don't really like egg rolls from Chinese takeout cuz they either taste weird or have too much wrapping (you can tell I'm pretty picky with egg rolls lol) but I really recommend the egg rolls here. They tasted soo good and they don't have too much wrapping. Beef and Broccoli had good flavoring and wasn't water down. You had enough sauce to mix with your rice. They give you a good amount of rice and you have an option to get it fried rice. The fried rice was a bit dry to me but if you mix it with the sauce then you're all good. Sweet and sour chicken was crispy and yummy. Egg drop soup wasn't water down and bland. I like their egg drop soup. All dishes give you a good amount meat and veggies along with the rice. My boyfriend and I have ordered dinner from China Chef multiple times recently and have never been disappointed. We usually call to order ahead and then pick up our food to eat at home. They've always made our order correctly (including substitutions/specifications). They're very prompt so we never have to wait long between ordering and picking up the food. The prices are very reasonable for the portion sizes (we always have enough left over for a second meal) and I've never been let down by the flavor. My personal favorite is the sesame chicken but I've tried a few things that were all very good. read more

My wife and our daughter stopped in for a bite before our daughter's music class; and, they picked up two Large Wonton Soups, a Fried Rice and a Chicken and Broccoli. All-in, with a modest tip, it was nearly $15 per person. Now, we had lots of leftovers; but, not because the portions were very large; they just didn't eat much. The soup had the yellowest color to the broth, which was supposed to be chicken, I suppose. The wonton skins were super thick, with hardly any meat inside; and, there were only onion slices as a garnish, no strips of pork. The fried rice was okay; but, after two more attempts, our daughter just threw out the rest. The chicken and broccoli was fine, just not a lot of flavor. I've been frequenting this place since I bought my house nearby, so I thought I would come back and leave a proper review. They deserve it. The staff is super friendly. There is usually the same lady at the front, and she is super nice and always remembers my name. She always gives me a huge welcome and makes me feel like my business is appreciated. They have a few high school age kids that work there too, but it's good because they speak English which makes it easier for some people to order. The food is quality chinese takeout. Being from NJ/NY, good chinese takeout is sometimes hard to find. I'm used to a certain quality. Many other places advertise themselves as NY style Chinese food, but don't make the cut to me. China Chef truly is the quality that I've come to expect from a takeout place. It's clean, and the food is always made to order. I've never seen a heat lamp in their kitchen! If you want a quick meal, a chinese takeout night, this is your spot. The dinner combinations come with pork fried rice and an egg roll. The Lunch specials offer the same, but in a smaller portion. Much better than Wok-N-Roll. Just compare Wok's fried rice with China Chef's. Wok does it WRONG. But I don't always like China Chef's selections. I enjoy their shrimp lo mein and usually always order it because they don't mess that up. Their fried rice is golden brown and delicious. Their egg roll could be better. I tried their fried shrimp and got Sweet and Sour shrimp instead. I didn't realize it until I got home. It's either how they usually do their fried shrimp or they gave me the wrong order. Either way I didn't like it. I've tried their honey chicken and was also disappointed to find it completely battered that it doesn't resemble chicken. Instead it resembled sweet and sour chicken without the red sauce on the side. It's suppose to be fried chicken with a nice sticky and sweet honey glaze coating. At least that's how it's done up north. I bought my house in Avalon Park almost 2 years ago and have been wanting some good restaurants just around the corner from my house without having to go on traffic filled, construction zone, Colonial Dr. I'm from Jersey and often use to go into NYC Chinatown so I know what good Chinese food should look and taste like. This is a much better choice than Wok but the best NY-style Chinese food I've tasted since coming to Central FL is located all the way in Longwood. Not very good chinese food. We chose this place last minute last night for takeout as we were hanging out with some friends in Avalon. I ordered chicken chop suey and broccoli with garlic sauce. My fiancé ordered beef and broccoli and my friend got a general Tso's combo. This was my first time having chicken chop suey and the lady told me on the phone it was chopped veggies, meat, and eggs sautéed together. This sounded like the perfect healthy option. Well it was honestly inedible. There were big slimy chunks of dark chicken (I don't like dark meat), there were no eggs, and the veggies were sitting in a pool of clear thick liquid. I tossed it and wasted $7. The broccoli was good but I ended my meal feeling pretty hungry still. My fiances beef and broccoli was just okay. It lacked flavor and was oily. The only person who didn't complain was my friend who ordered the general Tso's combo. But I feel like fried chicken and fried rice are kind of hard to mess up and the fat adds flavor to the dish. I am shocked by the poor reviews China Chef has received. I LOVE this place and I don't think I am the only one because it is packed every time I pick up my order. What I love about China Chef is that they use fresh vegetables. I can tell they are fresh because they have a lovely crunch and fresh flavor. We usually get the Tong Ting Shrimp and that feeds about three people. Not to mention it is delicious! We usually add some hot and soy sauce for extra flavor. On the weekends I would add 10 minutes to your suggested pick up time. A couple of times I had to wait a couple of minutes extra on the busy days. read more

Just a little back story I am not a foodie or a recognized critic by any means however, I was born and raised in New York and there are two foods we know up there Pizza and Chinese. China Chef is reliable and delicious. I know quite a few people are dissatisfied with their lack of a delivery option but I dont mind it's close enough to grab it and be home promptly. Wow okay. So let me start by saying I'm a native New Yorker and there's 2 foods that we don't play about: pizza and Chinese food. (If anyone knows some good New York style pizza places PLEASE help a sister out!!). Anyways, I've been looking for some authentic Chinese since moving here and have been failed on multiple occasions but for some reason I said I would try again tonight and hope for the best. Boy did I luck out! Not only is this place less than a mile away from me, this was probably some of the best Chinese food I have ever had (rivaling NY Chinese)! I called ahead and placed my order and took the 3 min drive over to the spot. When I walked in everyone behind the counter greeted me and the woman asked for my phone number. I let her know I didn't leave one and she replied with a smile "don't worry we have called ID". I told her my phone number and she repeated my order to me before handing it to me. They asked me if I wanted any extra sauces and the juice in the fridge caught my eye. We laughed again, she asked if I wanted one, which I couldn't refuse and decided on a half and half. I was in and out in less than 5 mins. Now the food..... it was AMAZING. I ordered the chicken wings w/ bbq sauce and the boneless spare rib combo. The food is so good I'm writing this review as the plate is still piping hot in my lap. Oh yeah that too, the food was so hot and fresh. There's nothing worse than eating lukewarm food (maybe I lucked out because I live so close). But regardless I couldn't be happier with my experience. Now I'm mad because I'm going to be spending all of my money here since it's so dang close. If you're second guessing trying this place out, stop and just try it for yourself.
